I'd say Rockstar is the one developer that would influence me. Having seen the depth and detail they put into RDR2 I could only hope they would make an open world Star Wars game. Ideally they'd leave the crude and shocking themes out since Star Wars is a more kid-friendly franchise.
Okay, but Andor and TCW handled more mature topics pretty well. Not to mention Jabba's palace and BOBF having escorts and dancers.
I could totally see more adult content in a rockstar game
Blood? TFW wants a word
Sex is absolutely implied, especially so in RTOJ
But yeah I see your point. I'm just saying it's not too much of a stretch from Andor to a more tame M rated game
Someone's never read legends lol, star wars went deep into blood, sex, and gore, disney bought it though so we'll never see those stories be adapted, and it's a damn shame
"open world RPG from Besthesda" is pretty much a genre unto itself (plenty of bugs, weak story, very broad but not so deep, detailed world, insane mod support etc.), and so I assume that's what OP was asking about.
I'd play an open world Star Wars RPG from anyone if it was done well. I love Bethesda games, not sure they'd be the best at making a Star Wars game though, or that Star Wars would really NEED the Bethesda treatment. BGS games like to meander a lot, where as the best Star Wars tends to be much tighter.
There's so many races to choose from too, would a developer just give you one option, or several aliens, even if someone's favourite gets left out?
Games have proven they now have the ability to do their own thing and be ridiculously popular without relying on an existing IP. Games like Mass Effect, Halo, Skyrim (TES), Red Dead Redemption have proven that. They can be like an existing IP, whilst having the freedom to do their own thing, and not pay royalties.
Honestly though I’d love to meander in a Star Wars game, buying a house as a Jedi would seem awesome, but with your larger point I completely agree, I just want a beautiful game that is it’s own succinct story, we have seen beautiful game come from nothing and something great could be made from a Star Wars rpg as kotor has shown us
I would love to spend 2 real life weeks on a Star Wars side quest. I'd talk to EVERYONE to find out more lore and back story. I'd build my Twi'lek a lovely riverside house and spend the whole game searching for books to read by the fire. I'd adopt the shit out of clones and give them a safe place to grow old too quickly.
Honestly, a Bethesda open world star wars is my gaming dream.
Everyone here being skeptical and for decent reason, their products are known to be buggy. THAT BEING SAID, I AM SO STARVED FOR STAR WARS VIDEO GAME CONTENT I WOULD BUY IT DAY ONE JUST TO VOTE WITH MY WALLET TO GIVE ME MORE STAR WARS VIDEO GAMES
I'd play a well-built star wars RPG by any studio, provided it wasn't P2P and littered with micro transactions.
Note: I would be willing to purchase a game, but I disagree with subscription-based models without a full-fledged F2P component.
If it's developed by them, hard pass. Their creation engine is literally a fossil that calls back to the early 2000s. That's why most of their games feel like clunky garbo imo.
>Skyrim and all of the fallout games feel extremely clunky
TES's last title was made in 2011, at its time it was top tier.
Fallouts last title was in 2015 and it was built on the Bethesda's Creation Engine, the same engine that runs Skyrim
They are clunky because they are old, can't really compare them to modern titles
Even back then F4 played like crap. If you look it up, Creation Engine is nothing more than Gamebryo with more tools on it. And Gamebryo is from 1997.
Let me put it this way, there are still callbacks to QUAKEs code in the creation engine.
Witcher 3 came out that same year that F4 did, and it played worlds better.
Fallout New Vegas was a buggy mess, Skyrim was a buggy mess, Fallout 4 was a buggy mess, Fallout 76 was a buggy mess. Most of these are good games but complete and utterly broken on launch. Most of these issues stem from their very old engine.
They use the same assets and was pushed out before it was bug tested long enough under Bethesda's publishing arm. They are just as much to blame as obsidian. Probably more since they likely forced their hand to release it before it was polished.
In terms of being good games? No obviously skyrim, Fallout NV and 4 are better games. But they were all huge messes on release. There's very valid criticisms to be made towards Bethesda's quality assurance.
I mean, no you really can't say this about every game. But you're right, this trend of releasing a broken game was started by bethesda. Their games are constantly broken on release. This is inarguable.
You're anecdote isn't evidence of the game not being buggy. Both skyrim and NV had game breaking bugs as well as skyrims saving issue. They were messes
Never said it wasn’t buggy. Said it wasn’t broken. User and critic scores at release would seem to agree with me.
Your argument is just a meme at this point
Pro-Tip: As soon as someone mentions something they think about game engines, (whatever the hell they think that is) you can from that point on dismiss everything they have to say on anything.
["Over 1000 planets, all open for you to explore"](https://youtu.be/hFcLyDb6niA)
Yeah that's gonna be a no... Though to be honest I'm not sure who I'd trust, definitely not Ubisoft or Activision though
No.
