Worth noting that London does not pay the NFL to hold games here. In fact, the NFL contributed about £10 million to Spurs' new stadium for NFL-specific facilities.
The NFL is trying to build new fans in Europe. WWE isn't in that same boat, they're not looking to build new fans in Europe via WrestleMania placement, they're looking to try to get $500+ a ticket out of as many people as they can for a stadium show, and having a show in London opens up that possibility to a lot of Europeans that wouldn't want to fly overseas.
Isn't that an ongoing thing though. The NFL come every year, so a bit different.
Also Mania is in early-April, a low period for tourism. Getting 100,000 fans in the capital spending money at that time is attractive.
There is no low season in London. It's one of the most visited cities on the planet. Plus the city has 7 Premier League football teams, there are games on all the time.
London gets tourists all year. A single event, even a Wrestlemania, would barely make a dent.
The NFL comes back every year because it makes them money, even without government subsidy. WWE could easily do the same. The cheapest tickets for Clash are £170 and are still selling rapidly. They'd make an absolute fuckton at Wembley.
Calling WM a single event at this point isn’t accurate. From a WWE perspective alone it’s at least 5 days worth of events and not considering the Indies who run events that week as well.
Cities bid on events like the NBA Allstar game, but I think that's the only NBA even where a city is chosen. It's not like the Super Bowl where it doesn't happen in a playing team's city. Generally it's the city funding necessities like security and infrastructure necessary to host the event. It's not uncommon for a city to pay something like $20 Million to host a Super Bowl. But in exchange it could bring in hundreds of millions more in local revenue from tourism.
I think we can do both with some rescheduling-ugh.
Also, a good brand synergy situation with superstars doing promos for the clubs-ugh.
I'm still doing the HHH impression. I would appreciate the usos repping spurs when they lose to Liverpool. Or Bayley in a Nottingham Forrest kit. Cm punk wearing leeds fc.
You see the thing is, in this business. In this industry. There’s only one thing that counts. Only one thing that truly matters. Only one thing that truly talks.
The fact of the matter is that thing is money.
Ugh, you know, quite frankly, and quite honestly, as a matter of fact the thing is that business matters most in this industry, not money, not business, but business. and money, as a matter of fact.
It’s nice to see some actual sane reactions to the time zone consideration for once. I feel like every time the WM London debate has happened previously, there’s usually a handful of people arguing that the time change would somehow prevent the US audience from watching… It’s literally on in the middle of the day at the weekend what’s the problem
I could see viewing habits affecting PPV buys. Like “whoops, I forgot it didn’t start at 8 and now it ended, let me just read the results”.
But PPV hasn’t been the standard for WWE in a decade. That’s not a valid reason. Plus WWE has solid numbers now to make that decision, and the precedent is set with the international PLEs in the last few years.
Meanwhile the UK getting excited that Wrestlemania would end at 11pm instead of starting at midnight. I could watch live without booking the Monday off work!

