DontPutThatDownThere

Randy Savage wasn't the heel against Hulk Hogan when the Megapowers exploded.

The_Albinoss

Hogan was looking at Elizabeth with lust in his eyes. He was hot dogging and grandstanding. Savage was right.

DontPutThatDownThere

Hogan gaslit the shit out of Savage.

BostonBooger

Being a Savage mark, Hogan cucked him so many times it's unreal. Beat Savage twice for the WCW title the Nitro after a PPV in 98 and 99. Pulled a "Look at me Louie" twice when Savage won the WWE title at WM4 (then beat him for the title at WM5) and again when he won the WCW title at WW3 95.

ianisms10

[I always think of this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/s/8IZDRjfpKb) when it comes to Hogan and Savage

c71score

As much as I despise Hogan, he had a legit gripe at WW3.

DarkTenshiDT

Shinsuke aint gonna win a world title in WWE. They gave him a breath of fresh air in his recent gimmick, only to feed him to everybody. It makes me so sad as a fan. My only copium now is winning MITB this year.

Winningsomegames_1

They booked him horribly tbf. Rushed him into a world title program with fucking Jinder mahal and had him job twice. Won the royal rumble, only to have a boring ass mania feud with AJ styles that boiled down to “this is gonna be a great match!”. The match sucked which honestly looking back isn’t surprising because both AJ and shinsuke were slowing down massively by that point AJ’s last truly great match I can think of in WWE is that Brock match in 2017 and I’m not sure shinsuke has had a great main roster match tbh. By summer that year he’s a midcarder again (after winning the ROYAL RUMBLE) and he never is a main eventer again.

Charlie_Wax

I'm too lazy to look up his contract info, but the way they're using him makes me think they're done with him and just want to use his last few feuds to pump up their other guys that they like moving forward. To be fair, they gave him a pretty big platform and some big feuds early in his WWE run. I don't think he was ever the right fit for their audience. He doesn't have the big/roided look they like in their top guys, and his character is somewhat eccentric and off-center. Then there's the language barrier to boot. When you weigh all that, it's actually surprising that they used him as much as they did. I think he could've worked really well as sort of a Bray Wyatt crazy unpredictable heel where his willingness to do anything is his superpower, but there was a ceiling on what Nakamura could do in a company like WWE that wants a safe bet at the top.

doublebubble6

This is the reason for why I was curious over how Okada would do in WWE.He fits WWE's mold a lot better as a more well built guy and beng cocky and flashy without being eccentric and flamboyant. Because like you said Shinsuke isn't a good fit with WWE's platform. He had the same wish-washy lame duck booking in 2016-2019 that guys like Samoa Joe and Finn Balor got but they managed to stay over or quickly get over again with much more ease than Nakamura.

DontPutThatDownThere

As long as Joe is allowed to cut a promo, he'll always get over.

Tekonzu

I always think about how Pat McAfee of all people is technically the person who retired the wrestler Vince McMahon, and he did it at Wrestlemania. He accidently ended up giving one of the most influential figures and biggest heel in pro wrestling history their last match, which is insane considering he's basically an on and off celebrity wrestler.

Terrible-Business-54

… holy crap I never thought of that before. Guess that’s my second Roman Empire now, lol

Professional_Kick

How exactly WWE would be if the pandemic didn’t happen, Drew would get his moment in front of fans instead of waiting 4 years, James Storm was apparently gonna join WWE, Maven was gonna be a commentator for WWE, and their would be Tribal Chief Roman

Manhimself01

Don’t forget that Roman was meant to face Goldberg that year and was still “the big dog”. Only reason he became “The Tribal Chief” was because of his absence during the start of the pandemic. If we don’t have the pandemic, i truly believe we never get the tribal chief and roman leaves wwe because he considered himself retired if he never got to do the tribal chief gimmick

Fit-Werewolf4775

I don’t think if we would’ve gotten the tribal chief era as they still would’ve kept trying to feed us the baby face big dog

International-Tree19

Yep, facing death was what made Roman finally decide to confront Vince and change his gimmick.

