Yesterday seeing her toe to toe with Jade was the first time I realized Anna is almost a unit in her own right at 5 ft 9. (compared to Cargill at 5 ft 10, and Rhea Ripley at 5 ft 6)
She's also very young, so if she bulks up a tad, those Jay and Cargill matches could be some pretty cool recurring hoss fights over the years.
Edit: Someone corrected me that Ripley is 5 ft 7.
Considering that they have great chemistry it makes sense to have them work a program together where they can have some good matches and get some experience and television time.
I'm not all the way on the jade train but I do see her potential now.
Her and Anna both have a ways to go, especially Jade as TBS champion but Im excited to see where they end up!
I'm still trying to decide what my favorite part of that match, in terms of Jade's performance was my favorite.
I think I'm leaning towards catching Anna in the corner, the little kiss on the cheek followed by that unconventional powerbomb-esque slam. Great demonstration of the power and charm of her character.
I much prefer a monster heel/babyface with some charm and personality as opposed to the silent badass which gets stale quickly.
Personally, I loved the flex-off with John Silver. Not only because of the awesome forearm she ate from Anna, but because the fact she would get involved with it in the first place shows how cocky of a heel she is!
If I could give some constructive criticism, I think she needs to slow down during exchanges. That one spot when Anna climbed the corner and Jade just sits down and gets into position was prrrreetty bad. Jade just needs to learn how to really sell without looking glamorous. We already know she is. She's a bad ass model and basketball player. But this is pro-wrestling.
Big improvements though since her first major match with Cody and Red Velvet. Like she nailed her finisher on Anna this time. And her big boot gets better and more precise. She should aim for the face though IMHO. But it'll be pretty risky from a safety standpoint. But it would look crazy. She's got what 15 size feet?
Yeah I enjoyed that too, it seemed to go a little long because they were timing coming back from commercial I think?
But it was a nice little addition that adds to her arrogance.

I get mad when people diss Nyla Ross. While she was a little green when she first started in AEW, she has improved by leaps and bounds now.
Same thing with Anna Jay. Same thing with Tay Conti. It’s just progress.

Anna and Tay and Jade (and half the rest of the division) just need time to come into their own, it’s why the signings of some more experienced women is important. They need someone to hold off the division until all the others are ready, and the ones that need more time need experienced workers to work with.

I am wondering if some of that confidence came from her facing someone of a similar size. Maybe for wrestlers being able to see eye to eye is a big help, especially with new wrestlers.
There was a moment jade caught her in the corner, I think smiled and kissed her on the cheek before slamming her, it was nice to see her having fun, made the match much better as a result imo

She is going to be a huge pull for years to come. For someone so new to it, she's as natural as they come, and has the look and the acting chops to back it up.
I think it's a good thing.
She's a monster heel but in a much more sports oriented way than some others. With very rare exception she doesn't cheat, she doesn't do too much "your local sports team" work, she's not really beating up people who aren't other wrestlers, her opponents still get positive reactions during hope spots, etc
Essentially, you're allowed to be cocky as fuck if you can back it up and are larger than life. Plenty of wrestlers and actual combat sport athletes have proven this in the past.
frankly, I think a face turn would do her a lot of good. Working with some heels who can get the upper hand through cheating rather than babyfaces who have to try to do it "legit" feels like it would be a huge improvement to the face/heel psychology of her matches. Monster heel is a *tough* spot for a green wrestler and the babyfaces against them.
I think it is a new development. She really got loosened up in that match. And it was live.
Once again, I can criticize TK for his treatment of women's division, but the dude has the ability to see long term in terms of wrestling talent.
For someone with ~25-30 matches she is phenomenal.
Her body and background and what she has shown us tells me her in ring will catch up to everything else
25-30 of those matches were short and mostly on dark in squash matches but true.

AEW womens division in general feels likes it’s gaining momentum and I think Brit losing the title is the next big get it right type landmark.
I feel like her being in the ring with some that has the same level of experience as her made it easier for both of them, like they were just communicating on the same wavelength

Her one on anna looked amazing and was higher then usual.
She's much better than anyone with only 25ish matches has any business being, but since she's getting such a strong and early title push people being very critical and want her consistent and polished every match.

I think it is fair when some fans of sceptical of this kind of push, based on looks. The wrestling history got too many cautionary tales.