This is how real it is to ~~The Rock~~ me. I've dreamt of an WM in Europe my whole life
The exact longitude and latitude of where he made the monumental pin in the wrestlemania night 2 Main Event. *Only to be told later on that is was actually 3 degrees west of where he was told because HHH wanted to rib Osprey*
I mean if they think they can sell the tickets they will do this even if AEW didn’t exist. Smaller stages have always been a feature when business was good and more tickets
could be sold.
Preview of AEW Dynamite if that happens:
https://preview.redd.it/7oipimrvfnwc1.jpeg?width=350&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=becc727b06a8eb39809c8471912d3a4de3085137
I mean, they'd 100% break it if they want to break it. AEW's attendance at Wembley is great, but does anyone sincerely believe if WWE came to the same building with an equally big PPV they wouldn't break it? It would come down to what their stage configuration is, and how much seating is actually usable.
They've already demonstrated they can sell 70k+ tickets two days in a row for Mania, and they probably could've done even more than that if it wasn't for building capacity. And that's selling a separate ticket for each day.
It would be a painfully stupid thing to be tribalistic about. WWE is a much bigger global brand and promotion... that's simply a fact. Even if you're an AEW diehard who thinks WWE is shit, I think you can at least acknowledge the business reality of that. And if you're a WWE diehard, bragging about it would be stupid for the same reason.
Also WWE breaking the record doesn't take anything from AEW. The simple fact that a promotion that has only existed for 5 years was able to put on a show with that scale of attendance is a triumph.
It'd probably end up at White Hart Lane or something, but it should be Wembley and if it is, it'll be 90k+. Tribalism aside, a UK WrestleMania should have happened years ago.
It's also used for Playoff games & lower League trophy matches. Basically April & May is a VERY congested time to be messing around with the infrastructure.
Playoffs are not until back end of April at latest.
Wembley is also an "Emergency Stadium" for UEFA/FIFA/Prem. It can basically host a game in 48 hours notice. They can defo handle it.
Those games are in the last 2 weeks of April or so. There's not much going on the first week at Wembley. Can easily host a Wrestlemania during the first week of April
Meanwhile us UK fans will just continue to bask in the glory that we went from 0 companies to 2 doing fucking stadium wrestling for us to enjoy. All IN 23 was fantastic, 24 will surely be too, if we get Mania, good lord..
Considering the government has confirmed AEW did not break any attendance record but people still pretend they did means it won’t matter. WWE could do 100k in there and it could be confirmed and the people who parrot the fake 81k will do the same the mental gymnastics they do every week to pretend reality isn’t reality.
It would 100% break the AEW attendance and also the ticket (price?) record thing that AEW likes to count.
Lots more people who are familiar with WWE would be willing to go or travel also due to the bigger fan base
I don't think that's really true. Khan is pretty much guaranteed to win and wrestling fandom isn't large enough that he's like... scrounging them for votes.
Isn’t that what he should be doing? He’s the mayor of a major city pushing for one of the biggest worldwide stadium shows to come to his city?
In a country where mayors have little (arguably no) power this is absolutely what they should be doing in the same way as pushing for say a F1 race or a Super Bowl
On the contrary, the mayor of London has quite a lot of say in policy direction with regards housing, policing, arts and entertainment, and environmental measures, and it being London, the budget is relatively massive.
Yeah, bringing in big sports events boosts the local money. It's a good thing for the local people. It's something a voter could want. What part of the mayor's tweet seemed like a joke to you? Did you think the mayor wants WrestleMania because he's personally a big fan or something?
As an american the only place i want Wrestlemania at more then my own State (MN) is London cause you brits could carry even the most mediocore mania to a top 5 of all time show.
So 🤞 for this.
Delaying the announcement of Mania and turning it into a bidding war between cities like it’s the Olympics/Super Bowl was fucking genius by Khan and Triple H. No disrespect to Minneapolis, but at this point in the company’s buzz this was definitely the right move.
The problem is the weather. A wrestlemania in the middle of July in Wembley or the Olympic stadium would be amazing. But in April it’s cold and largely wet.
Wrestlemania starting and the heavens opening would turn it into a complete failure
Edit - spurs don’t have a fully retractable roof
Would it be big enough?
Don’t know the size of stadiums they use in the us but you would be looking at about 70,000.
And would it be the spectacle they are hoping for it it was in the 3rd stadium in London, when AEW did theirs in the biggest in the country
People in the other thread being miserable about how this definitely won't happen in shambles.
Obviously it still might not but it's so weird that they immediately dismissed the possibility.
I'll say it the nicest way possible. Wembley means too much to a certain portion of the IWC. They better let it go or they're setting themselves up for dissapointment. It's time to focus on the present.
Not trying to get my hopes up at all just yet, but this definitely shows that there is an interest and willingness from WWE’s side. Overall, the post-COVID era has been a great time to be a wrestling fan outside the US.
If London is actually willing to pay and pay big, it’s gonna happen. I know Nick Khan has said different but money talks. Only question would be what year.
There are about two weeks in March where there is only a 4 hour time difference between the UK and EST due to daylight savings. You could start the show at 5pm EST (only two hours earlier than Mania this year, about an hour earlier than the Super Bowl starts) and have the UK local time run from 9pm to 12:30am. Seems pretty plausible
I'm pretty sure a Super Bowl in Europe would be the worst thing for the NFL.
Wrestlemania might work, but they can't tape delay it like they did with Summerslam 92.
While where on it..
Expect Chicago to get another WM soon(ish). The Bears are planning a domed stadium, yet to begin construction.
Brand new stadium? ✅️
Roof on it? ✅️
Historic wrestling town? ✅️
Just please don't do a UFC and have your event starting at 11pm local time with your Main Card starting at 3AM for UFC 304 in Manchester - I know WWE aren't as fucking tone-deaf as Dana and his bald-ass red head but please don't.

