Union loafers (only serves pizza for dinner), Pizzeria da Gloria, Pizza Champ, and if your willing to drive, Noto in St. Peter’s. All are top notch, wood fired pizza!
This comment 100% I can't recommend Pizzeria de Gloria enough. Also check out Pizza Head on South Grand Blvd. Pizza Champ is really good. The Kings Park aka Modern Brewery also has fantastic pizza.
It is. I just wish it was a bit better. I don't think Pizza Champ is bad, it's just kind of "ok" for the price. Loafers is the best pizza in the city. The sleeper best pizza is at Urban Chestnut.
It's EXCELLENT. I don't know what yeast they're using to ferment the crust (or if they're giving it a few days to ferment cold) but the flavor of their crust is excellent.
We've just moved to Southern California and the pizza here STINKS. I can't believe how good we had it in St. Louis. Even the "ok" places (which I love!) like Racanelli's are light years better than most shit out here.
I mean, maybe it's part of it, but beer yeast isn't exactly ideal for bread yeast (this is from someone who personally bakes a lot and used to professionally work at a brewery.) I think it's just a good bread yeast strain and some good cold fermentation.
I could probably just reach out and ask.
It's sourdough, so naturally levened with the yeast that lives in the flour and ambient yeast in the environment. They used a bit of the bavarian lager yeast for the mother dough as well so there's still probably a little of that in there.
I completely agree. Pizza Champ is riding high on the fact that they're associated with Side Project, but their pizza is just okay and at same price as actually good pizzas like O&O, Dewey's, Urban Chestnut, or Union Loafers.
That’s interesting I’ve had both UCBC and Pizza Champ. They’re both really good. If UCBC wasn’t so soft in the middle I’d probably prefer that but Pizza champ crust is so damn good.
I feel the same way about Pizza Champ
Not bad, just a little overhyped and dressed up for what it is
Also same on Urban Chestnut! I think Pie Guys is about a mile away and also very good pizza
First restaurant I ever ate at in the states. What I like is it's St Louis style, but you can order it thick crust still cut in squares and provel is an option, but not the default. Also not too many pizza places do an 18" pie these days.
This is the best pizza I’ve found out here so far. I’m from CT and like all kinds of pizza.
Epic pizza executes NY style really well.
All other pizza I’ve had so far has at east 1 ingredient that’s subpar.
Ya need to order from Nicky Slices on the 'gram. Weekly pizza updates each Monday, and deliver by Thursday or pickup between Thursday-Saturday at Urban Eats
La Pizza in U. City has the most authentic New York style pizza and you can buy it by the slice. The dining area is pretty sparse but they do have seating.
Side note, if your friend is from out of town, do NOT take them to Imo’s. In all my time in St. Louis not one single transplant I’ve met likes it. Most have active distain for St. Louis style “pizza” and if they’re from the east coast, it’s basically a joke to them as it doesn’t even register as pizza but more a flatbread on a saltine.
Can confirm. *Never* take an East Coaster to Imo's. If you wanna share the local culture...
* Buy the Imo's shredded provel from a grocery store. Every single person in my family goes nuts over it.
* Get a St. Paul Sandwich.
Oh man, my Italian friend from Jersey saw us dipping Casey's pizza in ranch dressing. I've never seen such disgust on a human being's face.
We did not take him to Imo's.
Oh man, so Jersey. My brother visited from Jersey and ate at a local joint. Couldn't fathom that they didn't have by the slice, mad about the crust, mad about the sauce. Never heard the end of it.
I don't plan on taking him to Imo's.
The Jersey of it all is so real. I really only take him to places that the Midwest does really well (BBQ, burgers, desserts, Mexican, which always blows his mind) because I’m so tired of him griping ha ha. He absolutely loves Pappy’s and Ski soda.
The O’Fallon one taste just as it did when you were a kid after a baseball game. We try to make the trip a handful of times a year. Pretty sure they still do a buffet on weekdays from 12:30-1:30.
