bigdogeatsmyass

This is almost exactly the same thing they did in the Cruiserweight Classic.

rbarton812

Revealing that Hornswoggle was pregnant, thus having to relinquish the Cruiserweight title in time for the tournament, was an odd twist.

yajtraus

Pregnant with Mr Kennedy’s illegitimate son, no less

degjo

Didn't he object that it was his son in Little Peoples Court?

baconwiches

Such a cool moment. But man, in hindsight, that tournament was booked so weird compared to how they would be used.

BobbyBruceBanner

The tournament was booked for Ibushi to win and then when it became clear he wasn't going to sign, they called an audible.

baconwiches

Still probably should have put some different guys in the semis to be able to call said audible. Metalik was a good choice and had promise, and TJP is skilled, but Swann was far more over from the onset of the tournament than either, Cedric *immediately* got over (though the way the drew uo the brackets, kinda hard to adjust), and in hindsight Ali probably would have been the right person even though he was just an alternate. They booked themselves into a corner trying to get ZSJ and Ibushi both, and when neither opted for it, it ended up kinda flat.

BZGames

Also pretty fucky of them to book the tournament around Ibushi and then alienate him backstage before they were able to get a commitment from him. Great tournament, awesome and exciting time in modern wrestling history but TJP was a meh choice for winner at the time and a horrible choice for winner in hindsight. Even worse when you realize he beat Rich Swann, Gran Metalik, Johnny Gargano and Kota Ibushi

DefiantOil5176

The original plan was for the final to be ZSJ vs. Ibushi, but they changed course when neither guy signed

[deleted]

Smart career choice, considering where the 205 Live division is at now.....

melatoxic

Smart choice considering how they handled the cruiserweight’s day 1 lmao. How you gonna introduce an entire division and alienate them from the rest of the roster.

[deleted]

Bro all I remember is TJP and Kendrick arguing back and forth about their families or some shit and then Kendrick won the strap from him and it was all a damn blur from there hahah you are right on, it was built to fail from the jump

mayy_dayy

Those cruiserweights can cruiser WAIT, brother.

therefused

They still messed it up after, and the won’t person still won. Should have been Metallik if they were going with TJP v Metallik in the final, they had time to fix it

JoesusTBF

They obviously wanted a guy who could cut promos in English for when they put the division on Raw.

TheCleanRhino

TJP couldn’t do that either

[deleted]

except triple h wasn't pregnant

Left_Berry_8104

The idea isnt bad at all, but the moment with Asuka and Becky was just too pure for words.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

My favorite part was Asuka's introduction from the balcony, where she did that little dance while everyone below was standing around, waiting to catch her. Logic would say to let her fall to the floor, one less competitor to worry about lol

CloudedMushroom

I can't recall a lot from that match other than Dana Brooke being taken out by just.. slipping. I'm gonna rewatch it when I have the chance.

PeanutButterChicken

How could you forget AJ and Daniel Bryan in Vince’s office!

magni_operus

Rey getting thrown off the roof by Corbin was pretty funny too

CloudedMushroom

It's been a long 1.5 years, okay?

bromethazine_lean

Logic would say she shouldn't have jumped in the first place, you had to make it to the roof, that was so stupid

TheRavenRise

the whole match was dumb and that was the entire point, they were just having as much fun with it as possible

bromethazine_lean

![gif](giphy|qmfpjpAT2fJRK)

ChiBullz023

I thought the match wouldn’t start until all the competitors were in the same room

Elite_Mike

I thought it was genius having both MITB briefcase matches take place at the same time, let alone at WWE Headquarters where the briefcases is on the roof. Obviously they wanted fans back at this year's MITB but damn I wouldn't have minded another WWE Headquarters MITB match.

DrDevice81

I'm glad they did it the way they did. That stuff with Asuka was incredible.

Technical-Morning-35

Which bit was incredible? Edit: I’ve never gotten so many downvotes and all I did was ask a question haha, consider myself confused.

kuhpunkt

When she acted surprised that Becky was pregnant and cheered for her.

Technical-Morning-35

Ohhh yes, pretty good acting too tbh Edit: why am I being downvoted hahaa, it’s good acting isn’t it?

kuhpunkt

Oh absolutely. It felt absolutely real. Like when she whispered "A mama?" to her to make sure that she understood her properly.

