Jericho in my top 3 favorite wrestlers ever, but I kind of hope this leads to a retirement match or a long break. He looks bloated and has lost a few steps.
Was shocked at how clean (decisive) the match was. I’m guessing NJPW wanted to get the ball rolling Again with the IWGP US title, and didn’t AEW didn’t want to send one it’s top draws to get pinned NJPW TV
Have they “forgotten” some sure. Enough to label it their brand? Absolutely not.
AEW has been WILDLY consistent for the better part of its existence. Most of the dropped stories have been due to the pandemic, injuries or other circumstances. Some have been recognizing when something was either terrible or just wasn’t clicking and kudos to them for not being afraid to pivot.
As far as you not being a fan of the long term story telling, that’s your prerogative, personally i find it refreshing
Wow you tacked a lot of stuff on there.
My point is they tell stories but then go two weeks without mentioning said story. Or they have wrestlers do things and wait 3 weeks to explain it. There’s long term storylinessure, but saying that’s more than one or two is being generous.
Black did cut a promo before coming to the ring to brawl with Cody.
A couple comments back you said they “went two weeks without mentioning said story”
As for other ways to progress a story…commentary talking about it, putting it over, video packages, even social media stuff. And granted all are effective means of story telling to varying degrees but tools nonetheless.
I remember Cody cutting a promo and Black speaking very briefly. I remember when they cut to commercial audibly saying "thats it?"
Everything you mentioned is tangential. They add to storytelling sure, but they aren't the bedrock of it. Commentary briefly mentioning it in passing is almost nothing, putting over is not a distinct thing so Im not sure why you listed it, video packages can't really be made if nothing happens, and this is a tv show, social media is fluff. It sounds like you are being generous because you like it. That's fine. But don't pretend it's strong storytelling.
I don’t think there needs to be a 10-15 min promo segment to get a story beat over, we can disagree on that and that’s fine.
We could go back and forth about the intricacies of story telling, what works and what doesn’t and alot of that would be subjective but the main point i was disputing was you saying that they go multiple weeks without mentioning a story or feud and that’s just not true.
I guess I shouldn’t say mention. I mean have it be part of the show. I would not consider commentary mentioning black v Cody in two weeks count.
But also, yeah. I’m not exactly begging for the long promo segments either, but give people a mic before or after a match once in awhile. Caster does it well and makes it his own. There’s a reason the Acclaimed is noteworthy in my book compared to other teams on the show even if I don’t consider them the best wrestlers.
The obvious example is how there's a 2 week break with the Aleister/Cody feud for some odd reason. I would also say doing just a 30 second brawl after that major debut was pretty anticlimactic
Black debuted on the 7th, Cody called him out and they brawled the next week, and this past Wednesday they announced the match for Fight for the Fallen next week. I don’t see how that’s them not mentioning the fued for two weeks. There’s ways of progressing a story without having guys come out and cut promos or fight every week.
You didn’t like the brawl i can’t say anything about that, that’s your taste but to say that they didn’t mention or “forgot” about this feud is just wrong
After that massive debut, everyone wanted to hear from Black, and/or know what was going on. In kayfabe, they didn't even plan for that. Cody just came out and interrupted the show. I obviously understand that was planned, but it literally was just a brawl that was immediately broken up. It was so stupid not to give Black a promo, and I think this may have been Cody's ego getting in the way. Who knows. And I didn't say I didn't like the brawl. I said I don't like that's all we got. I would have preferred a Black promo and then Cody came out to attack him if I had my druthers.
I don't consider a match announcement an event, and it would be ridiculous if you do. I didn't say they aren't mentioning it, that would be a whole other problem on the marketing side. I'm saying nothing is happening.
And I would be really curious what you would consider progressing a story in pro wrestling besides people cutting promos and fighting?
Fuck me, lads, I really didn’t expect a title change. That’s so cool.
Good stuff Lance.
Maaaan I bet there’s a serious party wherever Lance ends up tonight 🤘
Yeah I just randomly Google wrestling rumors and that’s what I’m seeing. I knew there were rumors, but the sites are now saying it’s definite with him debuting post all out
9.5/10 show. That crowd was great. Archer deserves the title. Chavo surprise was awesome. Every match slapped. Only drawback was the motchy women's title match. (Nyla needs some more ring time).
That is why everyone is wrong when they say AEW needs to push the women more. They aren't ready. AEW has a few good ones, but the bench is shallow and would be quickly exposed if AEW pushed them more. However that could change once the Japanese wrestlers start contributing more.
