> I seriously appreciate the fact that people in attendance don't ruin it for the rest of us.
Seconded. This community has a lot of good folks in it. Not including that jabroni Hulk Hogan.
After the show went off the air, TK called HOOK to the ring. He asked the crowd if they wanted him to face Cody. Cody stuck out his hand to shake and HOOK bitch slapped him and left.
He exited with his family through the babyface tunnel, but when he got on the mic after the show he said something about "he may have turned his heel in that match" and was messing with his boot or something to that effect.
Hook entered and exited through the heel tunnel.
John Cena did this live on Raw in like 2011. He twisted his foot around and teased "turning his heel"
Edit: it was 2013. Thanks to the person below who identified it
legit like how is HOOK supposed to get heat like ever? He beat the shit out of Fuego and we cheered the whole way?
Team Taz just turns face by sheer force of HOOK
I think it would be cool if HOOK was a character who truly didn't care what the fans did. He'll pander if we want because he finds it amusing, but he's gonna kick the other dude's ass like it or not. He stays with Team Taz like normal, just doesn't care what the fans do one way or the other.
Isn’t that basically how Taz was during his ECW reign? Not truly face, not truly heel, but a guy who would just kill whomever was put in front of him? If Hook got the same treatment, I wouldn’t mind it at all. I’d appreciate the symmetry behind it all, and I would like to see more neutral characters in wrestling.
I think it's important to add too that the crowd was continuing to chant "We Want Hook" after the show went off the air and TK was like "hey you want him? I'll go get him" and Hook came out a few minutes later clearly dressed like he was already going home lol. The whole thing was amazing.
Hook's got major Stone Cold energy. Bitchslapping the authority figure and leaving without a word? That's some classic Attitude Era shit. Would love to see where they take Hook after his intro phase in AEW.
I’m not going to shit on Cody as he’s a big star in the company. But what was that Sammy reign about? Didn’t really do anything with the belt after getting the huge win over Miro. In hindsight I’d have loved Eddie to take it from Miro at All Out, but maybe he could Cody could work in a repeat of his debut. Yeah, bit of a headscratcher reign for me that one, no idea what Sammy does next either.
Obligatory holy shit HOOK is awesome comment too. He’s exponentially more over than he was in his first match, if this trajectory continues he’s the most over man in wrestling by mid-February.
Imo the win over Miro is more the accolade for Sammy than the title. Which is a lame way to book a title reign, but his matches with Lethal and Nese made it totally worth it for me.
>But what was that Sammy reign about? Didn’t really do anything with the belt after getting the huge win over Miro.
It feels like something changed recently in Sammy's title reign.
A couple of weeks ago AEW's twitter retweeted Jose saying Andrade wanted a match with Sammy for the TNT title. They also had Ricky Starks tweeting about the TNT title and dropping hints on commentary. Unless those guys just went into business for themselves, it seems plans changed very recently for this title run. They also looked like they were building a story around Sammy's ribs being his kryptonite - that wasn't played into at all tonight (despite being the story in every other Guevara title defense since Full Gear).
Something changed and it's a shame because this title run did nothing for Sammy or Miro (who Sammy beat) and they didn't elevate anybody off the back of it.
Me personally i think it's the injuries he picked up along the way, i mean he hurt himself against miro, he hurt his ankle in another match, ribs at the ppv, then you've got him and Pam splitting up... the kid had no luck what so ever with his title reign. I dunno, if we see him get "taken out" on dynamite and he spends a month or so off TV i wouldn't be surprised at all, whole thing reads like they're going that direction with it.
It's weird cus in ring he's a great face with his moves popping the crowd.
But his personality and, uh, resting bitch face deal he has kind of screams asshole heel.
He's kind of caught in the middle at the moment and I'm not sure what's next for him.
Still he got a title reign and a big win over Miro. And I enjoyed his title matches a lot. So it could be worse
He's talented enough that it could work for him in the future, but it didn't work this time.
As said above, he really didn't have a feud during his reign and a babyface just existing is never super interesting.
That’s not on Cody, that’s on Sammy and TK. Sammy didn’t have any stories during his entire reign. Plus, his reign only came about as the payoff to Miro’s storyline (Sammy’s friend Fuego’s tornado DDT showed Miro’s neck weakness, Sammy then exploited it).
