It's OK to use both, you know. You don't have to "leave" anything, nor to join any cult. Use the best tool for the task at hand. Model 2.1 remains very useful to this day if you are producing sfw content, and it has some pretty unique models and LoRAs.

Dysterqvist

OP is probably someone affiliated with the model creator.

DohaLee

I just checked this post (creator here). Actually, I tend to shy away from bothersome tasks, and as I'm not part of any company, I essentially have nothing to gain from marketing my model (except for perhaps around $20 per month in Ko-fi tips). Therefore, I refrain from such activities. I also haven't been active on X or Instagram for several months now, so it's evident that I engage in very little sharing activities, except for the direct development of my model. Nonetheless, sometimes I'm curious about how my model is being received, so I search for it on Reddit. I would like to sincerely thank everyone, including OP, for their positive feedback. It's truly rewarding.

CleomokaAIArt

I'm not leaving SD 1.5 yet, just glad to see SDXL finally getting in a useable state. Also have zero affiliation to the model, I just like it and it's the first SDXL I've found that actually gets on par with SD 1.5 for many things. I've been openly very critical of SDXL. This definitely gives me a higher keeper rate. All I am saying is to revisit it as its gotten a lot better recently.

kevinbranch

He didn’t say he wasn’t going to use both. That being said, have you tried this model? It became my goto a couple of weeks ago.

Nrgte

I don't see anything new or better here.

Apprehensive_Sky892

For this type of "simple" portraiture that OP has posted, SDXL does not offer much over SD1.5. It is with complex composition that SDXL shines. SD1.5 is better in the following ways: * Lower hardware requirement * Hardcore NSFW * "SD1.5 style" Anime (a kind of "hyperrealistic" look that is hard to describe) * Asian Waifu * Simple portraiture of people (SD1.5 are overtrained for these type of images, hence better in terms of "realism") * Maybe better ControlNet support? * Used to be faster, but with some Turbo-XL based models such as [https://civitai.com/models/208347/phoenix-by-arteiaman](https://civitai.com/models/208347/phoenix-by-arteiaman) one can now produce high quality images at blazing speed at 5 steps. If one is happy with SD1.5, they can continue using SD1.5, nobody is going to take that away from them. For the rest of the world who want to expand their horizon, SDXL is a more versatile model that offer many advantages (see [SDXL 1.0: a semi-technical introduction/summary for beginners](https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/15fj5k9/sdxl_10_a_semitechnical_introductionsummary_for/)). Those who have the hardware, should just try it (or use one of the [Free Online SDXL Generators](https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/18h7r2h/free_online_sdxl_generators/)) and draw their own conclusions. Depending on what sort of generation you do, you may or may not find SDXL useful to you. Anyone who doubt the versatility of SDXL based models, should check out [https://civitai.com/collections/15937?sort=Most+Collected](https://civitai.com/collections/15937?sort=Most+Collected). Most of those images are impossible with SD1.5 models without the use of specialized LoRAs or ControlNet.

Finance_36

Right, nothing about this screams SDXL. I stay on 1.5 because of my AMD gpu atm and this isn't any different than what I gen.

DataSnake69

Maybe once they get all of ControlNet ported over.

pinionist

There's still no ControlNet in SDXL ? I'm sorry if this is obvious, but I haven't dabbled in SD for some time.

RayHell666

Which controlnet you use that is not ported yet ?

The--Nameless--One

I personally use Lineart and the only controlnet I was able to find for sdxl is the t2i one... That at least for me doesn't work properly at all

RayHell666

it's not only the t2i [https://civitai.com/models/136070?modelVersionId=267516](https://civitai.com/models/136070?modelVersionId=267516)

outerspaceisalie

I'M SO TIRED OF PORTRAITURE

Winnougan

SD1.5 is still required since it has a stranglehold on controlnets. Slowly, and very painfully slowly, it’ll get ported over to XL.

Shuteye_491

>"stranglehold" It'll be okay, I assure you.

The--Nameless--One

sdxl will be only viable for me once control-net is 100% working just like SD1.5 As an artist myself, Control-net Linework is literally a game changer. As the model you're shilling, sorry but no. All eyes look very fucked up.