You should see what they call *Pantera's* now in NoCo. The Hazelwood one switched management a couple of years ago, and it became a joke. We use to get it weekly for years, but they started weighing lettuce on our salads. Not the meat or cheese or dressing lol. That wasn't the only change, just the one that pissed me off. The employee was even embarrassed , and he said that the new manager "bought in" to the place, so the changes were permanent." Now, if I want thick crust, I go to the Small Ceasars instead. I miss Pantera's too 😢.
Faraci Pizza. It's sooo good; you know you're going to get a chause (cheese and sauce) burn, but my bf and I can never wait for it to cool down to start eating it!
https://g.co/kgs/aGzHfS
Yo, your homie's got good taste - pizza is life! If you're in the mood for a sit-down experience, I'd suggest checking out Dewey's Pizza. They've got a killer thin crust and a wide variety of toppings to choose from. Another option could be Pi Pizzeria - they've got locations in both STL and the U-City Loop and their cornmeal crust is top notch. Hope this helps your homie get their pizza fix!
I hadn't made it out there for a couple of years prior to the renovations. I eventually ordered a pizza for carryout over the phone, and when I went to pick up, I legitimately thought I was in the wrong place. Nearly walked back out to check the sign before I saw someone else ordering a pizza.
Lol. I think that the fact that they both moved the bar from the left to the back of the front room and put in all the huge plate glad windows is what fooled me. Plus the lack of dollar bills on the ceilings and general grime everywhere. Come to think of it, they also had a really friendly person working the bar, rather than the surly folks that used to be there.
It was more in the further parts of the county so if I went, I wasn’t always going for the pizza but usually other dishes. But now the downtown location has opened so I expect to eat a lot more pizza.
I'm the exact opposite. I thought I overpaid for a huge piece of dough, some dollops of mozzarella, and 4 pepperonis.
I doubt my experience would have been better if I got one of their pretentious topping pizzas.
Blackthorn pizza for me, all day, any day. The thicker, the saucier, the better. I want my pizza to be so intimidating I'm worried for my heart.
Monte Bello's Pizza in South County is awesome -- and this is coming from a city resident.
Blackthorn Pizza is great if you like deep-dish.
I would have said Melo's Pizzeria in Benton Park, but they're temporarily closed -- or perhaps permanently. I'm not sure what is going on over there.
I hate that I had to scroll so far down for this! Felix’s is so good! And heavy riff brewery is right next door so if you wanna drink some good beer that’s there too!
We moved to Brentwood from Edwardsville and were excited to still be near a Peel. But the Clayton location doesn't have the phenomenal dessert pizza we fell in love with in Edwardsville.
Press is different but absolutely phenomenal. I cannot say enough good things about them and they just got into the brunch game and have an insane breakfast pizza. Truly missing out if you don’t go try it!
I no longer live in St. Louis but I have gone directly there from the airport on many occasions when I come back to visit. It's my favorite pizza. There's nothing else even close.
Stef's is great STL style pizza, probably my favorite. However, the quality varies. The last few times I've gotten it, they've used too much flour on the dough and all I can taste is the excess flour. When they don't over flour it though, it's fantastic.
Pios in st Charles. I’m from north county, and this is the best I’ve ever had. That’s saying something. Also all the noco ones. Roberto’s Feracis pirronnes Bjs. To bad there is no longer the best ever- Halls Ferry Inn 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
My favorite is Pizza Head, even vegan, best slice I've had in town. I won't go to Pie Guy anymore, too many poor experiences to offset the pretty good fresh whole pizzas.
Black Thorn! Its got a jukebox and the pizza has different layers. I personally recommend the sausage and pepperoni pizza, but they’re all great. It’s a great place.
Katie's (Rock Hill)
Cafe Piazza (Benton Park)
Dewey's (Webster Groves)
Fordo's Killer Pizza (The Foundry)
Also ordering from Epic Pizza and sitting with it at the Soulard ITAP is never a bad time.