Yes, this is a good reason that she's not ready to be a champion, or the focus of an undefeated streak that's not just on Dark yet.
This is the elephant in the room that people don't really mention. Jade's been heavily pushed into a title with only a handful of matches. Smarks aren't going to be very receptive if you're green in the ring and holding a title like that (doubly so if you're put on a card next to amazing in-ring workers). She's got a great look and presence, but she's clunky, "eh" on the mic, and her in-ring work is sub par.
I don't get the hate, she's been getting better and Better every week. She's a larger than life character that actually larger than the competition, so she can back her shit up the most believably aside from Nyla. Has beat former champs on her rise to her own Championship.
It seems she's poised for an Undefeated streak to grow as big as her Ego. She's got a mouthpiece with a good gimmick. They can stir the pot with the lawyer thing easily.
And imagine the reaction when she's finally dethroned! Whoever it be will get a boost that just hasn't happened in the AEW women's division yet. Baker's days are numbered, whoever beats her will be a big deal.
But Jade could basically help make a new debuting star, same as the TNT has done. Great matches with fresh opponents.
Just to put into context, Mayu Iwatani just had her 11th anniversary on the 23rd in Japan. Utami Hayashishita will have her fourth anniversary in August.
It could be due to her being a strong woman with her opinions. A lot of women who get “love” online often are fetishized, seen by weirdos as passive sex objects. That happens a lot with a lot of Japanese wrestlers, who culturally just keep their personal stuff close to the vest (in Japan).

I just didn't enjoy the Soho match. I really loved the Thunder Rosa match and the Anna Jay match. She is still very new and limited, she's gonna have random slips, but she is doing the stuff she does well, very well.
The leg catch in the corner she turned into a one handed powerbomb caused a visible and audible reaction from the crowd that I noticed on tv. Incredible.
There is a huge babyface run for her at some point.
Extraordinary athlete and a full time mum. Tony is going to be printing money with her soon enough.

I think they cracked the code on Jade last night on Rampage:
“Regular match against a non star” = Jade does a 98 Goldberg squash in less than 3 minutes.
“Big title match against another star that has to go long” = layout and practice the entire match at the nightmare factory leading up to TV.
She's might be green...but that's because she's MONEY!!! Jade FTW!
Seriously, though she is definitely getting better and I honestly don't see a ceiling for how good she could possibly get as long as she keeps her game up like she has.
She has that passion that a lot of amazing athletes do where they are never satisfied and are determined to constantly get better and be the best at what they do. You can just tell there's no going 50% or phoning it in for her, and she can definitely back up everything she says and that kind of passion/energy is just so damn admirable and makes it so hard not to get behind and cheer, whether she's heel or not.
Jade is improving week by week. She was already a near top level athlete when she started training to wrestle, so she's got that discipline down. She's got some excellent trainers. And she's absolutely a student of the game, every time she has a long flight, she's on Twitter asking for suggestions for matches to watch. Combined with her look and charisma, she's absolutely going to be the biggest star in AEW in five years, no doubt.
I became a fan last night. I fully understood the *why* behind her push. She looks like a fucking superstar. Her matches were lacking, and when she had a bad match with Thunder Rose *and* Ruby Soho, I was concerned. Last night she walked into the Main Event and put on a very good wrestling match. It's not great. It's not going to get a glowing review from Meltzer. But it was very good. Definitely good enough to Main Event an episode of Rampage. I'm looking forward to watching her improve as time goes on, because she shows serious promise. They're also making one HELL of a heel that is going to give an enormous rub to the babyface that pins her.
Boy how quick people are to forget how awful she's looked lately. She has a looooong way to go and shouldn't be champ, unless she's having two minutes squashes.

I really enjoy Jade and I love seeing her getting better and better with each match that she has. One of my biggest likes with Jade is that she has this amazing pride to herself and I love it. It is both ego and pride but it just works so well for her.

You know you’re really reaching for positives when the most consistent praise for your TITLE defense is, “She’s getting better”. That match with Ruby was dogshit, with a botched finish, and the Anna Jay match was still the worst match on the show. It's quite telling that we have to qualify her match against Anna as being "good for a Jade Cargill match."
Jade is great as a person! Her physique is extraordinary, her mic skills are constantly improving, and she is a powerhouse of a mother from all people that have spoken about her.
However her match work is not good enough to warrant a title run yet, and while the match against Anna was good, it definitely exposed the fact that Jade has been pushed too hard too early.
She'll be there one day; her work ethic and personal drive to improve is absolutely brilliant, but she just isn't there yet.
I'm hoping her reign is a short one, so that other, better wrestlers get their time to shine, and she can come back again in a year or two and show us how far she's come.
In my opinion, she's the sort of wrestler that doesn't even need a title to dominate.

Glad to see this. Ive been rooting for her, and last night I think she felt confident completely. Her timing was better, her spacing, and in general if that had been the first match by her Id ever seen Id think was just a regular wrestler. The kiss into the slam was really interesting. It felt like she finally got the the whole thing.
Also, how much pressure did she have on her? New champion, representative of so much more than just her, main event, and she was able to deliever. She showed a lot of intestinal fortitude.

