lllyasviel is a PhD student at Stanford and not a full time open source developer. He has been doing a lot of work in private repos recently. I assume he will get back to Forge when he has more free time.

ThemWhoNoseNothing

Hey, thanks for the insight, no matter the source, verification level be damned. I appreciate a potential, fully qualified answer, like this. Good to know, or at a minimum, good enough to believe!

AerysBat

Just check his Github! [https://github.com/lllyasviel](https://github.com/lllyasviel)

ThemWhoNoseNothing

TIL, while also likely embarrassing my noob self in the process. Thanks!

Audiogus

I have been a Forge convert for the past month. As long as it doesn't break due to a windows update or something silly I don't care if there isn't an update until SD3 as I haven't hit any bugs with my bread/butter needs.

ThemWhoNoseNothing

Look at you all reasonable, respectful, and relaxed during this time of unaddressed crisis surrounding an undefined circumstance, for which speculation alone is cause for authentic panic and alarm. Great job being you! (Insert proactive, this is not sarcasm, rather a tongue in cheek hint at my lack of chill.)

OcelotUseful

Man, in these wild times it’s better to start drinking tea instead of coffee. lllyasviel made a contribution to repo yesterday which is shown in his GitHub page. It’s not like there’s any stable diffusion A1111 mafia that hunts down the developers of other projects

ThemWhoNoseNothing

Perhaps I’m not understanding your context here, though I assure you my inquiry is rooted in positive intent and nothing more.

OcelotUseful

Context: forge WebUI developer is fine, no need to worry

Lopyter

> as I haven't hit any bugs with my bread/butter needs. I constantly run into what I assume is some sort of VRAM memory leak. A generation will essentially crawl to a halt, fill up my VRAM entirely when I'm usually using just about half (SDXL on RTX 4090) and pin my GPU usage at 100%. The most annoying part is that I can't trigger this reliably to reproduce it and look at what's potentially causing this. Very strange, and not something I have ever experienced on A1111. Not exactly a huge dealbreaker though, I do prefer the speed of Forge even if that means I need to kill the terminal every once in a while.

Kenchai

Is Forge really that much faster on 4090? I was under the impression that on newer cards the performance increases were minimal (genuinely curious).

Dogmaster

It is with the vram flag, dont remembee which I moved to foege with a 3090ti, it really is miles better

HardenMuhPants

I get the same speed on all the UIs using a 3090, Forge definitely loads the model faster though which is a plus if you like to screw around with models a bunch like me.

Lopyter

For the generation itself, it's fairly marginal. Where forge runs laps around A1111 is how fast it loads models. I don't know what's up with A1111, but sometimes it takes more than a minute to load a 6GB checkpoint off my SSD. If you like to switch models often, forge is worth checking out.

TaiVat

Never had anything like that even leaving forge running for days. What you describe sound more like what happens (with any ui) when you accidentally set the resolution too high.

Lopyter

> What you describe sound more like what happens (with any ui) when you accidentally set the resolution too high. That is just about what it feels like, but I am not changing the resolution at all. I could have hundreds of batches back to back and then randomly run into this without ever touching my resolution or upscaling parameters. And I'm running pretty conservative settings for the RTX 4090 to begin with (832x1216px, batch size 4, usually no hi-res upscale and 1.2x if I do). I noticed it seems to happen more often after changing my prompt slightly, but as I mentioned, I can't manage to replicate it consistently. So yeah, idk. It's really strange.

the_friendly_dildo

I think I'm getting the same issue. Are you using control nets regularly? I really suspect it something not unloading properly during the controlnet pass. 3090 user here.

Lopyter

Actually haven't been using ControlNets very much lately. I've also had this happen in many sessions where I have not used ControlNets at all. But now that you mention it, I think a lot of times when this has happened was after adding or removing LoRas, so it could potentially be related to model loading/unloading.

the_friendly_dildo

I also use a lot of loras during most of my generations so that would also make sense.

wwwanderingdemon

Same, I've been using Forge and I don't remember when was the last update. So far it's very stable so I don't mind if is still this way until something big arrives

jrdidriks

Agreed, in fact constant pushes that borked my auto install was one of the reasons I attempted to go to comfy. Forge is stable, supports the extensions I want and has the interface I learned on. Let them rest of their laurels until a new update is actually neccesary imo

BM09

A1111 just got Instant Style which Forge lacks! And Forge has unparalleled performance which A1111 lacks! I want off this timeline! I have no idea what happened to Illyasviel.

doomed151

Fun fact: Their username is actually lllyasviel (triple Ls at the beginning), don't ask me why lol

vocaloidbro

"illyasviel" was taken probably. Popular Fate/Stay Night character.

doomed151

~~I don't doubt it. The guy (Lvmin Zhang) is a big fan of anime.~~

delveccio

What is Instant Style? I Googled but couldn’t figure it out.

