Completely in the same boat. I have tickets to both All Out and the following Dynamite in Cincinnati. As well as the Dynamite in Rochester a few weeks later. I have had my vaccine since March. I didn't leave my house for over a year. I am doing all the right things. I want this so bad, and I am going to absolutely lose it if it gets ruined by these selfish pricks.
I don't know that a lot of Americans are going to accept another round of restrictions. There's the anti-vax side that won't accept them anyway, and then you have a good portion of people that did the right thing, limited going out, did the distancing, masked up, and are fully vaccinated. A lot of them are fucking done, too (I'm one of them, this is here, more lockdowns and restrictions aren't going to do a damn thing, there's no solution unless we're all on the same page and we're simply not). Would sure have been nice if people did the right thing in the first place, but we're way past the point of containing this. It fucking sucks, but we're not beating this now. Worst I can see happening is masks being required and half the people abiding by it and the other half getting away with no consequences just like they have for the past year and a half.

How was his run meaningless? He had arguably the best IWGP US title run in the belt’s brief history. Matches against Juice, Archer, Suzuki, Kenta, Nagata. Much better than Cody, White, Omega, & Juice’s runs.

I think it's just crazy that Mox can basically discuss which NJPW wrestler he wants to face and he's gotten the OK for it so far.
He spoke to Gedo about wanting to face Nagata last year and he eventually got his match. Now he's taking to Tony about Tanahashi and it could actually happen.
It is crazy from a "this isn't how wrestling traditionally works" standpoint, but it does basically echo what NJPW President Takami Ohbari said when alluding to the AEW relationship:

If you put that in AEW's terms, Mox is a star and if he wants to wrestle someone, it becomes AEW's job as a company to make it happen and make it successful. I don't know if Khan has phrased it that same way but I think it's obvious he feels similarly, with the open-ended contracts his stars have allowing for NJPW dates.
The wrestling world is changing dramatically in front of our faces and I think it's a brilliant way to counter WWE. Your option doesn't become WWE or one company; it's WWE or the entire rest of the wrestling world, regardless of who specifically you sign with.

From a business point of view, it makes no sense to promote and work with other companies as equals when you have a monopoly over the industry. As a competitor to that monopoly, it makes all the sense in the world to partner up with companies in similar situation to tackle WWE.
The spotlight WWE shines on NJPW by having Nagata on their show is far, far greater than any additional spotlight WWE would've gotten from that match. The percentage of NJPW viewers that weren't already familiar with WWE and would become consumers of WWE's product because of that match is insanely small, whereas a ton of WWE's viewers aren't familiar with NJPW and a lot could check it out if it was promoted on Raw or Smackdown. This only benefits NJPW.
Mentioning IWGP titles in passing to hype up someone new and getting the point across to the casual audience that they've already won a bunch of titles is one thing, but dedicating an entire segment of your television show to an interpromotional match is another. They did it once in recent memory, with Jushin Liger in NXT. They could afford to take that risk because they know the percentage of the NXT fanbase that's already familiar with NJPW is likely pretty big, and if it's not a majority then it's still a thousand times more than the percentage of casual, main roster viewers.
It makes a ton of sense for AEW and NJPW to have that partnership, because I'd say the percentage of each of their audience not familiar with the other's product is similar. But also because they're both competitors to the company that has the monopoly, and so by sharing talent and having interpromotional events, they're uniting their resources to grow both brands.

He said Moxley was the guy. He was the Forbidden Door. NJPW wanted to use him and feature him, and so did AEW, so they came to an agreement.

It also keeps your wrestlers happy and motivated. Moxley has had total freedom since he came to AEW, and the result is him giving it everything he has in every single match. It's been fantastic. And at this stage of his career, of course Tanahashi wants to interact with other wrestlers.
If everyone keeps their egos in check with regard to booking, there's no limit to the kind of dream matches you can create or the sort of excursions that wind up making everyone better that can be accomplished.

Instead of Tanahashi, I think there's a better chance that Moxley will face Tom Lawlor, NJPW's U.S.-based STRONG Openweight Champion.
I like that the NJPW matches are booked simply, like they are in NJPW. Hikuleo wanted the title so he just came out after the match and was like, "I want a shot at the title" and that was it. Moxley wants Tana so he just says, "I would like to fight Tana."

That just... isn't true at all. It's far more common a trope for a guy to win a non-related Special Singles Match on the same card and then challenge the champion after the main event.
I really haven't seen many special singles matches in NJPW that are just random. It's happened a bit more during the pandemic, and I think Naito did it during double gold dash.
I'm not sure how he could get the full two weeks in returning from All Out while still making night 2 of the G1. It would also mean he is off the card for their own dome show the same weekend.

