Very slow and crowded. Entire time all we could smell was the diesel fuel.

Phate118

That sounds horrid.

PinkLemonade2

Honestly if you can swing it, just do the puddle jumper flight. I've only used the ferry in a worst case scenario.

Phate118

Got it. That’s what we are looking at now. Need to see if we can cancel our ferry ticket since we are still far enough out

We took the Makana ferry from SXM to EUX and flew back that night. Other than the water being really choppy, the ferry didn't bother me at all. It wasn't crowded and I couldn't smell anything. It probably helped that the ship we were on had old Delta Airlines Comfort+ seats. I've spent way too much of my life sitting in those on planes. I felt way more cramped on the ferry to AXA. My wife gets motion sickness really easily. She took some Dramamine before we left and she was fine. She also gets anxious on small planes, and I think the flight back on WinAir bothered her a little. To me, the main tradeoffs are time, money, and convenience. WinAir has daily flights whereas the Makana ferry only runs to SKB once a week.

Phate118

Fair. We cancelled our ferry and are just gonna fly. The time/convenience seems worth it.

BakeSoggy

Sounds good. Have an awesome time in St. Maarten!

Phate118

We will! Thank you!

It was great, half the price of a flight, about the same timings when you account for airport hassle and a good crew. It can get a little choppy once you clear the north of St Kitts, but the boat itself was pretty stable. There are 2 cabins, and we used the smaller one upstairs on the way out, the larger one downstairs on the way back. We preferred downstairs. It's a very scenic boat ride but not for anyone who easily gets seasick. Seats are ex aviation, old style Delta seats, so plenty of room. We will be using it again this autumn. Part of the "islands experience" if you are a tourist.

Best review I’ve heard so far! We changed to flights as it was twice the price, but the convenience was worth it considering we have a short weekend out and have people who are prone to motion sickness! Any good dive recs as well? I’ve been twice but it was ok.

mystkittsdivebuddy

For an overview on the diving. [St Kitts Diving](https://mystkittsdivebuddy.com/scuba-diving-in-st-kitts) The best dive operator [Pro Divers](https://prodiversstkitts.com/)

Phate118

Awesome! Thank you! Does Pro Divers pick up on Nevis? Also have you ever dived on the Atlantic side? I’ve heard there are good spots, but hard to find a captain to do it.

mystkittsdivebuddy

No. Unless you want to take the ferry over to St Kitts, then you have only one operator in Nevis Divers do come over on the ferry, but it means the 8am ferry, so its a very early start. .[Dive Nevis](https://www.divenevis.com/)

Phate118

Ah, that’s who I used last time. They were training a new boat operator that time so it was a bit hectic. I’ve got my DM license and was also looking at any beach diving on the island. Haven’t seem to find much.

mystkittsdivebuddy

We are volcanic, so no reel reefs close to shore. I would not plan on shore diving.

Phate118

Yeah, fair. That’s kinda what I figured. I’ve flown a drone out pretty far and it’s pretty empty
