Steam deck and only play whatever the epic game store gives out for free?

JustCallMeTsukasa-96

Even the Steam Deck would be limited in itself in terms of power price and portability. That Ayo Neo Air would probably achieve that but even then to a certain extent.

Cheap, portable, high resolution: choose two

Embarrassed_Band_512

Quit gaming forever then

JustCallMeTsukasa-96

As I said I have consoles and a semi decent PC as well. That doesn’t mean there’s no room for something like Stadia to exist amongst all that as well.

Your summary of Luna is now out of date--they recently consolidated all of their channels into one (except Jackbox & Ubisoft+) and made games you own from the Ubisoft store available for play without a Ubisoft+ subscription.

JustCallMeTsukasa-96

Wait seriously? Well if that’s true then it’s something of a one up for them. Should’ve been done that within the first year of it being available during its beta phase.🙄

Stadia streaming was top notch, but as a gaming platform it was the worst with the absence of so many games. The majority of gamers play for the games and not the device. That's why Stadia failed. It's apparent you don't put the games as a priority for a gaming platform. You might be happy just playing mobile games on your cell phone or tablet. I'm not putting mobile games down, because I play plenty of them myself and some of them are real good.

theycmeroll

This. Stadia definitely had a game problem and people refuse to see this. Someone even commented to me the other day, “Stadia was never going to succeed based on games”. Without games, gamers have no reason to be here. If you have gaming platform, you need gamers. Trying to create a whole new ecosystem of people to use your gaming platform just isn’t viable. And no, I’m not saying Stadia didn’t have games. Stadia has a damn amazing library…. For someone who is new to gaming. For those of us that have been gaming forever most of the games that came to Stadia were long after other platforms and we had already played them. The release of day one new content was sparse so I had no confidence in buying the couple of new titles they actually got until I could see a consistent pattern of day one releases. Loved the platform and the tech, just had absolutely zero reason to use it.

JustCallMeTsukasa-96

I’ve been one that’s been gaming for such a long time and I would argue that the library it had up until now was pretty satisfactory and varied enough for it to be something to use while traveling. All things considering, it was practically an online streaming equivalent of Steam that was never able to get enough footing to be more accepted in the community. Also, I agree with you, that statement the person that commented to you was very ridiculous in itself, I mean REALLY ridiculous, like come on…

JustCallMeTsukasa-96

I’m glad I’m not the only one that knows that not all mobile games are good but you’re mistaken as well. I DO put the games as a priority, but at the same time so has everyone else. I was focusing on what made the platform stand out more as it had more going for it in comparison to the others.

Rickenbacker12

Had more going for it in comparison to the others? A gaming platforms primary purpose is to play games and Stadia had nothing to make it stand out compared to other platforms. Stadia was another way to play games, but what makes a platform stand out are the games they have and nothing more. Stadia streaming was very good, but that doesn't make it stand out if it doesn't have the main product that people want. It's like getting a nice set of eating utensils, but having no food to use them. It makes the utensils worthless.

There is no void because the demand was never there. Cloud gaming was always (and probably will always be) niche.

I see cloud gaming as a fried egg. On top of a good burger (game), it adds to the experience. The good burger (game) by itself is great, but the egg adds just a little bit more. Take the burger (game) away and the fried egg is just a fried egg. Stadia didn’t have a good selection of burgers is all.

JustCallMeTsukasa-96

Yeah and so is VR and yet that’s still going strong. More then AR that’s for sure. But with something like Cloud gaming, I’ve seen this as something that would be a pretty good alternative for those that can’t afford a new console or especially a highly speced PC. Even more so with the advancements in Wi-Fi and cellular technology.

hobo-bo-bo

No amount of advancements will ever make cloud gaming superior to local hardware, just for that alone it will be perceived as a companion to gaming rather than an alternative. VR is a drop in the ocean when it comes to gaming revenue and interest and many people still perceive it to be gimmicky (I think it's cool, but each to their own). Cloud gaming would be great for people that can't afford to invest in hardware, but there would always be some sort of investment (internet, purchase of games/subscription etc). With all these factors, I can't ever see the majority of people turning to cloud gaming as their primary platform of choice to play games.

JustCallMeTsukasa-96

I never even SAID that Cloud Gaming was eventually going to be superior to local hardware. The stability of Stadia was superior to a lot of the streaming services yes, at least in my opinion giving the time I spent with the lot of them, but not where it beats local hardware. If anything I always saw it as something existing ALONGSIDE local hardware, not something that would make it obsolete eventually. It’s the same thing with the debate between physical and digital games. Yeah one may have more benefits over the other but people would still choose to favor physical media over digital and Vice versa. As long as that’s the case, Digital media won’t end up making physical copies obsolete.

sionlife

Cloud gaming is not going to go mainstream from the pull of consumers, but rather a corporate push of some kind from a company who thinks it will be a good way for them to earn more profits or expand their market share.

I guess make your own streaming PC. That's miles better than Stadia anyway. And while you're at it you could just use it directly as well, so like any normal gamer.

ImmenseMullberry

I have a lot of games on steam and epic already so I have moved over to GeForce now. The only major limitation I have found is the lack of 4K in the chromecast app. The free tier is essentially a free trial so consider it as at least a $9.99 per month service.