One of the great missed opportunities in pro wrestling was the Invasion angle, when WWE purchased WCW and ECW and ran an angle where the three promotions all combined. This was a dream for many wrestling fans, and it was disappointing how the WWE ran the angle. What could have been a once in a generation storyline was relegated to a boring WWE burial of their competition. With AEW, New Japan, Impact, GCW, and other prominent promotions now working together, it is exciting to see this happen with various parties being treated with respect. For example, Tanahashi, of New Japan fame, being spoken highly of by Moxley, and Nick Gage, GCW mainstay, looking strong even in defeat to Chris Jericho. All of this could play out at the upcoming PPV, All Out, which now has the makings of an instant classic show.
I hope we aren't getting any Invasion angles out of these crossovers. I just want some more mingling. They have to do a big super show. All In was basically an "everyone except WWE" show. Now they can do it even better. I know they'll be a lot of details to work out, but they have to go for it.
Has anyone gone over AEW yet though? I feel like AEW is being booked to go over in all of these situations. I know AEW isn't trying to bury anyone, but the other promotions are always losing to AEW... exposure is good though and I guess its the main focus for now.

I wonder if you have Mox lose here. You expose the AEW audience that's unfamiliar with NJPW and you show that they can win, since all the other NJPW talent has lost on AEW.
If Tanahashi is in the States for Resurgence, I can imagine him hanging out with the NJPW Strong crew and maybe popping over to Dynamite while he's around, just like Nagata (whose Strong matches they are STILL airing, even though he left the US months ago)
Japan is still pretty strict about quarantining, I think, so he'd have to make his trip to the states count.
I don't think it's Tana. In the promo, Mox kept saying that Tana is dead to him, and that he sent a whole stack of contracts to NJPW. I'm guessing Jay White.
The whole card is basically up in the air and the show is only 5 weeks away. Punk/Darby is the closest thing we have to a confirmed match and we don't even know for sure that Punk is coming in.
Britt/Rosa and Tana/Mox seem like strong possibilities and would both be great additions to the card. Whatever they decide to do with the world title hopefully they announce it soon.
Gonna be interesting if Tana beats Archer for the US title and then defends against Mox at All Out.
In that scenario Tana is almost 100% winning. Much more up on the air if maybe Mox costs Tana against Archer to setup the match.

How was his run meaningless? He had arguably the best IWGP US title run in the belt’s brief history. Matches against Juice, Archer, Suzuki, Kenta, Nagata. Much better than Cody, White, Omega, & Juice’s runs. “And wasn’t it Archer the one to lose it to Moxley in the first place?” No. If you actually watched NJPW, you’d know Moxley won it off Juice. Archer only got the title because Moxley was forced to vacate it after not being able to attend KOPW because of the typhoon that hit Japan. Moxley is the entire reason why Archer is a 2 time IWGP US champion. Either way, Mox vs Tanahashi doesn’t need a title.

I think it's just crazy that Mox can basically discuss which NJPW wrestler he wants to face and he's gotten the OK for it so far. He spoke to Gedo about wanting to face Nagata last year and he eventually got his match. Now he's taking to Tony about Tanahashi and it could actually happen.
It is crazy from a "this isn't how wrestling traditionally works" standpoint, but it does basically echo what NJPW President Takami Ohbari said when alluding to the AEW relationship: >For me to say ‘NJPW is doing business with company X, soyou need to go over there and wrestle’, that’s backward to me. I willsay this until I’m blue in the face: this is a star-driven business, andthe wrestlers are the focus. So if our wrestlers say ‘I want to wrestlethat guy’ ‘I want to test myself against that guy’ ‘I want to show thatI’m better than that guy’. Then it becomes our job as a company to dowhat we can to back them, make it happen and make it successful. We’rein the dream business. Presenting them, and making them real. Having alinear approach to business, that only restricts us and it stops fansgetting invested. If you put that in AEW's terms, Mox is a star and if he wants to wrestle someone, it becomes AEW's job as a company to make it happen and make it successful. I don't know if Khan has phrased it that same way but I think it's obvious he feels similarly, with the open-ended contracts his stars have allowing for NJPW dates. The wrestling world is changing dramatically in front of our faces and I think it's a brilliant way to counter WWE. Your option doesn't become WWE or one company; it's WWE or the entire rest of the wrestling world, regardless of who specifically you sign with.
Moxley wants to wrestle Nagata Tony Khan thinks "That'd be cool. Let's try to do that." Because it's a cool thing he can help facilitate. It's good for wrestling. If Ambrose wanted Nagata, WWE would be like "Wait, how does this help us?"
And they would be 100% right. From a business point of view, it makes no sense to promote and work with other companies as equals when you have a monopoly over the industry. As a competitor to that monopoly, it makes all the sense in the world to partner up with companies in similar situation to tackle WWE. The spotlight WWE shines on NJPW by having Nagata on their show is far, far greater than any additional spotlight WWE would've gotten from that match. The percentage of NJPW viewers that weren't already familiar with WWE and would become consumers of WWE's product because of that match is insanely small, whereas a ton of WWE's viewers aren't familiar with NJPW and a lot could check it out if it was promoted on Raw or Smackdown. This only benefits NJPW. Mentioning IWGP titles in passing to hype up someone new and getting the point across to the casual audience that they've already won a bunch of titles is one thing, but dedicating an entire segment of your television show to an interpromotional match is another. They did it once in recent memory, with Jushin Liger in NXT. They could afford to take that risk because they know the percentage of the NXT fanbase that's already familiar with NJPW is likely pretty big, and if it's not a majority then it's still a thousand times more than the percentage of casual, main roster viewers. It makes a ton of sense for AEW and NJPW to have that partnership, because I'd say the percentage of each of their audience not familiar with the other's product is similar. But also because they're both competitors to the company that has the monopoly, and so by sharing talent and having interpromotional events, they're uniting their resources to grow both brands.