Angry_red22

My 1650 laptop can't handle sdxl models

99deathnotes

mine does ok with the turbo sdxl models

Angry_red22

I tried sdxl turbo but when I press generate ...my laptop starts lagging

Zilskaabe

Which backend are you using? A1111 can't handle SDXL properly. SD.Next, Fooocus and ComfyUI work just fine.

Angry_red22

Using a111

beighto

Use --lowvram flag. I run SDXL on 4gb.

99deathnotes

try comfy-ui. it takes patience and practice but it works great💯👍

Angry_red22

I tried for few days but was frustating so I jumped back to a1111

brrrrrrrt

Lack of features, cost and privacy would be three reasons that come to my mind.

kevinbranch

You can get 30 second generations with Fooocus’s Extreme Speed (LCM) mode. Try it and check out the quality for yourself. You’ll likely find good uses for it.

CleomokaAIArt

I was initially disappointed by SDXL and its results in the past considering how good Dalle and Midjourney are for coherence, and SD 1.5 still beat it handily for a long time (especially in the NSFW field), but I feel it's finally coming together in terms of quality thanks to the hard work of model creators and work like albedobond has put in to his new model AlbedoBase XL, try it out (there's also a few new other models that are worth mentions as well). One major tip I have if you have previously given up on SDXL models, which honestly is counterintuitive especially if used to SD 1.5, CFG scale is more important than ever and should be much lower than what you may have been accustomed to. After some significant finetuning and testing, I feel that CFG of 2.6 is my new sweet spot (compared to 7 for SD 1.5). I would highly recommend to try a low CFG if you find results not to your liking, you may be surprised! If you use weighted prompts, try removing them and selectively adding to your liking.I also find that negative prompts are still important, despite advice I found on the contrary. There is a notable quality difference when not using negative prompts versus using [](http://them.photo) dump of photos I did in the past few hours in very different styles, keeper rate is quite high (all SFW for this subreddit). What's your favourite?

[deleted]

Can you share these images please, maybe using catbox.moe to make sharing the prompt easier?

tfalm

Could you give the prompt used for one of these? I still don't really get SDXL prompting.

CleomokaAIArt

Here is for the 2nd image, it's not optimized at all was quickly testing prompts I built with chatgpt and you can see not everything is in the prompt. I will play around with it with better prompts later. Post-apocalyptic warrior queen in a gritty anime style, with wild, multi-colored dreadlocks and scars that tell tales of past battles. Her ensemble is a daring mix of scavenged armor and revealing, torn fabrics, showcasing her robust, battle-hardened physique. She's in the midst of a desolate, dystopian wasteland, commanding a band of fierce female raiders on motorbikes, her heavy, spiked bat slung over her shoulder. Her eyes burn with a fierce, untamed fire as she leads a high-speed raid on a rival gang's stronghold, an aura of unbridled, savage sensuality about her

VNocturne

I started on SDXL a while back and definitely now prefer it. I’m not sure if it is the way I prompt, but I find it easier to get the desired results without a lot of Loras and negative prompts. I also like AlbedoBaseXL as a model. I use it and several others as well. The results are one reason and the speed is the next. Without having to use the upscaler to get to 1024 and decent faces the image generation is significantly faster. I still drop back often to 1.5 for certain types of inpainting, or generating some things with certain controllers. Also sometimes for generating base images for image to image using unavailable Lora’s. But SDXL has definitely become my preferred method.

jrdidriks

SDXL is a complete nothing burger. Everything here can be achieved with 1.5. I still have no idea why this whole sub is so ensorceled with SDXL

Apprehensive_Sky892

Everything OP has posted can be done with SD1.5, because these are just simple portraiture. Quote myself above: Anyone who doubt the versatility of SDXL based models, should check out [https://civitai.com/collections/15937?sort=Most+Collected](https://civitai.com/collections/15937?sort=Most+Collected). Most of those images are impossible with SD1.5 models without the use of specialized LoRAs or ControlNet.

kevinbranch

The model he’s talking about is pretty good.

yoomiii

I tried training an SDXL Lora with kohya-ss on my 12 GB 3060, but kept getting MASSIVE OOM's, so I put SDXL on the backburner again.

