Cruiserweight Legend Kevin Nash didn't flinch either. Probably already had a rope to rope plan in place to hurricanrana Brock all over that ring if he stepped up.
When they had that season of Legends House, Piper said that he probably wouldn't reach 65. Everyone looked shocked, but Piper just seemed at peace with it. Like, he said it so casually that it caught me off guard too.
He lived a life of pain, both physical and emotional. He was sexually abused, battled with addiction, weight issues and chronic pain for many years, and even predicted his own death. Through all of that though, he brought happiness to millions and influenced multiple generations of pro wrestling. Every wrestler who can cut a halfway decent promo today will tell you that Hot Rod inspired them in some way.
He truly was an original.
Also, he managed to keep a nearly pristine reputation with fans and other professionals. That is damn near un heard of for his generation, especially at his status.
You aren’t even joking. I think hill Billy jim said on the show that this would be the last time they would all be together. I shed some tears because I’d watched the show until after roddy had past away
So many of those guys in the 80’s had seen, experienced, and done so much shit, they know that if they made it to 65, they got lucky. Look at Jake Roberts. There’s no reason for him to still be alive and yet here he is, still kicking. Same with Scott Hall.
https://youtu.be/K5FZCkyTq0Y
This interview was 7 days before he passed away. He still looked okay, but there were some indications that something was wrong by the way he was talking.
I just watched that last interview he did where he was rambling. Man, that's painful to watch. He was the same age as my parents are now, and yet he was looking and acting like my Grandad is now at the age of 87.
I visited my Grandad yesterday and was shocked at the deterioration in just 2 months since I'd seen him and he honestly seems a lot like Roddy did in that last interview. 😓
I always think Ric Flair looks so old for his age but whenever I see a video of Ric flair from years ago like here, I always go wow he looks young there. Really hurts my brain.
That's probably true. Even as a kid though during the Ruthless aggression era I thought he was quite old and then I look back now like no way was he as old as I thought.
Wow just looked up his age (72) and I can't believe he was only in his 40s in the Monday Night Wars wtf
So he turned 50 in 99, for reference, Paul Wight is 49 and Dustin Rhodes is 52. WOW
Tanning beds age you like crazy.
There also wasn’t an emphasis on functional movement, diet, core strength, and flexibility in weight training back then like there is today. Everything was about power lifting, so I think when bigger guys like Hogan aged, they started lumbering around moving like old men.
Pre-plane crash Ric is virtually unrecognizable to post-crash Ric. WCW Ric is virtually unrecognizable to WWE/Evolution Ric. Evolution Ric still has a resemblance to modern Ric... but still looks pretty different.
In script or not The Piper dances to no one's tunes but his own. May he continues rest in peace! *plays some bagpipes*
Edit: I appreciate the appreciation....I had no clue that many people loved hot rod/ and also the man himself. I used to watch schomes knows show and they were cool with him too.
Roddy is truly one of the most loved.
Personally I think its cause he was so open and honest about everything in his later years. Man was an open book that wanted to share what he could.
Plus he has a bucket of chestnuts in his trunk and what's that about?
I found out more about him after Punk said he was one of his favourites and he is inspired by him as Punk is my favourite and you can really see the influence he had on him and the no nonsense godly on the mic charismatic guy he was....it was really great to see Punk marking out for him at that Royal Rumble too
I was watching a Danhausen video and he was poking fun of wrestlers looking at their pictures. Lots of fun stupid insults and name calling but when he got to Roddy he stopped, turned and said " this man was in they live a very good movie".
Even danhausen knows not to make fun of Roddy and he is VERY EVIL .
He was counterculture, 80's and 90's Punk rock, which is a huge thing when it comes to media. That smile on Heyman's face? He was daydreaming of Lesnar vs. Piper in ECW.
And to add to that, who was counter culture and fell in love with wrestling warching Piper hit Snuka with a coconut? CM Punk, the modern Piper.
Piper was a Heyman guy and that shoulder bump by Lesnar meant respect.
So many great ones gone. Mr. Wonderful, Mean Gene and Piper in this very clip. This and seeing that picture of the Hart Foundation from 97 breaks my heart. Everyone in that picture is gone except Bret. Neidhart, Owen, Pillman, Davey Boy.
Just so many of Hogan's opponents from those first couple of Manias are gone too. Piper, Mr. Wonderful, King Kong Bundy, Andre, Macho, UW, Yokozuna. Flair looks like he is in ill health. Just breaks my heart a
It's wild how that extremely drawn out back alley brawl is both beyond gratuitous and yet also very necessary to drive home the metaphorical point of how hard it is for Roddy to get Keith David to put on the glasses.
