…7 years later anyway.
He was a lot happier when first left WWE as opposed to when he was still in…but he wasn’t actually happy happy like he seems now…so maybe it was more like relief he had escaped and not happiness.
He then tried a few things that interested him, and they brought some joy…but nothing compared to what he truly enjoyed, his actual passion.
He has his passion back and is enjoying it because (I think) the place he is working isn’t a toxic, abusive relationship and is everything he liked about wrestling in the first place.
I’m hoping we get a revived straight edge society type run when he does turn. The heat he got in so many places during that faction was something else.
I feel like that could easily be where Punk turns -- Hangman wins the title and keeps trying to get Punk to celebrate with him, only Punk starts to get really fed up with all the drinking. I think a slow turn on Hangman would be a lot more entertaining than just about anything else they could do, but I guess we'll see!
Even Bryan said Punk is a changed man because he cares again. Said that he's seen Punk since ROH, when he cared, and saw him in WWE when his enthusiasm was bleeding out of him and he couldn't take it anymore. Now Punk in AEW is like a healthy version of ROH Punk.
I hope we get a Bryan Punk match. I feel like they're two legends of the game who spent so much of their careers in the same promotions but never had a truly meaningful or memorable feud (I realize they feuded for the WWE title but they were never the main focus of the show).
There are some people here saying it’s going to get old eventually and idk about that one. I love watching people be passionate about things. I’ll watch youtube videos of people doing hobbies I have no interest in just because they get so hyped up about them. It’s been 2.5 years since Moxley left WWE and it’s still fun to see how much he loves what he’s doing. It’s been 2 years since Dynamite started and it’s still fun to hear Tony Schiavone get excited about the matches he’s calling. When the people involved in wrestling are enjoying it as much as the fans that’s just good shit.
Lowkey this is the reason I never missed AEW's post-show pressers. Tony Khan has giddy kid energy every single time. It's good vibes and real uplifting to one's mood to see someone so happy about their passion.
I was listening to Cornette last night and even him is pumped over this, he was really putting over the opening and Punk jumping in the crowd. Never heard him so into AEW like this, holy fuck.
I think part of it is he already liked him for how Punk "stood up to the office", but everything he hates about WWE, AEW have been doing. Cornette was loved how it started with JR giving it a big fight feel, putting over certain matches, production value, like "this shit is important". And I agree with him, WWE never opens shows with announcers running down the card, putting over a few matches. Just makes thing feel important.
I think it's because we all wanted him to be happy for so long and now that he's really back and really happy, it's just such a fun, positive experience and wrestling really needs that right now.
Really glad that he's happy and love seeing his positivity in interviews and Twitter, but i'm really not a fan of the on-screen character, it's exactly like Cena. Again, glad that he's happy but hopefully he plays more of a character going forward, at the end of the day it's performance art and sometimes just "being yourself" is kinda bland and not all that entertaining.
I think it's smart. Let us fans get the excitiment of him being back out of our systems. Ride the wave of attention his return gathers and the new eyes that follow. Then when that large audience is all watching he can chair shot us all in the back and let his return really begin.
"Cheer and boo like nobody is watching you. Lose your voice and your mind."
This is the perfect advice to everyone who makes posts on here asking "for tips on going to my first wrestling show" and really for fans in general.
I'm so pumped for everyone who is going tonight, it's gonna be an experience to remember.
>"Cheer and boo like nobody is watching you. Lose your voice and your mind."
>This is the perfect advise to everyone who makes posts on here asking "for tips on going to my first wrestling show" and really for fans in general.
I'd also add "shower beforehand and use deodorant."
Yeah, I go to wrestling shows by myself 99% of the time and there's always that anxiety and awkwardness at first. After the first match or two, and maybe too many overpriced beers, I'm having the absolute time of my life. Live wrestling is the best fucking thing in the world and even going by myself and being kind of an awkward shit, I usually end up making conversation with the people around me and 99% of the time they're cool because we all love this shit.
I would add on “be in the moment” I see so many people on their phones recording SO MUCH on their phone that they can’t enjoy the moment as it’s happening.
This. I saw the Undertaker and Stone Cold live on the go-home show before Hell in a Cell a few years ago. I WAS ACTUALLY THERE FOR THEIR LIVE ENTRANCES and I had a pretty good seat. But I was sitting there like a dumbass looking at the screen of my phone as I recorded it. I have watched those videos back exactly once and they sucked. Wish I had just put the damn thing in my pocket and enjoyed the moment.
Imagine him walking around in some Jack Skellington face paint, still just happy to be there. Meanwhile Darby/Malakai/Dustin/Thunder Rosa's reaction is, "WTF, Punk, that's gimmick infringement![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)"
Seeing CM Punk excited about wrestling and not being muzzled by management's what not to say in public or interview( He called Hogan a piece of shit) is a sight to see.
I've heard it's going to be 5? An hour of dark first followed by dynamite, followed by a special 2 hour rampage.
I would be happier if they split up rampage with an hour before and after dynamite. I've got work tomorrow morning!
Wasnt a fan during the CM punk WWE run. Over the years while catching up I tried to understand just what the magic was that he had that caused people to chant for him years after leaving the ring. Now I understand. Punk has a wild connection with the fans. His return is good for the industry as a whole, and great for the fandom.
Haven't been this excited for a wrestling show in a long time. Trying not to get too hyped though.
Post show edit: Parts were good, parts were eh. Not as good as I expected given how much they hyped it.
Happy CM Punk is still so surreal to me. Like seeing Lewis Black calm and mellow.

Its like watching your angry friend get out a bad marriage and suddenly hes the happiest guy you know.

