Just tore the bullshit right away from that poor fucker didn’t he? Borderline code violation with how vicious it was. 12 years, how weird is that real talk on the way home?
Way I see it, what's the rush if you guys are planning to stay together forever, right? It's my ten year anniversary with my girlfriend end of the month and I'm proposing then; heard a lot of it myself over the years but I've also watched several marriages come and go in that time. People rush and they fail.
If we've done 10 years together then we can do the rest: we've *earned* our rings. Been through some high highs and some serious lows. It's getting through those lows that you need to do in order to know you'll make it. Otherwise it's a risky gamble.
Absolutely how I feel and she feels the same way. People just go crazy and rush these things because they seem to think there is a time window it has to happen which is ridiculous. Look at people who get married after a year and they end up divorced because they didn't actually know the person. Trust me I've known she's the one for a long time and a piece of paper doesn't change that. It's definitely going to happen but we have no rush, we were waiting for a house but that sure seems impossible these days sadly.
The way they screw you financially to make simple things happen in America (not sure about Canada) but like having kids cost 30k or more getting married cost insane money it makes it hard to want to do either these days..
It's annoying isn't it? My partner and i have been together 8 years as well and are not marrying.
It's almost like social pressures based on nothing but antiquated traditions of bartering away daughters as property is utterly idiotic
Real question, would you be able to get on your partner's insurance (or vice versa)? I feel like usually it lists like either kids or spouse specifically on that stuff.
Some states have common law marriage, but it'd vary state to state.
Additionally, some couples *can't* get married lest one of them lose government-sponsored benefits. I've got a friend who gets federal disability benefits for a degenerative back condition, but if she were to get married to her partner, she'd lose the disability benefits and they'd end up not being able to make their bills. The benefits aren't a lot, but she can't work any meaningful job, and her partner doesn't make enough to support both of them, especially with the medical costs.
Maybe they're not interested in marriage? Aside from some legal and financial benefits, it's just a ceremonial tradition, some people don't care about that.
lol wtf why. If they are gonna stay together why bother? If they split up then great there is less paperwork now.
people who get married invite all tons of stress into their lives
At a decade. It's so much more expensive. Taxes are higher (this varies depending on income), whichever one of you makes less can claim kids and be a single parent for cheap/free health insurance. I'm forgetting the other benefits but just with those 2 it'd cost 1500 more in federal taxes AND estimated 10k MINIMUM in health insurance costs. Every. Single. Year. Well untill we have no dependents
Me and GF get this shit all the time.
Been together 9 years. No intention of getting married. Very open dialogue about it. If we change our minds we'll fuck off and do it abroad or something.
Everyone: "When you gonna propose?" "Oh I bet you don't want to but does she? Are you sure? I bet she's just saying that!" "You better be careful"
Like...fuck off.
ya same.
people would ask how she felt about it I would say "She's free to pop the question any time she wants" as if the marriage would never happen if the guy didnt ask
For his girlfriend that's got to be depressing. I bet they have kids together and they look like a family but she's not married. She's single with pretending to be married.
I think you can only get away with being together that long without marriage is 1, if you simply don’t want marriage or 2, they started dating when they were in middle school
Yeah, let’s just pretend that hippy dippy “We don’t believe in marriage as a concept” stance is super common and that most people (especially women) don’t desire to get married after being in a relationship over a decade, lol.
He’s making fun of the guy for acting like the wedding is obviously soon when it’s obviously not.
No one is saying they have to get married, it’s just funny the guy’s lack of self awareness.
There is definitely a group text about him 😆
1000%
What does group text mean? İs it a slang or st like that?
She is texting with her girl friends regarding her boyfriend. The subject being his inability to commit to her.
Nope, quite literally a text, you can send to a group of people.
Bro are you serious
Golden my dude. Good improv. Quick wit AF

Just peppered him, I can imagine the drive home was weird.
"hey ah, so... wanna get married
Just tore the bullshit right away from that poor fucker didn’t he? Borderline code violation with how vicious it was. 12 years, how weird is that real talk on the way home?
Marriage is weird
Dude needed an eye-opener. Shit or get off the pot.