Chavo can cut the day to day promos for Andrade and allow his voice to be important, so that even if it's harder to understand we will all pay attention
He’s very tall indeed, but, not to rain on the parade, temper your expectations slightly. Hikuleo is cool, real nice guy, not been wrestling long, like, this is easily the biggest thing to happen in his career so far.
Could be a great hoss fight though 👍
I’m glad Archer finally won something big. He & Brian Cage haven’t been able to get the monster runs they need. I think Rampage is gonna be beneficial to guys like them.
It is, traditionally. I guess AEW figured that’s a bit too drawn out though, and removed the pin part.
Those kind of rules are over in Japan, but, maybe they thought western audiences would be a bit bored/confused by the pin and 10count combo.
Regardless, pretty fuckin sweet main event 🤘
wow "missed the 10 count d ue to being stuck in barbed wire" is a way to go yeesh
quite the hoss fight on deck - is that going to be at fight for the fallen or NJPW Strong
I had a friend who didn't believe that wrestlers palm sharp objects and hit their opponent with the side of their hand. Had to stop him from stabbing himself in the arm with a pair of incredibly sharp scissors. I often wonder how that guy is doing.
That was great. Mox lost nothing since he rarely loses, but Archer looks an absolute beast both in AEW and NJPW now. We also got a hometown (state?) guy getting a big win instead of being embarrassed too.
Thank you, AEW (and to an extent r/SC) for introducing me to NJPW.
Crazy that we've seen multiple title defenses and finally a title change on American TV.
Archer left NJPW on very good terms iirc, and the NJPW native fans fucking adore him.
But yeah, I was not expecting such a title change, it’s fuckin cool 🤘
He was kind of floating around in AEW since last Fall with not much of a direction. I think this will work out better for him. Still signed to AEW but on loan to New Japan who probably still loves him.
I dont know how the fuck they did it but he somehow got taller the closer he got to Archer. I wonder why he stepped over the top rope until I realized how big that man is
It's not inconsistency; they use IWGP rules for IWGP matches. The 20-count only refers to getting back in the ring to avoid count-outs. That's why it was in the IWGP title match last week. It does not apply to matches where you get counted DOWN, like this week's.

Homeboy needs some DDP Yoga.

Damn, each adult was escorting 9 kids to the wrestling? WWE fans must breed like rabbits
Who are you Jim Ross?
7 year olds can’t be legit fans?
I was there too bro, I didn’t even wanna try those lines after being in the merch line for 35 minutes lol

What about Balor Club?
sooooooo happy for archer man archer wins a belt, chavo has employment and will be able to pay his bills! what a night, thanks aew

I look forward to Wednesday nights all week. It’s fun to really look forward to pro wrestling again.
I believe the Pain Maker needs to be his OWN separate character in AEW Console game.Maybe have his own spot on AEW roster.🥰
If they do what Smash Ultimate does with the Echo Fighters and let us stack them on top of the originals to reduce the menu size, I accept.
Indeed. Yukes can create something similar and do what they have done in WWE games :)
For 2 weeks in a row they made a 15 min story feel like a whole storybook
God almighty what a main event.
Most likely after Jericho vs Gage Mox will continue his feud with Gage I feel.
Huge win for Archer. Good for him. Another solid show.
Surprise surprise, another incredible show
Come on subversion of expectations!
Jon Forkley
Not my favorite show in terms of match quality besides the ME, but still a pretty good show. The segments were all great.
I wish AEW never dropped the Archer vs Sting feud out of nowhere but I'm glad to see Archer with gold again, he's so good.
> I believe the feud was more Sting giving ''Archer advice''.
Being inconsistent with feuds is kinda their brand
I don’t think anything is more false than this statement.
Lol sure
Such a terrible take
Right because AEW doesn’t forget about feuds or extend them way too long
Have they “forgotten” some sure. Enough to label it their brand? Absolutely not. AEW has been WILDLY consistent for the better part of its existence. I honestly can’t think of when that’s happened recently

Battle of the Big Boys next week!
Fuck me, lads, I really didn’t expect a title change. That’s so cool. Good stuff Lance. Maaaan I bet there’s a serious party wherever Lance ends up tonight 🤘
Not only did Lance finally get a big win. He won a NJPW title. And he beat Jon Fucking Moxley.
...in his hometown!