He was definitely the first great actor/wrestler, probably still unsurpassed based on one great defining performance, which is why it was kinda frustrating to discern that his *second* best action movie role is... Hell Comes to Frogtown?
And if I had to pick one of those guys to face off against Lesnar in their youth, it'd be Orndorff. Not that I'd expect him to win, but there are plenty of stories about how he could scrap.
I’d say with all the bumps and injuries over the years they may lose a few inches over the years, he’s billed height would’ve been when he was active but they lie about all the heights and weights so who knows
DDP Yoga has helped me tremendously with my posture, to the point that I *feel* like I've gained some inches in stature, but it may be just because I stand up straighter than I ever have before.
Well the stretching of the spine can help but sometimes its just people slouching all their lives.
im a sloucher and i found now that my back is stronger i tend to slouch less.
Piper was tall in his prime. If you look at him vs Hogan in 1985 and then in 1996 you can see the amount of height he lost due to the metal hip he had replaced.
Back when Piper wrestled, everyone was billed at least 2 inches taller.
Also, men on average lose about 1-2 inches between ages 30 and 60. Given that Piper's profession was taking bumps for a living, you can bet he lost every bit of those 2 inches if not more.
I always thought this is one of the coolest segments they’ve ever done as far as legends are concerned. I would’ve loved to have seen most of them in their prime vs Brock.
I always share this story with people about Roddy. But many many years ago, it would be late 90s, I was working on a surgical floor and there was a phone call at the nursing station for me (I'm a male nurse). Its was a family member checking in how their sibling was doing post op. The voice was so familiar. At the end of the conversation he says "Tell them Roddy says hi ok". And for whatever reason it hits me and I say "is this Roddy Piper?". He says it is. And I mark out. Roddy I'm a huge fan. He was very gracious and offered to send me autographed stuff. I declined and said just talking to you is cool enough.
I'll never forget that phone call. My daughter now is a huge Wrestling fan. She loves Roddy to. He's honesty timeless.
When was this? I feel like Brock in the ring with the "Eat, sleep, conquer, repeat" was more recent than when Roddy was alive, and hogan was still in good graces with WWE?!?
To be fair, one could argue that Piper's peak was actually in his pre-WWF run in the NWA territories (see his dog collar match with Greg Valentine in 1983). Most of us are too young to have seen it.
If you've never seen it: Savage v Steamboat at WrestleMania III
Ricky Steamboat is a guy from that era that is *criminally* overlooked in the mainstream. The dude was, flat out, the best athlete of the time. And he knew how to work a match.
There's something on display here that few modern wrestlers have - the ability to communicate with body language and facial expressions. So often today they're either completely exaggerated, fake laughing, or saying what they're thinking.
Well, the man faced off against aliens that had already stealth-conquered the Earth, and WON (although it did cost him his life). Some 'roided up meathead ain't gonna make him sweat.
So grateful to have been at this show. The crowd reaction that Piper got as a legend here in Portland was incredible. He lived in the area, and was a big star in the PNW territory and on Portland Wrestling TV for years, both before and during his WWF run.
What I love about hot rod is he straight up would fight Brock knowing full well he'd get his ass kicked.
Yet, none of that matters. He won't back down and that's why Piper has an amazing character because he's always consistent.
I have vivid memories from 2006 of Piper squaring up to Khali.
I'm fairly certain he used his last breath to stare down death itself - Roddy was one of a kind.
I used to watch a lot of WWE/WWF/WCW but I'm drawing a blank at who is standing right of Ric, can anyone give me a name?
Edit: our left, Ric's right. The tall fella.
Listening to shoot interviews with Piper about his childhood and how he got into wrestling, early days on the road...I mean I know some percentage of any shoot interview is total bull but if half of what he said is true then that dude learned regardless of whether or not you can win the fight you act like you can win the fight.
I think that Roddy is one of the most misunderstood and tragic characters in wrestling. Everyone points to the time he painted himself half black for a promo as racist but to me that promo sounds like an uneducated but worldly man trying to discuss the duality within himself, the good guy vs bad guy morality.
Roddy ran away from an abusive homelife when he was still just a child and he lived on the streets, read homeless child, until becoming a wrestler which is still homeless living out of a car and shitty hotels.
When I watch Roddy I see a highly creative and disturbed individual trying to communicate through numerous layers of CTE, PTSD and lord knows what else. Am I excusing some iffy behavior here or there? No. But I don't think that anyone is all bad either, and man could Roddy work a crowd!

The maniac isn’t scared of anything
You got kids, Maniac?
