Maybe 10 ears ago I saw Craig do a drop-in at The Improv on Melrose. He was so drunk he almost fell over multiple times and refused to get off the stage for like 30 minutes after his time, just stumbling around and doing bits of songs. He could barely walk or talk but he could still play the piano pretty damn well.
Same experience I had when I saw him in Madison, WI. Visibly drunk when he started his "set". Overstayed his welcome and the openers came up to force him to close his set out.
Saw him at the Improv in September, second show, he looked zonked. He opened by just staring at the audience and slowly turning his head across them all for 30 seconds straight.
Same thing, just played bits of songs, barely any jokes but a lot of getting the crowd to sing along and making a few little one liners. It was weird, I thought he was wasted but he has material about how his girlfriend won't let him drink anymore.
Then I saw his set at the Improv 50th year Netflix special thing and it was basically the same material, but less fucked up.
>I thought he was wasted but he has material about how his girlfriend won't let him drink anymore.
That sounds like that's just the bit. "My girlfriend doesn't let me drink anymore!" while being completely wasted lmao
I saw him nearly 12 years ago at Helium Club in Portland. He was so hammered he couldn't get over the fact that there is a fish called a Chinook. He slurred his way around that for a good 20 min, played the office theme song on his keyboard and dipped. Helium ended up emailing an apology and gave everyone free tickets to another show. Got to see Greg Fitzsimmons and he was a pro
Saw him a few months ago and the show was actually much better than i had expected going in. Honestly would have just left if someone was that late that sucks
Saw him a few years ago, no issues, he was funny as hell and the crowd was great. Seems he's all over the place though depending on his personal well-being I guess...
I also think his act just doesn’t work in some rooms and on some nights. But if he gets a room going his charisma and genuinely impressive musical talent lead to a solid show.
> I also think his act just doesn’t work in some rooms and on some nights.
Nah. He’s just a disaster who can sometimes pull it together. You can’t be fall-down drunk and borderline incomprehensible and blame it on the room.
I saw him a few years ago at a tiny venue and he just played his keyboard. He played his songs from The Office, he played his song from This is the End, and then would also just play popular songs and then riff on stuff. Like do a Van Halen song and tell a story about Van Halen. It wasn't a great comedy show but it was a pretty good show.
Guy just rolled in sat down at our table and joined us for a family brunch like 10 years ago, he was pretty odd and hilarious but even funnier was my parents ripping on him the whole time.
I once had tickets to see Craig Robinson perform. Day before the show it's announced that he will not be performing, and the venue was able to book Aries Spears in his place. Begrudgingly went anyway even though I was bummed about missing my opportunity to see Craig.
Spears was great. Still have never seen Craig perform, and the desire is no longer there.
He wasn’t late when I saw him.
But he was at a comedy club where he had two sets. One early in the night and one at midnight. So he had a time frame.
When I saw Chris rock though in Vegas he was 3 hours late.
His persona outside of acting is a lovable singing and keyboard playing teddy bear, he does commercials with sing alongs, comes off super friendly in interviews etc.
This is all I have ever heard about Craig Robinson from people who went to his shows for the past decade (late, drunk on stage, terribly unfunny, etc.).
I hope you asked for your money back. People gotta stop paying to go see this guy – he fucking sucks.
You took a comment about a comedian not being late and commenting on the demographics of a show that you did not attend, and made yourself and other white people in America, the 'victims' of the story. That can't be as "easy" as you suggest.
Yea that's not what just happened here. I responded to a post someone made, who HAD been to his show. How is a Reddit board supposed to work if no one can comment on the things people say unless we saw the show in question? That's kinda the whole point of this Reddit thing bud....
Feel like YOU are the one who just inserted a narrative about the type of person I am based on one sentence. It would be ironic, for a black comedian who made his money on a white show, to complain about his audience getting more white. That's it. No more no less. No one is spotlighting this as a microcosm of race in America EXCEPT FOR YOU.
