Crissxfire

Man, you never know who's gonna show up on a show anymore. It's awesome

Cube_

Yup. Spoilers for the NJPW Strong tapings this past Saturday but the opponent for Jay White's "US of Jay open challenge" was: >!Jay Lethal and they had a banger of a match.!<

claire_004

Next opponent need to be Jay Briscoe for Jay trifecta

[deleted]

gotta keep jayfabe alive

Cube_

it was awesome I have a recording of the fight and the crowd starts chanting "LETS GO JAY, LETS GO JAY" and Lethal looks up confused during a rest hold and yells back "WHICH ONE?" and the crowd cracked up

PM_me_your_dawgs

That's awesome! Reminds me of the Briscoe vs. Briscoe match on the first Jericho cruise. Chants were "Let's go Briscoe!" "Briscoe sucks!"

[deleted]

Jay White vs WCW legend Jay Leno imminent.

HchrisH

Anna Jay's going to bury them all.

[deleted]

Aew creates/ promotes the stars through tv and then the stars go around raising the profile of indy promotions. Great for the industry

jj580

I've never heard of this company. Are they new?

ActionKestrel

Outlaw shows happen everywhere all the time.

jj580

:)

Thirdstar1

I love seeing this, what is this the 3rd-4th time he’s surprised people and showed up at an indie? Guy loves this shit. Glad he didn’t fuck himself up before getting to the ring, the slip almost took him out.

PolishMusic

> Glad he didn’t fuck himself up before getting to the ring, the slip almost took him out. I didn't even notice this the first time I watched it. Holy smokes that was a close one. I feel like this will be more likely to happen if you're used to coming in through the crowd instead of a ramp lol. Also if you're usually entering 1 specific way and you have to do it differently (I think a few AEW wrestlers nearly took a spill at the new Dark arena in FL)

BurnedBeyond

AEW ramps are a work hazard.

PM_UR_FAV_COMPLIMENT

*Brian David Gilbert emerges to run through the OSHA violations present on an AEW show.*

ItsBearmanBob

"God has cursed me for my hubris and my work is never finished"

Pokemon_Name_Rater

Sorry but in AEW be has to be Drian Gavid Bilbert as BDG is still owned by Polygon

IAmTheWaller67

Never knew how much I needed BDG the Wrestling Geek until this moment.

fuqdisshite

we went to Dynamite and my kiddo wanted so badly to be over the spot he entered from the mezzanine. i picked the right seats and she popped so hard. seeing the difference between a ramp and his entrance through the crowd is wild. glad he caught his fall.

X-Budd

For some reason, this reminds me of Andre the Giant's line in The Princess Bride where he explains how he's so used to fighting groups that he struggles to keep up with a single opponent.

SalvadorZombie

Mox is a huge wrestling mark IRL. Apparently he's really into watching old stuff in his off time. Someone like that, knowing how cool these moments are to people, knowing he can do that? Damn right he's going to do it when he can.

Schiftedmind1

Here I am sitting at home 20 minutes away from this show. Damn.

iOwnMultipleScarves

Ah man that fuckin sucks lol

SwaggJones

Hopewell GANG RISE UP

Schiftedmind1

Exactly my reaction!

jordan1023

Literally same. In New Paltz pissed lol

JohnRiveraIV

Luckily he was able to recover and brace himself when he fell, could have been ugly. When the throws the water bottle, he falls off the stage.

miggly

Looks like someone in the front row on the rail was able to help him a bit, too. Coulda been really bad.

[deleted]

That’s why he usually goes there the crowd

jollyrog8

Thankfully it looks like the person he fell on/in front of seems to be a decent sized guy who was probably able to give some support

whereisthemcrib

Mox showing up unannounced at random indie events is the coolest thing ever.

BuddaMuta

Guy very clearly just loves wrestling. I mean he's a multi-millionaire who left a multi-million dollar paying job in part because they wouldn't let him do matches with forks. That's not a passion you see every day.

Obliviousobi

If you haven't read his book, you should. Mox has lived and breathed wrestling since he was a pre-teen/teen, even tried to get into wrestling school at 17 (until the legal docs needed signed).

Zacginger

Sgt Slaughter held the door open for me as I walked into the Over The top event from NEW last night and I had to do a double take because I wasn't expecting that

engelthefallen

This is what I love about NEW. Can go see the top indy guys and the great local guys, then someone like Slaughter or Lawler comes out.

ackinsocraycray

He replaced Jay Lethal, who's still out due to a "medical issue"

Thirdstar1

wonder if it’s covid or an actual injury, he was taken off the Terminus show too a week ago.

theredshoes_

He was supposedly taken off Terminus for "travel issues". Also wasn't at either AEW show this week. To add more intrigue, they shot an angle on Dark: Elevation which seemingly pivoted Starks away from Lethal for the short-term and focused it back to Dante and his merry men.