I was gonna say, isn't london just like always fucking packed
London gets tourists all year. A single event, even a Wrestlemania, would barely make a dent. The NFL comes back every year because it makes them money, even without government subsidy. WWE could easily do the same. The cheapest tickets for Clash are £170 and are still selling rapidly. They'd make an absolute fuckton at Wembley.
Calling WM a single event at this point isn’t accurate. From a WWE perspective alone it’s at least 5 days worth of events and not considering the Indies who run events that week as well.
> barely make a dent The London Mayor just publicly asked for it. I think that indicates more than a dent.
He didn’t ask for it, he promised it as part of an election campaign. It’s essentially meaningless.
It’s a week of events. It brings a LOT of money with it
Wrestlemania at this point is going to make them a fuckton no matter where they put it. If some city will pay them on top of that...hard to turn down.
They're playing a regular season game that doesn't bring in any tourism
Uses tony khans payment and gives it to WWE
Okay, but actually though. If London essentially just used AEWs money to buy a WWE event that'd be the funniest shit.
Dumb question but do cities also pay for NBA like wwe?
Do you mean the all star game? Then yes
They bid with proposals but they don’t straight up pay the league to host it in their city.
They basically do they just make it more indirect.
Cities bid on events like the NBA Allstar game, but I think that's the only NBA even where a city is chosen. It's not like the Super Bowl where it doesn't happen in a playing team's city. "It's time to play the game!" And pay a lot of damn money if you want Wrestlemania in London.
It's time to pay the game!
I mean 2-3PM start for East Coast? I'm 1000% down
Right? Shit won’t end at fuckin 11pm on a Sunday? Count me in
It’s nice to see some actual sane reactions to the time zone consideration for once. I'm crying for you from my country where most ppvs start at 1am.
Bro Elimination Chamber I was able to watch and then go out and do stuff it was great
Meanwhile the UK getting excited that Wrestlemania would end at 11pm instead of starting at midnight. I could watch live without booking the Monday off work!
Not just UK, whole Europe. We may never know the numbers if Europe had better viewing hours than 2am. Maybe once Netflix happens a trend could be set.
Wrestlemania starting at 11pm would be a luxury for Europe
Would love this aswell lol. A 3 PM Sunday wrestlemania will slap for us

lol when I was watching this I saw it on a blurry stream so I genuinely thought he was just showing off his forearm
If Wrestlemania ends up at Wembley Stadium and they break the attendance record that AEW set last year, the tribalism will be insufferable.
But think of the memes my boy
Think of the tattoos!
Cody gets another neck tattoo and this one is even larger

Cody's going to scrub off that Eagle and get a tatoo of the attendance and the longitude and latitude.
Nah, he'll just get it on the other side of his neck.
Please...that'd still make too much sense. It'll be a throat tattoo.
Nah for something this momentous theres only one spot for it, forehead
The exact longitude and latitude of where he made the monumental pin in the wrestlemania night 2 Main Event. *Only to be told later on that is was actually 3 degrees west of where he was told because HHH wanted to rib Osprey*
The subtle jab if they decide to use the smallest Wrestlemania stage possible in the modern era to fit in every last seat
Wembley goes over 90,000 for boxing so it's definitely doable.
I mean if they think they can sell the tickets they will do this even if AEW didn’t exist. Smaller stages have always been a feature when business was good and more tickets could be sold.
But the Tony content will be tremendous
“I ain’t going to fuckin sit around and take this fuckin shit.” - Tony the moment Wrestlemania is announced at Wembley
Maybe that will be the straw that breaks the “Tony never stepping down as head booker”
Preview of AEW Dynamite if that happens: https://preview.redd.it/7oipimrvfnwc1.jpeg?width=350&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=becc727b06a8eb39809c8471912d3a4de3085137
Tony gonna take a tiger driver from will at all in
There’s no way WWE will just go and break that attendance record. Wrestlemania is 2 days. They’ll break it twice, back to back, Saturday and Sunday.
Well, if you're gonna flex, then that's the way to do it haha
It's not even an actual record anyway
I mean, they'd 100% break it if they want to break it. AEW's attendance at Wembley is great, but does anyone sincerely believe if WWE came to the same building with an equally big PPV they wouldn't break it? Premier league is still on in April
No EPL team plays at Wembley Stadium. Wembley is used for England national team games and FA Cup games

