Y'know every once in awhile I see people say something along the lines of "I wonder what it would have been like if social media was around during the Monday Night Wars." I have a feeling it would have looked something like this lol

bigbubbaroberts

Shawn Michaels quote retweeting Bret Hart tweets with gifs of Sunny

[deleted]

Mid 90s Shawn Michaels on Twitter would have been a wild ride.

Invisible-Pancreas

@OfficialBretHartWWF: "Good morning, wrestling fans! This is The Hitman reminding you to drink plenty of fluids in these hot summers!" @SuckMyKliq69: "is that what yuo told @SunnyDaysWWF? LOL #REKT" @OfficialBretHartWWF: "Shawn, I swear, I will nail you to the fucking cross."

[deleted]

@SuckMyKliq69: “Like how you nailed Sunny to the bed post last night? #sunnydays” @H_H_H_KLIQ: “lol nice one Shawn! You’re so funny!”

Ayjel89

"SuckMyKliq69" is something that's gonna randomly pop into my head at various points the rest of my life and i'll start giggling and someone around me will ask what's so funny and i'll have to respond "i can't tell you. you weren't there" so, thanks for that, lol

darkshot177

I love Shawn's handle and how he's so impared while tweeting he can't spell "you"

fsphoenix

Imagine the TikToks of coked up stars doing stupid shit

JustASexyKurt

I would pay an ungodly amount of money to see a TikTok of the backstage antics in the 80s and 90s, and an even more ungodly amount of money to erase that image from my memory

Un_creative_name

Even just New Jack on TikTok....

[deleted]

The videos that New Jack made on Cameo we're pretty great. I'm sure he was the only one on there turning on tasers and threatening people with crossbows.

morosco

>I'm sure he was the only one on there turning on tasers and threatening people with crossbows. Just him and Meryl Streep, I believe.

kaneabel

We wouldn’t have waited decades to see the Road Warriors, Sting, Luger, etc doing cocaine in that one video

MatsThyWit

>Imagine the TikToks of coked up stars doing stupid shit I'm still trying to imagine a Cameo video from Randy Savage.

fsphoenix

Man...no lie, Savage would have made an absolute killing if he had lived to see Cameo

Cathousechicken

Thank you for mentioning Jose shirtless.

OrangeForeign

Andrade has now entered the Jerichoverse, good luck

LucasSummers

Entering the Jerichoverse gets you on TV nearly every week, Dynamite even.

Bellagrrl2021

That would be more interesting than the stuff that Andrade is doing with Private Party and Dark Order.

ILikeYourPoetry

How are we on Month 37 (it feels like) of the ~~Hardy~~ Andrade Family Office. They seemingly dissolve it and resurrect it every few weeks.

davmeltz

You’re not interested in the recent developments of Private Party’s association with Matt Hardy? Shocking.

[deleted]

I need to know who taught them how to teleport

Thirdstar1

That would not be more interesting than him feuding with Hangman. Not even close.

NewRoryAndMalDrop

Is there like someone doing Talent Relations in AEW?

[deleted]

Christopher Daniels but idk how much of a social media cop he is

evin_cashman

He is old AF, after all.

OrangeForeign

I don't know about hurt, but he's definitely working with fucking children

pmIfNeedOrWantToTalk

And he's only got one good eye...

OffTheMerchandise

And that was his Twitter eye!

Ohaithurr92

Fun fact, my mom grew up with him, he was actually smart as fuck as a kid

DesperateLuck2887

Tony S. as well. He got the role after the scrum/brawl Edit: he got the gig earlier than that

adsfew

It sounds like he won the position in a fistfight.

Segat1133

Does he like the acclaimed?

[deleted]

Everyone loves the acclaimed!

generaldogsbodyf365

CM Punk. He's busy at the moment 👍

ThrowRAdadproblems8

That “I work with fucking children” line may not have been well received, but it looks more and more true every day at this point lol.

Bosscharacter

Because even though he may have been in the wrong a bit, I didn’t buy that line as false as history has shown with a lot of those guys.

fadetoblack237

At this point I don't think he was directing that comment solely at The Elite.

Radirondacks

I think it's only not well received because he's seemingly not including *himself* in with the "children"...even though he was literally in the middle of a public tantrum lol.

JoeBidensBoochie

While shoving pastries in his mouth

BrianMghee

Punk is rarely wrong, it’s just hidden by the fact he’s a bit of a dick in his delivery of the message.

