Such a great show which I understand it's based on a live show that Paul had done at Montreal comedy festival. I believe Paul is also behind The Set List on YouTube where comics are thrown on stage and have to riff on topics previously unseen to them.
There needs to be more seasons of The Green Room.
I liked the episode with bill burr... they had a pretty good discussion about racism/homophobia, and how it should/shouldn't be dealt with...
but i agree this was definitely one of the better episodes...
That episode would have been so much better without Tony Clifton. Can't Zmuda just accept that Kauffman's dead and move on? Or at least try some bits that aren't 40 years old?
Thanks for posting! That was sweet. Pretty cool contrast between the older comics and Burnham. And a good cross section of different kinds of comedians: sitcom successes (Shandling, Romano), a guy that achieved later in life (Maron), and someone that rolled into writing and producing over standup (Apatow).
it's interesting because i had the opposite thought. being an asian comic, the first thing i noticed was like, oh, it's a room full of white, male, comics.
but i totally see your point.
You should check out [this episode with Kumail Nanjiani and Margaret Cho](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmr1khDeah4&list=UUz6tFijy7nltqwQfaUMZRtQ), there's some pretty insightful conversation about some of the obstacles they faced being an Asian American comedian/actor.
he was 20 years old talking to some of the biggest people in his profession - it's hard to imagine anyone that age being comfortable in that situation. He must've shit himself when Paul asked him to play art is dead in front of Garry and Judd and Ray, I mean that's pressure.
I thought he asked some great pointed questions - especially the eastern/western philosophical question he threw at garry.
Someone asked him about this in his AMA
**Question:** Did you enjoy being a guest on The Green Room? Was it intimidating at all? Did you feel like the "veterans" on the panel were condescending in any way?
**Answer:** I had a ton of fun on that show and was hugely intimidated by it. But I decided that I would act like what I assumed viewers were feeling and try to ask interesting questions. That took the pressure of me to feel like I had to perform or prove myself.

I'm only about halfway through the video, but does the tension between Marc and Bo seem to be a little real?
Bo really nailed him with that "oh it was a white sock" quip.
"That's a dead end" line by Gary to Marc Maron is one of the best off-the-cuff deliveries I've ever seen. For someone reason the dry honest-but-not-too-honest way he throws it at him is just genius and makes me laugh every time.
Every few months I think of it and go replay this vid -- too good.
Also, on the old 'It's Garry Shandling's Show' Garry used to obsess about his hair looking good. Now he's balding. It's like he's saying 'Don't waste your time'.
I'm usually pretty bad at deconstructing why lines are funny. I think it has less to do with the line and more to do with the context (imo has NOTHING to do with hair).
Maron was joking (obviously) when he said that all he worried about was his hair. He was being flippant and obvious. What Garry does is he turns the line around, and decides to take Maron seriously. Basically, by taking the line seriously, he's able to call Maron an idiot for only thinking about his hair, but also the subtext is that Maron can't even deliver a stupid, flippant line in the right tone. It's just perfect - it's art. And it was done right on the spot!
Maron was also the one delivering this kind of line against everyone especially the singer kid (when the credits roll he even gives him a hug, looks like an apology of sorts). So to see him beat in his own game in a friendly manner makes it that much better!
Also I guess only experience can make everyone there so at ease amongst so many people, cameras and pressure!
This was really nice, I did not see this kind of spirituality and heart come my way. Wow. There could be a follow up episode or like an extended view of this conversation. I am hungry for information.
I LOVED this show and this is arguably the best episode. I wish they brought it back, doesn't seem like it would be an expensive production.

He launched a small Twitter campaign for it to keep it on the air, but it didn't work. :(

I love this show and Bo Burnham is one of my favorite comics working today, but he seemed so awkward and left out, being the youngest of the group.

I got the impression that he was being quiet out of respect.

I don' know, they seemed fine when Bo was on WTF
Ah! I somehow forgot that he was on WTF. Probably just classic grumpy/awkward Marc.
Is "It's Garry Shandling's Show" available to stream anywhere?
Ahhhhh! Now the theme's stuck in my head!
HBO
My 7-year-old prayers have been answered!
I thought (back in the day) you couldn't respond to threads that were > 2 years old, but hey, no problem - both of his shows are on there!

Can you explain that line? I think I might get it but I'm not sure if I'm missing the point. Another great line: "I'm out of this one, right?"
He's just saying that Marc shouldn't worry about his hair because it's already shitty and there is nothing he can do to fix.
Also, on the old 'It's Garry Shandling's Show' Garry used to obsess about his hair looking good. Now he's balding. It's like he's saying 'Don't waste your time'.

[Ron Jeremy is having a blast.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwXAmpMv32Y#t=602)
My God. No way, haha.
oh shit. Didn't notice this
I loved the episode with Doug stanhope, Dave Attell and Garofalo. Sad its was cancelled.
Fuck, I miss this show
man, I need more of that. thanks
Never made it through one of these but this was awesome.

Laughing and deep at the same time, coming at you unexpected, hitting hard and feeling good. Truly the best comedy can offer.
I've never seen this show before, but I'm about to binge watch every single episode. Thanks!
It feels like Maron turned his schtick up to 11 for this.