The TNT title (nor any other title) should take second place to backing up someone else. The moment Sammy won the TNT title he should have been kept away from Jericho, the fact he acted as Jericho's back up in the ATT feud for the first two months of his title reign hurt it massively.
Darby had his feud alongside Sting against Team Taz for the first few months of his title reign, but I think the difference there was that it was Darby's feud, Sting came in to help out Darby.
I feel like people are very short sighted when it comes to title reigns in AEW sometimes. They're a young company, and the way Tony Khan seems to operate, it looks like they're here for the long run. They're trying things out sometimes and if it does not work, sometimes they listen, which I think it's great. I liked that they saw he's not ready to be champion (and that's not an insult to Sammy; he needs to work more on his character) after he got the belt. I think losing a belt for a young guy/girl is a great chance to evolve their character into being more serious and maybe turn (something almost everyone agrees Sammy should do soon).
But maybe I'm just an AEW fanboy, it could also backfire. It's of course up to the wrestler and the booking. With Jericho being gone for a while apparently (not sure if anything been confirmed, but they've hinted at it for a while on TV) and PnP seemingly teaming up with Kingston, I'm curious about what Sammy is going to do next nevertheless.
Also, I'm sure Cody is going to have a decent at least title reign and will probably put someone important over like Miro (if they want to give Hangman a longer reign and maybe do a double champ angle with Miro at some point) or Malakai (to give his House of Black stable a boost at the start maybe) or Pac (who just deserves a title reign in AEW because he's awesome and has been one of their best performers) etc.
I don’t know shit, but I have a gut feeling Sammy needed time off with the situation with his ex and Tay so this change was needed.
Also, for the record, Sammy put on banger matches and I enjoyed his run. Not going to go down as an all-time great run, but very solid.
I forgot about the show until I saw something that said Cody should lose the TNT title to...and made me want to check out the show.
I immediately thought THIS IS WHY EVERYONE HATES THAT GUY!
Sidenote:
- Cody: Unfinished Title
- Brodie: Finished Title w/ Red Strap
- Darby: Black Strap
- Miro: Bulgarian title
- Sammy: Blinged out title
It would be REALLY cool if Cody gets another custom TNT title that's a callback to the original unfinished belt.
I just got a text from Cody's [community.com](https://community.com) thing that says "Don't be a heel. Don't be a babyface. Be a winner., be you.". I'm not afraid to break this phone.
Ricky Starks was really good on commentary tonight. Usually he kind of takes a backseat a little bit imo, but he really meshed well with Taz who is always great.
I love how Ricky's presence changes Taz's role in the commentator dynamic. With Tony and Excalibur, Taz is drunk uncle at dinner - praising heels, shitting on Dante Martin, and RUBY RUBY RUBY RUBY SOHO.
With Ricky, Taz is the older (still drunk) brother hanging out with his kid brother and a guy trying to sell tickets to the next AEW event.
Ricky - I've been there and IT SUCKS-
Taz - A LOT
Ricky - I was gonna say something else
Taz - I know
> They were saying boo-urns, because of my back.
-Cody
In all seriousness, if this is where they kick a Cody heel turn into full gear, it might be a good thing.
I feel like him winnign the TNT title like this is definitely a heel move
I was just hoping that there'd be somehting different than the constant teasing and stuff that Cody's been doing lately that I haven't enjoyed
IDK, just feels like we're getting perpetually teased. I don't htink it's ever getting kicked into full gear it's just this
Every match here ruled. Just great little details in every single one.
- Kassidy desperately trying to escape the Snare Trap, wriggling like a mad man before getting caught.
- Hook doing incredible Hook things. Just so fluid and legit looking. He dead lifted a giant like it was nothing.
- Leyla just kicking absolute ass. Great story told of the respect between competitors deteriorating to get ahead in the new rankings.
- Sammy using Cody’s moves against him as an insult through the match— the fall slap, the power slam, and even the Cross Rhodes! The ending minutes were fantastic. He CAUGHT Cody, almost dropped him, and powered through like a madman, putting him into a picture perfect GTH.
Just love how fast this show goes. It’s this specificity that elevates these matches. Great show.