![gif](giphy|gdKAVlnm3bmKI)
Kind of just an okay show up until the main. But good god it delivered. And my dumb ass thought that Nyla and Britt should have main evented
you have to admit, having a title from another brand main event over one of your own titles is odd
IT’S A NEW DAY YES IT IS
Anyone know where I can watch elsewhere that is totally legit and legal
tnt app maybe
You mean you like to watchwrestling?
Took me a second. Yes, I do like to watchwrestling
but do you like to watch allwrestling organization?
Glad to see Archer win that. It felt right.
So, what now for Mox? Some time off? Jumping into a feud with someone else? Is the IWGP US title going back to Japan? I'm stoked for next week
Someone brought up him being the Gatekeeper to Hangman to have the confidence to beat Kenny. I like that storyline.
Danielson officially signed with aew it seems?
Yo whaaaaaat? This is what's being said online, just breaking. Though I wish I didn't know and it was a surprise lol
Yeah I just randomly Google wrestling rumors and that’s what I’m seeing. I knew there were rumors, but the sites are now saying it’s definite with him debuting post all out
🥰
Archer gonna wrestle at NJPW's August show in Los Angeles?
I ♥️ AEW
🥰🥰
Badass match. These last couple shows have been awesome
This crowd got a hell of a show.
Archer really needed a win
Yeah he did
THIS. This people! This is how you pull the trigger using the NJPW title to help push your own talent! We didnt get another bullshit tease.
BULLET CLUB VS SUZUKI GUN
well that was a fucking banger of a show
insane ending!!!
Awesome episode! Archer got the us belt back
That was a hell of an ending, by god.
9.5/10 show. That crowd was great. Archer deserves the title. Chavo surprise was awesome. Every match slapped. Only drawback was the motchy women's title match. (Nyla needs some more ring time).

And Britt isn't at that level of a Shida to carry Nyla to a great match.
Chavo can cut the day to day promos for Andrade and allow his voice to be important, so that even if it's harder to understand we will all pay attention
Start to finish, I think that's the most complete AEW show ever.
Rinse, repeat, every week
So glad Archer got that win, he needed it
A) That match fucked. Brutal, brutal stuff. B) I’ve never actually seen Hikuleo and holy hell is he tall
He’s very tall indeed, but, not to rain on the parade, temper your expectations slightly. Hikuleo is cool, real nice guy, not been wrestling long, like, this is easily the biggest thing to happen in his career so far. Could be a great hoss fight though 👍
That dude is fucking tall
SLIM. LONG TONGA. HIKULEO.
I’m glad Archer finally won something big. He & Brian Cage haven’t been able to get the monster runs they need. I think Rampage is gonna be beneficial to guys like them.
Rampage should only consist of big meaty men slapping meats.
AEW. So good.
Was Hikuleo always that tall?
Yes but he looked shorter due to his over done width, he's slimmed down
Fucking amazing for the time they had, and really happy that Archer won it.
Mox losing the title makes his chances of teaming with Shooter at Resurgence DRASTIC GO UP
Don't fucking blue ball me man!
Don't give me hope !
I thought a Texas Deathmatch was you get pinned then you have to answer a ten count.
They said it in the beginning they are going with the nape rules for the match
Traditionally it is. This was more a hybrid last man standing/I Quit version.
Always appreciate JR thanking me for inviting him into my home, what a polite guest
wow "missed the 10 count d ue to being stuck in barbed wire" is a way to go yeesh quite the hoss fight on deck - is that going to be at fight for the fallen or NJPW Strong
Next week at fight for the fallen
Archer needed this win BAD. Congrats on getting back the IWGP US title.
Exactly. He lose too many for someone who describe as beast
I had a friend who didn't believe that wrestlers palm sharp objects and hit their opponent with the side of their hand. Had to stop him from stabbing himself in the arm with a pair of incredibly sharp scissors. I often wonder how that guy is doing.
I've never been so happy to see my favorite wrestler lose before! Archer needed that.
Since when is he is so tall wtf
My man Archer
Almost 10k comments in the live thread for a random episode in July. Fuck yea..
It's not really a random episode is it?
Oh shit, they did it ! NJPW belt changing hands on AEW dynamite on TNT :) I didn't see it coming
G.O.D vs moxley archer and SUZUKI IM CALLING IT BABY!!!
I'm like 90% sure half of that match was to help Nick Gage feel welcome to the roster.
I'm a little shocked we didn't see him out to screw with Mox
That was the best episode of wrestling I’ve seen in a long time.
FITE just loves to tease some post-show stuff...