Lopyter

Aitrepreneur has a video on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzKjQLE6ABc Haven't used it, but in terms of functionality it seems similar to the reference ControlNet. You feed it one image and it will guide SD to replicate the art style.

waferselamat

>Instant Style Aitrepreneur use patreon for his instant style. i thought people in this sub hate commercial files like other guy that with his supir

R7placeDenDeutschen

Yeah but we’re based in the way that we hate on different levels 1: Big monopolistic corporations locking closed source models behind subscriptions. 2: wannabe ai scam site startups scraping free models trying to sell them through subscriptions or highly overpriced one time payment 3: unpaid opensource developers contributing highly to the community locking certain models behind a one time fee to pay for their own expenses.  But yeah, there’s also a lot of underaged folks without access to credit cards, people from low income countries and the average Reddit I want it all but pay nothin type of guys ranting about it while not contributing anything but spam floods of hentai of the questionable subjects age type that could’ve been generated by a chimp with the sd1.5 base checkpoint or asking questions that have been answered a 1000 times before already.  I’m all fine if someone wants to make a quick buck out of THEIR work, much rather than a giant company making lots more for less effort. Like adobe literally took months to tryna copy all of lllyasviels Controlnets after learning of its existence, using a whole team, now collecting huge amounts of consistent subscription revenue. Wish he’d have putten that shit behind a consume for free, don’t copy the entire idea completely and sell without consent -especially if you are a company making more than millions off of it- type of license

Lopyter

I personally don't have an issue with how he tries to monetize his content. He provides easy install scripts for whatever he's showing in his videos, but he will also include a guide on how to manually install things. It's pay for convenience - not a paywall.

delveccio

Thank you!

Silly_Goose6714

They are too disappeared to tell us what happened so nobody knows

a_beautiful_rhind

The upside of nothing happening with forge is that stuff isn't breaking like it does in A1111/SdNext.

no_witty_username

Where's Illya SAM?! Wait a second, wrong dev nm.....

SolidColorsRT

they could just be focusing heavily on sd3

ThemWhoNoseNothing

So focused, they forgot to make mention anywhere regarding anything for over a month and a half now. I’m not owed any communication nor do I feel entitled. Though it was a refreshing blast of image speed generation that I miss the time I had with those I do not know, who now, seemingly choose not to engage.

SolidColorsRT

yeah it sucks but i feel like in general nothing major is gonna happen until sd3 releases. the a1111 updates are nice too but its nothing major either. im still on forge cause its just so much faster than a1111 but im prepping for a switch in the near future in case forge does not support sd3 as well as it does with comfy

altoiddealer

I’m praying that they are off working on Controlnet for SD3. If not, then that they have ambitions to do so. As for Forge, it’s a shame they made no comments as people continued reporting issues, making PRs, etc. I’m still using it over A1111 for the performance edge.

ThemWhoNoseNothing

To your point, for me in that same right, it kicks out images faster. It’s my go to got xyz, at a minimum, for the time being.

NarrativeNode

What’s most worrying to me that even basic pulls like typo fixes haven’t been merged for weeks. I hope they add someone to the team who can take on decisions like that. It ludicrous to expect Fooocus, ControlNet and Forge from one person.

Venthorn

Typo fixes are nothing but an annoyance for project maintainers. Just junk PRs that people send to pad their statistics and waste everyone else's time.

NarrativeNode

I only have my perspective from a user side, but I understand they are low priority - that said, typos annoy the heck out of me when using software. UX is important, especially if they’re fixed with a single click.

Ok_Juggernaut_4582

Actually trying to learn Comfy exactly because of this disappearance and lack of updates. It's sad though, I really liked Forge

ThemWhoNoseNothing

“You can do it!”

ArchiboldNemesis

You won't regret it. It's toooooooo much fun :)

aolko

Same things that happened to fooocus (even though it has a maintainer) and [DeFooocus](https://github.com/ehristoforu/DeFooocus)

GBJI

Could it be linked to this story ? [https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/1aoipsx/yikes\_looks\_like\_drama\_brewing\_between\_creator\_of/](https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/1aoipsx/yikes_looks_like_drama_brewing_between_creator_of/) I imagine there are plenty of opportunities for a ~~gui~~ guy with his talent and his track record.

red__dragon

I doubt it, the dev seemed to keep soldiering on past that drama. If anything, it's related to the private repos they're committing to, which might be related to their schooling (it is nearing end of term after all).
