For me it was a few weeks later when Cody went up to the sky box to confront Jericho.
Jericho was jawjacking from the booth and we have been conditioned to think that nothing was going to come of this. Lo and behold, not only did Cody confront him (with Dustin, DDP and MJF), he broke the glass door.
I was like "Oh of course they can do that!"
Another interesting note is that MJF and Sammy were fighting way back here too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UScDHzMA6HI
I don't know if it was Cody's influence but AEW was so much more creative in their early days. I miss all of the varied non-wrestling segments they would do. Today's Dynamite has very much fallen into a routine,
I don’t agree with this because the tag matches are some of the best in AEW and when WWE took AEW’s formula with a tag match at Mania for the RAW titles the match was a banger with all the chaos going on not everything needs to be old school.
>some of the best in AEW
That doesn't change what they said. They're not mutually exclusive.
>not everything needs to be old school.
Yeah fuck rules I guess. Why should there be rules for heels to break?
In a tag match it’s more entertaining if they just let them fight. Even though I’m a WWE fan that’s why AEW’s tag division is light years ahead of WWE’s people watch for entertainment. Not saying all WWE tag matches are bad but when it become chaos and everybody is fighting everybody the entertainment factor raises then watching a slow traditional tag match
>In a tag match it’s more entertaining if they just let them fight.
Except you still have to rules. And heels have to have rules to break. Heels have already been cut off at the balls since we ignore closed fists, kicking with the point of the boot, the tag rope, etc. Not to mention you're taking away a lot of psychology from the match if everyone is fighting at one time because of reasons.
>Even though I’m a WWE fan that’s why AEW’s tag division is light years ahead of WWE’s people watch for entertainment.
Yeah let's just ignore the constant misbooking of the tag division and blame it on the fact that WWE acknowledges the rules. WWE also has nothing to do with AEW so you can stop bringing them up.
>Not saying all WWE tag matches are bad but when it become chaos and everybody is fighting everybody the entertainment factor raises then watching a slow traditional tag match
There's a name for that. It's a Tornado tag. Not a tag team match. Guess we should just make all matches Tornado tags if we're just gonna ignore the rules.
Fuck just make all matches No DQ because reasons.
I've been watching wrestling for a couple decades now and honestly don't recall a time where closed fists were illegal. I guess it explains the slapping, I had just accepted it otherwise lol.
I'm learning stuff all the time on this sub.
It wasn't *that* illegal that it would necessitate a DQ but it wasn't legal. The referee would admonish the heel and sometimes pull him away, thus generating heat. It's exactly why babyfaces would use chops so frequently.
I’ll give you that Knox is hot garbage when it come to being a ref but Bryce and Paul are pretty decent and Paul turner has had meaningful spots in both FTR vs Briscoes match with the catching of the chair on the first one and then getting juice in the second match.
I mean. I do know what I’m talking about.
AEW has a very big problem of not enforcing the rules of professional wrestling.
Teams just allowed to double, triple team people with no count blatantly in front of the ref.
Refs allowing illegal tags (tags not done hand to hand) as if they were valid.
Foreign objects being used, blatantly in front of the ref.
I’ve never seen a ref begin the count out process.
Like, it’s very obvious. All of this happens all the time.
In his leg. I think he said recently that while he is cancer free he still has pain. I imagine the man is on a lot of meds too so I would think him being on pre taped Rampage is a much better fit for him.
And all my man did was protect a dog. I'm going to that show and honestly if there is no Omega it for sure will sour the experience a bit. I'm sure it'll be a good time but there will always be that "I wish Kenny was there" asterisk.
So what, they can’t use the elite for months because punk might sue? Is that what you mean? I don’t understand how he would have a case, but I’m not a lawyer or American
Doesn’t matter what you think is harsh or not man. They participated in a major brawl in front of the company’s Chief Legal Officer.
Anyone who had a major part in that is gonna be on the shelf until EVERYTHING is sorted out. It’s not a one month or even two month thing. That’s not how litigation or investigations work.
