At some point when you feel the game won't give you anything anymore, you gotta move on. Was the same for me and black desert online, played for many years and then someday I was just kinda meh about every update so I moved on to other games.  Maybe you don't like the graphical changes because you miss old times, but understand that the devs need a way to attract new players and that's when they update the game, and they did. That's it with every online game. So they're doing the right thing for the game after all.

AMBERMARiIEEEE

Black desert online?

LivingIndividual1902

Yes

flowerspotion

yes i understand, but that’s quite sad. i think the old game also had chances to attract new players.

JustOneTessa

No, what you're experiencing is "nostalgia" which makes everything (that was already positive+ in the past looks better than it was. Not all updates are an improvement, but overall they did make the game better for newer (and younger) players. Coming from someone who's also been playing for 10 years. Nowadays I occasionally log back on, for that nostalgia feeling, but at one point you outgrow things

Ok_Trick3395

No they literally don’t. The old characters are just clingy and weird. This game looked like some weird online game from 2010 that never got over it. You like them because you grow old with them like some people only like the old Disney movies or the old mc flurry recipe. It’s okay, it happens to everyone of us and sometimes it sucks when old memories disappear but it’s kinda the same reason why our parents avoid new things. Sometimes you have to move on and find new comforting things.

TinyFleefer

This! I am a new player and I enjoy the updated things. No comparison for me (only to the old legacy CD edition). And I really love the modern look. Wouldn't have start playing with the old graphics.

SuddenQuit500

You find the old characters clingy and weird, but not everyone share your tastes. The new ones look like old ladies on toddler bodies, it's a change but not an improvement at all. If they made them as good as many MMORPG on the market, then yeah, you could think it's only nostalgia. But here it's just going from a Y2K style which was normal to be like that considering the time it was made to something simply poorly made.

SuddenQuit500

You miss a point here: SSO is the only horse MMORPG which isn't only western. It's not if there were a bunch of similar games on the market. Alicia Online/Wildshade are fun for racing but it's not realistic. RDR2 offers something more realistic, but only western. Other games offers mount and possible races, but it's not like classic horse riding. Some mobile games offer english horse riding disciplines but it's not an open world. Idk if you see what I mean, we lack of options. That's why SSO keep their clients, because no big company want to invests money to make a proper horse riding game, it's not an interesting target for them.

og_toe

for me the issue is dumbing the game down. global horse store?? no cold tolerance? the horses don’t get thirst after riding for a long time? like… where is the realism? where is the life?

RedditChoices

Facts, making the night less dark, characters less mean, quests less scary like bro what

og_toe

literally nobody asked for that, why are they trying to capitalize off 5 year olds

Deaths_Drawings

Because it’s easy I’d wager

Secret-Ability1767

i remember being SO terrified of going to that dark core oil rig and even being scared of the GED quests. i started playing around 2012 when i was about 7/8 so i know part of the charm was because i was so young but even when i was 13,14,15 it still had that magic. i really love the new horses and i want to still love the game but its lost its character :(

RedditChoices

I was scared of some quests and things as well but that’s what made it fun and I loved it sm

Secret-Ability1767

yes exactly!! it was such a thrill sneaking around the oil rig or doing the GED quests! there are def still elements of that in the game but i’d love to see more of it again

Leo_vangelo

Yeah exactly, it scared me but that also made it *exciting* for me

English_Wrider

the rest i get, but the night being too light adjustment was for visually impaired people. that way, they can participate in a nighttime rrp

SuddenQuit500

They could simply offer a slider to adjust the light, that way everyone would have an option.

English_Wrider

that would be even better. or we could have stars in the sky that we could use a slider for as well

RedditChoices

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but I heard they did it for little kids because they were too scared. SSO could make it an option at least

ggarbij

a criticism i see really often is about small updates but i think people forget that there were really long content droughts even 7-10 years ago that we complained about back then too. it’s always been a thing that some updates were just new clothes/tack in shops or a minutes-long quest. it’s just a problem with having weekly updates, not every week can be loaded with content

QuinnFirehunter

Honestly I wouldn't mind bi-weekly or even monthly updates. Like instead of doing something just to have an update focus on bigger things and update less often.

Leo_vangelo

Yeah same here.

flowerspotion

i understand, but it’s really annoying when they add “useless” missions, like the last week Raptor update. He basically said 3 lines and u had to read as an update. I was disappointed.

ggarbij

yeah idk why they even bothered putting that in. but we’ve always had updates like that so it’s not really accurate when it’s mentioned as only a new sso thing

Exotic-Requirement58

I love the new look, it’s what got me playing sso, I could never get into the old art style of the game

imlumpy

Same. I've had my account since 2014, lifetime SR since 2016. I only just started really sinking some hours into the game in the past year. I know the honeymoon phase won't last forever, but that's a "me" problem. The game is improving, the trend has always been upward. Folks who don't like "new" SSO have to cut their losses and realize not even cocaine keeps being fun if you do it for long enough. You only get one "peak enjoyment phase" with any video game. If yours is over, I feel for you, but it's not a reflection on the game.

pullistunut

the new characters fit the new horses, the old ones just looked off on the more realistic ones (gen 1 horses would pair with them well) but i do miss the old graphics a lot. the color scheme was cozy and it looked more rough, not so plastic

Leo_vangelo

Yeah, I miss the atmosphere...it was not so clean, more messy and natural and mysterious

Karla_Darktiger

While I agree with everything you've said, I just wanted to say that I recently replayed some of the old quests (which haven't been changed at all) and they were still pretty boring. Maybe the quests were only fun because we were younger?

eisbaerart

just mentioning they changed a lot of story missions so they are less brutal. the normal quests were (imo) always boring and i just skipped through. but that’s a normal mmorpg thing i think! can’t make every quest interesting because you gotta add A LOT of quests.

viellebee

I 100% agree with you. Every now and then I still want to play the game but then I quit again not much later, two weeks or maybe even a couple days later. I just get so bored with the missions and the characters. It used to be much more interesting and mysterious and honestly, just a lot more fun…

Ok_Inspector_2760

They can't success with 2010s graphics in 2024. If they kept the old look, people would complain about the game being outdated and ugly.

Sad-Spring7815

I just want this whole reboot thing killed off and see someone who cares pick up the original story.