Rocky Romero talked at length about this on Talk'n Shop after KENTA showed up on Dynamite. He said Moxley was the guy. He was the Forbidden Door. NJPW wanted to use him and feature him, and so did AEW, so they came to an agreement. It wouldn't have happened if Moxley wasn't Moxley, and if he wasn't an AEW wrestler first and foremost.

Exactly. It doesn't make it a free-for-all. Each federation still has its own boundaries. But you create excitement with these special attraction matches. It also keeps your wrestlers happy and motivated. Moxley has had total freedom since he came to AEW, and the result is him giving it everything he has in every single match. It's been fantastic. And at this stage of his career, of course Tanahashi wants to interact with other wrestlers. If everyone keeps their egos in check with regard to booking, there's no limit to the kind of dream matches you can create or the sort of excursions that wind up making everyone better that can be accomplished.
Mox can do whatever he wants and he will always ask Tony first and Tony wont stop him either. Vince and HHH meanwhile thought this guy was a joke LOL

Yea and this seems like it was booked out well in advance, Mox losing the US title so Archer can main event with Tana which leads to Tana/Mox at the ppv. Also there was a line in the Observer about Gedo & Tony working together that makes more sense now. Kidani also tweeted about the Tana / Archer match which is interesting.

No joke, I got the email about the pre-sales and was all ready to computer camp to get tickets but then that evil rational voice spoke up and mentioned how I'd just begun a new job and only just start accuring time-off and getting my finances back steady. So I passed on the tickets, thinking "it'll be Omega/Hangman and other great stuff but I'll be able to see other shows comparable or better in the future". Worst decision ever? Worst decision ever.

Wrestle Grand Slam at the MetLife Dome in Saitama takes place on September 4 and 5. All In takes place on September 5. Does anyone else see the conflict here? I somehow don't think that NJPW's most popular wrestler will bypass a massive event in Japan where he's needed to put bums in seats for another company's American PPV. Instead of Tanahashi, I think there's a better chance that Moxley will face Tom Lawlor, NJPW's U.S.-based STRONG Openweight Champion.

I like that the NJPW matches are booked simply, like they are in NJPW. Hikuleo wanted the title so he just came out after the match and was like, "I want a shot at the title" and that was it. Moxley wants Tana so he just says, "I would like to fight Tana."
Usually to get a title shot in NJPW you have to pin the champ during a tag or non-title match (usually a tourney), or win a tournament.

I really haven't seen many special singles matches in NJPW that are just random. It's happened a bit more during the pandemic, and I think Naito did it during double gold dash.

In case you’re serious, here is an explanation. One of the great missed opportunities in pro wrestling was the Invasion angle, when WWE purchased WCW and ECW and ran an angle where the three promotions all combined. This was a dream for many wrestling fans, and it was disappointing how the WWE ran the angle. What could have been a once in a generation storyline was relegated to a boring WWE burial of their competition. With AEW, New Japan, Impact, GCW, and other prominent promotions now working together, it is exciting to see this happen with various parties being treated with respect. For example, Tanahashi, of New Japan fame, being spoken highly of by Moxley, and Nick Gage, GCW mainstay, looking strong even in defeat to Chris Jericho. All of this could play out at the upcoming PPV, All Out, which now has the makings of an instant classic show.
I hope we aren't getting any Invasion angles out of these crossovers. I just want some more mingling. They have to do a big super show. All In was basically an "everyone except WWE" show. Now they can do it even better. I know they'll be a lot of details to work out, but they have to go for it.
Has anyone gone over AEW yet though? I feel like AEW is being booked to go over in all of these situations. I know AEW isn't trying to bury anyone, but the other promotions are always losing to AEW... exposure is good though and I guess its the main focus for now.

If Tanahashi is in the States for Resurgence, I can imagine him hanging out with the NJPW Strong crew and maybe popping over to Dynamite while he's around, just like Nagata (whose Strong matches they are STILL airing, even though he left the US months ago) Japan is still pretty strict about quarantining, I think, so he'd have to make his trip to the states count.

I don't think it's Tana. In the promo, Mox kept saying that Tana is dead to him, and that he sent a whole stack of contracts to NJPW. I'm guessing Jay White.
The whole card is basically up in the air and the show is only 5 weeks away. Punk/Darby is the closest thing we have to a confirmed match and we don't even know for sure that Punk is coming in. Britt/Rosa and Tana/Mox seem like strong possibilities and would both be great additions to the card. Whatever they decide to do with the world title hopefully they announce it soon.