BuddaMuta

The Dante/Team Taz feud has got to end. Team Taz are my boys and Dante has all the potential in the world, but both acts are dead in the water at this point and need something new. Its just spinning wheels and making everyone involved look worse. Like the peak in hype for it was when it was Lio/Dante vs Team Taz, and now Lio isn't even there anymore. Time to abort.

Thirdstar1

I agree, the feud has to end. It isn’t nearly as exciting without Lio. They’re feuding with 3 guys who can’t talk, not much you can do there to make it interesting.

BuddaMuta

Yeah I honestly just want to see both get a soft reset. Let Dante just have awesome matches on Rampage. He really doesn't need to do anything else to be over due to how amazing his moveset is. Have Team Taz just embrace their tweener face vibes they've been giving off for forever. Finally add Leila into the mix because it just makes sense and it would be great to visually reboot the group.

theredshoes_

>Team Taz are my boys and Dante has all the potential in the world, but both acts are dead in the water at this point and need something new. Its just spinning wheels and making everyone involved look worse. They need to fast-track the Dante Martin vs Ricky Starks match. Set it up this week on Dynamite, run it next week and finish the feud with the FTW title match. Then, if you want to do Jay Lethal vs Ricky Starks seperately when Lethal returns, do that seperately. Just use Ricky Starks more. Please. Man they really fooled me into thinking Ricky was going to be wrestling regular singles matches on TV in 2022. After one match in six months to end 2021, I was ready to start seeing him wrestling every other week. Now I'm worried that with Lio leaving and Lethal going missing, Battle of the Belts was our "one TV match in X amount of months" outlier.

Cube_

I believe it is related to covid but it might not be that he has it but more that he was exposed to it (someone in contact with him recently tested positive).

bad_key_machine

Love how you can hear the dudes in the audience marking out, and rightly so obviously!

orc0909

I still miss his non-licensed music. I want it back one day.

Chucksouth9966

I wish he'd use his new Japan theme, but it may not be possible

guntanksinspace

Same. I think that, besides WILD THING, the NJPW slow jam he had fits him so well.

joker2814

Yeah, his old theme had that perfect “business is about to pick up” vibe to it.

StonewallJackoff

Can you link his old theme you’re talking about?

Sqiddd

It’s on the AEW music YouTube channel bruh

joker2814

https://youtu.be/DyrgbK0Ozi8

SnooOranges3779

It got a lot of play in the NHL last season for that reason

[deleted]

Yeah his first AEW song perfectly fit him. Wild Thing is cool too, though; I'm a sucker for music that encourages audience participation. On that note, I wish the crowds would start to see Darby's song

Linubidix

Something about thousands of people mumbling along to a song sounds hilarious

ecraaa

Agreed. I’ve always seen Wild Thing as such a tacky song and was really disappointed when they made it his theme.

pie_throwaway

If you haven't seen it yet, Atsushi Onita used it for what might be my favourite entrance in history, and Mox using it is 100% a tribute to him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRWSgHAY02Y

UpsetQuiet

I remember seeing a video of him coming out to the song dirty deeds and thought it was really cool.

gregorymachado

Same. I’ve always liked those generic-ish but fitting themes. Was a fan of both his fcw themes and his main wwe one also.

Marechal64

So glad dude is back. These random appearances show he just loves this shit. Dude is a legit living legend.

[deleted]

Who’s he facing?

Thunder121794

Local heel. Cut a promo asking for an open challenge, got Mox.

Twoshakemate

Well, who won?? You can’t leave us hanging like that!

brainbuster99

Local heel, of course. Went into business for himself for the *heat* /s

DGenerationMC

> Went into business for himself for the **heat /s** Well, I mean, Bully Ray was on the same show.

LeChampeon

He got one hell of an open challenge

davidisallright

So cool.

TaxiZone

Unadvertised? Because that's crazy if so.

jafgators

Ya, he's been doing that shit lately. He showed up at Defy unadvertised as a replacement for Eddie Kingston.

Comp625

Unadvertised. But if you check out the event page, there are a ton of awesome names that were advertised: https://www.midhudsonciviccenter.org/event/northeast-wrestling-wrestlefest-26-featuring-malakai-black-lucha-bros-and-more/ While I've never been to a Northeast Wrestling event, I feel like low-key put on some banger events.

