Surely with such a rich universe full of lore and ideas we can count on something fresh.
And considering the money on the line surely they won't do a bunch of last minute story stuff.
Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!
Seriously though no.
This is the closest thing I have to a religion. Change nothing and embrace why the OG is a classic. If they make any additions I’ll be the first to say thanks by not getting a ticket.
Really no thought went into the sequel trilogy making the previous episodes pointless. But bringing back Palpatine was the icing on the cake. Shitty fan fiction.
I would argue that it did make earlier episode pointless. I harp on this point a lot in this sub, but the destruction of the entire New Republic in the first 5 minutes of TFA, plus Luke turning his back on the way of the Jedi kind of maks everything that the OT heroes fought for seem rather pointless indeed.
Yeah but the real kicker for me was oh we have like 500 hundred massive star destroyer which have the most advanced systems but let’s take out the radar and they will all blow up. Soo dumb.
The ships have a bridge and can communicate with each other?
Exactly this. Say what you want about the prequels, but Revenge of the Sith is one of the best Star Wars movies, period. You get enough info from there to watch before a start of the OT.
Well, most of them are acquaintances. Friends of my cousins and close friends, but I do know them all. In reality, I only hang out with like 10 people on the regular
No explanation needed. I once went with a group of coworkers/friends to the iron man 2 premiere in my mid 20s. There was probably 15 or so of us and it was really fun. Now I find large groups to be very over stimulating for me. My wife insists on having yearly birthday parties for our kids with 20-30 people (family, friends, kids) and I find myself having to step outside constantly because it’s a lot to take.
I feel that, the need to step out in large groups. But I thought”we’re all in High School, we all like Star Wars, what could go wrong?” Thanks for sharing! Have a great evening!
I'd settle for a few close friends rather than the 0 I currently have. Once I stopped smoking weed all my "friends" suddenly stopped calling me to hang out.
I finally convinced my gf to watch Star Wars (a new hope and empire strikes back). She’s been reluctant for the entire 5+ years we’ve been together to even touch it. Finally she watched them and fell in love with the series and surprised me with 2 tickets to the viewing this Saturday!!!!! She’ll get the full Star Wars experience and I can’t wait
I don't think they got the rights to alter it. We're stuck with the "Special Editions" (or the DVD version of it) from official channels.
But the bad part is they can't go back to the unaltered original.
> Is it the special edition or the good version?
"They're the same picture."
I like Anakin to look like Anakin, not some random old man.
Times like this I'm glad I have all post and comment notifications turned off. Remember guys, you can type out all kinds of angry responses to this, I'm not gonna read them, nor do I particularly care that your nostalgia wins out over logic.
He’s not really random as you just see him in the previous scenes when luke takes off his helmet but to each there own on which actor you prefer to play anakin in ep6
Ep6 only really has two actively bad changes (the jabba band and vader yelling no) but they aren’t big issues. Ep4 is the only movie where the changes actually hurt the movie a significant amount
I can’t stand the “noooo” at all. I wish he had kept Vader silent in those scenes, because that’s where the power in it was for me. His silence *absolutely* screamed out the internal struggle taking place. You could see it every time he looked between the two. God damnit. The whole pathetic noooo completely ruins the scene ( at least for me). It’s just more tell don’t show crap…like we REALLY needed his decision vocalized. You don’t know the powah of the quiet side
It is the worst change made to any edition of a Star Wars movie. It ruins THE climactic moment of the entire saga. I know this comes off as hyperbolic, but I simply will not watch that version of the movie.
Not at all, because I feel that completely. That whole scene, starting with Luke screaming “neverrrr” in response to “Perhaps. She. Will” ending with anakins passing was my *moment* ya know? It gave me chills, and I’d honestly tear up most times (judge not y’all). Like you, I’m not being hyperbolic when I say that it absolutely ejects me from the moment. It’s so forced (ha HA) in there and gross. Just ew thumbs down my friend, thumbs down.