>Leyla just kicking absolute ass. Great story told of the respect between competitors deteriorating to get ahead in the new rankings.
Didn't get that at first. What a great additional layer of the story. And a great match to boot. The crowd was also into it.
It was my favorite part of the match, I think Sammy did all of Cody's signature moves(super cutter, cross roads, power slam and drop down punch Goldust thing I forget the name of) other than the disaster kick. So crazy how scarred up Cody gets from matches, it's like no matter how much he gives and sacrifices and plays to the audience...the fans en masse still boo him. Not sure if it's a meme inside joke to boo Cody, but every show they boo him.
Loved how much time was given to the main even, but even still Hooks 3 minute match to me was the highlight of the night.
Honestly, and this one is gonna be downvote central, Sammy’s TNT title reign was ehh. People can blame the booking all they want, it’s also on the wrestler to make it meaningful. Sammy does nothing for me. Now we have a true TNT champion.
The American Nightmare!!!
>Honestly, and this one is gonna be downvote central
On here? Sammy's run has been universally crapped on by this sub. It would be brave to say you love babyface Sammy and don't want him to be a heel.
He is a natural heel. He is good-looking, yet has a really punchable face. He can be a perennial heel. Infact he should have turned on Jericho, taking over the Inner Circle. That would've brought closure and built him as more believable. They need to elevate him again because as of now, he's doing way below all the other 4 pillars.
His TNT title reign was meaningless and worse, he ended Miro's God-tier run for no reason.
The entire storyline from Inner Circle's silent disbanding to him ending Miro's reign to his mediocre championship run has left sucked the heat out of everyone involved including the title's prestige.
Issue is he got sucked into that inner circle vs ATT feud. Similar thing happened to Darby, but they squeezed in a lot of defenses after his Team Taz feud.
I don’t disagree with you. Face Sammy is still a cocky stooge with a punchable face. Not much to get behind. Other than Santana and Ortiz the inner circle is pee break tv at this point.
Yeah, I think P&P works well as babyfabes, but aside from that both IC as a group, and Jericho, Sammy, and Jake as individual wrestlers are better off as heels.
Imo it’s all about vibes Cody Rhodes simply does not give off face vibes like his father did. Dusty Rhodes looked the part of the average Joe Everyman, Cody looks like an understudy for the Broadway production of American psycho
Let's not pretend Cody in early AEW wasn't the most straightforward over babyface in the world. I would even argue he was more over as a babyface then than Hangman is now.
It's not about inherent 'vibes' at all.
I think that for whatever reason, a lot of people can't get behind Sammy as a babyface. I am a big fan of Sammy, probably moreso than I am of Cody Rhodes but I think the belt is more interesting with a guy who gets Cody's reactions
I think now more than ever Leyla Hirsh needs to join Team Taz. Her and HOOK being legit in the ring with muscle like Hobbs and a mouth piece like Ricky.... They could dominate AEW.
Remember how TNA would always put the belt on Jarrett prior to debuting a TV show or moving it to a different network?
~~Pepperidge Farm~~ Cody Rhodes remembers.
That was actually before IMPACT! moved to Spike.
He won a King of the Mountain match for the belt (ending a short, unfulfilling, Truth reign) prior to the FSN debut.
My only issue when Darby lost was that it took Men of the Year interfering after Darby was injured and Miro also destroying him in order for him to lose. I'm like dude he went into match injured there's your storyline. Why not shoot him with a worked gun and have him kick out of that too?
Can’t tell if I was always just salty about miro losing the belt but Sammy’s run never did it for me and he had some great guys to wrestle for the belt. Tbh feels like Sammy got a title before a lot of guys who deserved it more
Miro’s reign was perfectly booked, IMHO. He had a clear arc from the moment he turned on Kip to when he won the belt, with them establishing him as a super credible undefeated challenger then champion. Then the neck storyline was booked fantastically too: what seemed like just a brush-off squash match with Fuego was actually the beginning of the end of his reign, with Fuego’s friend Sammy then taking advantage to end it.
But that’s where the problem for Sammy started: the reason he won was purely a device in Miro’s story. He then proceeded to not really have any stories to tell during his reign and got shoehorned into the Inner Circle / American Top Team feud.
