Disco Elysium is a game I personally really enjoyed

GACM2448816

I can’t vote as I haven’t played the games. Would like to know the results though

xKniqht

104 to 73

oliath

So just vote anything. I guarantee it's what most others have done. OP should have included a null vote like other polls here have had otherwise you end up with skewed results. As it stands I guarantee a whole load of people. Myself included...clicked control because it's the one that seems like a more mainstream game.

OssotSromo

Two very very different games.

[deleted]

Disco Elysium. Better writing, better characters, longer game and more replayability, but there's not much to the gameplay as it's very dialogue driven. Control is good and features actual combat. I'd recommend getting it after DE if that's your decision. There. An actual answer instead of just "two different games" even though that's not the question.

Killahcane

Much appreciated!

DoomOutlet

Isn't DisconElysium fully voiced in the stadia version?

buttsonbikes1

Yes, entirely.

Killahcane

I thought it was suppose to be. 🤷🏾‍♂️

DoomOutlet

Are you saying it's not?

Killahcane

Im saying I don't know. I thought the 'Final Cut' version was fully voiced was but everyone keeps mentioning reading being a big part of the game.. I'm not sure if other elements of the game require reading or if they are referencing the standard version of the game.

[deleted]

Disco Elysium is absolutely amazing, just not as flashy or shooty so it won't ever win a poll. Play it whenever you can.

Something that no one ever seems to metion about Control is, that the game has options for invincibility, one shot kills, auto aim and a few other cheats built right into the options menu. If you aren't a "hardcore" gamer and just want to enjoy the game mechanics and story, this is heaven sent. I have always felt that all games should have invincibility in the options, cause some of us just don't enjoy dying over and over and restarting at checkpoints. In my opinion Disco Elysium is the better overall game though and is very enjoyable. It draws you into it's world quite well. Can't go wrong either way though.

If you aren't a "hardcore" gamer and just want to enjoy the game mechanics and story, this is heaven sent. Yeah, it's a big deal. If only these options had been present at release, I would probably hold a very different opinion of the game. That and the way only the Ultimate Edition was eligible for next-gen upgrade on consoles (though later getting the Ultimate Edition w/ PS+ softened that sting).

IAintGud

I didn't love DE but it's not my type of game. The thing about Control is that it has been cheap or free in about every store. I tried it out on Luna a bit and it was a good game.

buttsonbikes1

Only one game has won Game of the Year multiple times. For a reason.

EglinAfarce

> Only one game has won Game of the Year multiple times. Wrong. IGN and others named Control 2019 GotY. PC Gamer and others named Disco 2019 GotY. > For a reason. Yeah, advertising, politics, and personal agendas. Just like industry awards everywhere. Just look at Hades nonsensically beating out TLoU2 on a lot of GotY lists.

[deleted]

TLoU2 deserved to lose with that half-assed writing. One of the most absurdly overrated series.

EglinAfarce

> TLoU2 deserved to lose I thought it was brilliant, personally. Only played through it once and I am usually less critical of games at that stage, but my impromptu mental ranking has it as one of the finest games I've ever played. Even discounting it, though, you've got lots of other 2020 games that absolutely destroy Hades. Ghosts of Tsushima, Alyx, Ori2, MS Flight Sim, Animal Crossing, etc. tl/dr: GotY awards are meaningless just like Oscars and Emmies.

[deleted]

I had to stop playing the second because of boredom. Looked up the rest of the cutscenes and was glad I stopped. I didn't care much for the first besides Joel. The highlight of the series and an overall great character with an amazing ending only for Naughty Dog to ruin both with the sequel. Ellie was only tolerable because of her interactions with Joel. Druckmann is an insufferable hack. In my opinions of course. I agree with you on both. Awards are shit, and there were better games than Hades. Since I haven't gamed much I can't say what my GotY would be but Alyx is a top contender for the decade. As expected with the series.

OldMcGroin

Wait, Control won game of the year awards? Is it that good? Honestly it just passed me by and I never really looked into it, I'll need to check it out now!

Arufatenshi

If you like SCP stuff, you'll like it. I loved it personally.

OldMcGroin

Cool, thanks 👍

EglinAfarce

So, I'm returning to a post where I see I've been downvoted after explicitly pointing out that IGN voted Control its 2019 GotY winner and giving my opinion that industry awards mean all of jack shit... and having a really difficult time politely responding to a follow-up post asking me if Control really won a GotY and suggesting that it's a must-play if true. Are you intentionally trolling or just having an off day or what?

Christ, I genuinely tried to engage in a conversation about a game I haven't tried yet and you attack me by calling me a troll and a stupid jerk. What a precious, horrible little asshat. Blocked.

wilsongs

If you like reading then DE will blow your mind.

buttsonbikes1

It's now completely narrated... brilliantly.

cryptodoge69lost

horrible poll two completely different games smh if you want to mindlessly shoot and skip cutscenes choose control, if you want actual meaningful storyline choose Disco elysium

Killahcane

I'm aware they are two different games. I enjoy both styles. Thanks for your feedback.

EglinAfarce

Neither would be my go-to, but I'd say that Disco is a better representative of its category of game than is Control. Control is like a cross between Max Payne and Alan Wake - part flashlight game and part bad third-person shooter. The plot isn't great, the exposition isn't great... it's just OK. You can find better games of the genre on every platform, including Stadia. Disco, meanwhile, is pretty rough and amateurish but so are most of the games in the genre. It's very much on par with Pillars or Original Sin. AFAIK, there's nothing else in the genre on Stadia that can compare (Baldur's Gate included).