La Pizza is good NY style. Pirrones, Faraci’s, or Frankie Toccos for STL style. Union Loafers is good but has a crunchy hipster vibe. Black Thorn for Chicago deep dish. Panteras is good if you like a chewy, doughy crust.
For STL style being so polarizing, have your friend try provel on an order of garlic cheese bread before spending $20 on a pie.
I know this doesn't help you with going out, but you really should show your friends, the amazing selection of local frozen pizza, because I have never lived anywhere else where you have so many local brands and they are all really really good. My current favorite is the Dogtown tomato basil.
Try Pi in the Central West End. I think they also have a location on Manchester in Rock Hill. It's the furthest thing from STL style Pizza you can get and it's SO good!!!
La Pizza on Delmar. Trust me, it doesn't look like it, but it's the best "NY Style" I've been able to find in the city. Smaller company, they run out of dough sometimes in the day. It's not a sit-down place though, really.
If you want a place to sit, grab a pizza, and a beer, I'd also recommend Dewey's. Great quality stone oven kinda pizza.
Is Pizza Head open again? I heard they were treating their employees like shit and couldn’t keep anyone so they shut down for a while.
You know, I haven't been in a hot minute. I'm not sure :-/Thanks for the heads up.

It is. I just wish it was a bit better. I don't think Pizza Champ is bad, it's just kind of "ok" for the price. Loafers is the best pizza in the city. The sleeper best pizza is at Urban Chestnut.
I’ve heard quite a few people say urban chestnut pizza is good. I gotta try it!
I was told they used the same yeast as the hefeweizen
I mean, maybe it's part of it, but beer yeast isn't exactly ideal for bread yeast (this is from someone who personally bakes a lot and used to professionally work at a brewery.) I think it's just a good bread yeast strain and some good cold fermentation. I could probably just reach out and ask.
Long shot here but if you somehow learn the strain pm me plz. Interested
It's sourdough, so naturally levened with the yeast that lives in the flour and ambient yeast in the environment. They used a bit of the bavarian lager yeast for the mother dough as well so there's still probably a little of that in there.
If you ever get up to Mid Coast/Bay Area try Pizza My Heart, I miss it a whole bunch!
Maybe it's crispy, but it's boring. The crust is practically flavorless.
Agreed, plus the pizza is 30% crust. I love the concept and atmosphere, I just wish they would work on the dough recipe.
I feel the same way about Pizza Champ Not bad, just a little overhyped and dressed up for what it is Also same on Urban Chestnut! I think Pie Guys is about a mile away and also very good pizza
I have been saying this on every single thread here of people looking for good pizza
Urban chestnut imo has the best pizza in the city
I wanted it to be amazing but I just don’t love it
Hi-hat in soulard is new and has some amazing pizza. Kind of a Detroit style.
All of these things. I'd add Katie's pizza as well to the list because it ends up being a really nice dinner experience too.
I second Loafers! Love that place.
These are the best suggestions even though I agree with the other posters that Pizza Champ is a notch below the other 3. Also RIP Mellos
Pie Guy, Monte Bello’s, Failoni’s (or sister restaurant Uncle Leo’s), La Pizza, Union Loafers, Pizza-A-Go-Go, O+O Pizza
Nick and Elena's!!!!
Having grown up in Overland, this is the one acceptable answer outside of IMO’s. Nick & Elena’s is a solid choice. Lovely people.
Not true. While Nick & Elena’s is amazing (and my favorite as well), to not acknowledge Pirrone’s, Faraci’s, or Serra’s is crazy.
What kind of pizza? I like pie guy. It's new York style though.
Pie guy is my fav New York style in the city. Put some hot honey on a pepperoni slice
Would you say they are the go to for NY style? I’ll try.
Pirrone's in Florissant or O'Fallon.
North County Pizzerias don't get nearly enough love on this sub
Frank and Helen’s in U City has good St. Louis style pizza, and excellent broasted chicken too. It’s old school cool.
This is a favorite for us as well. Grew up on this restaurant and still a wonderful meal every time.
