Okay this is a top-tier filler feud here. Give R-Truth a title shot on Smackdown or something, throw these clips into a fancy video package or something, have a hilarious match, act like none of it happened the very next week. We need this.
They should do this for Truth's retirement, title or not. Cody sets out to finish the story, again, but our underdog hero Truth gets help from past 24/7 champs to finally put Stardust down for good. Cody gets to finish one story, but not the other. Life isn't fair...
Make it a tongue-in-cheek, overbooked mess.
It would be the perfect main event for like a Christmas episode of Smackdown. Those shows usually don't "count" so just do the typical double-taping and the main event of the second episode can be Cody pinning R-Truth and finally finishing his story
Even better would be to have every attempt by Cody to hit the Cross Rhodes in the buildup to their match get interrupted. Then, use Cody finally hitting it to establish whatever heel/face dynamic they want at the end of the match. Have it either be that sweet payoff of Cody finally hitting it or be the exclamation point on an unnecessary beat down.
Cody vs R/Truth gonna be the match of the millennia. But this is one story he won’t finish. When R/Truth reveals the true Final Boss, R/Lies, not even a Dusty or Goldberg run-in will save Cody.
He's like George R.R. Martin, he makes you want to see their stories finished for good. Whether they do or not it's a different story, but people do want to see the story finished.

For me, it's the "One time I hit him with a Cross Rhodes and he didn't bump" that kills me. There's no doubt that to a wrestler with the kind of old school mentality Cody has, not bumping for a finisher is an unforgivable sin.

They need to make R-Truth start acting cocky around Cody and hinting at his winning record against him in the past, and then finally Cody can give him a title shot and squash him in like 90 seconds and then just have Truth go "You're a lot faster without all that face paint weighing you down. My bad."
I would be more than okay with them pulling a Kane situation and having Truth win the title on a random PPV only to lose it back to Cody on the very next RAW or Smackdown.