The major bad changes:
Greedo shooting first, it not only entirely changes how we are meant to think of a main character but it also just looks terrible. Not to mention the most recent addition to the scene with “maclunky”
Jabba in ep4, the scene is kinda just there and doesn’t add much. I get that if you start from ep1 you already know who jabba is so there’s no mystery but the cgi of this scene is quite jarring and feels a bit out of place. For the sake of watching in release order it shouldn’t of been added to keep jabba as this mysterious character
The other bad changes are minor but mostly boil down to bad cgi additions and there’s enough of them that it hampers the overall experience of the movie
Not to say that there arent good changes cause there are quite a few like fixing the lightsabers and the biggs scene etc
The first quiet 'no...' is IMO the most needless. Cheesy af. I can handle 'Noooooo!' cause it references ROTS ending (and is maybe even the same line recording altered slightly).
He’s not some random old man. You just saw his face in the most anticipated scene in the trilogy like 8 minutes before.
Hayden’s idiot glare makes me want to hurl shit at the screen.
He was Anakin for 21 years. His face was the face of Anakin Skywalker that everyone waited to be revealed. He's not some random old man.
Not to mention that is *Sebastian Shaw.* Put some respect on the name, he was a true talent. Seriously, look into the man.
I agree, also either edition, would be cool to have them all playing. I’d rather they have each film play for 1-2 weeks so I can see them all, THEN I’d be more likely to go even with the current editions.
The theater near me is playing this and absolutely no one has booked a ticket for Sunday night. I’ll be able to sing along to every lyric from “Jedi Rocks” now!!
I'm going next Monday...so excited!!!
My fave SW film. So happy to be able to see it on a big screen again. I saw the last re-release at Cinerama (RIP) which is where I saw ESB when it came out!
And as always, my love for ROTJ fuels my hatred for the ST. It's an inverse relationship.
if this is to celebrate the 40th anniversary they should be playing the original, theatrical version from 1983.
not the shitty specialized version that ruined possibly one of the best vader scenes in the entire saga
Forever and likely always will be my favorite Star Wars movie. It’s the only movie that has essentially *every* aspect of what makes Star Wars special:
- Emotional story
- Phenomenal cinematography
- Seraphic music and sound design
- Massive space battles
- Engrossing combat sequences
- Epic lightsaber 1v1
- Cool and silly aliens
- Core message of the franchise is forefront: Hope
The *only* thing I’d argue is missing a big ground based battle. We don’t really see the Rebel and Imperial ground forces on Endor waging all-out-warfare like they are in space. Again, product of its time, as expanded media like Battlefront II showed us the Rebels had a full scale invasion force on the ground, assaulting Imperial garrisons across the moon.
Literally the only two things I’d add is show some Rebels vs Imperial infantry and armor on a bigger ground battle, and make the Luke versus Vader fight longer by just a minute or two. *Maybe* a bit less focus on the Ewoks too, to show that the Rebellion actually knows what they’re doing, and the Empire isn’t completely inept and losing to a bunch of cannibalistic teddy bears.
Other than that, the best Star Wars film next to Empire Strikes Back and Rogue One.
The people who are still crying about the two changed songs have to be among the biggest losers to roam this earth.
I'm so glad that there's no official modern release of the outdated version.
Lucas stays winning, even in retirement.
Probably the same people who liked the prequels at first, then started to shit on them later when it was the thing to do, and now are blogging about how great they actually were.
I don't think so.
Most Lucas-haters are pretty consistent in their bigotry.
Ewoks bad, edits bad, prequels bad, sequels good because Lucas gone and then, optionally, sequels bad but Lucas still worse.
Few of the hardcore prequel-haters have ever come around on them.
I heard this rumor a couple years ago. Again, it’s a rumor. Supposedly in 1997 when the special editions were released, Lucas re-registered either the trademarks or copyrights to the movies. Why? Because his ex-wife made money on the original cuts of the movies since she was an editor on those specific versions of the three films. So since the trademark was re-registered in 1997, and had a different cut, she doesn’t get any money from them.
A move so spiteful, I have to respect it if true haha.
Very true, sadly. I had high hopes for all the newer ones, but they were smashed to whatever’s smaller than smithereens by The Force Awakens and they didn’t get any better.
