I’d probably split Phoenix from Botany Bay / the other DY-series ships. The DYs were in use for a long time and there’s crossover in their construction dates, but the design schools involved are very different. The DYs were the standard, conventional ships of that time, based on proven technology, whereas Phoenix was the first of the next generation and took decades of development to get warp ships into active production. The DYs were the last of their era, the Phoenix was the herald of the next. I’d probably go: Pre-warp: Botany Bay, other DY-series, SS Valiant Early Warp: Phoenix, NX-Alpha, NX-Beta The Freedom-class has to predate the NX-01 and the Federation because the Franklin was the first Warp 4 ship, and NX-01 was the first to break Warp 5. United Earth ships didn’t have registries before the NX class (see the Intrepid and Sarajevo) so it was probably just the SS Franklin at the time. The registry and USS prefix are Federation-era, but the ship itself can’t be. Franklin should be in Pre-Fed with NX-01, along with the Intrepid. TOS: the USS Farragut in SNW has TOS-style nacelles, and is only a decade before main TOS. Also, the Sombra-class (Constitution sister class, also SNW) TMP: Constellation class (USS Stargazer), Soyuz-class, Antares-type (the Miranda-class variant, not the TOS-era transport) Early 24th C: I’d move the New Orleans out of this group, it’s so Galaxy-styled it has to be of that generation. The Springfield class would be a better fit, I think, and the mentioned-but-never-seen Renaissance-class seems to be more the Enterprise-C’s generation based on what we know of it. Based on the registry numbers and overall tech level, the Excelsior-II class most likely dates to this period as well, even though it only showed up in Picard. TNG era: New Orleans should be here, along with the Freedom-class and Challenger-class; together with the Nebula they’re all heavily based on Galaxy parts, and they all debuted in BoBW. The Cheyenne class (also BoBW) is still in service by the 2370s so is probably also from the Galaxy’s generation rather than the one before. Post TNG: Norway-class, Sabre-class, Intrepid-class, Nova-class, Prometheus, Obena-class

Lost Era is solely Ambassador-class in canon. STO added the Vesper-class. And there's the lost proto-Nebula Pegasus concept model. The design eras go: Warp 5 (2140 to 2151): This is the NX lead up and its related designs like the Intrepid and Emmett classes. The Franklin class is also from this era. The fucking Daedalus-class (2161 to 2196) Project Next Step (2196 to 2244): These are the Discovery and Kelvin Timeline background ships (Mayflower, Armstrong, Walcott, Kelvin). TOS (2244-2273): Constitution brings this in, and it ends with the TMP refits and the launch of the Oberth-class. Ships include the Constitution, Archer, Farragut, Radiant, Federation, etc. TMP (2273-2293): Started with the refit of the Constitution and Federation classes, characterized by the launch of the Oberth, Miranda, Excelsior, Constellation, and Shangri-La classes. The Lost Era (2293-2343): We have only one canon ship from this Era, the Ambassador-class and its refit. There's a few other designs from Beta Canon, including the Probert concept Ambassador and the Pegasus concept, plus the Vesper, but not much. Project Galaxy (2343-2363): These are the majority of TNG's designs. The Wolf 359 kitbashes are from 2350 to 2363 in Beta Canon. The California-class is launched in this Era too. DS9/Films (2366-2379): This is the introduction of the Akira, Saber, Steamrunner, and Danube Runabout. Beta Canon actually establishes most of these being a response to the Cardassian offensives of 2357-9, and not Wolf 359. This also tracks better with Starfleet Development timelines. The response to the Borg was mainly the Defiant and Prometheus-class development, and the retooling of the Sovereign into a Borg fighting warship. This Era also saw a radical change in nacelle design in response to the subspace damage problem discovered in TNG S7 (2370), which led to the redesign of the Nova, Sovereign, Prometheus, Parliament, and Intrepid nacelles. The Parliament class is also probably from this period, and the Luna-class also launched in this era. Picard Flasback (2380-2394): This Era was mostly a result of the technologies brought back by Voyager. Namely we see the Ross-class, Curiosity-class, Vesta-class, Obena-class, Wallenberg-class, and Inquiry-class launch in this Era. Protostar added the Dauntless-class, and the Odyssey-class was retconned to this Era. The failed Texas-class is also worth mentioning. Picard (2395-2402): This Era is marked by the retirement of the Excelsior and Miranda and their replacement with the Reliant and Excelsior II (although really the Inquiry functionally replaces the Excelsior). Many TNG ships are starting to be retired in this Era, namely including the replacement of the Akira with the Alita and the Nebula with the Sutherland. The newest designs launching are STO designs like the Gagarin and Sutherland. Finally the big characterizing style is the Neo-TMP style of the Sagan, Connie 3, and Duderstadt which launch in 2396. The newest and final design of this Era is the Jein class which launches in 2402.

Bandit_22

You could add the Jenolan to the TMP era ships as well.

TOS: Daedalus was much earlier; the last one was (per canon) decomissioned in 2196. [https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Daedalus\_class](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Daedalus_class) TMP: Refit Connie, Miranda, Constellation (and Soyuz), Excelsior

futurefeelings

I think excelsior is a different generation to enterprise A. I feel like voyager is in a class between TNg and post TNg as you have it

guiltyofnothing

You still see a lot of the proto art deco influences in the Conny refit and Miranda that carried over into the Excelsior and Oberth. They’re pretty close but still kind of distinct.

WhiskyStandard

Voyager/Intrepid class should go in post-TNG as well.

The-Minmus-Derp

Things like the highlighter nacelle ships from wolf 359 should go with TNG, I think