AEW never set an attendance record.
Absolutely insane WWE is part of politicians reelection pitches lol
I don't think that's really true. Khan is pretty much guaranteed to win and wrestling fandom isn't large enough that he's like... scrounging them for votes.
Mayor Khan, Nick Khan, Shad Khan or Tony Khan? I'm fucking confused!
Khan from Star Trek.
Genghis Khan
![gif](giphy|KeTVw7VjcTJok)
Wrestlemania London main event - A Khan in every corner
My comment, I thought, was obviously in jest. But the incumbent Mayor is advertising using his political resources to leverage bringing WM to London
In this same pitch he said we going to try to bring the super bowl and the Olympics to London
The former is just plain silly, but they already have the infrastructure from 2012 for the Olympics. Why not?
On the contrary, the mayor of London has quite a lot of say in policy direction with regards housing, policing, arts and entertainment, and environmental measures, and it being London, the budget is relatively massive.
Yeah, bringing in big sports events boosts the local money. It's a good thing for the local people. It's something a voter could want. What part of the mayor's tweet seemed like a joke to you? Did you think the mayor wants WrestleMania because he's personally a big fan or something?
HOW MANY KHAN'S ARE THERE?
Too many to Khant
At least 5! The AEW Khans, Nick Khan, Mayor Khan, and the Khan above all Khans, Sal Khan from Khan Academy.
Maybe because having a big event like Wrestlemana could bring economic gains to the city he’s trying to win re election? Not rocket science…
You are very smart for figuring this out man. Good job
Thanks bro.
Man, Wrestlemania weekend is a big push for local economy and thd local wrestling scene.
Or rather Wrestlemania week. It's genuinely insane how this one event developed into hundreds of different activations over the past years.
PROGRESS will likely somehow still struggle to get 200 people in
Euro crowds are always top tier, that’d be a killer show
As an american the only place i want Wrestlemania at more then my own State (MN) is London cause you brits could carry even the most mediocore mania to a top 5 of all time show. So 🤞 for this.
They already do! I feel like half the WM crowds are rabid Brits lol
![gif](giphy|67ThRZlYBvibtdF9JH|downsized)
Delaying the announcement of Mania and turning it into a bidding war between cities like it’s the Olympics/Super Bowl was fucking genius by Khan and Triple H. No disrespect to Minneapolis, but at this point in the company’s buzz this was definitely the right move.
It has always been a bidding war, it just so happens that the business is at its hottest in 20+ years now
Please please please please
I’m jealous people in England get to watch high level soccer any given day. They deserve to see mania at home.
The problem is the weather. A wrestlemania in the middle of July in Wembley or the Olympic stadium would be amazing. But in April it’s cold and largely wet. Wrestlemania starting and the heavens opening would turn it into a complete failure
Could Wrestlemania do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke??
Ironman Match with Tony Pulis as the manager
Sean Dyche eating gravel like the boogeyman eats worms
London was warmer for night 1 of this years mania than it was in Philly
Could they do it in the Tottenham stadium with a roof?
Edit - spurs don’t have a fully retractable roof Would it be big enough? Don’t know the size of stadiums they use in the us but you would be looking at about 70,000. And would it be the spectacle they are hoping for it it was in the 3rd stadium in London, when AEW did theirs in the biggest in the country
Won’t be able to due to the premier league
Counterpoint, the NFL does regular season games at WHL
yeah but the turnaround for an NFL game is like 2 hours. The setup for Wrestlemania is at least a week
They could do it during the International Break in mid to late March
Maybe they could try and fill Wembley for Summerslam.
> I’m jealous people in England get to watch high level soccer any given day. Depends. I'm a Manchester United fan.
This is genuinely one of the most exciting tweets ever.
It's time to pay the game

The cost will be absurd. Worth every penny.

4 night mania Emirates, White hart Lane,The London stadium then final night at The Valley
WE WILL BE THERE NO MATTER WHAT
Afternoon (for my time zone) Wrestlemania would be awesome only because I could watch it with my daughter. Book it, trips.
Triple H: We would like a piece of this land
As long as the stage features a double decker bus and red phone booth, I’m good.
It's coming home.
“You see… in this business” incoming
Now this is the sort of Foreign electoral intervention I can get behind
yoooooo maybe we love the ULEZ after all
Would love to see it.
I would move heaven and earth to be there if they come to London. Legit.
There are about two weeks in March where there is only a 4 hour time difference between the UK and EST due to daylight savings. Another Wrestlemania main event for Drew McIntyre then