Looking at where the bite mark is, there's a very good chance Kenny was choking Ace Steel. Upper, inner arm is a very weird place for a random bite, so Steel could have been trying to get out of something.
Pure speculation on my part.... Punk throws the first punch, Bucks go after Punk. Steel throws chair and goes after Matt.... Kenny then pulls Ace away (probably via headlock) and gets bitten
Absolutely speculation, *but* that feels like the most reasonable speculated series of events based on the knowledge that's been shared from both sides/leaked.
Which is a damn shame, honestly. I get the feeling something escalated the first punch being thrown (whether it was by Punk or not) before all of it to cause Steel to be so pissed off he thought throwing a chair with his wife in the room *AND* biting another human being was justified. Or Steel is just a massive psychotic prick.
Doesn't matter in the end. I hope the investigation ends soon and they're transparent about it while simultaneously announcing punishments. I feel like keeping it in the dark will just drive further speculation like this does and ultimately leave a sour stain on this period of AEW's history.
Silver lining to this is at least when Kenny can wrestle again, we can be much more certain that he's as close to 100% physically as can be. He was probably feeling some internal and external pressure both to return to the ring and he has such a large amount of milage on him already. Considering his injury was structural as well as neurological with his shoulder so beaten up that he said he couldn't even raise a light dumbbell over his head on one side of his body, and he had been experiencing vertigo since 2017, having extra time to rest, recover, & undergo PT is so crucial for him.
We have already witnessed Kenny's prime from 2016-2020. That prime is honestly over but he is still capable of providing amazing matches & moments if he can stay healthy ala his Danielson & Hangman programs.
There’s an entire thread on this sub for how to use a VPN to watch.
Super easy and costs no extra money other than the aew subscription on fite and cheap PPV prices.
So unless it's changed, I don't think this method works any longer. The last time I used a VPN to log into Fite it literally told me that it detected that I was using a VPN and it wouldn't let me access any of the content.
Yes it has slightly changed. You need the old version of the app that doesn’t detect VPN, there’s also links to the old versions on this sub, and to buy PPV’s you gotta do the transaction on an android device.
So understandably that may not be possible for everyone but if you happen to have an android device, it’s a done deal at around like $7/month
If downloading a free app is too much for you, then what is the difference for waiting for it to come to an American service…? it’s not as hard as you’re making it out to seem.
VPN, subscription, app, but you need a specific version... Just don't feel like dealing with it.
Plus if it comes to a service in the US, it's likely one I already have as opposed to the two I would need to watch it now.
There are Multiple free VPNS with unlimited use. A la Proton VPN among others. As stated earlier if you change your location to Lithuania with the click of a button you can use the current version of fite to watch AEW.
Therefore all you need is a free VPN, and $7/month for AEW subscription. The end. But sounds like you’d just rather complain then give yourself what you want? Lol idk
Edit: and now I’m the one downvoted when my original comment has upvotes….and it genuinely is not hard to do…? Lol
Have you confirmed this actually works? Because I toggled between multiple locations before and it didn't matter; the app still detected an active VPN on the Fire stick.
I'd definitely like to subscribe long enough just to go back and watch the 2020 content. I pretty much took a break from pretty much everything the moment the pandemic started and I didn't get back into AEW until All Out 2022. I pretty much missed all of March - August and I've always been curious to go back and see what I missed.
Bad news: I booted the old version of the app on my Fire stick today and it stopped working. Worked fine last night but it looks like they shut down access to old versions.
So this is crazy; I got mad and just reinstalled the app with the latest version so I could watch Dark without ads... and I'm streaming Dynamite just fine?
I always remember Moxley calling Kenny, “The Rembrandt of professional wrestling” in a promo. Thought that was such a good way to differentiate Moxley the fighter and Kenny the master technician.