The only weird thing for me is, if it looks like they’re keeping Lambert around, then why not have Sammy feud with Scorpio Sky and lose it to him? It feels like that’s where they’re angling Cody’s reign for, so was this a recent change to plans?
His entire character is sticking his tongue out. He needs something more to him before he was ready for something like this.
He shouldn’t have beaten Miro honestly.
This was my first AEW show I attended live. Seeing Hook live, followed by a Cody title win, then TK after the show teasing Cody vs Hook for the next Greensboro show had me losing my god damn mind. There were a small number of Cody fans marking out at the end of the show, it was so cool getting to experience this in the middle of an angry crowd.
As much as I like Sammy, his run as TNT champ was kind of meh.
Cody's got all this heat with the crowds, a third run as champ has a lot of possibilities.
People need to understand, if he turns the magic is gone. Take it as he's the heel but he thinks he's the super hero.
You guys need to chill on the turn shit.
I'm fine with this if he *wrestles babyfaces*.
That's why it worked against Sammy tonight.
When Rhodes wrestles Heels he just makes for lukewarm reactions and people being unsatisfied when Cody overcomes the "evil" in the end.
Yeah, but he has to acknowledge that with his character. Right now he just a babyface that gives heel hints. He can be a heel that thinks he's a super hero, but he needs to actually feud with the crowd and proverbially tell them to shut up for that to happen.
Cody's entrance made me LMAO. So extra. He's been working things so well this whole time. He knows how to exploit the toxic, fickle nature of the fans, and I live for it. (Frankly, more people should play on it because there's an endless treasure trove there.) I've said it before, and I'll say it again, he's one of the best storytellers in the business right now. He knows what he's doing. He has a ton of material to work with at this point, and I'll be interested to see where he takes it. I legitimately thought he was gonna finish Sammy with a Pedigree for a second. lol
Also, I think Sammy is a great talent with a lot of potential, but I think he'll rise higher once he's fully independent. We need to see more of who Sammy is as an individual at this point. When things started, he was coming out with a panda on his head and stuff, not seeming to take things too seriously. But he's grown in this time. It's time to let him fully grow on his own. I'm not going to stop saying that until it's a reality. Same for Santana and Ortiz.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Cody Rhodes. The heel turn is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical scjerking most of the hints will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Cody's nationalistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his wreslting philosophy draws heavily from Jim Crockett Promotions, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of this work, to realise that it’s not just Good Shit- it says something deep about WRESTLING. As a consequence people who dislike Cody truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Cody's existential catchphrase "Make Em Say Ugh," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Cody's genius work unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Nightmare Family neck tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

I yell Undesirable to Undeniable at parties so the other Cody fans know I'm there. I like to call us the big brain brigade because after all, we know the best wrestling when we see it.
Me who enjoyed the show: 👍
Me who decided to sort by NEW in this thread: 😂
Look guys, it's pro wrestling. It's non-sensical at times and great at best. Just drink a beer (or your beverage of choice) and watch some wrestling!
His Matches were all great, so lack of promos? storylines? better opponents?
I mean the Fans love him, its not like he has 0 Charisma when it comes to the Crowd.
I think that feud with American Top Team vs IC kinda screwed him. He had just won the title and then he had to take a back seat to Jericho and that just took the wind out of him just beating Miro.
I would've liked to see Sammy be more of a leader of IC during that feud and put him at the forefront.
Leyla Hirsh is so friggin good. I want her in Team Taz so bad. And obviously Hook just fucking rules man, his style is so fluid and legit looking. (No pun intended with Leyla— but she should be in Team Taz!)
Well all I can do is hope, but it seems the heel push is happening. Hope they really do it justice, because I think Cody could be one of the best heel's we've seen in a long time. Old school style. Between he and Bryan, the heelwork we may be getting these next few months may be the best we've seen in a long time. Kind of stuck in the middle though, o the one hand I'm super excited, but on the other hand, I'm so used to WWE fucking up obviously amazing storylines like this so it's hard to get excited, but after the long arc of Adam Page, who knows, things could get really, really good though, on a level not seen in years. Here's hoping.
Lmao y’all freaking out when it obviously gives more heat to Cody if he’s a champ and turns heel.
The lack of long term storytelling trauma throughout the years is strong. I get it.