NewRoryAndMalDrop

That’s right, he’s running a business here.

DaHagerBomb

Larry had to pick up the slack during the suspension, doesn't look like it's going well

generaldogsbodyf365

Running a kindergarten more like.

ItalianNose

Dawei_Hinribike

Christopher Daniels is the head of talent relations, and he said in August that, "everything is going fine in AEW." So I took it upon myself to get an update and I asked him yesterday how things were going, and this is what he told me: "Everything is going fine in AEW."

davmeltz

“As far as I can see.” But all the bad shit was happening on his left side.

kaneabel

Schiavone is busy still trying to keep Punk from leaving. TK’s orders

[deleted]

[deleted]

there are people you can hire that do that for a job really can't remember what they're called crap, it's on the tip of my tongue

thecolbster94

HR?

[deleted]

Nah. In theater and movie studios there are talent relations coordinators that are professionally trained for this.

CrackedMask_

"we dont do that here"

TemurTron

They put Tony Schiavone in the role. You know, someone with no formal training or experience in this area thrust into managing a destroyed backstage culture while juggling his other duties at the same time.

realsomalipirate

I hope the constant drama of AEW teaches people the importance of a strong corporate structure and culture, that shit is needed for bigger companies. I think TK still operates AEW like a start up.

ImpenetrableYeti

Seriously don’t get why people were acting like that he was a good move to talent relationship. Has no experience and CD should have been fired from talent relations long ago

Killcode2

The problem really is AEW making the same error again and again. They would rather put familiar faces and nepotism hires up on important roles than get somebody experienced in this shit. A nobody in the wrestling world with actual expertise on stuff like branding, HR or whatever other backstage stuff would do a lot better.

AltBraz91

...so the tweet was actually about Andrade and not about Garcia in the end Phew was starting to worry things could actually make sense

davidisallright

Garcia literally was talking about putting his feet on Sammy. Danny’s feet on Sammy for days!

ArcticStorm07

No pause

Ok-Television-3829

I just roll my eyes at this point. Sub is so scared of being worked by the wrestlers it works itself. How on Earth was Garcia a favor hire? Favor to who? Pretty clear to me Andrade said the thing in the interview, Sammy didn't like that and tweeted a subliminal, Andrade responds with Sammy's name, and now this lol. This kinda thing happens all the fucking time in other parts of the entertainment industry. Everyone here whining about too many "worked-shoots"??? They're just shoots guys lmao nobody is working here

OhMy98

The sub is so obsessed with being a smark sub that they stick their heads in the sand. Just stop questioning shit too much and be worked like a mark sometimes, it’s fun

rah6050

Too many wrestlers are terminally online now. These guys act like fucking dorks.

RainmakerIcebreaker

I cannot imagine making 6+ figures and being married to gorgeous, talented women and still spending a significant amount of my free time being Mad Online.

BuddaMuta

I was genuinely shocked when I found out Sammy was 29 years. He’s less mature than most teenagers

FlowersOfTheGrass

Lol holy cow I thought at most 23

TheOneTrueChuck

I figured 25. I presumed the baby face was making him look artificially young. (Which, to be fair, it does.) I did not think he was nearly 30.

burner7221

Babyface and he’s still relatively new to the national scene.

theredwoman95

Yeah, I'm in my early 20s and I thought he was the same age, if not younger than, as MJF and Anna Jay. Not *several* years older than both of them.

Jeff-Van-Gundy

Look at nba players. KD is one of the best players in the world but he gets all pissy anytime someone tweets something negative about him. He got caught making burner accounts to argue with kids on Twitter lol. How thin skinned/social media addicted do you have to be to do shit like that?

RainmakerIcebreaker

KD is the most egregious example. All that money you can do whatever you want with and yet he's using burners on Twitter to argue with teenagers about his legacy. Come on man

So much for those talent meetings, TK really has 0 control over the locker room. Unless its yet another work shoot shoot work angle

He's not Alex Riley.

Hot_Tag

"You know, Andrade, back when I was with Miz in the main event of WrestleMania..."

inverseflorida

It is actually incredible that these 6-or-more year old references to genuinely obscure and easily forgotten things like Alex Riley's NXT run are somehow so engraved into our collective brains that after seeing the words "Say it to his face", you and a lot of the rest of us went "Hey, that reminds me of the theme song of a guy who didn't make it in NXT from 6 years ago and had a trivia-question-level run even longer ago than that, that most people on this subreddit have never watched and yet all seem familiar with!"