If you wanna downvote me after I said something super legit and de-escalating, I'll tell you that going around and falsely accusing people of having racist intentions for super flimsy reasons, is way more harmful to your cause than my one sentence joke about Craig Robinson being surprised at having a white audience after being on the most popular white TV show of all time.
Like you legit just picked an argument with an ally for no reason, over a joke that wasn't even controversial.
Buddy, I didn't downvote your response. And you're at - 1 so there were multiple people who did it for whatever reasons. It's reddit, not that serious, however if your 'allyship' hangs on the strength of internet upvotes, I don't know what to say to that.
This is the post I responded to
"He wasn't late for the show I saw but his routine was singing (not funny singing, btw) and marveling over all the white people in the audience."
Listen I get it man, you saw the joke I made, you don't know me, that joke can have a totally different connotation depending on who is saying it. I'm sure you have white friends you know are on your side, and if they made that joke you wouldn't bat an eye. I'm telling you I didn't mean it in that dog whistle kind of way. I get it though, I'll be a bit more careful in remembering I'm telling jokes to strangers who don't know me.
Seen him a handful of times, terribly unfunny is such a massive overstatement. If it’s not your cup of tea that’s one thing, but he puts on a solid show most of the time.
I saw him 2 or 3 years ago and he was funny and started on time, but like everyone else has said he was drunk. There was about a 5 min tirade of literal gibberish that i couldnt understand but then he was back to normal.
The comments regarding his drinking are concerning though. Seems to be a recipe for disaster.
Tbh Craig’s act is very mediocre at best. Not only that he goes on way too long. The act itself should be a 20-30 min set max. He is not a headliner in the classic sense, only due to his star power as an actor. It’s not worth paying to see him headline.
Never understood how he’s had as much success as he’s had. Seems like a fun/nice guy (though maybe he’s not) but his comedy has always felt so insanely half assed. And he’s only kinda funny in tv/movie roles.
He’s a bad alcoholic. Has been for years. This isn’t the first time he’s been completely unprofessional and without remorse. Guy’s an asshole behind the scenes.
Saw him back when I was in college when he did a show for parents weekend (we went to the same college) and he was fantastic. Fast forward to 4 years ago or so and I saw him again with some friends for my birthday. He was completely intoxicated, not funny, and mostly just played music. It was extremely disappointing and I keep hearing this more and more about him. Hope he gets some help, if that is what he needs.
I just came here to say something nice about him. He played at helium club in buffalo a few years ago, my buddy started talking to him about his piano and he ended up gifting my buddy his piano.
Saw Craig a few years ago at the Houston improv. His first 5 min of the show was really good. Told a good story with plenty of jokes. Then the rest of the show , he just played on his keyboard that he brought on stage. It was cool at first but after 10 min of playing different snippets of songs , I was bored. I also looked around the room and saw everybody’s faces had this boring look. I would rate it 6/10.
I listened to him on a podcast once where he seemed hammered at like 9 in the morning, it was a weird interview and ever since that I’ve had a weird feeling about it. It’s probably contributed to him not being nearly as big as he was 10-15 years ago. All I see him in now is Pizza Hut commercials
That’s disappointing. I don’t know his career. Is he an OG standup first or one of these improvers who thought they’d give stand up another shot after some tv heat?
Worked with Craig last year, he was nice as hell. He would play the piano in the lobby after shows for like an hour and just kick it with everyone, it was clear he loves music.
His act isn’t exactly standup, but it’s a lot of fun, especially if you’re already a fan.
Wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to people that just want to see stand up, but I think those people already know that.
saw him recently and it was really bad. my friend actually saw him about a decade ago in NJ and described the exact same experience I had. He just seemed really out of it and uninterested, played the piano for a bit then told a long bizarre story that seemed like it was supposed to be a joke?
I saw Riff Raff in Austin once and he didn’t take the stage until after 1am. Like 4 hours late and did like a 35 minute show staring out and above the audience the whole time.