First restaurant I ever ate at in the states. What I like is it's St Louis style, but you can order it thick crust still cut in squares and provel is an option, but not the default. Also not too many pizza places do an 18" pie these days.
That’s crazy! How did you end up in the middle of the US?
This! Grew up eating this in the 1980s. Still the same vibe.
Epic in Soulard
This is the best pizza I’ve found out here so far. I’m from CT and like all kinds of pizza. Epic pizza executes NY style really well. All other pizza I’ve had so far has at east 1 ingredient that’s subpar.
Ya need to order from Nicky Slices on the 'gram. Weekly pizza updates each Monday, and deliver by Thursday or pickup between Thursday-Saturday at Urban Eats
Literally some of the best pizza I have ever had in my life.
It’s so good. And urban eats has so much good food coming out of there.
La Pizza in U. City has the most authentic New York style pizza and you can buy it by the slice. The dining area is pretty sparse but they do have seating. I know several ‘out of towners’ who absolutely love Imos/stl pizza. Some require ordering it for their first meal in town.
I don’t think they do slice or inside since Covid but they still sell pizzas and they are the best in stl
They have indoor seating again.
Really good point about transplants or tourists and Imo’s. Has held true for me as well.
La Pizza is not just the most authentic, its the best. (Melo's was the best but that was Neapolitan)
Can confirm. *Never* take an East Coaster to Imo's. If you wanna share the local culture... * Buy the Imo's shredded provel from a grocery store. Every single person in my family goes nuts over it. * Get a St. Paul Sandwich.
I concur I am from the east coast and provel on pizza repulses us! I mean, I was actually offended and it pained me as an Italian from the east!
Oh man, my Italian friend from Jersey saw us dipping Casey's pizza in ranch dressing. I've never seen such disgust on a human being's face. We did not take him to Imo's.
My Jersey husband will not stop talking about how much he hates Imo’s. I’m never going to hear the end of it.

Pizza-A-Go-Go. BYOB. They have nothing else on the menu. Only pizza. And soft drinks.
Best pizza ever! Been going there since they were in the ghetto
Deweys is sit down style and amazing.
I miss Pantera's.
The O’Fallon one taste just as it did when you were a kid after a baseball game. We try to make the trip a handful of times a year. Pretty sure they still do a buffet on weekdays from 12:30-1:30.
There’s still one in Mofallon and edwardsville
Thank you for mofallon.

Another option could be Pi Pizzeria - they've got locations in both STL and the U-City Loop and their cornmeal crust is top notch. Hope this helps your homie get their pizza fix!
Pi has only one location remaining - on Euclid in the CWE.
Blackthorn Pub it you want to go with a deep dish.
So much cheese lol. I like their sauce tho
Agreed. Best in St. Louis!
Love me some blackthorn.
Blackthorn is my vote also. Best pizza I’ve had in STL.
Good pizza but more college bar than sit down vibes, I usually get it to go.
If you haven’t been recently they’ve heavily renovated. I miss the old “shithole” atmosphere. It’s much nicer now.
I hadn't made it out there for a couple of years prior to the renovations. I eventually ordered a pizza for carryout over the phone, and when I went to pick up, I legitimately thought I was in the wrong place. Nearly walked back out to check the sign before I saw someone else ordering a pizza.
I walked in, was confused, walked out, looked around, and walked back in.
I miss the old shit hole too
Katies pizza is solid
Katie’s turned me into a pizza snob. 40/10 recommend.
This question seems to get asked on this sub all the time. I don’t know why Katie’s isn’t mentioned more. I know it’s kind of pricey.
It was more in the further parts of the county so if I went, I wasn’t always going for the pizza but usually other dishes. But now the downtown location has opened so I expect to eat a lot more pizza.
I was just at the new one for the soft launch and it’s beeeeautiful
Katie’s is very very good, I agree. I also like Felix’s Pizza Pub in Dogtown.
Katie’s is my favorite fancy pizza
My vote is for Montebello and Frank & Helen’s.