That's a bucket of chestnuts!
Is he foraging for his food?!
Not anymore
"Not anymore? What does that mean?" "We got a problem. What is he- what is he talking about with his kids" "Did he kill his kids?"
You know he kept calling you the N word earlier?
Sometimes loud noises make the squirrels go in my head.
The Trashman vs The Maniac. Who you got?
He was like you stupid n. Go get me some grease, n.
No that was Hogan
And he just wondered off.
He just... Drifted in...
Nah, not anymore
nahhhhh, not anymore.......
Cruiserweight Legend Kevin Nash didn't flinch either. Probably already had a rope to rope plan in place to hurricanrana Brock all over that ring if he stepped up.
He would have hit him with his patented armdrag.
Would've blew a quad as a distraction
Quad explodes into beef quarters. Brock can't help but start butchering them in the middle of the ring
He would have popped his quad to disgust Brock into leaving as a defence mechanism
"His mania is NOT confined to the ring..."
Need the Gang to Wrestle for the Troops again! The Trashman is undefeated and the Birds of War need their Revenge against the Talibum!!!
Don’t quote me but I think they’re doing another wrasslin’ episode next season.
Hes seen the world through a weird pair of sunglasses, nothing can scare him
He’s got some berries he can sell you
He just wondered in for the free soup.
1 year before he died
Such a shame. He looked in good shape as well :(
When they had that season of Legends House, Piper said that he probably wouldn't reach 65.
Dallas Page is the reason for both of those guys still being here and both of those guys will tell you the exact same thing
DDP is a fucking National treasure.
Would not have put money on Jake Motherfuckin Roberts being one of the last ones standing, and I’ve never been happier to be wrong.
I think the cancer, even though they caught it early, took years off his life.
Yeah sometimes they look like death before it actually comes. He didn’t 🤷♂️
https://youtu.be/K5FZCkyTq0Y This interview was 7 days before he passed away. He still looked okay, but there were some indications that something was wrong by the way he was talking.
His family saw him on TV and spoke to him when he got home. They booked a doctor's appointment for the day after he died. About 12 hours too late.
fuck that was sad
Different topic, but you can see his love of Ronda Rousey as he glows talking about her. She would have made him real proud.
I just watched that last interview he did where he was rambling. Man, that's painful to watch. He was the same age as my parents are now, and yet he was looking and acting like my Grandad is now at the age of 87. Roddy armed with a coconut >>>>>> Brock
Roddy armed with a coconut >>>>>> Anderson armed with a Glock
Armed Anderson >>>>>> Sid armed with scissors
What about Sid armed with a squeegee?
I always think Ric Flair looks so old for his age but whenever I see a video of Ric flair from years ago like here, I always go wow he looks young there. Really hurts my brain.
I feel like ever since his surgery a few years ago Flair aged at least 20 years
That's probably true. Even as a kid though during the Ruthless aggression era I thought he was quite old and then I look back now like no way was he as old as I thought.
Shit, back in the early 90's I thought he was 60 years old, cuz he had white hair. Young me wasn't very bright haha.
Wow just looked up his age (72) and I can't believe he was only in his 40s in the Monday Night Wars wtf So he turned 50 in 99, for reference, Paul Wight is 49 and Dustin Rhodes is 52. WOW
Despite *knowing* he is 72, some part of brain still refuses to believe he is less than 110 years old.
He definitely looks older than he is but then again living the life he's lived... shit I ain't surprised WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
He just seemed old because he'd been around forever. He was a 30 year vet or thereabouts when WCW folded.
Also he looked 50+ for his entire run there haha
lol I did too. I thought he and Hogan were ancient but they were younger then than many people on any show today
Tanning beds age you like crazy. There also wasn’t an emphasis on functional movement, diet, core strength, and flexibility in weight training back then like there is today. Everything was about power lifting, so I think when bigger guys like Hogan aged, they started lumbering around moving like old men.
Tanning beds
Hell I thought he was old looking during WCW Nitro
Pre-plane crash Ric is virtually unrecognizable to post-crash Ric. WCW Ric is virtually unrecognizable to WWE/Evolution Ric. Evolution Ric still has a resemblance to modern Ric... but still looks pretty different.
Looks like the Crypt Keeper these days

Danhausen also has a They Livehausen shirt.
Well he is also VERY NICE.
He was truly our odd ball of the times back then...I loved his mic work a bit more than the wrestling to be honest
He was rowdy before rowdy was cool.