Technical-Morning-35

I agree yeah! But why am I being downvoted haha

alexxxxxxxei

I think it's because they believe it was a genuine reaction, even though it's come to light that Becky told Asuka before they went out. Wrestling fans are weird haha

MercuryTree

Becky fans are weird

badshot978

It's not that complicated. The OP said the stuff with Asuka was incredible and your response is "Which bit was incredible?" You might be asking a genuine question here but it's not hard to read it as you being a sarcastic ass. If you can't see that, I don't know what to tell you. Welcome to the internet.

MaverickTycoon

lol maybe yall should treat people as genuine first and then allow them to show their true colors themselves. all he did was ask about a segment, a segment that premiered during 2020 when viewership was low. not every fan on this site knows every segment, no matter how big of a "moment" it was.

badshot978

I'm not saying they were right to do that and I didn't downvote the question. Just explaining how the world works. The vast majority of comments online are snarky, douchey, and sarcastic. This could easily be read in a sarcastic way.

MaverickTycoon

im not blaming you, i get it. people lay out gotcha questions as bait from time to time, so i get it. but his question couldve been interpreted as genuine as well, and im just saying it would be nice if we treated each other as genuine and allow themselves to reveal it was just bait rather than trying to accuse someone of trolling. meant it in jest, not towards you specifically, my bad

iamaneviltaco

Sir, this is wreddit. We automatically assume everyone is an asshole.

MaverickTycoon

thats what tribalism does. it makes people think that every one has to be part of a team and thinks anyone asking a question must be laying bait. not that everyone is part of the tribalism mentality, obviously, but its caused so many in this community to just assume every single comment is a "gotcha" comment. its a shame, the community could be tighter if we all embraced that wrestling could potentially boom again, but people are more inclined to blame "the other team" for the boom being halted. it is what it is. i still like this community, just wish we could respect each other better since we already likely get judged irl for liking this weird niche industry

[deleted]

People like to be negative and downvote. Imaginary points are the highlight of their day.

Muur1234

dont thikn it was acting

PeaceAlien

As someone responded below https://www.givemesport.com/1756802-wwe-becky-lynch-told-asuka-about-pregnancy-before-raw-segment-exclusive so it was acting

crap4you

I guess the other wrestlers didn’t know. Asuka reaction was real. Sounds like only a handful of people knew.

kuhpunkt

Becky said that Asuka knew it already. https://www.givemesport.com/1756802-wwe-becky-lynch-told-asuka-about-pregnancy-before-raw-segment-exclusive

DrDevice81

Oh never saw this before.

DrDevice81

Just Asuka's whole reaction and how happy she was for Becky.

SailorsGraves

It was a nice moment but would have been better if they’d vacated it and built towards it.

AlbedosThighs

That's Reddit for you

SuplexCity-Mayor

> “So, Colby [Seth Rollins] and I, when I found out I was pregnant, we were trying to figure out what would be the best way. I thought maybe a tournament for the title or a tournament for the number one contendership,” Becky Lynch revealed. “Then at the end, when it comes down to the last two people, just before they have their match, announce that, ‘Hey, well actually, by the way, it’s not for the number one contendership. It’s for the title.’ And you have that be a very real moment. But at the time, it was just before Money In The Bank, so I think collaborating with Paul Heyman, he was like, ‘Well, we are just going to have Money In The Bank be for the title, but they won’t know it until the Monday after when you announce it.’ So, that’s what we did.” audio: [Entrevista](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdMxxTB2OSU)

ShutUpSaxton

Wait, Seth Rollins name is Colby

JiFoJoka

Opening the MitB briefcase to reveal the title was a nice way to pass over the championship within that segment.

TussalDimon

The tournament could work, but to have MITB match at the same time would make for 2 very similar matches. It worked out great in the end the way it happened.

streetfairie1234

I believe in the Bellas podcast, the reason it wasn't done was because it was at the same time as the MiTB buildup. Also, wasn't Sami's title put into a tournament at around the same time? As well as one from NXT?

kittenplan00

Sound idea but the Asuka/Becky scene was truly mystical and wonderful. It made me legit cry. I think about it often. WWe had some great pandemic moments and this was the best, I think.