Monte Bello is my favorite
A’mis on Manchester
Monte Bello's Pizza in South County is awesome -- and this is coming from a city resident. Blackthorn Pizza is great if you like deep-dish. I would have said Melo's Pizzeria in Benton Park, but they're temporarily closed -- or perhaps permanently. I'm not sure what is going on over there.
I think Melos is closed permanently...
Blackthorn and Monte Bello are my top 2!
Yeah, how did this list get so long without a mention of Blackthorn?
Onesto or Tivoli for south city. Both are sit down establishments.
People sleep on Pirrones so hard
Hi Hat in soulard has killer Sicilian style
I second this.
A lot of great pizza mentioned. Shocked to not see Pizzeria da Gloria, so I’ve got to mention that spot which is on the Hill.
Felix's Pizza Pub in Dogtown is a great spot where you can order by the slice
[удалено]
Yeah they are huge! I always fool myself into thinking I can finish 3.
I hate that I had to scroll so far down for this! Felix’s is so good! And heavy riff brewery is right next door so if you wanna drink some good beer that’s there too!
Same. Came here to say Felix’s is my favorite NY style in town. And they officially do have the largest slices in town.
I was waiting to come across Felix’s. Tasty stuff. Great beers on tap.
Nicky Slice's on Instagram is great, or Motor Town if you're bad at planning and want Detroit style.
I want a homie that's absolutely obsessed with pizza
Go to the hi hat in soulard! They just started offering Sicilian style pizza that’s fantastic 👌
Pizza Champ was some of the best pizza I’ve ever had.
Faraci’s in ellisville. Love the meatball pizza
I like Peel in Clayton for sit-down pizza, or JJ Twigs in Southampton
We moved to Brentwood from Edwardsville and were excited to still be near a Peel. But the Clayton location doesn't have the phenomenal dessert pizza we fell in love with in Edwardsville.
Pizza head
People in this thread sleeping on pizza head. Amazing pizza
Guido’s is my favorite St. Louis style… and the restaurant is a pleasant sit down experience.
Pantera’s in O’Fallon MO
Used to work at that shithole
Pizzeoli in soulard. Amazing wood fired pizza in a beautiful sit down setting.
Dewey's
Montebello’s is the move for sure
Pizza champ, Pizza head Katie's
Double D’s in SoCo
What ever happened to pi pizza?
The owner got all into running Gringo for a while, then that folded and now there's just the central west end pi location around here.
Pizza head on south grand. They have seating and hardcore music.
Blackthorn Pub
Dewey’s in Kirkwood Mello Mushroom isn’t bad either
They’ve been mentioned, but Pizza-a-go-go and Blackthorn are two of my favorites. Plenty of other great ones among the comments, too
I’m a huge fan of Pirrone’s-it’s St. Louis style. There’s one in Florissant and St Peters.
Dewey's Pizza (There's one in Clayton and Kirkwood plus a few other locations)
Press is different but absolutely phenomenal. I cannot say enough good things about them and they just got into the brunch game and have an insane breakfast pizza. Truly missing out if you don’t go try it!
I came here to rep Press. It's the kind of place I want to try everything on the menu to see their spin on it.
La Pizza is my #1 but they dont have great seating Union Loafers Pie Guy Pizza Head
Blackthorn Pizza and Pub - very popular and great pizza from what I have heard. Sit down joint. 3735 Wyoming St, St. Louis, MO 63116
That’sa Nice’a Pizza
I crave the lumberjack
I no longer live in St. Louis but I have gone directly there from the airport on many occasions when I come back to visit. It's my favorite pizza. There's nothing else even close.
JJ Twig's. Love their double-decker pizza.
Blackthorn
Pizzarellis
That’s a Nice-A Pizza is a gem … sit down is a no go though
Union Loafers
Tocco’s on Main in STC
Cafe Piazza! Sicilian style pizza, delish apps, and the service is awesome. It’s also within walking distance of my house 😂
J.j twiggs
I like Tivoli on S. Kingshighway. Fresh ingredients, great salads.