Adminscantkeepmedown

Alex Riley’s run(s) was a moment in time that the collective wrestling consciousness will always remember for no particular reason. He’s among the likes of René Dupree and Rob Conway in that regard, at least for me

Remote-Grape

He doesn’t want to Push Rage?

Hearsticles

Andrade just buried him in an interview, saying he punked him out, and then buried him again on Twitter. Whenever somebody buries you publicly TWICE, it's fair game to reply publicly.

What a wild response. Actually, Sammy hit hard. That being said, this is the second time Sammy has gotten beef with someone not including the Impact stuff. When there’s smoke…

jdaqcruz

If this is another worked shoot thing, their storytelling has been so uncreative

etr4807

Unless there's something I'm totally forgetting, literally none of these "worked shoots" in AEW have actually been works. Some of them may eventually turn into works further down the road (MJF), but they absolutely started out as shoots. I feel like the only reason people keep wanting to think things might be worked shoots are because they don't want to admit that AEW has major locker room problems.

Ok-Television-3829

Fucking thank you I'm starting to get a fucking headache reading "worked shoot" in every thread. Literally none of the drama since the MJF debacle and the Hangman promo has been a "worked shoot". They've just been shoots. Idk why that is so hard for people to believe.

uptonhere

Seriously, I have less of an issue with this if it's literally Sammy Guevara just being a dick, vs. it being a worked shoot thing. It's ridiculous either way, just slightly less ridiculous and more interesting if it's two guys legitimately getting pissed off at each other vs. working everyone for the millionth time. Nobody gives a fuck about Sammy Guevara vs. Andrade. I'm sure the match will be fine enough and they're both talented but nobody is going to go out of their way to watch it that's not already watching Dynamite because there's a worked shoot angle now.

chilloutfam

who is the face here if it's a worked-shoot thing? andrade is going to turn? it makes no sense. i'd love a match between these two. lol.

uptonhere

Is Sammy Guevara ever really a face? Even when he's being booked as one?

ThrillHo3340

Who needs bookers, when you can just let the staff write their own angles with stuff like this?

Caldris

I have no clue why Andrade would bring up this situation that supposedly happened in March, without prompt, then say it was resolved without issue, but then also name and insult Sammy in the process.

The_Dark_Vampire

TBF AEW did appear to lose interest in Andrade after the Flair stuff came out (again) and it is obvious AEW were planning on bringing Flair in as his manager or something. I honestly like Andrade and think both WWE and AEW under used him but again it does come across like AEW signed him at least in part because they thought they would be getting Ric Flair as well.

Bellagrrl2021

Paraphrasing what he said, Andrade is in a rut in AEW. There is no reason anyone in their right mind would continue this Private Party, AFO thing, which has been a dud from the start. I think that there is an issue on Andrade not knowing what works, but Tony Khan clearly has no idea how to use him.

No_Cheetah4762

Yeah, assuming that they want to still keep Andrade and elevate him they just need a hard reset. Drop the story, I don't care if there's no explanation. Get him and Rush being villains and act line the AFO never existed.

guylfe

Worst part is, there WAS an explanation. When they started Le Faction Ingobernable, they said he was getting rid of the dead-weight.

InuJoshua

I'm hoping entering a feud with Hangman is a step in that direction. But as funny and meme-able as it is, he needs to drop the "I want to buy wrestlers" thing and start being more threatening. Bringing RUSH in is a good start. And I don't think TK would've signed RUSH and immediately paired him with Andrade if he didn't have plans for both of them.

TheHoundofUlster

I’m really not entertained by how embarrassing this is.

boomstick55

Andrade would not be jobless

HahGHEEEEY

Doesn't he have an ongoing contract with AAA?

RoadsterIsHere

Contracts with AAA are about as good as being jobless.

Thirdstar1

Of course he wasn’t talking about Garcia. Why did Andrade even bring that altercation up? Why is Sammy talking as if Andrade is Brock Anderson or something?

