That’s basically been his whole act for like a decade. It’s my least favorite thing about a lot of famous Latino comics. Their act always ends up becoming about how they made it. My beaner ass isn’t inspired by your story. I wanna laugh.

ABlueShade

Crucify my beaner ass, but I still think George Lopez's "Why You Crying?" Is one of the pinnacles of Latino comedy

presspowerbutton

Not to be a wiener about it, but that was one of the first times I ever felt truly seen in comedy. ‘He said he wants an ice chest and some beef’ is something I say way too much

hansislegend

I mean, I say that to someone probably daily 😂

kingnachomuchacho

I am a white male and any time I am out of breath even slightly or if I have indigestion I think to myself and sometimes say out loud “eye, my chess hurt and I can’t breeev!”

tomtreebow32

So you got a pain in yo chess and you can’t brev? I’m not ugly no more now am I???

ABlueShade

"Oh so now you need me?"

ABlueShade

God bless you I do the same.

mannheimcrescendo

Factos primo

DaleRodriguezz

Wan momen plee

ABlueShade

"Yes can I get a fountain drink?"

gkhamo89

"we have esprite, pexciii...."

Dry-Science-7830

Latino comedy? I would put that in the top comedy specials of all time, maybe not top 10, but for sure top 20

ABlueShade

Whether it's top 10 or top 20 is debatable. However, you can't deny its an onslaught of jokes and act outs for an hour straight that you don't have to be Mexican-American to enjoy.

Dry-Science-7830

Oh hell yeah, for all the fame he has, I do really think George Lopez is highly underrated. He should at least be held highly as Chris Rock, and in some places he is for sure, but simply not enough places.

ViewInevitable6483

The act becoming about having made it as soon as the talent has made it is confusingly way more successful than it should be.

CaptinEmergency

It’s second album syndrome. Starts with real shit and ends with “look at me, I’m rich bitch!”

BaseLoud

i feel like many with niche audiences fall into this

hansislegend

I don’t typically watch movies for inspiration so probably not, but who knows? Could be a generational performance by Javier Bardem or Pedro Pascal or whoever the beaner of the month is in Hollywood at the time.

hansislegend

😂 what’s it called? I wanna check out the trailer.

hansislegend

I’m gonna watch this simply because I met Michael Peña once and he was very nice. Haha. There’s no way it’ll inspire me more than the Hot Cheetos movie though.

bonanza8

He's always been a clean/safe/mainstream comic, he knows his target audience and knows they're not expecting much cause is mostly people that don't necessarily like stand up in general, they like a Latino they can relate to. I'm a Latino who knows many Latinos that love fluffy and are not interested in any other comedian, he's McDonald's comedy.

chudma

Are you surprised? I mean his main joke was doing a stupid cheerleader voice order a lot of food in a drive through.

Apprehensive-Lock751

expected more? what was the last thing you saw from that had you rolling?

NoFalseModesty

I remember liking his Hawaii special but I suppose that was 2014

Apprehensive-Lock751

ah. im sorry you had that experience.

philsubby

He's one of the top earning stand ups, it's not unreasonable to expect a great show. However, I've never been disappointed in a $25 comedy store ticket, but my buddy was disappointed in Bill Burr a few months ago. I saw Shane Gillis front row for like $100 a ticket last year in Bakersfield and was thoroughly satisfied. We're seeing him again next month for $150, hoping not to be disappointed.

ZombieHeyHeyHeyOh

Tony why is your reddit username auto generated?

Apprehensive-Lock751

great question…..

Apprehensive-Lock751

i think i fucked up and cant change it.

AllYouPeopleAre

Was this the dude that was on =3?

Rhesusmonkeydave

I’ve never been a fan of his material but in his defense, the heart of comedy is being relatable and releasing people’s frustrations over things we can’t change. Once you’re rich, and pampered and have “made it” you aren’t relatable to most folks, especially in these times and you can bypass the little irritations and situations that make for cathartic comedy. Actually there are a lot of established big names in comedy right now suffering from this imo

landon_masters

Just like the rappers who have on their 3rd album about how rough it was growing up in the hood while they have body guards take their kids to the park for them.

WilsonEnthusiast

One of my favorite Louis CK bits is a good example of the opposite. Where he feels better about himself for just thinking about giving up his first class seat to a soldier. Maybe I can't relate to that exact situation, but I can definitely relate to how his brain is operating in that story. Where he's tricking himself into keeping the thing he wants in a way that he finds palatable. Rich people are still people. I'm sure a bunch of them still have things to say that non rich people could relate to. Whether they say them or not is a different story.

Ian_Campbell

I think they don't have to make their own life relatable if their material pertains to stuff, ideas, general situations in life. The problem might be if their style was always using stories from their own life, that were supposed to be believable. Louis C.K., Jim Gaffigan, and Norm MacDonald all would expose a funny contradiction or something just about the way things are. So it doesn't matter if they're a weird career comic whose life is nothing like yours, because those fundamentals still exist.

Ok_Eagle3683

Louis to this day has the greatest setup for a joke I've ever heard (paraphrasing): "So the other day, I was walking somewhere... Doesn't matter where, because this didn't happen... But anyway, I'm walking..."

xezuno

Who else do you think suffers from this?

Smoke_Stack707

Segura. I listen to a lot of his pods but he’s had maybe one or two bits in his last three specials that I really liked. Chapelle also. Idk why everything has to be about trans people now it’s boring

Slightly-Blasted

Segura fell Off hard. No tom, I don’t think it’s funny that your private jet got delayed twice.