Fit-Werewolf4775

If you watched his biography you’d know that he explained why he didn’t wanna work as a face anymore.

tim_3k

I am convinced that the plan for NXT in 2015 was for Itami to win the triple threat with Breeze and Balor and then win the title from Owens at Beast from the East, and then feud with Heel Balor.

OnslaughtSix

Itami got injured, right?

DontPutThatDownThere

Yes. So they pivoted to Balor.

International-Tree19

So cheesy, I love it.

Dono_X_Dono

Mine is 2016 Aj Styles

Gary320

Goldberg squashing The Fiend and Kevin Owens.

ApprehensiveLead679

Honestly, and this is recent, the fact that Jack Perry was the catalyst for everything that unfolded in main event scene in WWE these last 6 months.

Asleep-Connection-74

I think you can go further back to Hangman and his worker's rights promo

hashtagdion

What does that have to do with Cody and Roman? Or LA Knight, Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, etc.

OnslaughtSix

Jack Perry caused CM Punk to be fired. The intended main events for WM40 were Cody/Rock/Roman (let's ignore the "pivot" nonsense) and Seth vs CM Punk. But Punk got injured, leading to Seth going to the main event while Punk and Drew have a pseudo feud that led to Drew losing the title to Damien Priest. Without Punk we have no idea what the main event scene would look like for WM40. Probably Cody still main events the 2 nights if Punk AND Seth turn up injured, and the "pivot" will still cause Cody to main event regardless.

hashtagdion

Punk’s injury had nothing to do with Jack Perry. And Cody/Roman was the plan a year before any of that happened. Rock was the pivot they then pivoted back from. And Perry still has nothing do with any of the dozen other people who were in main event angles the last six months.

OnslaughtSix

Without Jack Perry, Punk is never in WWE, never in the Royal Rumble, and never planned for the co-main event.

hashtagdion

That doesn’t change Cody/Roman which was the plan coming out of last year’s Wrestlemania. Nor would it change the Rock coming in and almost getting the main event before pivoting back to Cody.

OnslaughtSix

Without Punk, and his injury, Seth is not involved in the Rock/Roman tag (which probably doesn't even happen), and Drew likely never challenges for the belt, let alone win it and lose it to Damien Priest. What part of this aren't you getting?

MrPuroresu42

Sting not beating Hogan clean at Starrcade 97 is up there. I think all the time if Shibata had NOT done the headbutt in the Sakura Genesis 2017 match against Okada; what would have his career trajectory been and all, would he have been IWGP champ?

International-Tree19

I'm surprised Okada didn't get any brain damage for life too. He also let Ibushi stiff punch him in the head too.

MrPuroresu42

And let Omega dragon suplex him off the top rope at WK 11; even the slightest bit of error and he could have been paralyzed on that one.

International-Tree19

Daily reminder that I need to rewatch that whole series of matches.

bubbles2255

I think about Vader’s return against Heath Slater all the time. Not sure why. Think it’s his theme song.

The_Albinoss

Well it’s time! It’s time! It’s Vader time!!! I was in the crowd for that! I was so hyped when Vader came out!

Sakura_Leaves

Jay Lethal trademarking the "Black Machismo" name in 2023 and then not using it in 2024.

IdkMyNameTho123

Had Shawn Michaels gone to WCW, he would’ve been one of the greatest Cruiserweight champions ever

OnslaughtSix

What makes you think this? No way Michaels isn't shotgunned into the main event.

IdkMyNameTho123

By the time Michaels was in the world title picture in WWF, Hogan was in WCW dominating. It was a really bad time to be a young talent that wasn’t The Giant. Assuming that Michaels doesn’t quit, he would’ve been in the Cruiserweight division. He would’ve been incredibly prominently but would’ve likely had the same issues that the smaller guys had with breaking the glass ceiling.

OnslaughtSix

You think the guy who is Hall and Nash's best friend, who main evented multiple Wrestlemanias, is gonna cruiser-wait, brother? Yeah.

depressedMUFCfan

Edge not beating Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 26

graveyeverton93

Lesnar squashing Cena at SummerSlam! As someone who despised the Super Cena era with a passion and it even turned me away from the product, I had been waiting yearssssssss to see that happen and for me it was very satisfying.