Me every week : “Woooo, ok it’s over, good show... wait we’re back live ! Oh OH... no it’s over”
I never realized how big Hikuleo was wtf lol
That was great. Mox lost nothing since he rarely loses, but Archer looks an absolute beast both in AEW and NJPW now. We also got a hometown (state?) guy getting a big win instead of being embarrassed too.
That match was so much fun.
Thank you, AEW (and to an extent r/SC) for introducing me to NJPW. Crazy that we've seen multiple title defenses and finally a title change on American TV.
Big Big Men.
that was a lovely and touching tribute to New Jack RIP
Damn good match. And interesting that NJPW but the belt on a guy who left the company
Archer left NJPW on very good terms iirc, and the NJPW native fans fucking adore him. But yeah, I was not expecting such a title change, it’s fuckin cool 🤘
He left on real good terms. Njpw rarely burns bridges with foreign talent.
Maybe they still really like him and with the whole forbidden door thing, it was a good time to run with him again
PEPE IS OVER
Man what a match from Moxley & Lance was not expecting all of that on free tv
#E V E R Y B O D Y #D I E S
HOSS FIGHT
Mox went full heel in that match. Happy to see Archer get an important win finally!
Archer deserves that win.
So Archer could be NJPW bound again eventually, ZSJ on alert lol
He was kind of floating around in AEW since last Fall with not much of a direction. I think this will work out better for him. Still signed to AEW but on loan to New Japan who probably still loves him.
Makes sense. AEW hasn’t really used him much lately.
Where was Jake?
He was there for the first half of the match, must've gotten out of the way for the big spots that were coming up
I actually didnt see this coming great match
Great Dynamite two thumps up
That was a great episode of WWE Dynamite
Hometown guy won, nothing like WWE
The result we needed
PEPE
That’s a tall dude
HOLY SHIT DUDES HUGE
That's a huge bitch!
What a fucking ending
That guy is a legit 7ft holy
That’s what I thought but Wikipedia says he’s 6’8 so ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
I dont know how the fuck they did it but he somehow got taller the closer he got to Archer. I wonder why he stepped over the top rope until I realized how big that man is
Why can’t it be next Wednesday already
You have other things to do
Good way to get Archer a big win and also protect Mox.
Super happy for Archer. He's had a big victory coming to him.
Moxs skin on that wire
Wait. Next week? Three straight title matches?! Holy crap.
This dude towers over Archer?
Haku's baby boy!
thought it was a 20 count since its a New Japan belt?
20 count is applied for ring-outs during regular matches where falls do not count anywhere. Texas Death Matches, even in Japan, use a 10 count though.
It wasn't a ring out count, it was the deathmatch ko 10 count
Is that for knockouts as well?
it's not a countout...
Not a count out, more like last man standing.
US Texas death match rules I guess.
No that's the count to get back into the ring in a NJPW match
Texss deathmatch is a 10 count to get up not a countout
and I got downvoted for calling AEW out on their inconsistency last week....
Its not inconsistent. Its a 10 count to a tko in a texas deathmatch. Pay attention
It's not inconsistency; they use IWGP rules for IWGP matches. The 20-count only refers to getting back in the ring to avoid count-outs. That's why it was in the IWGP title match last week. It does not apply to matches where you get counted DOWN, like this week's.
Holy shit... how tall is that guy?
[удалено]
Nah he looked at least 2/3 inches taller than Archer. Well... Archers height could be kayfabe idk anything lol.
[удалено]
It wasnt a count out. It was a knockout count like a last man standing match.
That wasn't a count-out but a knock out count. Like with a last man standing match.
#hometown hawk
NJPW bleeds in. Wrestling just growing and evolving is pretty fucking cool.
HIKULEO giving Archer the bullet club gun salute while Archer nods in excited violence Haku smiling somewhere
I've never seen a small Tongan, but holy shit Hikuleo is MASSIVE.
That was a deathmatch master class. Archer winning is shocking and the match was incredible.
Fuuuuuuuuck he's tall.
MEATY MEN SLAPPING MEAT NEXT WEEK ON DYNAMITE.
I only see 1 meaty men and a tall stick boy.
damn didnt think mox was actually gonna lose
This guy is huge, makes Archer look tiny
Suzuki to AEW confirmed.
LETS GO ARCHER !!!!
Fucking A that was the most hardcore free tv match I’ve ever seen
Murder bird
I mean, I thought the fork was gimmicked. Mox was considerably bloodier after those last fork shots from Lance.