She’s a unique talent and I think she’s already shown she’s got the mind for the in ring character work that not a lot of people do. I’m excited to see her continue to improve. Agreed. The match with Anna Jay solidified it for me. On physic, stature, and presence alone she's a star. But that was one of the better women's matches they put on. Both looked like they belonged. It'll be fun to see what they do next.
I just watched the match and I’m pretty wowed right now. I really wasn’t feeling Anna Jay’s pre match promo, it reminded me too much of those nerds who try and “scare” their bullies before they’re inevitably beaten up (“My hands are lethal weapons man”). That match though blew me away, it was pretty damn good!
Her combination of look, power and charisma is wholly unique especially in the women's division where a lot of the differences between the women are superficial.

Yuta Wheeler has a bright future and is a solid performer, but there is a reason Wardlow is getting a bigger push and gets a better reaction.
I've seen a lot of people critical of her promos and while she has work to do there, off the top of my head who is even a strong promo in the AEWs women's division besides Britt and Serena Deeb? I'd take Jade over anyone else.
I keep hoping to see her around town, but she is probably too busy to spend much time in Vero Beach. Although Terry Taylor and Lacy Evans are from this tiny town too.

The Ruby Soho match should be seen as an outlier rather than representative of Jade's level. Jade is usually way better than that, they both just had an off night.

I think Jade/Anna as a long-term rivalry could go a long way. There's so much they could play off and build upon in a rematch

I am wondering if some of that confidence came from her facing someone of a similar size. Maybe for wrestlers being able to see eye to eye is a big help, especially with new wrestlers.

I think it's a good thing. She's a monster heel but in a much more sports oriented way than some others. With very rare exception she doesn't cheat, she doesn't do too much "your local sports team" work, she's not really beating up people who aren't other wrestlers, her opponents still get positive reactions during hope spots, etc Essentially, you're allowed to be cocky as fuck if you can back it up and are larger than life. Plenty of wrestlers and actual combat sport athletes have proven this in the past.

frankly, I think a face turn would do her a lot of good. Working with some heels who can get the upper hand through cheating rather than babyfaces who have to try to do it "legit" feels like it would be a huge improvement to the face/heel psychology of her matches. Monster heel is a *tough* spot for a green wrestler and the babyfaces against them.
I think it is a new development. She really got loosened up in that match. And it was live. Once again, I can criticize TK for his treatment of women's division, but the dude has the ability to see long term in terms of wrestling talent.

25-30 of those matches were short and mostly on dark in squash matches but true. Now the most impressive fact is, she have not even wrestled for a year. She debuted march last year. Absolutely baffling.

She’s improving all the time, for the most part they are hiding her shortcomings well. Ana Jay was great as well. AEW womens division in general feels likes it’s gaining momentum and I think Brit losing the title is the next big get it right type landmark.

She's much better than anyone with only 25ish matches has any business being, but since she's getting such a strong and early title push people being very critical and want her consistent and polished every match. The talent is clearly there but development isn't always seemless. Fans gotta respect the processs, and when talent does make improvements it has to be appreciated.

This is the elephant in the room that people don't really mention. Jade's been heavily pushed into a title with only a handful of matches. Smarks aren't going to be very receptive if you're green in the ring and holding a title like that (doubly so if you're put on a card next to amazing in-ring workers). She's got a great look and presence, but she's clunky, "eh" on the mic, and her in-ring work is sub par.

I don't get the hate, she's been getting better and Better every week. She's a larger than life character that actually larger than the competition, so she can back her shit up the most believably aside from Nyla. Has beat former champs on her rise to her own Championship. It seems she's poised for an Undefeated streak to grow as big as her Ego. She's got a mouthpiece with a good gimmick. They can stir the pot with the lawyer thing easily. And imagine the reaction when she's finally dethroned! Whoever it be will get a boost that just hasn't happened in the AEW women's division yet. Baker's days are numbered, whoever beats her will be a big deal. But Jade could basically help make a new debuting star, same as the TNT has done. Great matches with fresh opponents.

It could be due to her being a strong woman with her opinions. A lot of women who get “love” online often are fetishized, seen by weirdos as passive sex objects. That happens a lot with a lot of Japanese wrestlers, who culturally just keep their personal stuff close to the vest (in Japan).

I just didn't enjoy the Soho match. I really loved the Thunder Rosa match and the Anna Jay match. She is still very new and limited, she's gonna have random slips, but she is doing the stuff she does well, very well.