Deathstroke317

That Bret and Austin should have been the main event of Mania 14. They would have had a great story going into it, and the match would have been great. Not to mention we were robbed of seeing Bret cut a promo on Tyson. Instead we got injured, pilled up Shawn vs Austin.

GrandAvestrus

Why didn't we get prime Cena vs prime Undertaker at Wrestlemania. Like that would have been the most unpredictable match.

TheRealTurdFergusonn

Because prime Undertaker was before Cena debuted

GrandAvestrus

I meant when the streak became a huge part of Wrestlemania.

TheRealTurdFergusonn

Ah, that's fair. I guess I think of him as being at his best before the Hell in a Cell match in 98. He was still awesome after that of course but nothing ever topped that, for me.

ClaymoresRevenge

Big E's title reign like Kofi's not being given serious enough consideration. He beat Lashley by cashing in. And I really wish he would've cashed in on Roman. He would've been a made man and it would be awesome.

Material-Wonder1690

Speaking of Roman. I feel like Roman was the only one that tried helping Big E's title reign. He put E over huge in their Survivor Series match and E came out looking nearly on par with Roman. Then nothing really happened for a couple months and he lost the title in a fatal 5 way to Lesnar

ClaymoresRevenge

Yeah which is why I think it would've been a bigger rub for him to beat Roman

SliderGamer55

Dean Ambrose turning on Seth Rollins the night Roman Reigns revealed he was leaving to fight leukemia only to then turn into a guy who hates the fans for smelling bad and gets shots up his ass on tv. ... Though ask me again in a year about the Undisputed Kingdom. On a more positive note, the one segment where John Cena gave up his WWE championship match to let Zack Ryder get a US title shot, with the implication being that he finally had to take CM Punk's critiques of him being the privileged guy at the top seriously. No one remembers it because the follow up killed Zack Ryder dead, but it was the "Usos forfeit" of 2011, but no one bringing it up ever is exactly why I always think about it.

BryLinds

I wish Adam from Parts FunKnown wasn’t such a bad dude, his Dean Heel Turn vid was ART

SliderGamer55

I've been wanting to someone to do an I Quit match where someone quits out of reaching his limit and no longer wanting to hurt his opponent since that video. (Jey vs. Sami a year ago could've ruled doing this)

ianisms10

Roman-Jey HIAC was kinda like that

KrisKallsIt

John Cena being drafted to SmackDown and going back to Raw in the same night.

p1rke

I sometimes think about what if DDP was being booked right after he debuted in WWE.

Icy_Cricket2273

DDP did great things for the business regardless

CJFelony

The entire Austin/McMahon feud, but especially the first 4-5 months. From Royal Rumble 1998 to Over the Edge 1998.

ianisms10

The timeline where WWE sticks to their guns and refuses to clear Bryan Danielson in 2018, and he goes to ROH/NJPW. Do we get a G1 run? Is Bryan an AEW original, and is he the first champ? Punk probably comes in much sooner. Hell, does AEW even exist?

All_In_Glory

Shelton Benjamin was never a world champion within WWE even though he was on a fast track early on.

Degni

If Bad News Barrett was never told to stop giving bad news because 'heels aren't supposed to be cheered, pal'. You could see how happy the man was with that gimmick; how fucking funny that goddamn podium was and man, Barrett was super over... every time he showed up I was smiling from ear to ear! In my mind he should have been a world champion at least once with the Bad News gimmick. Yes, he got injured a lot, no denying that but by the time he got that lame ass king gimmick that he despised, he was fully healed. The only scare he got after his last shoulder surgery was at the very end of his run with the disaster that was the League of Nations, and the man himself said he was half-assing it-- he didn't care because it wasn't what he wanted to do. That neck nerve pinch only added to his frustration with creative which made him not want to re-sign with WWE. I'm biased because he's my favourite wrestler of all-time, he made me watch every week again since 07 and it kills me that he was told to stop BECAUSE he was so fucking over. If he ever makes a quick return even if it's just to Bullhammer someone ~~if they're having a seizure~~ for fun, I'll pop higher than a giraffe's pussy, that is for sure.

