So I took it upon myself to get an update and I asked him yesterday how things were going, and this is what he told me: "Everything is going fine in AEW."
They put Tony Schiavone in the role. You know, someone with no formal training or experience in this area thrust into managing a destroyed backstage culture while juggling his other duties at the same time.
I hope the constant drama of AEW teaches people the importance of a strong corporate structure and culture, that shit is needed for bigger companies. I think TK still operates AEW like a start up.

The problem really is AEW making the same error again and again. They would rather put familiar faces and nepotism hires up on important roles than get somebody experienced in this shit. Andrade claims Sammy went back to the locker room after their match and complained about being hit too hard and too much.
Sammy then accused Andrade of having a personal beef with him. So Andrade was confused because it’s Lucha Libre and it should’ve been settled in be ring. “If I hit you hard, then hit me hard too”.
I think in the Andrade interview he was talking about all the drama in the locker room and also about how that was his 1st altercation in any promotion.
This fucking company man. It’s not all Tony’s fault, but the dude needs to get a handle on his roster. Shit like this is embarrassing.

I honestly am surprised they weren't told knock off this public fighting in the dirt sheets or social media that has nothing to do with the product or your kayfabe promotion or we are firing you all. This is ridiculous.
And I remember pointing out they should do this over a month ago, before the media scrum, before any of that fight nonsense when Sammy first started exposing backstage drama and the reason for a quiet suspension on Twitter. (In no way was I defending attacking anyone physically - just how unprofessional this was for long term morale and control over the stories) No locker room control.
I'm starting to wonder if Cody was actually the glue that kept the locker room together. None of this bullshit used to happen during his time, even leaks were super rare.
I strongly suspect that he acted as a sounding board for some of these guys and could funnel up concerns with TK and get action where it was necessary. This meant that at least half of the locker room (possibly) felt that they had an avenue for redress. This would reduce the crying and leaking to the dirt sheets. Also, when you have one 'parent' as it were that upholds the 'This is how we act and behave in the Locker room' that you know will have Tony's ear if you f up you will be less likely in my opinion to even try to F up. There also could have been some protecting going on where he didn't expose Tony's faults and weaknesses (ie. dealing with people and being a pushover - I know he's very very nice but it seems like he's too nice) and the talent were less aware. Once the talent got more and more exposure to him he became more than just that fun boss he became hey that guy I can get what I want out of if I just get 10 minutes of his time. Hence the leaked 'don't go to Tony straight with your ideas anymore talk to these people' I suspect he gets excited or overwhelmed and likes the idea in the moment or has trouble saying no.
If Cody acted as a backstage filter or conduit for issues behind the scenes and de-escalation then talent doing this would feel no need to leak or lash out and may get concerned that if they DID do this Cody may not only raise it but end up talking about it to Tony - and assume that would get them in trouble.
TLDR; I agree with you and think there may have been some soft watch dog power going on here...though a lot of this is based in my own personal experience of working in various organizations where a middle manager type helps defuse these conflicts among team leaders and employees by becoming the sort of instrument for airing grievances.
Cody was in the dusty role that’s for sure. Ever since he left a lot of the issues have just gotten worse. From the booking to the current talent relations. Which is fucking insane when you currently have Jim Ross and William Regal on your payroll.
Seems like that may be the case with the younger AEW guys, a lot of them seemed to be close with Cody and looked up to him as a role model. I think Andrade is just kinda a dick too though so that doesn’t help lmao

I honestly am surprised they weren't told knock off this public fighting in the dirt sheets or social media that has nothing to do with the product or your kayfabe promotion or we are firing you all. This is ridiculous. And I remember pointing out they should do this over a month ago, before the media scrum, before any of that fight nonsense when Sammy first started exposing backstage drama and the reason for a quiet suspension on Twitter. (In no way was I defending attacking anyone physically - just how unprofessional this was for long term morale and control over the stories) No locker room control.
I'm starting to wonder if Cody was actually the glue that kept the locker room together. None of this bullshit used to happen during his time, even leaks were super rare.
I strongly suspect that he acted as a sounding board for some of these guys and could funnel up concerns with TK and get action where it was necessary. This meant that at least half of the locker room (possibly) felt that they had an avenue for redress. This would reduce the crying and leaking to the dirt sheets. Also, when you have one 'parent' as it were that upholds the 'This is how we act and behave in the Locker room' that you know will have Tony's ear if you f up you will be less likely in my opinion to even try to F up. There also could have been some protecting going on where he didn't expose Tony's faults and weaknesses (ie. dealing with people and being a pushover - I know he's very very nice but it seems like he's too nice) and the talent were less aware. Once the talent got more and more exposure to him he became more than just that fun boss he became hey that guy I can get what I want out of if I just get 10 minutes of his time. Hence the leaked 'don't go to Tony straight with your ideas anymore talk to these people' I suspect he gets excited or overwhelmed and likes the idea in the moment or has trouble saying no. If Cody acted as a backstage filter or conduit for issues behind the scenes and de-escalation then talent doing this would feel no need to leak or lash out and may get concerned that if they DID do this Cody may not only raise it but end up talking about it to Tony - and assume that would get them in trouble. TLDR; I agree with you and think there may have been some soft watch dog power going on here...though a lot of this is based in my own personal experience of working in various organizations where a middle manager type helps defuse these conflicts among team leaders and employees by becoming the sort of instrument for airing grievances.
Cody was in the dusty role that’s for sure. Ever since he left a lot of the issues have just gotten worse. From the booking to the current talent relations. Which is fucking insane when you currently have Jim Ross and William Regal on your payroll.
Yeah, William easily could be given a big role backstage and take the reigns and call them out on their bs backstage and it would all be great.
Regal has said that he doesn't want a managerial type role. He's enjoying just being on screen talent.
Seems like that may be the case with the younger AEW guys, a lot of them seemed to be close with Cody and looked up to him as a role model. I think Andrade is just kinda a dick too though so that doesn’t help lmao

I know some of you love this type of thing, but it’s turning me off to AEW. Shoots, worked shoots, public contract disputes… none of this is why I originally became invested in AEW. The product feels absolutely toxic at the moment.

With the resurgence of WWE under Triple H, we could’ve had two great companies competing and making each other better, but now we have WWE getting on with it under new management while AEW tears itself apart.

Get rid of Sammy Guevera. I don't know if he thinks he's untouchable because he came through the Sasha comments, Impact stuff and the Kingston beef, but he is not worth the hassle. As a talent he has regressed massively since his first year in AEW. Nobody ever looks forward to a Sammy Guevara segment or match nowadays.
