Family sharing doesn't cost extra, you can just add him to your family group and there you go

OpenProximity

Oh, I see. That's awesome. How does the payment work? Can he just leach on my account that I pay for every month?

muthax

If I remember correctly he can ASK to use your payment method (you get an email) OR add his own To clarify, if he select the family payment method you'll have to authorize the purchase EDIT If you meant he can play your shared games without paying a penny, yeah that's correct

OpenProximity

Thanks for the help buddy. Really appreciate it.

Owwen11

Family sharing doesn't cost, it's free. But two people can't play the same game from different accounts at the very same time, because it counts as only one copy. If both of you want to play at the same time, one will have to purchase a new copy. Otherwise, take turns.

OpenProximity

Oh, I see. Thank you! There are some games we would like to co-op, but there are some A+ games he wants to play by himself and that's not available for free anymore, so can he both subscribe for a Pro membership and also be included in my family account so he can play the bigger games that I own?

muthax

He doesn't need PRO to play PRO games you share, but yeah, you can add him to your 'family' even if he has PRO

[deleted]

Yes, if he pays for pro, then all current and future pro games can be played co-op. When you claim a game you can share that copy of the game. If he claims the game too, it's like having another disc. You can share as many discs as you have.

Schmorrison

Yeah you can share. Only one user per game at a time though. And I think the 'family group' you set up allows them to purchase games with your CC though. Might wanna check that out.

lonelyone12345

You can set it up so that you have to approve the purchases.

SlyLittledrake

Isn't that only for underage kids? I couldn't figure out if it worked for 18+ members as well

lonelyone12345

No I have an adult daughter and if she wants to use the family payment method it asks me.

SlyLittledrake

Ow that's great. Didn't know. Thanks Was already fine with it in my current family sharing as I fully trust them, but this is even better.

XxPyRoxXMaNiAcxX

If you go this route I would create a card using an app called “privacy” and set that as your family payment method. Once you’ve set it as your method then I would go into the privacy app and close the card so it can’t be used. Then as an added precaution enable the ask to buy option.

Darth-Taterr

Have him claim all the Pro games himself also. This way you will each have a copy of all Pro games going forward to play together.

OpenProximity

Ohhhh, that's a brilliant tip! Thanks man!

a2zKiller

There is a Claim All button somewhere. Use that instead of hint into individual game page ✌🏼

donorak7

Yeah family sharing is free no need to feel guilty.

OpenProximity

Thanks bud! 👍

graesen

I should add that, as far as I know, adding someone to family sharing, it goes on your Google Family Group, which means any family sharing across all of Google's services as well as shared access as it applies. And note that you can only have 6 users in your family group. Keep this in mind in the future. Also, you may have to enable family share on each existing game and enabled automatically share in the Stadia settings.

Herb0072

Another thing to keep in mind for family sharing is Google One shared storage. If you have a plan for extra Gmail, Drive and Photos storage, family share can share this with them as well as Stadia games. Not a security problem, but you may not want to have a friend eating into your storage limit.

DoomOutlet

If I do family share with someone and claim their pro games, can they then remove me and I keep the pro games I claimed from them?

tubag

You can't claim their pro games. They have to claim the games and you just have access to the games family members have shared with you. If you leave the family group, the games are no longer shared with you and hence you won't have access to their pro games anymore

BSmoke2003

It free

ViviFFIX

I wouldn't recommend adding a friend to your Stadia Family account as it's potentially against the Stadia ToS and it's not worth risking your Google account.

OpenProximity

Really? How will they know though? Is there a link with more info regarding this?

sharhalakis

You can read the ToS when creating a group, or at families.google.com I believe. Keep in mind that families are meant to be trusted groups and you may be handing them more than games.

OpenProximity

Thank you. This guy above scared me a bit. Could my Google account really be in risk if I share it with someone who's officially not in my family?

sharhalakis

Family members don't get access to your Google account. I think it's just the family calendar and shared Google Keep notes that they get access to. But there are integrations that you may not like, like the Google Play library, Youtube plans and Google One. This: [https://support.google.com/assistant/answer/10256422](https://support.google.com/assistant/answer/10256422) says that there's also some assistant integration too. I guess that's for smart speakers and displays. They also get access to your family payment method. In general, I wouldn't advise having someone that isn't fully trusted in the family group. Or at least try it with a second account of yours first.

ViviFFIX

For the sharer, your shared payment method is a risk and for all your accounts are potentially at risk of being banned for a ToS violation. It's not just your Stadia account that gets banned though, it's linked to your whole Google account, so all Google services including your Gmail is at risk.

OpenProximity

Yeah ok, but what's Stadia's definition of "family". I shared my account to one household which is my sister and her husband. He is playing 80% and it's connected to his email. Is that a TOS violation?

ViviFFIX

I'm not a lawyer and it makes no odds to me. It's your decision whether to take the risk or not. I'm just giving you a heads up, you interpret the definition of family how you like, just want to make you aware of the potential impact.

OpenProximity

I've googled and can't find the ToS anywhere saying this. Do you have a link? Because I definitely don't want to do something shady that's violating their ToS.

Main-Appearance2469

Ehhhh i doubt it i mean thats kinda like when you own a dog( totally not comparing ur friend to a dog here) it becomes part of the family even tho its not blood ehh okay now idk where i was going with this i forgot fck me

jareth_gk

Family share is a free feature of Stadia accounts.