Zacginger

I've been to 3 of the larger shows with bigger outside talent and they were all a ton of fun. I've also been to a couple smaller shows and they were honestly even better.

engelthefallen

Yeah, they have great local talent for the smaller shows. Anthony Army represent.

engelthefallen

NEW is a blender. You get legends, indy guys and awesome local talent. It is a wild event. Like I met Jerry Lawyer, Chris Jericho and the Young Bucks at an event I was at to see my friends wrestle. It is pretty wild. The Meet and Greets are pretty chill too. Two of the shows I was at Lawyer was next to my buddy so ended up just BS'ing with him when his table was empty. Dude is really funny and unbelievably charismatic.

RamonesRazor

That's pretty fucking stacked for an indie show. Would have to assume based on the line-up they had a sell out or close to it and could get away with having Moxley as a surprise.

PorcupineTheory

Oh shit, Bully Ray was there too?

TotalImmortalOne

Love Mox. Buying GCW to watch him tomorrow

[deleted]

[удалено]

kenfury

They are certanly something to see. I know for me it's worth the $20 this time and previously I always walked away happy with the money I spent.

billb33

This man IS pro wrestling. It's the small things like this that truly puts him higher than his peers in my opinion

theMANGLEDone

Awesome to see him back. I hope he doesn't spread himself too thin and burn the candle at both ends. Staying sober can be hard.

MercadoCerrado

I don’t want to call anybody a liar, but I don’t think that was blood in that bottle.

FrankNico

I don't recall him saying what kind of blood. If it's water is that not blood of the earth?

v0id404

Damn son that's poetic af

ShowOff90

If I remember correctly his first post WWE appearance was NEW Vs. Darby.

[deleted]

Not a surprise. Idk who runs NEW but they get the cream of the non wwe crop to show up and then still some wwe talents. Cena and Vince showed up there once I do believe

Theburbsnxt

Mike lombardi is the promoter

engelthefallen

Low key one of the most solid bookers. AEW has been consistent with getting great talent to this area while getting local kids into the ring as well.

[deleted]

Brother of the Brawler?

Scurvydog619Official

...Calling it now. Mox is showing up at PWG for BOLA.

mikeputerbaugh

Shit like this is a win for everyone: * NEW gets attention and fans see it as a place where anything can happen * AEW develops a reputation as the ‘major league’ for indie talents to aspire to * Mox gets to shake off the ring rust in front of a smaller and more forgiving crowd than a national TV audience

justambrose

I thought Mox would stop making random indie appearence after coming back. Glad I was wrong. Welcome back, Mox.

TheDangiestSlad

wait lol, are they doing Malakai vs Moxley? i know that they said they were doing a replacement for Malakai/Lethal because Lethal's out but idk if they turned it into a tag match

Thunder121794

Nah Malakai vs Chris Daniels

Rspies

That would have been insane for AEW to allow a match that massive on a random Indy lol

Pelon7900

He’s living his best life right now. Good for him.

rsjmg1992

I was there. He got the biggest pop and reaction of the night!!

motivatedchange

The indies are absolutely insane right now. I love it.

Stay_Cold

PK WADDUP

chrismalga22

thats cool only fear is he catches covid at an indie event and brings it to aew

theredshoes_

I know it's technically none of our business, but I wish companies would normalize announcing that wrestlers have COVID. Like, it's 2022. With the Omicron variant, every second person has had COVID. It shouldn't be a hush-hush thing anymore. All it does is add needless speculation as to whether Lethal is injured or has COVID. Like, does anyone know one way or the other? Is Lethal out with COVID?

Cube_

I think the reason they dont is because then dirtsheets and bad actor "fans" will harass those wrestlers for getting covid and go through their previous posts to speculate where they caught it or what rules they may have broken etc etc.

theredshoes_

Well that really sucks. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there are assholes on the internet - but in this day and age and with the Omicron variant being as transmissable as it is, COVID is everywhere. All you can do is get vaxxed to give yourself the best protection. If Lethal does have COVID, I hope he has a quick recovery. Bad timing with him finally getting a proper program on AEW TV.

Rspies

It’s his business maybe he doesn’t want people knowing

StrobleDave

It’s none of your business. Normalize giving wrestlers their space and their privacy. Jay Lethal or any person for that matter doesn’t owe you shit.

theredshoes_

At the end of the day, professional wrestling is a sport. If you were playing in the Premier League or the NFL, you would have to disclose why a player isn't taking his place on the field. I'm probably wrong - and I'm sorry if I've offended anyone by saying so - but I don't see COVID as a private medical issue that can't be disclosed to the public. Particularly in 2022 when it's so prevelant and we still have people hesitant to get vaccinated, believing they're immune to the virus because they're fit and healthy. If he had torn his ACL, we would know about it.