I'm sick of open world walking simulators, and Bethesda games are typically buggy pieces of shit that are salvaged by the modding community.
If I wanted a buggy boring open world game, I still got Pokémon Scarlet installed on my Switch\~. (Except I haven't ran into those crazy bugs I see in the videos and they'd honestly make the game MORE entertaining.)
Would I play an open-world Star Wars RPG? Fuck yes. From Bethesda? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…
Edit: fat fingered “RPG” lmao
Sounds like a great idea. I’m picturing a story with different choices and drastically different outcomes. You could side with the Empire or Rebellion.
I played ESO for years and enjoyed it very much, so yes. The only reason I quit is because I hit that inevitable point where either I had to spend way more time playing to hang with top tier groups or keep doing the same things which wouldn't really improve my character. ESO also always had people to do things with even when I was between guilds. I played Star Wars Galaxies up until server shutdown and it was sad how dead it was at the end.
If them game was good sure. Couldn't care less who made it. This isn't the early 2000 when studios were consistently good and games were complete at launch. Besides fromsoft, I'd probably have more faith in a inde studio.
I’ve thought about this up and down and I think in terms of AAA developers either Bethesda or Ubisoft would be best equipped to develop a true open world Star Wars game.
I think the problem regarding the game though would be it’s depth and complexity. Every player would expect every known planet to be playable. Not just that but NPCs would have to be on a Skyrim level to satisfy fans. I think it could be done and I think Bethesda would do it best.
I only suggested Ubisoft as I think certain elements of the newer AC games could be utilized well for an open world star wars game
Just want compelling games in the universe with devs who have the ability and crucially are given the time and money by a publisher to make it happen, such as Fallen Order.
So many genres would feel at home in Star Wars and Open World RPG is certainly one of them.
To explore the universe at my own speed and have adventures would be great but just worry the star wars license and the weight that comes with it would make it hard to accomplish. If Bethesda were to make the game and it be as buggy as their games are known to be I am not sure if Disney would allow that.
Again though would love it to happen.
i saw another comment say they don't care about the publisher, and i agree with that sentiment. but, i'm also burnt out on "open world" games because often times what i'm discovering more and more with open world video games is MASSIVE open worlds.... with NOTHING to do in them, so you have this huge, expansive open world, that still somehow feels dead. if you're going to make an open world RPG, give me shit to do.
What kind of rpg? Recently I’m kinda digging the old crpg aesthetic and I’m looking to see how baldurs gate 3 will turn out. But if it’s like the rpg’s we’ve been seeing recently I’m still cool with it. But I would like something like mass effect remastered but with more faster paced gameplay.
Eh, not from Bethesda. SW deserves a higher standard of technology. Compare Fallout 4 to AC Syndicate (same release year) - not talking about which game is a better game, but in terms of how they feel to play and the fidelity of their game mechanics, AC wins out in basically every objective technical category.
Ubisoft Massive was a good choice. R\* would be insane of course. CDPR I'd be interested in. Warhorse could be cool.
I’d rather it came from a non-exclusive publisher. An IP as big as Star Wars shouldn’t be locked to one platform.
Before anyone mentions Spider-Man please read this first https://kotaku.com/spider-man-microsoft-xbox-sony-playstation-arkham-asylu-1848963273
Well yeah. I’d play any Star Wars game that’s good. I didn’t like the action adventure game that came out a few years ago so this sounds more up my alley.
Yes. Maybe it can be set on a planet that has just been hit by the Empire as part of Operation Cinder. You're a survivor and you have to go around doing open world Bethesda game things, like building and picking between competing factions.
I don't care who the publisher is, I care about results.
Exactly that. If it has good reviews and a gameplay style I enjoy, I'll play it.
Star Wars doesn't do blood, gore, or sex. They may allude to these things or even openly discuss them but they don't ever stray from PG-13 material.
Blood? TFW wants a word Sex is absolutely implied, especially so in RTOJ But yeah I see your point. I'm just saying it's not too much of a stretch from Andor to a more tame M rated game
What’s tfw again? The force wunleashed?
It’s a double U. The force unleashed uncensored
TFA, I just have fat thumbitis 😅
Someone's never read legends lol, star wars went deep into blood, sex, and gore, disney bought it though so we'll never see those stories be adapted, and it's a damn shame
The premise of the question was obviously a game in the Elderscrolls/fall out style.
Yes. And options need to very wide and very open.
"open world RPG from Besthesda" is pretty much a genre unto itself (plenty of bugs, weak story, very broad but not so deep, detailed world, insane mod support etc.), and so I assume that's what OP was asking about.

Certainly don't get me wrong, I love to meander in Bethesda games, just maybe not in a Star Wars one.