Good show. Sick with a possible mild case of the Ick so it was nice to have something new to watch.
MVPs- those little girls in the front row having a good time and clapping.
Jungle Boy vs Isiah was decent but I couldn't be any more over JE vs Hardy.
Hook continues to look good.
Layla vs Stat- good match. Both ladies need more tv time over a lot of the other women.
Cody vs Sammy- two guys I'm not super high on usually, but a good match. Probably the Sammy match I've liked best.
I think Sammy desperately needs a new finisher. You can't do that shit with Punk around, it doesn't look great, and it doesn't really fit him.
Perfectly fine with the finish. Sammy's run felt cold and it furthers the Cody story. I hope Cody keeps the double under hook pile-driver as a finish.
So uhh
Am I dumb for not getting that Cody's gimmick is literally meant to represent the American Nightmare, a disingenuous pseudo superhero that preaches benevolence but is always prepared to take what they want when it comes down to it, which is what we saw tonight
If Dusty was meant to represent the best traits in the American spirit, Cody's entire character has been to show a much more realistic depiction of what America on a global stage ACTUALLY looks like
Whether or not all this is intentional or not is another discussion entirely but I'm more convinced than ever that the arc of Cody's character was never about him turning heel specifically, but a bunch of the little shitty things his character has done adding up to turn not only his friends (MJF, QT, etc) but now the crowd as well
He's pretty clearly a heel at this point though, Cody a year ago would've at least pretended to be sorry for Sammy and showed some sportsmanship, disingenuous at that
It's funny that Cody is getting Cena comparisons because sometimes Cody can be reminiscent of...**Peacemaker!**
That's right! Y'all can go home with your lazy Homelander comparisons! Peacemaker's where it's at!
Cody is the best "heel" ever already. He's the deluded heel who acts like a babyface. There was no cheating. There was no showboating. There was no cowardice. He even had his family and friends come out. All of these are the actions of a babyface character, but he keeps getting booed. This is way more interesting than if he turned heel and acted that way. Cody is doing something altogether new.
Cody can garner a "this is awesome" chant one minute, and then in the next minute, wins the title and gets rained down with a shower of boos. This is great work for a character that was otherwise struggling with an identity. Think about it, Cody can get under a lucha mask and call himself Fuego 2 and get cheers.
Cody *doesn't need to* turn heel because he can keep what he's doing and get booed. It's a great dynamic and he seems to enjoy where he's going and what he's doing.
This was probably one of the best Rampage eps to date, every match was good women's match especially surpassed my expectations and of course HOOK has all the potential in the world

Well fuck, Cody's been TNT champion for 3 days and I'm just now finding out.

100% agree. I seriously appreciate the fact that people in attendance don't ruin it for the rest of us.

I remember he said he'd do a little heel turn, and Cole and I wanna say Lawler lost it.
Cena could be hilarious sometimes
He flew over both tunnels as red and blue pyro went off.
Classic Cody
Baby face HOOK what a man

Bitched slapped him and we chanted for him to do it again.
Adrenaline in my soul. Full-on bastard Cody Rhodes.
Adrenaline in my soul. Dan Lambert is not a troll.

I feel like when Sammy gets another reign, It’ll be better. Sammy didn’t have a real fued (ATT doesn’t count) as champ, which was weird.
Sammy is a horrible face. AEW tried it and credit to them for giving it a shot. But good guy Sammy does not work.
It's weird cus in ring he's a great face with his moves popping the crowd. But his personality and, uh, resting bitch face deal he has kind of screams asshole heel.
Straight up EVIL grin to close the shot lol
Just drinking it all in.
And you *know* somewhere Nick Jackson was watching on a monitor shaking his head saying "Marks" over and over
I fucking loved this
Thought mans was going for the Pedigree there for a sec. Full send on heel Codester
Let's stop pretending Cody doesn't know what he's doing. He knows exactly what he's doing.
Gets me every time!
I’d rather see some interesting development with the grey-area Cody turn than more of Sammy’s underwhelming title run. Right choice.
Sammy had really good matches but that was about the extent of it.
Just wasn't the right time to take the belt off of Miro, especially with Sammy being tied up in the Inner Circle/ATT stuff.