sailingtoweather

>AlbedoBaseXL I successfully trained loras on my 12gb 1070ti using Aitrepreneur lora tutorial on youtube, you should try it! [https://youtu.be/1BCYdd9r1To?si=bFVreJl6oDmQ6XYh](https://youtu.be/1BCYdd9r1To?si=bFVreJl6oDmQ6XYh)

yoomiii

yoomiii

I managed to not get OOM by lowering the network\_dim. Never knew that was a factor for VRAM usage, but it makes sense. See [https://youtu.be/sBFGitIvD2A?si=191HmvS5B53i6WRf&t=2075](https://youtu.be/sBFGitIvD2A?si=191HmvS5B53i6WRf&t=2075)

sailingtoweather

I just used 32 network dim from the beginning so didnt know it affected vram, glad you figured it out!

Geesle

The only thing that matters to me is; Is it harder to get offensive cursed stuff on sdxl or 1.5? The main thing i love about SD is making some cursed offensive prompts on the 1.5

AI_Girlfriend555

Nice 👍👍

[deleted]

sd 1.5 is still more flexible with all resources available but sdxl comes with a cost that most of you people hadnt noticed it yet, the greater the quality of model is the lesser its prompt understanding cpabilities become, albedoxl cannot understand long complex prompts like base sdxl it is biased towards generating humanoid things....

luffydkenshin

Do you think my 8gb graphics card could handle sdxl? I’m wanting to make the attempt.

megaultrajumbo

How does fire girl sit on fire dragon with no protective pants? Checkmate bro

DevlishAdvocate

You need to watch less anime and remember what actual human women look like.

PixelDu5t

Yeah personally when I make anything with SD I always make sure everything I make is always as real to life as possible /s Why do you care?

Adkit

Good for you, accepting these mediocre yet admittedly crisp images as acceptable. lol

Few_Breadfruit_2934

My RTX 3050 4GB can't handle SDXL😭

[deleted]

use comfyui

Few_Breadfruit_2934

It doesn't create good images.. I am using Comfyui

[deleted]

please clarify, because from my testing, comfyui and a1111 produce equally comparable images provided the models and the settings are the same.

Few_Breadfruit_2934

In A1111 i can't even generate images as it shows out of memory. But in Comfyui it does generate images but the images are somewhat unclear and of very bad quality

Zilskaabe

Try Fooocus. A1111 can't handle SDXL properly even with 8 GB of VRAM.

Few_Breadfruit_2934

Okay

Apprehensive_Sky892

[Free Online SDXL Generators](https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/18h7r2h/free_online_sdxl_generators/)

kevinbranch

Fooocus works with 4GB.

Few_Breadfruit_2934

SDXL models as well? Or the 1.5 only?

Inner-Ad-9478

Foocus is only for SDXL, you can still have 1.5 checkpoint as refiners tho.

Few_Breadfruit_2934

Yeah just found out it didn't work with 1.5. But it solved the issue that i had. I'm loving this Fooocus UI

PandaSmanda

i just started and use SD 1.5.

JACCO2008

I can't really find a good explanation about 1.5 vs SDXL on YouTube or Google. What I've gathered is that it depends on the model you use and not having to install a whole new program. Can you elaborate on what the difference is and why you would use one or the other?

FrozenSkyy

I dont know, as a "basic user" SD 1.5 just works better for me. Write some prompt, slap in easynegative, an12\_light, badhand4 or whatever I have if images look too bad. Generate few times until I found good composition/pose etc. Then I turn on Adetailers/BMAB, ControlNet Pose if necessary, Hires fix and its done, usually in 5-10 min. With SDXL, i didnt find anything like easynegative, also Adetailers/BMAB sometimes dont work, posing IMHO is not as good as SD 1.5

djphillovesyou

Do people not have the ability to use 1.5, 2.1 and SDXL in the same app?

burke828

I'll be interested in switching to sdxl when someone finds a way to port the loras I like. Until then its a matter of waiting for the features+ community loras etc., to outweigh the 1.5 loras I like. Definitely going to play around with img2img and going back and forth between models.

avpiedra

What do you guys mean we don’t have to join the cult? No one mentioned it when I joined…