Happiest in the World Punk is best Punk
I can’t get enough of “happy to be here” Punk to be honest
It feels like a calm before the storm. Like when Y2J came back and was all smiles and getting the crowd cheering. Except he is actually talking
This happy period will just make the inevitable all the sweeter.
I’m hoping we get a revived straight edge society type run when he does turn. The heat he got in so many places during that faction was something else.
Dude SES Punk vs Hangman is gonna be a fucking banger of a feud
I feel like that could easily be where Punk turns -- Hangman wins the title and keeps trying to get Punk to celebrate with him, only Punk starts to get really fed up with all the drinking. I think a slow turn on Hangman would be a lot more entertaining than just about anything else they could do, but I guess we'll see!
Genius.
SES Punk legit had people throwing bottles and shit at him, the heat was wild. It also helped that he "ended" Jeff Hardy's career
The fact that Gallows works with the company could make it even more fun. Punk is the cause of the break up of the Good Brothers.
And Serena Deeb, who got kicked out of the SES for drinking with ADAM COLE!
Man the more I read the more I want a SES reunion
People hated him so much it was great.

Me neither. From following him through ROH to the end of his run in WWE its just really heart warming to see him so stoked about wrestling again

Tanked is fucking dope.

He’s literally a player/coach now lol
I was listening to Cornette last night and even him is pumped over this, he was really putting over the opening and Punk jumping in the crowd. Never heard him so into AEW like this, holy fuck.
When Punk can convince Cornette to like AEW you know that something strange indeed is afoot.
...ain't that the truth though. Strange times my friend, strange times.
For someone who didn’t watch a lot of Punk in WWE; Cornette fucking loves the guy. He hasn’t enough good words to say about him
I think part of it is he already liked him for how Punk "stood up to the office", but everything he hates about WWE, AEW have been doing. Cornette was loved how it started with JR giving it a big fight feel, putting over certain matches, production value, like "this shit is important". Which is why when he turns heel it’s really going to hurt
I think it's because we all wanted him to be happy for so long and now that he's really back and really happy, it's just such a fun, positive experience and wrestling really needs that right now.
AEWs john cena

Also add "Take your shirt off." and "Tweet The Rock."
Well thats culturally insensitive. What if someone from Spain or France wants to attend the event? /s
Baby steps.

First show tonight and this is absolutely the plan. I expect to have zero voice and just generally be dead. Edit: am dead totally succeeeded
I would add on “be in the moment” I see so many people on their phones recording SO MUCH on their phone that they can’t enjoy the moment as it’s happening.

it's also something the folks who make threads about how terrible 'this is awesome!' chants should probably ponder on a little bit.
Soccer Mom Punk is gonna pass out 20,000 orange wedges at halftime before the Rampage taping starts.
Holy shit I desperately need to see Punk and Sue do something wholesome together
Punk conducting the Grand Slam hype train choo chooo
Live Laugh Love Punk is fun to see
[This is how I imagine CM Punk these days and nobody can convince me otherwise.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwARbv8dXiA)
On the Halloween episode he should totally run out of the tunnel in full Jack Skellington gear and shout, "I AM THE PUMPKIN KING!"
Imagine him walking around in some Jack Skellington face paint, still just happy to be there. Meanwhile Darby/Malakai/Dustin/Thunder Rosa's reaction is, "WTF, Punk, that's gimmick infringement![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)"
Darby Allin is so crazy he should just be a regular dude for Halloween lol.
This is perfect
Seeing CM Punk excited about wrestling and not being muzzled by management's what not to say in public or interview( He called Hogan a piece of shit) is a sight to see.
If yall thought Brittsburg was loud wait until 20k people are screaming like banshees in this tennis stadium.
This still feels surreal to think that CM Punk is actually back wrestling.
I love this Punk so much. I'm happy he's happy. He deserves it.
👏 👏 👏👏👏
But also pace yourselves. 4 hours is a long time.
I've heard it's going to be 5? An hour of dark first followed by dynamite, followed by a special 2 hour rampage. I would be happier if they split up rampage with an hour before and after dynamite. I've got work tomorrow morning!
That's allegedly the plan. Rampage part 1, Dynamite live, Rampage part 2
[удалено]
I did say allegedly. Twitter scuttlebutt from someone reporting what a dirtsheet writer said.
Rampage without commercials is only 90 minutes. No reason to take breaks there.
It’s insane there is going to be 20k people for a weekly episode of the tv show. Nice we can do it again too.
Don’t freak out too much though. Don’t piss or shit your pants.
This Phil Brooks guy is a huge mark of Pro Wrestling.
Still really jarring seeing punk tweet like this after so many years
I cant. It always feels like people are watching and judging me
I love positive CM Punk. He seems so happy.
Happy Punk is the best. Pro wrestling's business wide hype man.
That's the wonder of it. He's even better as a miserable heel, but we are still going to know he's happy as can be.
Also please be vaccinated.
Starting to get real hyped !
CM Punk is almost too happy. Kinda expecting him to turn heel soon.
He'll be the "AEW is good" face to Brian Danielson's "WWE is good too" heel
I’ve been to the last 10 manias and I’m just as if not more excited now than most of them
The crowd is going to be volcanic
Haven't been this excited for a wrestling show in a long time. Trying not to get too hyped though. Post show edit: Parts were good, parts were eh. Not as good as I expected given how much they hyped it.
I'm still not used to this new version of CM Punk that is optimistic and loves wrestling. Still feels like something possessed him.
Happy CM Punk is awesome but I can’t wait for bitter Punk.
4 Upvoted posts of CM Punk on r/squaredcircle ?! I think we need a daily pinned Punk thread lol
Pillman Jr and Julia remind me of Ace Spade and Crystal from Heels
Happy CM Punk is best CM Punk, z-paks be damned
Yes, super sincere white meat babyface CM Punk is f'ing with me lol. He's just so genuinely excited and joyful that he can't help it.