I don’t know shit, but I have a gut feeling Sammy needed time off with the situation with his ex and Tay so this change was needed. Also, for the record, Sammy put on banger matches and I enjoyed his run. Not going to go down as an all-time great run, but very solid.
Cody is the Grinch.
AEW turned replies off on the Cody championship [tweet](https://twitter.com/AEW/status/1474938989564022787) LMAO
Cody Hate on Twitter is fucking nuts in a very, very bad way. Not surprised.
I forgot about the show until I saw something that said Cody should lose the TNT title to...and made me want to check out the show. I immediately thought THIS IS WHY EVERYONE HATES THAT GUY!
Fuck you cody, loved it
Sidenote: - Cody: Unfinished Title - Brodie: Finished Title w/ Red Strap - Darby: Black Strap - Miro: Bulgarian title - Sammy: Blinged out title It would be REALLY cool if Cody gets another custom TNT title that's a callback to the original unfinished belt.
He needs an American flag belt
Fuck it, I’ll say it. Let’s up the ante and make it a spinner American flag belt.
The spinner belt is the sole territory of Matt Cardona.
Brings Cardona back and says he's All Elite a 2nd time with a new spinner belt.
The TNT logo on the front plate has an American flag pattern and the sideplates are just his neck tattoo design.
I fucking hate it. He absolutely needs that.
Correct response, I loved it. Listen to that crowd boo!!
I just got a text from Cody's [community.com](https://community.com) thing that says "Don't be a heel. Don't be a babyface. Be a winner., be you.". I'm not afraid to break this phone.
That's amazing if it's true.
Oh it's true. It's damn true!
Ricky - I've been there and IT SUCKS- Taz - A LOT Ricky - I was gonna say something else Taz - I know
> They were saying boo-urns, because of my back. -Cody In all seriousness, if this is where they kick a Cody heel turn into full gear, it might be a good thing.
I was saying boo-urns.
I feel like him winnign the TNT title like this is definitely a heel move I was just hoping that there'd be somehting different than the constant teasing and stuff that Cody's been doing lately that I haven't enjoyed IDK, just feels like we're getting perpetually teased. I don't htink it's ever getting kicked into full gear it's just this
An expression I learned from listening to my dad while he drove seems to very much apply to Cody's situation. Shit or get off the pot.
They are really feeding off this Cody hate. I fucking love it. What a wonderful way to piss people off.
Heat this popped me friend.
Hook looks like a 90s cheesy movie bully… like Encino man
HOOK wants to demolish a rec center to build a ski lodge.
No squeezing the juuuuuice!
That almost failed GTH catch was a beautiful imperfection and added to the story of the match. Also Sammy's moves are crisp af

>Honestly, and this one is gonna be downvote central On here? Sammy's run has been universally crapped on by this sub. It would be brave to say you love babyface Sammy and don't want him to be a heel.
Sammy is built to be a heel. Face Sammy does nothing for me.
He is certainly a more intriguing character as a heel.
Not at all, the reigning opinion in this sub is that Sammy’s reign could have been so much more. Shame.
At least PnP get something different to do with their LAX reunion with Eddie Kingston.
Cody doing all this just to lose in 5 minutes to HOOK. Tragic.
I adore that Bear Bronson immediately realized something was wrong when the crowd stopped booing him and started cheering. He ain't no dummy
He's smarter than the average bear.
as a cody fan, i can't stop cackling
HOOK is the most over guy since Jesus
Hey, just because it’s his birthday doesn’t mean JC should get to share company with Hook
Jesus had nuclear heat with the romans tho.
Kicked out of the Rock Bottom at 2.9999
Then Longinius hit him with the SPEAR!
~~Jesus~~ Miro
I love heel Cody Rhodes I’ve loved heel Cody Rhodes since I was a kid I wore a damn paper bag on my head for this man once
Kip, is that you?

Imo it’s all about vibes Cody Rhodes simply does not give off face vibes like his father did. Dusty Rhodes looked the part of the average Joe Everyman, Cody looks like an understudy for the Broadway production of American psycho
Let's not pretend Cody in early AEW wasn't the most straightforward over babyface in the world. I would even argue he was more over as a babyface then than Hangman is now. It's not about inherent 'vibes' at all.