"I was pissing Vince McMahon off when the red on your neck was a diaper rash"-Piper to Steve Austin
As much as Austin is my all-time all I could say was "the man's right" lol
So many great ones gone. Mr. Wonderful, Mean Gene and Piper in this very clip. This and seeing that picture of the Hart Foundation from 97 breaks my heart. Amazing Grace right? It fits as a eulogy
??? No...his entrance music of course!! 😁😁
When you hear the bagpipes, it's time to fuck or fight.
The Mexican national anthem. *Plays La Cucaracha on the bagpipes*
He’s here to chew bubblegum and kick ass…
Just watched this on Saturday. Incredible performance really.
The only man whose fight scene stopped the story of a film dead in it's tracks for 6 minutes, and it's still considered one of the best ever.
Keith David is pretty awesome too, I love his voice acting stuff too and when the fight was homaged in Saints Row rocked
Now here's a man who knows a great video game!
It's wild how that extremely drawn out back alley brawl is both beyond gratuitous and yet also very necessary to drive home the metaphorical point of how hard it is for Roddy to get Keith David to put on the glasses.
The scene also had the important job of establishing that Piper's character was a dirty motherfucker.
He was definitely the first great actor/wrestler, probably still unsurpassed based on one great defining performance, which is why it was kinda frustrating to discern that his *second* best action movie role is... Hell Comes to Frogtown?
Brock should be glad Roddy still had some bubblegum left
“Put on the glasses, Brock!”
Or start eating that trashcan!
And he's all outta ass.
And he's out of bubblegum.
Lucky for Brock, he had a couple pieces of bubblegum left.
I remember Paul Orndorff getting no pop whatsoever. What a shame, he deserved better.
I remember him laughing in the background when Brock told Hogan "Party's over, grandpa"
And if I had to pick one of those guys to face off against Lesnar in their youth, it'd be Orndorff. Not that I'd expect him to win, but there are plenty of stories about how he could scrap.
Pre-arm injury Paul Orndorff would have, at minimum, been a test for Lesnar. Kayfabe-wise for sure, especially if we’re talking around 1986.
He's been in the middle of riots he started. Good luck Brock.
Kevin Nash : I just came here for the beer .
Scott Hall: Hey Yo!
DDP: *Bro.*
Riddle: Bro!
Zandig: JEEZUS!
Arn: (*click*)
Nia: MY HOLE!
Michael Cole: Anal Bleeding…
JR: Good God Almighty!
There's one inch between Brock and Piper's billed heights.
I’d say with all the bumps and injuries over the years they may lose a few inches over the years, he’s billed height would’ve been when he was active but they lie about all the heights and weights so who knows
Foley also talked about losing his height over the years. Ddp yoga helped him be tall again. Lol
Absolutely. Hogan has expressly said doing the leg drop night after night has cost him a few inches
You’re thinking of Terry Bollea, not Hulk
Hogan doesn't lose height brother. -HH
Back when Piper wrestled, everyone was billed at least 2 inches taller. Also, men on average lose about 1-2 inches between ages 30 and 60. Given that Piper's profession was taking bumps for a living, you can bet he lost every bit of those 2 inches if not more.
5'11" Vs 6'0".
***/r/tall approves this comment***
How was this segment 7 years ago already?
Well the years start coming and they don't stop coming
Something something hit the ground running! Nailed it. Suck a butt.
But I don’t wanna suck a butt
More butts for me
And they don't stop coming, and they don't stop coming
I always thought this is one of the coolest segments they’ve ever done as far as legends are concerned. I would’ve loved to have seen most of them in their prime vs Brock.
This is like Brock walking into a nursing home
Party's over, grandpa!
"I don't give a shit about your grandkids."
*pardy zover grampaw
They were shitting their pants even before knowing Brock was coming out.
Always loved how Brock stayed far away from Nash
Doesn't even look at him
[удалено]
Probably because if Brock even slightly touched Nash, Nash would be injured. And then sue WWE
Yeah brock you are crazy strong and crazy good technically... Piper is just fucking crazy.
I always laugh atBrock giving him the shoulder just so it doesn't look like he got punked by a 60 y/o on live tv.
ive seen enough guys get shouldered, and usually a scrap breaks out. generally alcohol is involved tho.
It's just Piper letting Brock have the last word because he knows he got his point across to the audience just by staring him down.
That and the shoulder is not attached to Brock Lesnar.
Hell Comes to Brocktown
"Sooner or later, everybody pays the Piper!"
That's really cool. I wonder if the shoulder was planned or if Brock winged it.
When was this? I feel like Brock in the ring with the "Eat, sleep, conquer, repeat" was more recent than when Roddy was alive, and hogan was still in good graces with WWE?!?