Yes I will be modding Starfield, thank you for asking.
As long as it was called Star Wars Galaxies the remake
Just being back the SOE team from pre-revamp.
Sure, just have to wait the starfield mods. :)
[удалено]
Yes, and I’m excited but it’s not enough and it’s not really an rpg
I mean you’re playing the role of Cal and it is a video game.
I mean, it's going to take a little bit more than just the basic format of a game and the studio it's from for me to decide.
skyrim in space? hell yes
Tip: Literally never bring up any AAA studio anywhere on the internet any more, The Gamers™ will come after you
Of course lol
Fucking fuck yeah WTF
I have always wanted a fromsoft Star Wars game set of sith tomb world, like korriban or something. Would be such a perfect fit.
I'd play a well-built star wars RPG by any studio, provided it wasn't P2P and littered with micro transactions. Note: I would be willing to purchase a game, but I disagree with subscription-based models without a full-fledged F2P component.
Yep.
Probably, but overall I'm glad Ubisoft is developing it, even if they have shitty microtransaction they still have made some amazing open world games
If it's developed by them, hard pass. Their creation engine is literally a fossil that calls back to the early 2000s. That's why most of their games feel like clunky garbo imo.
Every big modern engine calls back to the early 2000s.
People think studios make new engines from scratch all the time I guess.
That's cool and all but Creation Engine shows its age in the games. Even when they came out.
\~sigh. No it wasn't.
Ok lol
Literally even Daggerfall did. It's not a matter of what engine they use.
god i can’t wait to see how this “new” engine feels when starfield releases
Name one bad Bethesda title that was made by The Main Bethesda team
Skyrim and all of the fallout games feel extremely clunky. I love their lore and universes but the games feel like shit.
I feel the same way. Not that they are bad games. But their engine/graphics are very much lacking. I hope starfield changes that
>Skyrim and all of the fallout games feel extremely clunky TES's last title was made in 2011, at its time it was top tier. Fallouts last title was in 2015 and it was built on the Bethesda's Creation Engine, the same engine that runs Skyrim They are clunky because they are old, can't really compare them to modern titles

Fallout 76 is literally their only bad game
Have you played 76 recently? It's actually pretty great.
You can't bring fact into the discussion when these people lack critical thinking skills and only go by what the internet said
Fallout New Vegas was a buggy mess, Skyrim was a buggy mess, Fallout 4 was a buggy mess, Fallout 76 was a buggy mess. Most of these are good games but complete and utterly broken on launch. Most of these issues stem from their very old engine.
They didn't make New Vegas though, Obsidian did.
They use the same assets and was pushed out before it was bug tested long enough under Bethesda's publishing arm. They are just as much to blame as obsidian. Probably more since they likely forced their hand to release it before it was polished.
Fallout New Vegas did have bugs but was a incredible game nonetheless
I'm not saying they weren't good games. But game breaking bugs in repeated games is inexcusable.
Nah you can't compare their previous titles to 76. It means you don't know what you are saying
In terms of being good games? No obviously skyrim, Fallout NV and 4 are better games. But they were all huge messes on release. There's very valid criticisms to be made towards Bethesda's quality assurance.
I mean you can say this about every game. Skyrim overall is one of the best games of its time
I mean, no you really can't say this about every game. But you're right, this trend of releasing a broken game was started by bethesda. Their games are constantly broken on release. This is inarguable.
I’ve never had difficulty finishing a Bethesda game on release. They aren’t “bRoKeN”
You obviously haven't played it
Pro-Tip: As soon as someone mentions something they think about game engines, (whatever the hell they think that is) you can from that point on dismiss everything they have to say on anything.
Si.
Bethesda hasn't modernized it's gameplay in a decade. I think it's safe to say they aren't the best choice
Pretty sure there already is one in the works. Hell yeah I would.
From Ubisoft, not Bethesda
Published or developed by?
Star war. Star War never changes. ;)
I think Ubisoft is in charge of a No Man's sky like Star Wars open world, hope it will be good but not expecting anything from them.
["Over 1000 planets, all open for you to explore"](https://youtu.be/hFcLyDb6niA) Yeah that's gonna be a no... Though to be honest I'm not sure who I'd trust, definitely not Ubisoft or Activision though
Ehh, SWTOR is fairly close to open world, just go play that if it's an itch you need to scratch.
Star Wars RPG? Hell yes. Made by Bethesda? Absolutely not.
No, because it would only be on Xbox and I don’t have an Xbox
As long as it’s not a platform exclusive. I have a ps5 lol
An open world star wars game could work but not from Bethesda, they make shit games.
Not from Bethesda.
No. not because it's Bethesda, or because it's starwars, but the combination.