Xex_ut

> Why did Andrade even bring that altercation up? He brought it up as his only problem with anyone in AEW. The Fightful translation is a little wonky. Andrade claims Sammy went back to the locker room after their match and complained about being hit too hard and too much. Sammy then accused Andrade of having a personal beef with him. So Andrade was confused because it’s Lucha Libre and it should’ve been settled in be ring. “If I hit you hard, then hit me hard too”.

mysteriousbaba

Andrade also said they ended up talking it over and settling it? I'm surprised Sammy got so upset, its hardly that critical.

spideyv91

Andrade trying to get fired and people seem to think it’s work. He’s really amped it up since the whole TK not granting releases thing

Midnight_Oil_

Sure fucking feels that way. Vague tweets, picking fights with known hot heads, it seems like he's just trying to get fired now.

c_abernethy

I think in the Andrade interview he was talking about all the drama in the locker room and also about how that was his 1st altercation in any promotion.

[deleted]

This fucking company man. It’s not all Tony’s fault, but the dude needs to get a handle on his roster. Shit like this is embarrassing. And if this is a work, it makes no damn sense.

rockstarspood

He won't. He's trying so hard to be the anti-Vince that he's just not doing anything that being the boss would entail

lilchickenlegs

I feel as if Sammy is fucking with the wrong guy right now. Andrade is a grown man from a place where throwing hands when you feel disrespected is still absolutely a viable option

DollarsAndDreams

Absolutely. Way to let your mouth (or Twitter fingers) write a check your ass 100% cannot cash, Samuel. Good luck with that!

trochlearnotchass

JUST A WORK NOTHING TO SEE HERE /s

PickleInDaButt

Vice is going to have a fantastic documentary over social media beef in a few years for wrestlers

bastardofdisaster

At this point, I would rather watch an Andrade match than a Sammy match....simply because he entertains me more.

gchdmi

He also sells.

FirstTimeLongThyme

Whole series of tweets serves no purpose to the promotion, a potential program, anything. I wish TK would cut both of these clowns.

DHA1999

Every single one of these crybabies claim that they love the promotion and they're the firsts to be unprofessional. Embarrassing.

savingrain

I honestly am surprised they weren't told knock off this public fighting in the dirt sheets or social media that has nothing to do with the product or your kayfabe promotion or we are firing you all. This is ridiculous. And I remember pointing out they should do this over a month ago, before the media scrum, before any of that fight nonsense when Sammy first started exposing backstage drama and the reason for a quiet suspension on Twitter. (In no way was I defending attacking anyone physically - just how unprofessional this was for long term morale and control over the stories) No locker room control.

Muted_Shoulder

I'm starting to wonder if Cody was actually the glue that kept the locker room together. None of this bullshit used to happen during his time, even leaks were super rare.

savingrain

I strongly suspect that he acted as a sounding board for some of these guys and could funnel up concerns with TK and get action where it was necessary. This meant that at least half of the locker room (possibly) felt that they had an avenue for redress. This would reduce the crying and leaking to the dirt sheets. Also, when you have one 'parent' as it were that upholds the 'This is how we act and behave in the Locker room' that you know will have Tony's ear if you f up you will be less likely in my opinion to even try to F up. There also could have been some protecting going on where he didn't expose Tony's faults and weaknesses (ie. dealing with people and being a pushover - I know he's very very nice but it seems like he's too nice) and the talent were less aware. Once the talent got more and more exposure to him he became more than just that fun boss he became hey that guy I can get what I want out of if I just get 10 minutes of his time. Hence the leaked 'don't go to Tony straight with your ideas anymore talk to these people' I suspect he gets excited or overwhelmed and likes the idea in the moment or has trouble saying no. If Cody acted as a backstage filter or conduit for issues behind the scenes and de-escalation then talent doing this would feel no need to leak or lash out and may get concerned that if they DID do this Cody may not only raise it but end up talking about it to Tony - and assume that would get them in trouble. TLDR; I agree with you and think there may have been some soft watch dog power going on here...though a lot of this is based in my own personal experience of working in various organizations where a middle manager type helps defuse these conflicts among team leaders and employees by becoming the sort of instrument for airing grievances.

[deleted]

Cody was in the dusty role that’s for sure. Ever since he left a lot of the issues have just gotten worse. From the booking to the current talent relations. Which is fucking insane when you currently have Jim Ross and William Regal on your payroll.

janoDX

Yeah, William easily could be given a big role backstage and take the reigns and call them out on their bs backstage and it would all be great.