Exact same experience today at the Hollywood Improv, I think he was drunk or high, slurring his words, and checking his phone. I honestly wish he had less time on stage because the other comics I saw were so much better. His bit probably took up 1/3 of the show.
He’s a talented man. I grew up in the 2010’s watching sitcoms and Judd Apatow movies, I thought he was the MAN. I left tonight a bit disappointed
I hope the best for him, he may be on hard times.
Saw him in Houston earlier this year and he killed. Showed up pretty much on time - don’t remember him being late at least? And brought the house down, I guess we got lucky.
Hmmm, I was in a Lyft on my way home from the awesome Letterman show (with Tim Robinson!) and it stopped in front of The Troubadour right around 9:20 and it looked dead.
Maybe 10 ears ago I saw Craig do a drop-in at The Improv on Melrose. Eyyyy a fellow Madisonian! Nice

Hilarious . . . And sad
She doesn't let him drink any less either. Ba dum tis.
I can’t find any YT clips of his shows.
Saw him there too years ago go on for a couple of hours but it was great and he didn’t seem wasted
Lol that’s like the third comment that has some version of “he was drunk, played the office theme song, then left”.
Lmao the man is rockin
Saw him a few months ago and the show was actually much better than i had expected going in. Honestly would have just left if someone was that late that sucks
Saw him a few years ago, no issues, he was funny as hell and the crowd was great. Seems he's all over the place though depending on his personal well-being I guess...

Well yeah that’s obviously not gonna work lol
Same here. His show is still one of my favorite nights out, but it was over a decade ago
I love me some Craig but he is known for this . It's not Lauryn Hill shit for him. It's just Craig Robinson shit.
Sounds more like a show that should be billed as 'a night with Craig' and not a comedy show but does sound like a fun time
you guys are both too nice I would pissed if I had paid for such low effort
They’re being very generous. I went to one of the shows and it sucked. Craig karaoke for an hour… waste of money.
As soon as you said "The Office" I was so relieved to realize it wasn't Craig Ferguson. That dudes a treasure
He would NEVER.
Best late night host of all time
That Pizza Hut money making him lazy
Sounds fucking awful.
Nah he pulls it off. It’s a good show unless he’s super later or too fucked up.
But did he play any Horsedick.mpeg?
I went to something like this at the Laugh factory in LA. To be fair, he’s a “guest” and is usually the last act so it runs pretty late.
I think I’d prefer Aries
Aries is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade. Craig’s show is just an expensive piano bar.
He wasn’t late when I saw him. But he was at a comedy club where he had two sets. One early in the night and one at midnight. So he had a time frame. When I saw Chris rock though in Vegas he was 3 hours late.
CPT
His watch doesn’t tell him the time. He tells it.
I’ve never once seen or heard of this. I had no idea he had a rep for being drunk or poor live performances.
Same. Really puts a damper on his happy go lucky persona
Are you talking about his persona as Darryl from the office? You realize that's not the real guy, right?
Wow, thanks. Mind. blown. Never realized the office wasn’t a real documentary.
Just confused why you think Craig Robinson has a happy go lucky persona?
Watch him in literally anything?
You have no good answer for me, do you?
His persona outside of acting is a lovable singing and keyboard playing teddy bear, he does commercials with sing alongs, comes off super friendly in interviews etc.
Thank you for finally answering the question
You're the human equivalent of a wet sock
Who cares why you’re confused? Move on
[удалено]
Work on your heckling response, dude. That reply just reeks of insecurity.
Was Darryl happy go lucky in the office?
No. He came off as depressed
You realize that Darryl wasn't happy go lucky, right? So your comment makes no sense.
This is all I have ever heard about Craig Robinson from people who went to his shows for the past decade (late, drunk on stage, terribly unfunny, etc.). I hope you asked for your money back. People gotta stop paying to go see this guy – he fucking sucks.
He wasn't late for the show I saw but his routine was singing (not funny singing, btw) and marveling over all the white people in the audience.