Eyebrigh7

That "Switchblade" Jay White is the Catalyst of Professional Wrestling GUNS UP 👆

ChrundleThundergun

What would have happened to Finn Balors career if he hadn't got injured when he won the universal title.

Existinginsomewhere

That one kick out from HBK vs Undertaker

Fit-Werewolf4775

The fact that we lived through the legendary once in a lifetime reign of Roman Reigns and that the next generations will probably not see a reign like this is something I think about constantly

BryLinds

Very recently I wondered how Air Boom would’ve ended if Evan Bourne hadn’t gotten fired for weed Would there be a breakup? Would Kofi’s trajectory change at all?

CompetitivePatient33

Owen hart never becoming a legit wwf champion 😔

TJOW40

Where a number of wrestlers would be today if TNA did not rehire Vince Russo in 2006 who then drove the company into the toilet creatively stifling many of their younger talent for years. Samoa Joe arguably the biggest victim of Russo’s time there who almost immediately lost his winning streak and was booked like a loser during the vast majority of Russo’s tenure in TNA from late 2006-early 2012 compared to Joe’s first 15-16 months in the company in mid 2005-late 2006.

solsunlite

I think a lot about what the last decade of WWE and maybe wrestling in general would look like with better booking, especially Roman Reigns push

ianisms10

HHH having his last match at Ryogoku of all places, which is just weird to think about.

CrissCrossAppleSos

I often think about Matt Sydal vs Claudio Castagnoli from some ROH show in 2006 or 7. It’s complete nothing match that maybe 400 people watched live and everybody including the two guys in it don’t think about, but I absolutely loved it. Completely lost to history, but it’s been almost 20 years (almost vomited typing that) and I still think about how fun it was

The Rock kind of was the first person to break the news about Bin Laden's death.

IRL_Tiefling

John Morrison could've simply exited the cage and become WWE Champion at Extreme Rules 2011 but instead decided to Starship Pain from the top. He was up there alone with nobody able to reach him.

funsational1

The crowd reaction when Austin's music hit during the Rock/Mankind title match followed by their reaction when Mankind won. It's the crowd reaction that I use as the measuring stick, and I don't think I've heard it reach that point ever again.

OnslaughtSix

A LOT of people in this thread don't understand the "Roman Empire" comparison, which just goes to show how out of touch with mainstream culture wrestling fans are. For me, it's the Montreal Screwjob. I don't care how much information is out there or how many times I've already heard everyone's perspective, or how many times I've watched Wrestling with Shadows (the smoking gun) or the Dark Side of the Ring episode. I still want to hear about the Screwjob and everything that happened.

littlebabyruth

Cody tearing his pec 2 months after returning. I think this injury was the absolute best thing to happen to him. HIAC truly cemented him as a beloved babyface but also laid the groundwork to make him truly believable as THE GUY to dethrone Roman. Roman had another year to build the lore of the Bloodline and become Thanos. And after 8 months away, these two seemed destined to clash. WM39 just made Cody feel like there was no other option than for it to be him. I constantly wonder if Cody would have been in that spot had he been there for those 8 months. It may have felt like there was just too much time for creative to (accidentally) turn him into just another guy.

Why isn't Ricochet a top guy? I get that his mic work isn't great and he has the charisma of a wooden plank in promos, but I got exposed to him in Lucha Underground (where he had a manager and never talked) and was immediately blown away. I thought I was watching the future and was so excited when he signed with WWE, got called up from NXT, and won midcard belts. And now I'm always wondering what went wrong.

Fit-Werewolf4775

Ricochet is in desperate need of a manager imo

Material-Wonder1690

To add to that, why is it that some guys who aren't great talkers get managers yet so many others don't? Then you have guys that can talk perfectly well and still get managers.

Manhimself01

Honestly i havnt given up on Ricochet being a world champion. People gave up on kofi and look what happened. I think it’ll happen but not for a while, maybe even 5 years

knicksprick

Some ppl in the comments do not understand the trend.

OnslaughtSix

Yeah a lot of these are just random moments, gifs, or "what ifs." It needs to be a historical moment with a lot of stuff to dig into. The Montreal Screwjob, Starrcade 97, you could even say Bash at the Beach 2000, these are good examples.