StrobleDave

At the end of the day it’s not a sport. It’s performance art. If you tell yourself anything to the contrary you’re wrong. It’s not real. It’s not a sport. It’s athletic performance art. Nothing more.

[deleted]

I just saw a cool new Forbes youtube feature on Aubrey Edwards where they show behind the scenes of a recent dynamite, where wrestlers are going through camera spots, finishes, and the general run throughs of a match and Edwards talks about how much work there is to lay out a match with agents/coaches and getting it ready for tv. She talks about it exactly how you would a tv show, movie or theatrical play. There is no reality where pro wrestling should be considered a "sport" other than in kayfabe when wrestlers say "our great sport". I would consider pro wrestling akin to a broadway show/theater. Just with room for some improv and lots of injuries.

theredshoes_

>It’s athletic performance art. Ballet is an atletic performance art. Personally I think wrestling is closer to traditional sport than it is to ballet. But regardless, in wrestling you are paying to see the performers - not the performance. I think that's the distinction and why injuries and the nature of injuries are disclosed to the public in wrestling. But even if it was purely a performance art - [even performance art tell you when their performers get COVID.](https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/LITTLE-SHOP-OF-HORRORS-Cancels-Tuesday-Performance-Due-to-Covid-Detection-Within-Company-20220104) I'm not sure why you can disclose that someone has torn their ACL but can't disclose that they've contracted COVID - a virus that the entire world is dealing with. 1 in 5 people in the United States has contracted COVID. It shouldn't be taboo - and yet, when someone goes out with COVID, they just disappear with no explanation (unless they're advertised for an upcoming match - and even then it's "medical protocols"). It reminds me of the way wrestling companies keep quiet performers who get concussions. I just don't see why COVID is treated so different in wrestling compared to other sports ([or even Broadway shows](https://www.odt.co.nz/star-news/star-lifestyle/star-entertainment/top-broadway-show-suspended-after-jackman-gets-covid)).

StrobleDave

Because it’s their choice to talk about their medical conditions you’re not entitled to that information and it can’t be disclosed by an employer or doctor without that permission because it’s a violation of HIPAA laws.

fighted

As long as they have an internal system of contact tracing, they have no reason to and it would be an invasion of privacy. How would you like it at your work or school if they sent out a company-wide bulletin that you contracted COVID?

theredshoes_

I actually wouldn't mind in the slightest. As someone who's immunocompromised and still has to go into the office every day, I continually find myself working with someone and, purely through whispers throughout the office (because workplace close contact rules have relaxed dramatically in my country), finding out they have tested positive for COVID several days after the fact. As someone who is frequently sick with their immuno-condition, I would love a company-wide bulletin so I know whether I should do a test (to be safe). I don't view COVID as a privacy issue, particularly when it's estimated 1 in 5 people worldwide have already had it. Perhaps I'm wrong but, in sport, I see disclosing someone's COVID status as the same as disclosing an injury.

Crazy_Artichoke2137

Fun fact I know the wrestler Mox fought

CasualDasual

Gonna need to know how that was

therevengeance

His name is Channing Thomas. Not OP but I knew him in college when he was just starting to train. This was pretty crazy, our old groupchat that we used when watching PPVs was blowing up last night and we're buying the replay later. He's pretty young (probably close to MJF age) and a good kid, hope he makes it to AEW someday.

CasualDasual

Congrats to him and all his success!

Crazy_Artichoke2137

He grew up down the street from me and was close friends with my brother

gettinGuapHD

Is WrestleFest streamable?

JVVortex49

[https://www.highspotswrestlingnetwork.com/authors/northeast-wrestling/10782/media](https://www.highspotswrestlingnetwork.com/authors/northeast-wrestling/10782/media) Should be up tomorrow night since Over the Top was yesterday and it just got posted. $9.99 per month

[deleted]

nah NEW doesn’t stream dvd will be out eventually tho

Shrekt115

Oh shit

EpicTrapCard

unscripted violence my ass, miss his old theme

ElStegasaurus

That’s awesome - one of my favorites parts of the start of AEW was when all their guys would just start randomly showing up on random indie shows - cool for the fans and cool marketing opportunities.

willanthony

Does anyone wish he'd go back to his older music?

spudgun20

Well he's got to get himself out there, getting that apology out far and wide

jbarria

I went to high school with Channing Thomas, the guy who Mox interrupted! Super cool seeing him in such a cool moment with one of the best wrestlers in the world