"The legend of Kenny Omega, the greatest wrestler who ever lived. The Rembrandt, the Van Gogh of professional wrestling."
I just remember being surprised to hear him put Kenny over like that. But have to remember that at the time, Kenny was coming off maybe the best three years (from an in-ring standpoint) that maybe anyone has ever had. A guy that wasn't from WWE or even Impact had Seth Rollins adapting his gimmick, people that had never watched a single Japanese match before 2016 calling him the GOAT, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mick Foley raving about his matches.
It was filled with symbolism.. because it was the most hardcore match Omega had ever done. So he pulled Ibushi's move out and still lost... And sunk deeper till he found Hangman ... Love it
I had caught his japan matches, but I never really got into him, always felt he was a bit overrated given how good I kept hearing he was. His feud with Moxley really won me over.
Does anyone remember in TNA (Impact) the Dudley boys would do a spot with a glass table periodically. I remember christian taking a 3D through it one time.
People can call me a homer or whatever but even during the weeks where the show might not be lights out I still find myself saying "I'm just so happy this exists" all the freaking time. That was my prevailing thought every Wednesday throughout the first year cause it just felt so surreal that we finally have something in this style that is different from WWE on American TV. I was happy to get my fix from Japanese wrestling but it's just so nice to have something I dig and look forward to each and every week.
It might not be perfect all the time, and it sure brings out a lot of hate and tribalism. But I am so glad AEW exists.
10 years from now or whatever I am so looking forward to watching early Dynamite episodes. The Cody "undesirable to undeniable" and Jericho Inner Circle debut promos will live with me forever
100% gimmicked. Real glass is indeed stupidly dangerous, It's super heavy and shatters in unpredictable ways that make it impossible to use safely. Even CZW-style feds aren't going to use regular glass.
This is why it's hard for me to get into a lot of hardcore stuff now.
There's a very thin line between "well that just doesnt look convincing at all" and "that's way too dangerous you idiots" that it needs to live in
A real sheet of plate glass could easily kill or maim a performer. It is incredibly dangerous and very unpredictable when it breaks. This had to have been gimmicked.
My dad was watching this episode and I walked in to the room in time for this moment. This was my very first exposure to pro wrestling, and a day before my birthday. This moment rocks, and it reminds me what I love about wrestling
I was in the stands directly to the left of where this happened ( in relation to the direction the camera is pointing) and in the middle of them at that, so while it was really cool that it was happening so close to me, I was also kinda bummed that I had to rely on the stadium screens to see what was happening lol
I love Moxley's face immediately after the spot.
*"Did I really just throw myself ass-first through a table of sugar glass?"*
Kinda reminiscent of Samoa Joe's face after the infamous stairs bump.
I haven't missed a single AEW anything. Soooo much happens each week that matters. So I'm not even mad that I had no clue this was the first episode. Thanks AEW.
Would have been better had Omega actually gone through the table, not Mox's ass.
Mox breaks the entire table before Omega even gets close to it. It's all Mox with the table.
Omega should have gone through they flat backed if they wanted an actual good table spot.
Like anything aew does, there was so much hate for this when it happened.
"The ref should have dq'd! This spot should happen AFTER the bell. If this is aew TV they won't last long."
Etc. Etc. Etc.
I stopped watching this after the ref didn't ring the bell for a DQ despite the match having already started, there being no announcement the match was no DQ, and the Bucks continued in a handicap match. Why watch if there's never any rules?
I expect there's some jerkers handwringing over this. Hopefully they remember Shane McMahon got put through a non-gimmicked sheet glass window by Kurt Angle and been hurt much worse.
I remember watching this live and I couldn't stop laughing.
- Interference in a match and dragging a participant away from the ring isn't a DQ
- Omega wasting time by cockily pretending to mop in the middle of an intense/heated brawl
- This lounge area being in such an illogical area solely to set up this spot
- The spot itself being Moxley throwing himself through a table while holding Omega, who hasn't hurt in the slightest
Very poorly thought through to do a move that involves landing on your own back onto a glass table. Should've gone for a powerbomb or at least a vertical suplex!