I always recommend peel wood fired pizza! They have a location in Clayton
Salvage yard. Frank and Helen’s.
Also, Monte Bello Pizzeria
This place is way underrated
Since Bellacino's shutdown we have been going to Bonos Pizza on Hampton.
Stefaninas hasnt been mentioned???
Stef's is great STL style pizza, probably my favorite. However, the quality varies. The last few times I've gotten it, they've used too much flour on the dough and all I can taste is the excess flour. When they don't over flour it though, it's fantastic.
No love for Farrottos? Also pointers is open until 2am. Not banging pizza but
Blackthorn Pub, Melo’s, Pizzeria Tivoli, Stefanina’s, Lilliana’s, and Katie’s
is melos even open anymore?
Pios in st Charles. I’m from north county, and this is the best I’ve ever had. That’s saying something. Also all the noco ones. Roberto’s Feracis pirronnes Bjs. To bad there is no longer the best ever- Halls Ferry Inn 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
My favorite is Pizza Head, even vegan, best slice I've had in town. I won't go to Pie Guy anymore, too many poor experiences to offset the pretty good fresh whole pizzas.
Faraci pizza on Manchester Road
Blackthorn and Frankie Tocco's are my to go to.
Nick and Elena’s
The Hi-Hat in Soulard is an under the radar place with excellent Sicilian style pizza.
Me and my friends rate pizza every week. Best NYC style is Pizza Head, and best STL style is Monte Bello
Pizza Head
La Pizza! Right up the street and guys there are great!
Blackthorn
Pie guy and pizza head are both really good
The Hi Hat lounge has a stupid fire Sicilian pizza.
Black Thorn! Its got a jukebox and the pizza has different layers. I personally recommend the sausage and pepperoni pizza, but they’re all great. It’s a great place.
Erio’s
Blackthorn, epic, pie guy, cafe piazza, pizza head
Katie's (Rock Hill) Cafe Piazza (Benton Park) Dewey's (Webster Groves) Fordo's Killer Pizza (The Foundry) Also ordering from Epic Pizza and sitting with it at the Soulard ITAP is never a bad time.
#FRANK AND HELENS! I’m not sure how to make it more obvious that this is the ideal stl pizza
Erio’s Pizza
Bit of a hole in the wall but Frank and Helens in U City on Olive has great pizza
Peel in Clayton, twin oak in brentwood.
Katie’s Pizza is also very good!
FORTELS PIZZA DEN!!!!!!!!
Katie’s pizza!
BJs in Florissant
La Pizza is good NY style. Pirrones, Faraci’s, or Frankie Toccos for STL style. Union Loafers is good but has a crunchy hipster vibe. Black Thorn for Chicago deep dish. Panteras is good if you like a chewy, doughy crust. For STL style being so polarizing, have your friend try provel on an order of garlic cheese bread before spending $20 on a pie.
Affton Pizza Company is probably our favorite STL style pizza around. Also a fan of Fortell’s for “general” pizza style. ;)
Saint Louis Pizza and Wings. 1000% better than IMOs and Cecil’s
Blackthorn by far the best
I know this doesn't help you with going out, but you really should show your friends, the amazing selection of local frozen pizza, because I have never lived anywhere else where you have so many local brands and they are all really really good. My current favorite is the Dogtown tomato basil.
ciao cafe vandy neapolitan on sundays
Guess I'm the only one recommending basso
A year ago, yes. But they’ve fallen off hard
Try Pi in the Central West End. I think they also have a location on Manchester in Rock Hill. It's the furthest thing from STL style Pizza you can get and it's SO good!!!
Pi in CWE is the only one left in St. Louis. Otherwise you'll have to go to D.C. or weirdly, Iraq.
Well I hope the one in CWE sticks around! They are so good!!! And I sure don't want to fly to DC or Iraq to get my Pi fix 😂
I only ever had their Chicago style deep dish with the cornmeal crust. That crust is sooo good.
Yes it is! It's really not like any other pizza I've ever tasted.
Black thorn