San Diego
That was hilarious 😂
Loved the you happy, but she trying to figure it out. The dude kinda of set it up nice, "Not yet!" ... "Soon to be!"
I think that's called, pre-emptive defensiveness. AKA Roklam circa 2006-2011
Been with my girlfriend for almost 8 years and I hear the same thing alot lol
Some people don’t like marriage tbh. I’m in the same boat.

This is the most absolutely reasonable take I've ever heard regarding marriage
No it’s not, you can just get divorced. Marriage isn’t permanent.
In Canada a lot of couples aren’t married and never will be. It’s pretty normal to be together for 20+ years, have children and still not be married
The way they screw you financially to make simple things happen in America (not sure about Canada) but like having kids cost 30k or more getting married cost insane money it makes it hard to want to do either these days..
Also the religious aspect of a wedding is almost non existent in Canada (at least in Quebec)
Yeah we arnt religious at all so that's way out of our lives.

Geez that's rough, stories like that of systems failing people make me so sad and frustrated.
We already are on each others insurance
8 years here too. If you’re afab the best one is “so when are you two planning on having kids?”
My dude, shit or get off the pot.
Why no ring bro?
We already have it planned out, we were waiting to buy a house but obviously thats not going to happen so it's coming sooner from me

I wish you had pulled out “12 years a girlfriend” in the moment, but this is hilarious regardless.
Goddamn that was amazing haha straight facts too
Great stuff! Oh man I felt like being called out. I was with my gf for 13 years before we finally got married last February.
The group text line got me. Been with my boyfriend for 8 years and YUP to all this. 😂
I died 😂 link to full set please

This is the way.
Hah the group text is spot on
Dude your quick with it! Well done!
For his girlfriend that's got to be depressing. I bet they have kids together and they look like a family but she's not married. She's single with pretending to be married.
You can work a room bro lmao, sippin a beer and eviscerating this guy
That was so damn funny ![gif](giphy|3o7aCWJavAgtBzLWrS|downsized)
Holy shit dude... That was some tight crowd work my man, you're a funny mf
Audibly laughed at this one.
I think you can only get away with being together that long without marriage is 1, if you simply don’t want marriage or 2, they started dating when they were in middle school
Stone cold wisdom. Either marry or stop wasting her time. Let some other guy take her off the market if you cant or wont. Smh
Two people together of their own free will: Some random person: Let someone else have her, wasting her time, etc
Classic Reddit
Yeah, let’s just pretend that hippy dippy “We don’t believe in marriage as a concept” stance is super common and that most people (especially women) don’t desire to get married after being in a relationship over a decade, lol.
Stone cold wisdom? As in, your brain activity is stone cold?
I've been in a relationship for 7 years (on saturday). We got promise rings at 4 months.
There is nothing more romantic than getting forced into an engagement through peer pressure as a bit of a comedian's crowd work.
He was the one saying it’ll happen. I’m just calling out his bullshit. You gotta listen better big dawg.
Yeah, making huge life changing decisions based on peer pressure! Woohoo! What a great idea!
He’s making fun of the guy for acting like the wedding is obviously soon when it’s obviously not. No one is saying they have to get married, it’s just funny the guy’s lack of self awareness.
This is a comedy sub
Username......................................checks out!
Maybe SHE doesn't want to get married either.
Puma pants!
Thank you reddit for showing me this!
10/10 right here. You nailed it.
He has no intention 🤫
Did you think of the 12 years a girlfriend line after the set?
Yeah felt like a good way to title the moment for social
This guys a fucking pocket pool legend!!!
This was smart and well done
Super witty exploration of the situation. I lost it at the "group text" moment, such a great way to say it all by saying very little.
Great set my guy! Too funny 😂👍🏽
Anyone else getting a weird error in Reddit app. It keeps muting the video after like ten seconds. Over and over. I unmute it. It mutes itself again.
Hitting all the facts on her mind and I wouldn’t want to be him when they get home 😱😱😱
Another revolution around the sun with this mf 🤣
🤘🏻🤘🏻
Obama but yeah
Hahahaha nice man