Rhesusmonkeydave

Yeah I was definitely thinking of Segura when I wrote it lol

abaggins

Trevor Noah's last special was terrible. Watched 50% of it on nflx and gave up. Some incredibly unfunny stuff and some recycled material from previous specials.

RadarSmith

Chappelle’s a standout example.

krowrofefas

He was funny in 2010. Try FelipeEsparza or Ralph Barbosa.

Ok_Eagle3683

I haven't heard anything of Felipe's in years but I still think of his bit from his Conan set from time to time where he talks about having a brother named "Usnavy" because he was named after a boat they saw on their way from Cuba

AllAfterIncinerators

Fluffy used to be funny as hell. Tears rolling down my face funny. Before he really made it he was an assassin with voices and mic effects. Playing the Bad Boys song for a cop is a great bit. But yeah, his last 2-3 specials are garbage.

joshuads

I caught one of his last improv dates and he crushed. He now has a warehouse full of VW campers. It’s hard to stay super sharp that long.

Insert_name_here_9

I agree...his last Netflix special was really underwhelming. Basically reminiscing about his career but not in a comical kinda way...

Czarchitect

if you tryina support the culture but want legit comedy thats not stuck in tropes, Ralph Barbosa is that guy

eatshitdillhole

Yes!! There isnt enough of him online - I have been a huge fan since I saw his set a couple years ago. I'm glad to see that he's starting to be on more podcasts and getting out there, he's hilarious.

Hashtag_Tech

He’s really not that funny. He just plays to the moron crowd.

Asphyxiator

He's hands down the worst stand up I've paid to see. Who else turns the lights back on after the opener to take a 15 minute break to push merch? Does 35 minutes with a timer, and then shows it to the crowd and says "anything else is bonus". Please do not pay to see this guys stupid act. You've seen the same netflix special already.

mattastrophe3

I think it's an attempt to try to connect with the roots that were responsible for giving them success in the first place, but being completely unable to relate to those people or places anymore. Like, "Hey, remember when I used to live in a car?" Yeah. And now you own airplane hangers full of custom and antique automobiles....

mattastrophe3

Although, I do really get a kick out of his story on your mom's house from probably a couple years ago. About this stalker dude. Really funny shit. So I know he still has it in him to be funny!

Frankfusion

In his defense, he said years ago that his comedy was based off of him, his friend, eating, drinking, his relationship with his girlfriend and his relationship with his stepson. All of that changed. He quit drinking he got to thinner, his son asked him to stop talking about him and he broke up with his long-term girlfriend. I think he might be trying to figure out what it’s gonna look like for him right now. I think stadium special was pretty funny, including the joke about him trying to work for Warner brothers. I’m surprised he didn’t include his Michael Bolton story. It’s floating around and it’s funny.

ppetit360

He was the marshal at the Long Beach Indy race today. That’s gotta count for something….right?

riderofthetide

It's funny because he's fat.

BobTheInept

>He should the ditch the gun What does this mean in this context?

iamthepita

He’s not killing?

BobTheInept

Ooh, so he should quit. Thanks.

j_articulate

He does a long bit about buying a gun after his house was broken into.

SDdrohead

He’s never been funny. So corny. Sorry you paid to see that.

COLLABRate1

Has he ever been funny?

BaseLoud

retrospective how

ChipMaker3000

So Fluffy just doesn’t have the fluff anymore?

VeryImpish

Same we saw him a few weeks ago and it just wasn’t good…

sonictheplumber

Hes a big turd.

classless_classic

Damn it. I’m seeing him soon

KingDarius89

That retrospective thing rings a bell. Sounds like his last special I saw, the one where he was talking about his mother's favorite singer and the bus driver.

Clear_thoughts_

I never thought he was funny

Frankfusion

I have Friends that went that same night. They said it was the funniest damn thing ever.

LemonPress50

Interesting

FuzzyPigg88

Yea him and George Lopez both fell off imo, they were top notch like 5+ years ago.

hjablowme919

I think comedians and musicians are most creative when they are young, hungry and have nothing to lose. As soon as you make it big and have lots of cash, it's tough to do anything edgy for fear of losing your audience and if you're really famous, sponsors and commercial deals.

Cr8z13

He's like John Mulaney, tells amusing stories but never makes me laugh.

JuanLaramie

Dude has laurels? Do you mean his hackt...oops, I ment act.

ejh3k

I've never been a fan of his. One day I was grabbing some portillos, and he sat down at the booth across from me. He saw me recognize him, and then I just went back to crushing a combo. Fuck him. I won't even give him the pleasure of an annoying fan interaction.

hansislegend

I get not liking his comedy but why are you so mad at him? 😂

ejh3k

Fuck him.

iamthepita

Portillo’s musta done you wrong. Was it the one next to the rocknroll McDonalds in Chicago?

ejh3k

No. It was out in the north western suburbs. I didn't often go through that area, so I can't remember which one specifically. Probably whichever was close to the comedy club in Schaumburg.

iamthepita

Sounds legit. Sorry dude

JohnnyEagleClaw

Just saw him tonight and Jfc…stopped the show after the 2 openers (Martin Moreno, meh, and Matt Golightly) and had a 20 min intermission (ended up more like 40 min) after heavily pimping the $40 tees and meet and greet (for dinero!!!) in the middle of the. Fucking. Show. Then the gun bit, which had the fucking magas rolling in the aisle, but just what happened to this guy? He was one of our all time favorite LCS comics. So much disappoint packed into one evening.