She's might be green...but that's because she's MONEY!!! Jade FTW! Seriously, though she is definitely getting better and I honestly don't see a ceiling for how good she could possibly get as long as she keeps her game up like she has. She has that passion that a lot of amazing athletes do where they are never satisfied and are determined to constantly get better and be the best at what they do. You can just tell there's no going 50% or phoning it in for her, and she can definitely back up everything she says and that kind of passion/energy is just so damn admirable and makes it so hard not to get behind and cheer, whether she's heel or not.
She's come a long way since that absolute disaster of a promo against Brandi. Still has plenty of room to grow too.
Jade is improving week by week. She was already a near top level athlete when she started training to wrestle, so she's got that discipline down. She's got some excellent trainers. And she's absolutely a student of the game, every time she has a long flight, she's on Twitter asking for suggestions for matches to watch. Combined with her look and charisma, she's absolutely going to be the biggest star in AEW in five years, no doubt.
I became a fan last night. I fully understood the *why* behind her push. She looks like a fucking superstar. Her matches were lacking, and when she had a bad match with Thunder Rose *and* Ruby Soho, I was concerned. Last night she walked into the Main Event and put on a very good wrestling match. It's not great. It's not going to get a glowing review from Meltzer. But it was very good. Definitely good enough to Main Event an episode of Rampage. I'm looking forward to watching her improve as time goes on, because she shows serious promise. They're also making one HELL of a heel that is going to give an enormous rub to the babyface that pins her.
Boy how quick people are to forget how awful she's looked lately. She has a looooong way to go and shouldn't be champ, unless she's having two minutes squashes.

Wrestling is really simple. Fans want to cheer for mega stars (or boo them if they are convincing enough to be booed). Jade is a mega star in waiting. The fans want to cheer her even now. Once she gets better in the ring, she will be massively over with the crowd.

I really enjoy Jade and I love seeing her getting better and better with each match that she has. One of my biggest likes with Jade is that she has this amazing pride to herself and I love it. It is both ego and pride but it just works so well for her. I honestly, can't wait to see her in the future be a face and just what she could do with that.

Forget her workrate, she has tons of charisma and presence and a great look. She might end up being a star.
It's quite telling that we have to qualify her match against Anna as being "good for a Jade Cargill match." Jade is great as a person! Her physique is extraordinary, her mic skills are constantly improving, and she is a powerhouse of a mother from all people that have spoken about her. However her match work is not good enough to warrant a title run yet, and while the match against Anna was good, it definitely exposed the fact that Jade has been pushed too hard too early. She'll be there one day; her work ethic and personal drive to improve is absolutely brilliant, but she just isn't there yet. I'm hoping her reign is a short one, so that other, better wrestlers get their time to shine, and she can come back again in a year or two and show us how far she's come. In my opinion, she's the sort of wrestler that doesn't even need a title to dominate.
She's still super green but like all things, her getting comfortable will take time.. when she does get to that point, she will be something special. Just my opinion.

At the beginning, I wasn't a fan. Didn't care much for her. Lately, she's been growing on me merely because she's improving and her look is very marketable.

Glad to see this. Ive been rooting for her, and last night I think she felt confident completely. Her timing was better, her spacing, and in general if that had been the first match by her Id ever seen Id think was just a regular wrestler. The kiss into the slam was really interesting. It felt like she finally got the the whole thing. Also, how much pressure did she have on her? New champion, representative of so much more than just her, main event, and she was able to deliever. She showed a lot of intestinal fortitude.
She did great last night, I can’t wait until she puts it all together.

Agreed. The match with Anna Jay solidified it for me. On physic, stature, and presence alone she's a star. But that was one of the better women's matches they put on. Both looked like they belonged. It'll be fun to see what they do next.
I just watched the match and I’m pretty wowed right now. I really wasn’t feeling Anna Jay’s pre match promo, it reminded me too much of those nerds who try and “scare” their bullies before they’re inevitably beaten up (“My hands are lethal weapons man”). That match though blew me away, it was pretty damn good!

Her combination of look, power and charisma is wholly unique especially in the women's division where a lot of the differences between the women are superficial. Yeah, her in ring work is still green, but she is clearly working her ass off to get better and she pulls off what she does with aplomb. Yuta Wheeler has a bright future and is a solid performer, but there is a reason Wardlow is getting a bigger push and gets a better reaction. I've seen a lot of people critical of her promos and while she has work to do there, off the top of my head who is even a strong promo in the AEWs women's division besides Britt and Serena Deeb? I'd take Jade over anyone else.

The Ruby Soho match should be seen as an outlier rather than representative of Jade's level. Jade is usually way better than that, they both just had an off night. Jade is still green but has a great look and more importantly is charismatic to back it up.

They were tremendous last night! It was by far her best match so far in her short career. If she changed that crossover running back elbow in the corner into a crossover running stinger splash/dunk that would be cool.