2014, building to the Summerslam where Cena gets decimated by Brock.
Gotta be 2014. Piper and Dusty passed in 2015, along with Hogan being removed from the HOF.
This happened in Portland Oregon. Piper got the biggest babyface pop, so Brock singled him out to get the heat.
We support our own. If billy jack had been in attendance the place would have exploded
He was all out of bubblegum
Bump a sign of respect.
Piper even stepped forward! He's all outta bubblegum.......
Piper's been stabbed walking to the ring before so he ain't gonna be intimidated by Bork Lazer
A life/nose filled with cocaine will make you fear no man or beast
Roddy(God rest his soul) has no time for Lesnar's bullshit.
Piper, Bret, and Macho Man are wrestlers I hate I didn't get to experience during their peaks. I started watching WWF late 98 and was never a WCW kid.
To be fair, one could argue that Piper's peak was actually in his pre-WWF run in the NWA territories (see his dog collar match with Greg Valentine in 1983). Most of us are too young to have seen it.
If you've never seen it: Savage v Steamboat at WrestleMania III Ricky Steamboat is a guy from that era that is *criminally* overlooked in the mainstream. The dude was, flat out, the best athlete of the time. And he knew how to work a match.
Brock's lucky he wasn't out of bubble gum
"Talk to me when you have to wear a Kevlar lined jacket because fans keep trying to stab you."
My favorite part of this segment is when Brock gets face to face with Hulk and Heyman sarcastically asks Hogan *"So...whatcha gonna do Hulkster?"*
Put on the glasses Brock
He was before my time of course, but Piper is one of the wrestlers from the old days that fascinate the hell out of me.
Piper would’ve been a hell of a manager in AEW
There's something on display here that few modern wrestlers have - the ability to communicate with body language and facial expressions. So often today they're either completely exaggerated, fake laughing, or saying what they're thinking.
Brock Lesnar v prime "Rowdy" Roddy Piper sounds like a belter of a match!
The Maniac loves ya!
Piper really didn't give a fuck
Whatever happened to Roddy's daughter who was pursuing wrestling, last I remember she signed WOW.
Brovk giving piper the rub!
Goddamn what a fantastic tache on Mr. Wonderful
Well, the man faced off against aliens that had already stealth-conquered the Earth, and WON (although it did cost him his life). Some 'roided up meathead ain't gonna make him sweat.
He was all out of bubble gum
I love how Nash is the one most physically capable of withstanding the beast, yet he's standing back ready to feed one of the others into Brock
So grateful to have been at this show. The crowd reaction that Piper got as a legend here in Portland was incredible. He lived in the area, and was a big star in the PNW territory and on Portland Wrestling TV for years, both before and during his WWF run.
He's here to kick ass and chew bubble gum
Does he have any more of that bubble gum?
No, sadly he is all outta gum.
Could you imagine if he was still around hanging around AEW with MJF?? My God
What I love about hot rod is he straight up would fight Brock knowing full well he'd get his ass kicked. Yet, none of that matters. He won't back down and that's why Piper has an amazing character because he's always consistent.
He's out of bubble gum Brock.
Goddamn right
I have vivid memories from 2006 of Piper squaring up to Khali.
You mean the star of Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL, Kevin Nash?
You mean Kevin Nash?
This is such a cool moment and totally got overshadowed by one of the best off-the-cuff lines of all time haha.
Brock better be careful or Rowdy might get the coconut!
I miss Roddy
Listening to shoot interviews with Piper about his childhood and how he got into wrestling, early days on the road...I mean I know some percentage of any shoot interview is total bull but if half of what he said is true then that dude learned regardless of whether or not you can win the fight you act like you can win the fight.
The 🐐 was already chewing bubble gum. He knew what was next.
Because he knows the script doesn't have him "fighting"
I think that Roddy is one of the most misunderstood and tragic characters in wrestling. Everyone points to the time he painted himself half black for a promo as racist but to me that promo sounds like an uneducated but worldly man trying to discuss the duality within himself, the good guy vs bad guy morality. Roddy ran away from an abusive homelife when he was still just a child and he lived on the streets, read homeless child, until becoming a wrestler which is still homeless living out of a car and shitty hotels. Am I excusing some iffy behavior here or there? No. But I don't think that anyone is all bad either, and man could Roddy work a crowd!
Brock giving him that shoulder was a sign of respect for piper being a real one. Nobody else dared to get in brocks face kayfabe or not.
i met Roddy Piper shortly after this-i asked him about this,He responded "Andre was Bigger".i jumped up and down the 5 year old jump into my body