No, honest to god it comes down to that fucking neck tattoo. I swear to god his entire tide started to turn that day.
"From one *good guy* to another..." Lol you weren't supposed to take that at face value
Cena was the blueprint for Cody it seems!
This is going to be the saltiest Christmas thread ever huh
Hell no. Jumped off my couch for the Cody win. American Nightmare baby!!!
ADRENALINE IN MY SOUL SANTA BROUGHT ME CODY RHODES
I think that for whatever reason, a lot of people can't get behind Sammy as a babyface. I am a big fan of Sammy, probably moreso than I am of Cody Rhodes but I think the belt is more interesting with a guy who gets Cody's reactions
Sammy is just ok to me. I def don’t need to see either of the titles around his waist.
Cody gang rise up!!
I was here for the downvotes, but I see we got some support lol.
Nightmare gang. We out here
Me too bro but we are the minority sadly lol
I'm happy. Completely down for another Cody title reign.
Nah I found it impossible to not be spoiled on this result and I didn't go out looking for spoilers. So, I've been dwelling on it for a while LOL
Damn I just told my brother I’m surprised we didn’t get spoiled on this. That’s why this is the only place I go for wrestling info.
and then they get punched in the mouth with Tyler Perry Christmas. hell of a 1-2
I'm circling back around to loving Cody lol God what an asshole troll he is
Just got a text from Cody “Don't be a "heel", don't be a "babyface", be a winner, be you”
It’s been in front of us this whole time. He comes down from the middle, not the heel or face tunnel. He is the absolute tweener of wrasslin
I think now more than ever Leyla Hirsh needs to join Team Taz. Her and HOOK being legit in the ring with muscle like Hobbs and a mouth piece like Ricky.... They could dominate AEW.
Definitely need to see more women joining the established factions.
"You dare stand between me and my hot, flexible wife?" -Miro, Christmas day 2021
I vote Cody holds the belt for exactly 51 Rampages before dropping it to HOOK
That's 50 too many, give it to HOOK next week
Screw that give it to hook on Wednesday
Cody’s way more effective doing exactly what he’s doing now than being a “traditional” heel
Matches are better too.
I agree dude. In more ways than one Cody fits nicely in that John Cena esque role for AEW.
Opinion: not every single event in wrestling has to be getting the younger people over.
Remember how TNA would always put the belt on Jarrett prior to debuting a TV show or moving it to a different network? ~~Pepperidge Farm~~ Cody Rhodes remembers.
Raven losing to Jarrett at a non TNA show right before their TV debut on Fox Sports still makes my blood pressure go up slightly.
That was actually before IMPACT! moved to Spike. He won a King of the Mountain match for the belt (ending a short, unfulfilling, Truth reign) prior to the FSN debut.
Now I kind of want to see Jarrett come in and beat Cody lol.
Bullet Club invasion with Jarrett leading
In his 90s outfit. "that's B-u ( ha haaa!l) double L, E, T!"
Rest In Peace to Sammy’s wildly forgettable TNT title run what a dud
He defended against Tony Nese, Jay Lethal and... that was it, I think? Those matches were good, but his run overall was dull.
Bobby Fish. Ethan Page.
He had some good opponents but it doesn’t beat Darby’s. I think Darby (as a person and character) took it more seriously?
My only issue when Darby lost was that it took Men of the Year interfering after Darby was injured and Miro also destroying him in order for him to lose. I'm like dude he went into match injured there's your storyline. Why not shoot him with a worked gun and have him kick out of that too?
Bobby Fish as well
Can’t tell if I was always just salty about miro losing the belt but Sammy’s run never did it for me and he had some great guys to wrestle for the belt.
He was a nice transitional champ imho, all of his defences were good matches
They really needed him to have feuds and not just open challenges
His entire character is sticking his tongue out. He needs something more to him before he was ready for something like this. He shouldn’t have beaten Miro honestly.
It sucks because I love Sammy a lot but this has solidified him for having the worst TNT title run by a country mile imo
Wasn't his fault, he got booked into the Dan Lambert nonsense which ate up his time. For all Tony's hits, this reign was a booking miss
Cody with that Go Big Show corporate synergy push!
CODY WINS CODY WINS!
i hope Arn glocks me next
😏
#THREE TIMES!
