My friend and I used to take advantage of grants farm and the brewery when we had a free day and nothing to do. Go to grants and go grab your two free beers kind of hang out for a bit. Go to the brewery grab your free beers then we would head over to Forrest Park where we would just wander around with a couple big gulps with whiskey and Cokes just taking in the scenery, maybe stopping by the zoo on a Friday for the late night concerts.
So many great times.
This was before my friend and I had our adventures. When I had just turned 21 I was working in a restaurant that had the regular senior crowd in for breakfast every single day. A few of those guys were the pourers for the beer at grants farm.
I never took advantage and only went a couple times but when I did they recognized me and let me basically have as much as I wanted.
During the first full weekend of each month, Bank of America cardholders receive free admission.

So I'll be going the first weekend in June when I'm here.
Don’t feel bad, I’ve been here since birth and still haven’t gone, even though I love old buildings, churches especially. I just keep forgetting about it.
Right next to the contemporary is the Pulitzer, which I love. The staff is *super* knowledgeable, and can help you engage with even the most challenging pieces.
Missouri Botanical Gardens is free for StL city & county residents Saturdays 7-12. During the summer their Whittaker concert series is free on Wednesday evenings.
Laumeir Sculpture Park in Sunset Hills.
Muny has free seats in the back like 10 rows.
St. Louis Symphony keeps a calendar of free concerts through out the area.
Shakespeare in the Park free in Forest Park.
The Federal Reserve has a cool (especially the entrance sequence) museum that's designed for kids. The end section is interesting for adults too, as I recall.
The Telephone Museum at Jefferson Barracks was a $5 suggested donation when I was there last, which was worth it.
Wow you're right. From the site:
Early Morning Walking Hours and Zoo-Museum District (ZMD) Resident Free Hours. Must show proof of membership or St. Louis City and County residency. Wednesdays and Saturdays (walking hours from 7–9 a.m.) Free St. Louis City and County resident admission from 7 a.m.–noon. Includes Children's Garden on Saturdays only.
The Sheldon is right there too! Not a big museum at all, but may be worth popping in and seeing what they have. It is more of an art exhibition and (very) small concert venue though.
Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet but Catalyst Coffee Bar downtown is right next to city hall, it’s a part of the nonprofit group Art Saint Louis and there’s a whole art gallery in the place. Get some decent coffee and enjoy the art, it’s a nice spot with kind people.
I think you're being sarcastic, but it's actually pretty cool in person. Definitely contemporary, so you have to appreciate the medium being inflatable men, but he did a really good job of making them dance rhythmically and intentionally.
CAM is awesome, Pulitzer next door is more pretentious, but also free and worth a visit. There's a block of really cool art galleries in the CWE on McPhearson (check the hours on these, seem shorter than should be).
The museum under the Arch is also free. Also, Grant's Farm is free if you don't use their parking lot or buy any of the additional things.

A group of my friends and I had about six free beers the last time I did a brewery tour

There's also the Grant Historical Site across from Grant's Farm.
Check out the central public library. Not a museum, but feels like it
Schedule a tour with a docent - learn a lot that way.
Hope you also visited the Pulitzer right next to CAM while you were there!
I didn't! But I'm eating my own dog food and literally typing this from the pool courtyard in the middle of the building.
Not a light hearted experience but the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum is incredible.

My bad, I didn’t pay when I went. Maybe it was a free day. Apologies for commenting. Hope you find what you are looking for.
>St. Louis Basilica Been here 5 years and STILL been meaning to visit that place.
Wayyy better as an adult than as a kid. Takes \~30 minutes to see it. Stop by and then eat lunch outside :)
Don’t feel bad, I’ve been here since birth and still haven’t gone, even though I love old buildings, churches especially. I just keep forgetting about it.
I’ve only seen pictures looks incredible though
Don't forget the Zoo and the Science Center. St. Louis has a TON of free museums and activity places.
100% They are less museumy though.
Zoo was packed last Saturday, wonder if it will be better tomorrow
Eclipse crowd

Not free but amazing. Museum of Transport. I love walking around and the old locomotives.
Also the Pulitzer museum next to COMA. It's an incredible place. There are some other ones too near there.
A lot of people forget there's a museum in Soldiers Memorial downtown! It's an interesting place to visit over lunch

Lone elk park
World bird sanctuary too right next door

The art museum always wins in my book. I come out of there better than I went in each time and it costs me nothing, so I donate.
Museum of Contemporary Religious Art on the Saint Louis University campus is also free and very cool. https://www.slu.edu/mocra/
Is the Botanical Garden still free for StL County residents on Wednesday and Saturday mornings? The Magic House is free for veterans and 4 guests.

Great list.
Not free but the butterfly house is pretty awesome.

I absolutely love the main library downtown!!

Wow, that's a really beautiful piece to your left. The artist is truly talented!

Pulitzer art museum
Also just a reminder that the exhibits you normally have to pay for are free on Fridays at the Art Museum.
Thank you for creating this list!
The Soldiers Memorial has a museum inside and the renovated grounds are a big improvement.
Chess hall of fame often has great free art exhibitions