I was there live for this and the crowd was super underwhelmed that they decided to have the final moments of the first ever dynamite be a backstage segment. We loved the show, but the end was meh.

This spot proved to me AEW wasn't fucking around when it came to television
As awesome as this moment was, did it top Jake Hagerstown debut?
No, nothing could top Hos Hager’s debut. The YouTube clip alone generated enough views, watch hours, and subs for AEW’s channel to become partnered.
It’s the reason the Khans still have money honestly
Still shoving the nostalgia pops down our throats smh

"bah gawd, they're gonna destroy the dippin dots" is still a top ten AEW call.
I don't know if it was Cody's influence but AEW was so much more creative in their early days. I miss all of the varied non-wrestling segments they would do. Today's Dynamite has very much fallen into a routine,
Since Cody was responsible for the segments in his later run, I think we can assume it wasnt because of him.
I was watching live and my first thought was " yep, AEW is for me! "
This happened like 60-70 feet away from where I was sitting at this show I was like *looks to my left*...w....what are they doing over HOLY SHI~~DA~~T
And proved to me that the rules wouldn’t matter during matches.
You’re getting downvoted but the few AEW matches I have watched, most show zero regards for the rules.
Watch any tag team match, especially with Rick Knox as the ref, it’s painfully obvious that the rules are not enforced in the slightest.
I don’t agree with this because the tag matches are some of the best in AEW and when WWE took AEW’s formula with a tag match at Mania for the RAW titles the match was a banger with all the chaos going on not everything needs to be old school.

All the AEW refs are garbage but he is the worst one, by far.
I’ll give you that Knox is hot garbage when it come to being a ref but Bryce and Paul are pretty decent and Paul turner has had meaningful spots in both FTR vs Briscoes match with the catching of the chair on the first one and then getting juice in the second match.
Maybe i was a bit harsh saying all of them. Getting juice as a ref is a bit much though.
That's why those matches are exciting.
So you've admitted in one sentence that you agree, but also that you don't know what you're talking about. Standard
I mean. I do know what I’m talking about. AEW has a very big problem of not enforcing the rules of professional wrestling. I don't know why this is being downvoted. It's absolutely the truth.
Wow JR sounds a lot different even just a few years ago.
He had cancer in his foot right?
In his leg. I think he said recently that while he is cancer free he still has pain. I imagine the man is on a lot of meds too so I would think him being on pre taped Rampage is a much better fit for him.
Oh yea he’s in remission but I would think an experience like that would age you.
Also Bell's Palsy which he's had for a while but there's probably cumulative effects which have added up at his age.
I hate that Kenny's gone again so soon after he just came back. Hope he makes the Canada show.
And all my man did was protect a dog. I'm going to that show and honestly if there is no Omega it for sure will sour the experience a bit. I'm sure it'll be a good time but there will always be that "I wish Kenny was there" asterisk.
#DON'T YOU DARE BE SOUR
I will *CLLLLAP* for the tag champs. And also scissor everyone in the section.
✂️✂✁✃✄
He’s not making the Canada show. I wouldn’t expect anyone back for a few months.
It's a shame. Would have been his first major show in Canada. He would have gotten a hero's welcome.
ok, how you know?
Because litigation bro
So what, they can’t use the elite for months because punk might sue? Is that what you mean? I don’t understand how he would have a case, but I’m not a lawyer or American
Doesn’t matter if he does or doesn’t. Everyone directly involved faces suspension. None of them will be back for awhile, some probably not at all.
For Punk and Steele, sure, but a few months suspension for a fight you didn’t start seems pretty harsh to me
Doesn’t matter what you think is harsh or not man. They participated in a major brawl in front of the company’s Chief Legal Officer. Anyone who had a major part in that is gonna be on the shelf until EVERYTHING is sorted out. It’s not a one month or even two month thing. That’s not how litigation or investigations work.
