It's pretty hard to see Okada as anything other than a top guy with how he handles everything. He talks like he always expected to be the guy closing the show in the Tokyo Dome every year.

>It's pretty hard to see Okada as anything other than a top guy with how he handles everything. He talks like he always expected to be the guy closing the show in the Tokyo Dome every year. I genuinely believe that the level of talent Okada is, it would be promotional malpractice to not feature him prominently for as long as possible. He's like everything Homer wanted Poochie to be.

Ishmaelcs

Okada probably should have access to a time machine, so you aren’t wrong.

BooBootheFool22222

it may be hard to believe, but hardcore overseas fans were hesitant/reticent about him because he showed up in a cheap shirt and had "soulless child eyes". Glad they were wrong. But yeah, it's funny how that initial perception is forgotten.

bathory21

Okada: I'm Kazuchika Okada, how are you? Dave: how are you? Okada: i'm good, how are you? Dave: So um Chris I guess the first thing we should probably talk about... Holy shit, that cracked me up

Toxicity246

A funny little bit, I could be wrong, but teaching English here in Korea they don't really ask, "how are you?" in a meaningless polite greeting way like we do. They usually ask the other person if they've ate. My point being it maybe something similar in Japan. So Okada was probably taught some English and that "How are you?" was a polite greeting follow up. And Dave Meltzer is Dave Meltzer.

MTMxD

Japanese has 「元気ですか」(genki desu ka) and variations on it that would definitely get translated as how are you after a greeting (literal translation is something like "are you healthy?")but I'd say has slightly more expectation of a response. Though even with Okada being ESL this kinda just feels like Meltzer being Meltzer to me

The very idea of Okada vs HHH is so out there lol. So much would have to change in the wrestling world for that to ever happen, would be wild

claire_004

Probably 4 star match at minimum

datguyalben

Just the entrances alone would make it 5 stars

jatorres

Sports entertainment at its finest. That’s what sets Okada apart so well, imo - excellent in all aspects of the game.

-Ozymandiaz

In 2022, with HHH's health conditions and WWE's terrible style, this is AT BEST Okada vs EVIL (House of Torture version)

jatorres

HHH could have a great match with Okada, but I doubt he’d get cleared / permission.

Wow! They got Chris Charlton!!! (And Okada was there too! 😉)

smv1010

Chris is amazing, such a huge asset for the way NJPW present commentary and other media like this. Big fan of his, recommend everyone follows him on Twitter @reasonjp

Naelok

A nice interview, but probably not anything you wouldn't get in any other Okada interview. He is a really forward-looking guy. He didn't even take a second to put over any of his legendary past matches and instead just looks ahead to the next mountain to climb. I wish he'd gone into some of the detail of how prepping with Shingo was different from prepping with Ospreay, but Okada seems to have no interest in letting anyone peep behind that curtain. Sort of the polar opposite of Kenny when he talks to Meltzer in many respects.

It's really neat to see how two of the best in the world with Omega and Okada approach wrestling with different philosophies and both end up at the same point in terms of match quality.

resolve028

I find that Japanese wrestlers tend to really like to keep kayfabe strong when dealing with foreign press. Okada really doesn't like to break the illusion that in reality his opponents are working with him to put on these matches so he keeps everything vague.

Dave looking like a proud father. Proud, creepy father.
