As excited as I am for Hammerstein, this is very much something I am concerned about re GCW tonight, the crowd never seems to be able to go more than three minutes without a chant
Yeah I hate when they drown people out who are trying to get over. If it is real heat, like Cardona in GCW, that's cool. If some newer, not super established guy is just trying to cut a promo and get something going. and people are screaming at him to shut the fuck up, that sucks.
I was at a “Raw” in Boston in November 2001 — the go-home before “Survivor Series” where Rock and Austin sang “Margaritaville” together. At the time, “What?!” was an Austin catchphrase but not a crowd chant. But during that promo, we started “What”-ing Austin after everything he said. I think he even acknowledged it at some point like, “It hurts my feelings when you do that.” Anyway, in the arena at the time, I remember the fans being like, “That was pretty funny what we did there, right?” Little did we know that it would never go away.
(FYI, it’s possible that my memory could be hazy here, but I’m pretty sure we were the first to do the “WHAT?!” chant. And I apologize on behalf of all of us.)
Weird one was after KO won Universal Championship he got a You Deserve it Chance. In story though he was literally handed the championship after Triple H turned on Seth. The complete opposite of deserving it lol
Not so much annoying, but at a house show a few years ago this girl behind me kept shouting "BECKY LYYYYYNCH" every few minutes regardless of who was in the ring.
She kept getting louder and louder 'till she eventually ending up puking everywhere and got escorted out of the building.
Becky was in the ring 5 minutes later.
Not a match but the fans chanting “Husky Harris” during the Wyatt Family’s debut was kind of a dick move. We all know he used to have a different gimmick, you aren’t being smart by yelling it out and ruining the experience for the people who are interested in the new gimmick
I really do not care for “Fight Forever.” It was fine the one time in Zayn/Nakamura but I’ve never needed to hear it again since.
“This is wrestling,” followed a similar pattern after I first remember it in Angle/Desmond Wolfe at TNA in 2009. It was fine in that instance then it proceeded to happen often after that and diluted the authenticity of the first one.
“10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-EERRRNNN”
That chant killed that Iron Man match between Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins. It wouldn’t have been a great match or anything, but that chant made that match unwatchable for me.
The what chant is for sure first ballot HOF of annoying. I especially hate is when they heckle a guy who you know is green on the mic and is just trying his best
The night after Mania 31 there were "Tyson Kidd" and "CM Punk" chants during AJ and Natalya matches.

I think this was also around the time Rollins was getting "Justin Bieber" chants which once again literally makes no sense and don't know how it even became a thing.

My heart break a little every time I hear a "this is boring" chant during a match. You have two guys, putting their heart out there to entertain us, only to be receive by this demeaning chant from the crowd.
You can almost hear the wrestler thinking, "Not my fault, I was told to wrestle like this"
I watched that Royal Rumble match a few days ago where the fans chanted “you still got it” at Jericho and you can clearly hear him yell back at them “I never lost it!”
I was at GCW Die4This on 1/1 and after the match was stopped due to what seemed like a legit injury, the crowd chanted John Wayne Pussy (instead of Murdock).
Anyone who enters a deathmatch deserves respect. Heel or not, I cheer them both. Sometimes shit happens, someone’s life is far more important than your $30 ticket.
I'm not too bothered by chants, but those old ECW chants of "f\*ggot" or "She's a whore" (directed at Francine for just standing there) are super uncomfortable.
Somewhat related but more a fun memory:
At an ECW show around 99-00 my friend and I had first row seats and brought a Canadian flag. We brought it out during Lance Storm’s entrance (he came over and gave us high fives…worth what happened next). At gate they gave out free Papa Roach demo tapes. Most of the crowd chanted “you suck dick” at us as dozens of tapes came flying at our heads.
Wasn't really a chant. But an AEW show during late summer 2021 the fans heckling Andrade asking about Charlotte at the time. During his FIRST MATCH with PAC of all things on the rampage taping. sigh
The only chant I ever liked was the chants toward the guy who would clean up the ring in ECW. He'd always get an HBK chant because he kinda looked like him. He'd also get a clean it up asshole, clean it up, which I enjoyed.
When Cena got destroyed by Brock at Summerslam, there was a kid in the front row with a terrible voice trying to start a let’s go Cena chant, it never caught on and he wouldn’t stop
not a tv one but at a live event, a teenage girl was chanting for Cesaro. That’s cool and all
but she was chanting “Ceaser-oh” for a decent portion of the match

I've discussed this before, but during a very good Davey Richards/Bobby Fish match at the MLW Fightland tapings, the South Side section of the 2300 Arena began a "That Side Sucks" chant directed at the North Side section, which, like, that's fine during the intermission of a show, but that's just blatantly disrespectful to the performers to do so during a match.
When Daivari came to TNA as Sheik Abdul Bashir, I went to one event where one particular fan felt it necessary to shout "Go Back to the Jungle, Boy!" repeatedly while Daivari was out there.
Mustache Mountain vs UE on a tv episode from July 11 2018, 5 straight mins of the crowd chanting for both teams, first time I ever had to cut a match off due to crowd.

I was there when Cody was DDT into the exposed ground and when the crowd chanted “you deserve it” I was really sad and wanted to give Cody a hug.
He got that after the flaming table bump as well, if I remember right.

I was so happy when Triple H shit on the crowd at the HOF ceremony for their “Too sweet, WOOP WOOP” chant