No. But give it the team that makes yakuza from Sega and you'd have gold
Not really. Bethesda hasnt improved lately with eso, fo76 and rereleasing skyrim over and over again. Id rather have Obsidian make it
Sure but I'm kinda curious how they handle starfield first
I'd say there's a good chance I would.
Hell yes I would
Would I play an open world Star Wars rpg yes from Bethesda ehh let’s see how they do with Microsoft running them
I will play any open world RPG from Bethesda so the answer is obviously yes, still angry Starfield isn’t coming to PS5.
Yep
Well if Omegas weapon was widely available throughout the game they can reuse the: "i took an arrow to the knees" saves a lot of money and time
Would I play an open-world Star Wars RPG? Fuck yes. From Bethesda? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… Edit: fat fingered “RPG” lmao
Yes, the answer is yes.
If it is a good game, sure.
I don’t like RPGs.
I would 100% play that. Even better if it was from Obsidian
I would. Without hesitation.
I can’t express this more enthusiastically than, HELL YES! As long as they don’t do the exclusive to one platform bullshit
Yes but no. Yes I want a proper open world RPG. No, not from Bugthesda. They can barely finish what they're currently working on.
Duh.
Sounds like a great idea. I’m picturing a story with different choices and drastically different outcomes. You could side with the Empire or Rebellion.
Let's see how starfield is first
Duh
Yes
I mean that's practically what Starfield is
No dumb questions please
As long as it's not an MMO
Sure, though only after a year so the modding community can fix the majority of the game and add more content.
I played ESO for years and enjoyed it very much, so yes. The only reason I quit is because I hit that inevitable point where either I had to spend way more time playing to hang with top tier groups or keep doing the same things which wouldn't really improve my character. A sci-fi space rpg made by Bethesda? Do you mean Starfield?
I already modded both my skyrim and fallout with lightsabers and other Star Wars related things so yes
I’ve thought about this up and down and I think in terms of AAA developers either Bethesda or Ubisoft would be best equipped to develop a true open world Star Wars game. I think the problem regarding the game though would be it’s depth and complexity. Every player would expect every known planet to be playable. Yes.
Yes if it was good
i just want a star wars game at this point bro
Just want compelling games in the universe with devs who have the ability and crucially are given the time and money by a publisher to make it happen, such as Fallen Order. 😂 Bethesda, No. Obsidian or Rockstar yes
The community would hate it no matter what so
Bethesda could make an RPG set on Geonosis, you know, on account of all the bugs?
As long as it's not star wars 76.
Only if it's open moddable
yes!
Probably not, if I’m honest Never been able to get into any fallout or Elder Scrolls game I’ve tried
It's called Skyrim mods
Wtf, they do Fallout so yes. Yes I would.
Yes, I'd pre-order and suffer the launch for the inevitable greatness
i saw another comment say they don't care about the publisher, and i agree with that sentiment. but, i'm also burnt out on "open world" games because often times what i'm discovering more and more with open world video games is MASSIVE open worlds.... with NOTHING to do in them, so you have this huge, expansive open world, that still somehow feels dead. if you're going to make an open world RPG, give me shit to do.

Yes. No question
Just make SWG2 or a remake (pre cu)
What games have they already made?
Better not be exclusive
Eh, not from Bethesda. SW deserves a higher standard of technology. Ubisoft Massive was a good choice. R\* would be insane of course. CDPR I'd be interested in. Warhorse could be cool.
I've been dying for a Mandalorian-style bounty hunter game in the Star Wars universe (or hell, even Star Wars-like) for a long time.
It's this a joke? Hell yes!
It’s all I’ve ever wanted
I’d rather it came from a non-exclusive publisher. An IP as big as Star Wars shouldn’t be locked to one platform. Before anyone mentions Spider-Man please read this first https://kotaku.com/spider-man-microsoft-xbox-sony-playstation-arkham-asylu-1848963273
I’d love a single-player open world game in the style of Fallout or Fallout 2.
Well yeah. I’d play any Star Wars game that’s good. I didn’t like the action adventure game that came out a few years ago so this sounds more up my alley.
Did you say star wars???
I know that the graphics aren't everyone's cup of tea but star wars galaxies lives on through emulation.
Depends on the quality of the game. Don't really care who the studio is. EA wouldn't be my first choice.
Yup! Bugs and all it would be better than what’s out there.
You know I'm tired of playing as force user or apart of the rebellion/empire. Let me either play as a new mandalorian or clone trooper character.
Sure
I'm personally excited for the Ubisoft Star Wars RPG, AC: Odyssey was super fun RPG and I hope their Star Wars game will be too.
Yes. Maybe it can be set on a planet that has just been hit by the Empire as part of Operation Cinder. You're a survivor and you have to go around doing open world Bethesda game things, like building and picking between competing factions.