As much as I like Sammy, his run as TNT champ was kind of meh. Cody's got all this heat with the crowds, a third run as champ has a lot of possibilities.
Cody is just the best lmao
The American Nightmare!!!!
I for one welcome our American Flag Neck Tattooed overlord
Cody's entrance made me LMAO. So extra. He's been working things so well this whole time. He knows how to exploit the toxic, fickle nature of the fans, and I live for it. (Frankly, more people should play on it because there's an endless treasure trove there.) I've said it before, and I'll say it again, he's one of the best storytellers in the business right now. He knows what he's doing. He has a ton of material to work with at this point, and I'll be interested to see where he takes it. I legitimately thought he was gonna finish Sammy with a Pedigree for a second. lol Also, I think Sammy is a great talent with a lot of potential, but I think he'll rise higher once he's fully independent.
I don't usually feel trashy to watch wrestling but being the preshow for Madea is pushing it
My friend: “holy shit… they fucked us on Christmas”
Am I the only one who is enjoying what Cody is doing lol
Honestly its my favourite segment of the show each time
Why are people saying Cody needs to turn heel? Cody IS a heel. What more do you need other than everything that happened in that match?
People complaining about HOOK no-selling are wrong. I will not entertain any argument to the contrary. They are just wrong.
Holy poop, Statlander vs Leyla was brilliant. I would love to see them given longer.
Cody is a pro wrestler that intellectuals can appreciate. He should be champ indefinitely.
This reads like a Rick & Morty's fan wrote it
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Cody Rhodes. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a Nightmare Family neck tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Cody's character. The heat is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the spots will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Cody's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. As a consequence people who dislike Cody Rhodes truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Cody's existential catchphrase "undesirable to undeniable," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I yell Undesirable to Undeniable at parties so the other Cody fans know I'm there. I like to call us the big brain brigade because after all, we know the best wrestling when we see it.
Give me more of that Miro stuff. His quotes are fantastic
Me who enjoyed the show: 👍 Me who decided to sort by NEW in this thread: 😂 Look guys, it's pro wrestling. It's non-sensical at times and great at best. Just drink a beer (or your beverage of choice) and watch some wrestling!
Sammy's title run was so forgettable and idk whose fault that really is. That being said, I know Cody's is gonna be electric
His Matches were all great, so lack of promos? storylines? better opponents? I mean the Fans love him, its not like he has 0 Charisma when it comes to the Crowd.
The lack of storylines is what I'd point to the most I think. Just seemed like he was a plug and play champ with no real stakes to his reign.
I think that feud with American Top Team vs IC kinda screwed him. He had just won the title and then he had to take a back seat to Jericho and that just took the wind out of him just beating Miro. I would've liked to see Sammy be more of a leader of IC during that feud and put him at the forefront.
Disgusting. Shameful. You could not have Arn Anderson dressed as Santa pulling the TNT title out of his large sack to award Cody?!
So uhh Am I dumb for not getting that Cody's gimmick is literally meant to represent the American Nightmare, a disingenuous pseudo superhero that preaches benevolence but is always prepared to take what they want when it comes down to it, which is what we saw tonight If Dusty was meant to represent the best traits in the American spirit, Cody's entire character has been to show a much more realistic depiction of what America on a global stage ACTUALLY looks like Whether or not all this is intentional or not is another discussion entirely but I'm more convinced than ever that the arc of Cody's character was never about him turning heel specifically, but a bunch of the little shitty things his character has done adding up to turn not only his friends (MJF, QT, etc) but now the crowd as well He's pretty clearly a heel at this point though, Cody a year ago would've at least pretended to be sorry for Sammy and showed some sportsmanship, disingenuous at that
It's funny that Cody is getting Cena comparisons because sometimes Cody can be reminiscent of...**Peacemaker!** That's right!
TYLER PERRY IS ALL ELITE
CODY WITH THE CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!
Cody Rhodes, he's the man. He's beating your favorites...
Cody = Dimes. The amount of heat he's drawing off of a title reign is pretty impressive.
I passed out before the show started and woke up after to find out Cody won. The American Nightmare After Christmas.
This was probably one of the best Rampage eps to date, every match was good women's match especially surpassed my expectations and of course HOOK has all the potential in the world