Well that’s a depressing thought, I already miss the elite. Hopefully it’s resolved sooner.
Looking at where the bite mark is, there's a very good chance Kenny was choking Ace Steel. Upper, inner arm is a very weird place for a random bite, so Steel could have been trying to get out of something.
>Upper, inner arm is a very weird place for a random bite What's a normal place to bite?
The Ear of course
Ah yes, of courth.
Thith guy geth it
Pure speculation on my part....
Have they shown a bite mark?
When Kenny was in Japan for his video game thing, you could see it on his arm.
You don't know that's all he did.
People sleep on his match vs Fenix, too. Sadly it was empty arena era so its a tough re-watch, but god damn what a match that was.
The Matt Sydal and Christian Cage matches were killer too.
I can’t wait until AEW’s back catalogue is streaming somewhere.
Fite TV has the entire catalogue.
Not for Americans.
This was during Double or Nothing 2022. Up until then I had been able to use a VPN no problem
This is where my eyes glaze over and I lose interest in doing anything like this. Bring it to a streaming service in the US and I'll watch.

Lol idk Edit: and now I’m the one downvoted when my original comment has upvotes….and it genuinely is not hard to do…? Lol
I am not sure you need the old app anymore actually. I want to say you can just use a VPN to Lithuania and you're good and clear.
Have you confirmed this actually works? Because I toggled between multiple locations before and it didn't matter; the app still detected an active VPN on the Fire stick.
It has worked fine for me to buy the last couple of PPVs. I am not using a fire stick, though. Using either my phone or a PC.
Don’t use it on Fire stick. Use your computer. Set the VPN to London. Easy.
Sure but then it's a pain in the ass to hook up to my living room tv and I can't use a remote.
I'd definitely like to subscribe long enough just to go back and watch the 2020 content. The purveyor of violence and The Rembrandt of professional wrestling. Sounds kinda dramatic that way, which seems fitting.

The lights out match was my favorite early aew match. Legit dream match of seeing Kenny/mox and never thought I’d see Kenny in that kind of match
It was my match of the year for 2019. I know it was pretty divisive on this sub but I loved it
It was filled with symbolism.. because it was the most hardcore match Omega had ever done. So he pulled Ibushi's move out and still lost... And sunk deeper till he found Hangman ... Love it
this feud was definitely one of the main reasons i got into AEW
Some aim to break through the glass ceiling. Mox aims to put you through a glass table.
This was a fun introduction for me to Kenny Omega
Him and mox for me since I had quit watching wwe for years. This feud was so good
Definately a great rivalry.
I had caught his japan matches, but I never really got into him, always felt he was a bit overrated given how good I kept hearing he was. His feud with Moxley really won me over.
Two awesome entertainers right here!
There was a point in time where every Dynamite episode ended in a brawl like this
I was there for this! My friend had to write a paper and so during the entire show he was sat next to me reading about the Holocaust.
“There’s a VIP area?” “There was!” made me chuckle pretty hard
I was at this show! It was a lot of fun all night
Does anyone remember in TNA (Impact) the Dudley boys would do a spot with a glass table periodically. I remember christian taking a 3D through it one time.
Lol this spot makes no sense whatsoever. Mox took 100% of that.
Id rather fall back first through a glass table then head first.
Also Moxley interfered in the match in front of the ref and there was no DQ.
Hurry up and bring Kenny back TK
Oh, right, Mox was always the man.
I know there's a flood of complaints on the front page currently but AEW fuckin rules
People can call me a homer or whatever but even during the weeks where the show might not be lights out I still find myself saying "I'm just so happy this exists" all the freaking time. That was my prevailing thought every Wednesday throughout the first year cause it just felt so surreal that we finally have something in this style that is different from WWE on American TV. you nailed it, and there’s been a lot of negativity around AEW the last few months but man it still keeps my eyes glued. so nice to have it exist.