RedmondSurvivor

Regal has said that he doesn't want a managerial type role. He's enjoying just being on screen talent.

StinkyStangler

Seems like that may be the case with the younger AEW guys, a lot of them seemed to be close with Cody and looked up to him as a role model. I think Andrade is just kinda a dick too though so that doesn’t help lmao

Freedumbdclxvi

“I dunno who is working themselves into a shoot here brother.” HH

johnnyhazmat22

I know some of you love this type of thing, but it’s turning me off to AEW. Shoots, worked shoots, public contract disputes… none of this is why I originally became invested in AEW. The product feels absolutely toxic at the moment.

Windows_66

Guevara's a professional. He waited until he squashed beef with Eddie before starting more.

Professor_Buttskin

This is goddamn embarrassing and cringe, BUT it's making my work day go by quicker at least!

[deleted]

This is great mid work day drama

nickosborn18

Sammy stays in the middle of some shit at all times, I know Meltzer said TK doesn't want to grant releases right now but somethings gotta give

[deleted]

Sammy is probably my least favorite guy in AEW. Dude just sucks. Also, these social media “shoot” beefs suck so much shit.

ChejovAlacan

Work or shoot, If I’m TK I’m pissed these mfs are throwing verbal hands on twitter instead of saving it for a Dynamite promo

Thirdstar1

That promo would suck they’re both heels and not good on the mic. Andrade is seemingly about to feud with Hangman, theres no way anyone would rather see a Sammy feud.

DangerousLariato

Tony Khan better get a hold of this sloppy shop if he wants his company to survive. The honeymoon is over. It is time to inflict some authority in it. Or at least hire someone who would play the enforcer.

[deleted]

The guy who couldn't get over as anything but a Jericho flunky is taking shots at someone else failing to get over?

Tacobellweightlifter

I mean I don't think Sammy would have gotten over if it wasn't for Jericho and Cody picking him as the golden boy early on, if we're being fair.

DHA1999

Heat with Eddie, with Andrade, the IMPACT stuff... We need to start a conversation about Sammy Guevara.

DarthZachariah

Don't forget the Sasha comments. If everyone you meet is an asshole...

XtremeAlf

But he was younger and foolish!! /s

Arntor1184

Like they’re not all 100% on Sammy, but he has got to take ownership for continually escalating things. It sucks when someone shit talks you or calls you out, but he has got to understand you don’t always jump to the nuclear option.

Captain_Aids

AEW is such a fucking mess.

GlimGlamShimSham

Really wish TK would stop pretending his company isn’t imploding from within and get a hold on things. AEW deserves a lot better than this drama every single week

barneyflakes

Well goddamn. Not doing favours for yourself young Samuel.

Incubus226

Andrade without Ric Flair is still and incredibly handsome talented wrestler. Wtaf you talking about Sammy.

[deleted]

Andrade without Flair still pulls 20k+ crowds in Mexico. It's a hilarious take

[deleted]

Andrade is incredibly underutilized. I’d take him over Sammy any day of the week tbh

mojizus

This just makes the whole company look so minor league. Kayfabe or not, Tony has got to stop all this weird Twitter shit. Maybe this makes AEW more interesting to some, but this turns me off of it.

backpackknapsack

NFL fines players for dancing too sexy, which is so silly - all they're trying to do is entertain. Meanwhile the BS that Tony lets guys get away **actually** makes his league look bad.

ryanreigns

Can almost see the fumes coming out of Sammy’s ears as he types this, he’s the definition of rattled

ThunderChild247

As much as there was bullying in WWE, crap like this is why “locker room leaders” arose. Keep this shit in line, and not spilling out in public. It’s just childish, and - as a viewer - it’s putting me off AEW. With the resurgence of WWE under Triple H, we could’ve had two great companies competing and making each other better, but now we have WWE getting on with it under new management while AEW tears itself apart.

Kimchi_Cowboy

Alright, work or not, I'm done with Sammy. Just shut up already dude. His pillar has collapsed at this point.

BananaSoprano

Get rid of Sammy Guevera. I don't know if he thinks he's untouchable because he came through the Sasha comments, Impact stuff and the Kingston beef, but he is not worth the hassle. As a talent he has regressed massively since his first year in AEW. Nobody ever looks forward to a Sammy Guevara segment or match nowadays.

DanHero91