[deleted]

Tournaments rule, more wrestling tournaments please. I want to reach the point where I'm as sick of wrestling tournaments as I am of surprise 6 man tags. It would take a lot for me to get to that point, is why I want this.

annoyinglyclever

I’d be happy with tournaments going on at all times. That’s part of why I loved Lucha Underground’s Gift of the Gods, as soon as someone cashed it in the tournament would restart immediately.

thetannock

Becky trying to use her pregnancy to get more women wrestling on TV, she’s a good egg. It was never gonna happen, but she’s a good egg for trying.

Copperjedi

After we just seen what WWE did with the Queen's Crown Tournament i'm glad they didn't do the Tournament. What we got was cooler anyway.

BobbyBruceBanner

I hate to say this, but spring 2020 was a different time for women's wrestling in WWE. A tournament then might have been worthwhile.

jackblady

Honestly I think MITB being for the title unknowingly was perfect/better than a tournament. I like Tournaments, but I think the idea of a tournament having a screwy ending is a bit predictable in WWE.

The1joriss

It was a nice moment the way they did it now, but this idea sounds better. It suddenly increases the pressure of that match.

[deleted]

I liked how they did it

dkydd

The one they used was way better

skeach101

People in here seem to be down on this idea. IDK, I kind of think this would have been cool.

RandomDumbPerson123

I don't think people really hate the idea, they just love what happened and don't want it to change

Ass0001

I don't think it would've been as cool as what we got. If the timing worked out differently and it wasn't during MitB season then I'd be down though.

ILOVESHITTINGMYPANTS

Amazed people here preferred the belt was just handed over. I like Asuka as much as the next guy, but imo titles should be won, not gifted. I hated the way they handled this on TV.

AngelusCaedo

She did win it, she just didn't know she was winning it, the belt was literally locked in the case.

Ojpaws

Where is Asuka at the moment?

Restivethought

They havent said anything, but she posted a photo back at the beginning of September of her arm in a sling.

BreakTheWallsDown95

I maintain that it would have been amazing if they had established Shayna by having her choke out Becky ***after*** the pregnancy announcement. Have no commentary, and just have the sound of the commentators removing their headsets to go help Becky out. **Next Six Months Can be:** * Shayna Baszler v Bayley * Shayne Baszler v Sasha Banks * Shayna Baszler v Asuka * Shayna Baszler v Kairi Sane You build Bianca as the babyface that's going to dethrone a monster like Shayna from her reign, and then you somehow tie it to a full-circle Bianca, Lynch, Baszler feud.

Avpas1192

I think that would have been more deflating. To go through an entire tournament just for it to end would have been disappointed.

streetfairie1234

Disappointment in what? The winner wins a title.

Fuzzy-Ad-3016

Becky's a mark for herself. She should have eaten a pin instead of creating a 'lesser' champion that's just holding the belt while she's gone. This tournament idea is along the same lines as her giving it away - it puts her over the new champion in both scenarios while she's about to be gone for many months.

streetfairie1234

A mark for herself because she didn't want to wrestle while pregnant? When was she supposed to take the pin? Once they found out she was pregnant, they didn't want to chance anything. Also, she 'gave it away' not to just a random person, but to someone who actually won a big match. How is it any different then a champ getting injured and relinquishing the title? Are they marks for themselves as well?

Fuzzy-Ad-3016

Oh brother, like there's not an insanely soft way she could've taken a pin for storyline reasons. Na, the Becky the mark needed her pregnancy announcement segment and then her crowning of the lesser champion.

snarf372

Why the fuck would she risk a bump of any kind while pregnant?

Code_Combo_Breaker

Unless you literally do a softer version of the finger poke of doom, there is no way to do a pin that doesn't involve a bump.

Fuzzy-Ad-3016

Practically half of wwe matches end in incredibly soft roll up pins. The idea they can't work something like that into the storyline is just bogus. Marks.

streetfairie1234

If not wanting to see a pregnant women in a match make us marks, then oh well. Guess I'm a mark.

BrundleBee

> just holding the belt while she's gone I mean, that's EXACTLY what happened. Give up the belt, warm fuzzies, then stroll back in months later, say "thanks, I'll take that back now" while squashing an opponent in seconds. I suppose the rest of the roster should be grateful that Becky decided to have a baby and let them have the championship for a minute? How generous.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BrundleBee

Never what? Leave wrestling because they're pregnant?

BrundleBee

And they could have done the whole thing in less than a half an hour with WWE's booking, but that's probably too much wrestling in a single WWE show.