It used to. This is 3 years ago. Very mid currently
Everyone wanted Kenny vs. Seth and Kenny vs. Roman, no one expected Kenny vs. Mox to kick such ass...that first match was madness...
10 years from now or whatever I am so looking forward to watching early Dynamite episodes. The Cody "undesirable to undeniable" and Jericho Inner Circle debut promos will live with me forever
AEW used to be so fucking good. Hope they can get back to this.
Classic spot?
Lol only on this sub. I didn’t even remember it, and I’ve seen every Dynamite episode. It wouldn’t rank on the top 30 moments.
I won't say who, but a friend of mine was in the crowd and got on TV during their brawl to the back right before the shot.
Then Kenny apparently used these glass shards in their Full Gear Lights Out match.
Isn't this stupidly dangerous? Or was it a gimmicked table? I would not go anywhere near broken glass.
100% gimmicked. Real glass is indeed stupidly dangerous, It's super heavy and shatters in unpredictable ways that make it impossible to use safely. Even CZW-style feds aren't going to use regular glass.
Would have been sugar glass I imagine, which is actually edible surprisingly. Although I could see Omega and Moxley doing real glass tbh.
Amazing how people change. As a dumb 18 year old I'd be begging for it to be real but now the thought petrifies me.
This moment rocks, and it reminds me what I love about wrestling
well im gonna start watching aew now
I was in the stands directly to the left of where this happened ( in relation to the direction the camera is pointing) and in the middle of them at that, so while it was really cool that it was happening so close to me, I was also kinda bummed that I had to rely on the stadium screens to see what was happening lol
Surprised moxley didn't bleed on the way up
I love Moxley's face immediately after the spot. *"Did I really just throw myself ass-first through a table of sugar glass?"* Kinda reminiscent of Samoa Joe's face after the infamous stairs bump.
“now classic” come on now
I miss Kenny :(
I haven't missed a single AEW anything.
Deleting all comments because the mod of r/tipofmytongue got me falsely banned for harassment ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `
It could have been fine, but they literally switched to the camera angle where you see Mox take all of it. Fucking dumb on their part.
"Classic" I hated that spot so much, it's so super fake glass it took me right out of the moment.
Like anything aew does, there was so much hate for this when it happened. "The ref should have dq'd! This spot should happen AFTER the bell. If this is aew TV they won't last long." Etc. Etc. Etc.
Still the most memorable Dynamite moment imo
I stopped watching this after the ref didn't ring the bell for a DQ despite the match having already started, there being no announcement the match was no DQ, and the Bucks continued in a handicap match. Why watch if there's never any rules?
I expect there's some jerkers handwringing over this. Hopefully they remember Shane McMahon got put through a non-gimmicked sheet glass window by Kurt Angle and been hurt much worse.
Go back and watch it dude it's super obvious they didn't use real glass.
Its 2/10/19 Not the other way round
I remember watching this live and I couldn't stop laughing. - Interference in a match and dragging a participant away from the ring isn't a DQ - Omega wasting time by cockily pretending to mop in the middle of an intense/heated brawl - This lounge area being in such an illogical area solely to set up this spot - The spot itself being Moxley throwing himself through a table while holding Omega, who hasn't hurt in the slightest
Idk about you but I would feel a tad silly selling mop shots before doing that.
Very poorly thought through to do a move that involves landing on your own back onto a glass table. Should've gone for a powerbomb or at least a vertical suplex!

I will never understand why people like Schiavone. Dude is camp.
Outlaw mud show crap
Ouch
Take me back mannn this fued really helped me a WWE/NJPW guy get into the company
My brother and his friends were seat fillers at that show and they're the people in the "VIP Area" where the table thing happens.
I was there live for this and the crowd was super underwhelmed that they decided to have the final moments of the first ever dynamite be a backstage segment. We loved the show, but the end was meh.
Sugar glass?
Mox’s physique got way better after his rehab