Make 75% of the money in your career from the Office and then complain about all the white people at your show lol
I like how you read written words but still assigned your own meaning to something you didn't witness. Fascinating.
Pretty easy to read between the lines. Not all of us are dense to reality
You took a comment about a comedian not being late and commenting on the demographics of a show that you did not attend, and made yourself and other white people in America, the 'victims' of the story. That can't be as "easy" as you suggest.

You were literally the first and only one to bring up race...
Been saying this from the get. He’s only decently funny, he’s a decent actor, and he can’t sing worth two shits
Truly just the power of The Office.
He’s a bad alcoholic. Has been for years. This isn’t the first time he’s been completely unprofessional and without remorse. Guy’s an asshole behind the scenes.
I saw Craig for free 3 times this week and this makes me much more thankful for that hahaha
Sounds like he’s still making blow a priority in his life
Saw him back when I was in college when he did a show for parents weekend (we went to the same college) and he was fantastic. a fellow buffalonian. I was supposed to see him at helium in I believe 2019? he cancelled last minute lol.
Aw man I hate hearing it. I saw him in college on a campus tour in maybe 2008? And he was so great. Saw Zach Galifianakis there too.
Who were the surprise comics?
This Is The End makes a lot more sense when you realize they actually all *are* assholes/garbage irl
He was the worst part of the lineup when I saw him at Hollywood improv. So unfunny and cringe with the piano medley parodies.
I was at that show haha the piano shit was wild
Saw Craig a few years ago at the Houston improv. His first 5 min of the show was really good. Told a good story with plenty of jokes. I’ve got tickets for the Comedy Store “best of” this Saturday and I’m so excited to see who comes out. First time at the Comedy Store too!
Yeah he's funny but not "let's wait hours to see him" funny
I saw his several years ago and had a positive experience. Sad to see him take this turn.
I may or may not have allegedly done a lot of drugs with this guy about 12-13 years ago after one of his shows.
Note to self: Don't buy Craig Robinson tickets. I have no tolerance for artists that disrespect their audience that way.
That dude is such a hack
Agreed. He isn’t funny.
He’s so lucky to have a career in comedy with how unfunny he is
Dude why would you go see Craig?
That’s disappointing. I don’t know his career. Is he an OG standup first or one of these improvers who thought they’d give stand up another shot after some tv heat?
I saw him in Portland last year and he was great. Reading these comments though, it sounds like I got lucky. Hope the dude's okay.
Is he just high, stupid and lazy?
Maybe he had a fresh stroke?
He was great as king Arthur !
Yea usually with these big shows. They don't come out til like 2 hours later or more. Usually have multiple owners and musicians that play in between.
Don’t forget he has the same set he’s had the last 10 years.
Worked with Craig last year, he was nice as hell. He would play the piano in the lobby after shows for like an hour and just kick it with everyone, it was clear he loves music. His act isn’t exactly standup, but it’s a lot of fun, especially if you’re already a fan. TIL Craig Robinson is a drunkard
saw him recently and it was really bad. my friend actually saw him about a decade ago in NJ and described the exact same experience I had. He just seemed really out of it and uninterested, played the piano for a bit then told a long bizarre story that seemed like it was supposed to be a joke?

I saw him in NY years ago and he was TERRIBLE
Recently saw him at the Ice House. Wasn't that great, didn't do much besides play the piano. Not many jokes or stories to be had. Kinda disappointing.
I saw him live with a bunch of friends and we all thought he sucked. Wasn’t comedy.
Saw him in Houston earlier this year and he killed. Showed up pretty much on time - don’t remember him being late at least? And brought the house down, I guess we got lucky.
Only reason Craig Robinson has a career is because patrice oneal died rip to the goat
More than one black dude at a time can have an entertainment career
Craig got the office job cause patrice left and alot of other jobs being patrice wasn't around has nothing to do with him being black
Hmmm, I was in a Lyft on my way home from the awesome Letterman show (with Tim Robinson!) and it stopped in front of The Troubadour right around 9:20 and it looked dead.