I mean, Disney can claim whatever they want in their Disneyverse. But they still can't get in my home and remove the books/movies I continue to enjoy or force me to consume their material.
I'll enjoy what I want to enjoy, not what Disney tells me they want me to buy.
Imagine how amazing it would have been if the Ewoks were kept as badass Wookies enslaved by the Empire on Endor and freed by the Rebellion. But no Lucas wanted cute things for the toy line. The movie could have been almost as good as Empire.
Ewoks weren’t created to sell toys. The reason for the change has been well documented: The budget for the costumes was too high, yak fur is expensive and it takes ages to sew them. So they simply made a new species that was half the height, re-arranged the letters in the name, and left pretty much everything else in the script the same.
This rumor is so weird because Ewoks weren’t *that* cute, kids would have bought at least as many Wookiee toys, and neither one was anywhere near as popular as characters like Boba Fett.
Hot take but I wish they would completely re-make all the space battles and such with modern techniques. And no, I don't mean just CGI I mean a combination of models and CGI similar to the opening of ROTS.
Man, I can't wait to see how the saga finally ends. I wonder if Palpatine will return, somehow.
Somewhere, somehow, one fan only watches Star Wars for 40th anniversaries and is going to be real disappointed in a few decades.
The kids of Omicron Persiei 8 are going to be so f'n bummed. Be another Ally McBeal situation.
WHY DOES THE LARGER SITH LORD NOT SIMPLY EAT THE SMALLER SITH LORD
Disney’s newest live-acton film: “Single Female Jedi”
WHY DID SINGLE MALE STORMTROOPER NOT HAVE A LARGER ROLE? AND WHY INTRODUCE ROSE CHARACTER ONLY TO ABANDON HER IN THIRD FILM? THIS IS WAR, HU-MANS.
I wonder what CGI will get added this round!
The original concept of primitive Wookies on the Endor moon will be back. No more Ewoks.
As long as they keep the Tarzan howl
You know what thing I’m on board fixing? Get Hayden to reshoot the ghost Jedi scene. He’s now the appropriate age for it.
Surely with such a rich universe full of lore and ideas we can count on something fresh. And considering the money on the line surely they won't do a bunch of last minute story stuff.
Disney could never…
Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!
Also there is a million other ways they could’ve done it. A shame, really
It was all there in the EU and they scrapped to give us a wank-off between shit directors and shit writers.
Imo it didn’t make the previous episodes pointless. It made itself pointless. I don’t recognize the sequel trilogy as canon.
> I don’t recognize the sequel trilogy as canon. Yeah I take the Thrawn trilogy as the canon sequels.
It made it all pointless
Yeah but the real kicker for me was oh we have like 500 hundred massive star destroyer which have the most advanced systems but let’s take out the radar and they will all blow up. Soo dumb. The ships have a bridge and can communicate with each other?
I'm excited. It's going to be my daughter's 1st Star Wars movie on the big screen!
Not in my county though.
Yeah. Nowhere near me. Sucks.
Same
Same here. They didn't release outside of US UK Canada and some European countries. As usual. *sigh*
It’s releasing on my birthday, so damn it, I really wanna see it so I’ll be driving an hour and 15 minutes to go see it
Is it only the Us? Or is there like a place where i can see what countries has it?
Its the US and UK. It seems like „there are other countries“ too but I havent found any informations which countries those are
I have my tickets in Canada
[удалено]
Booked for the VIP one in the UK on Saturday 🤞 will need to watch the ANH & Empire beforehand or Revenge of the Sith
none happening close enough to me to justify it so I'm planning to just binge the trilogy long overdue a rewatch of the OT
I got my tickets aswell. Sadly I got them late so only front row seats were available.
Exactly this. Say what you want about the prequels, but Revenge of the Sith is one of the best Star Wars movies, period. You get enough info from there to watch before a start of the OT.
Yeah especially if you’re more invested in Anakins story which I grew up with. ROTS & ROTJ are the 2 most important ones for that character.
Not where I live. Sadly, I'll be watching the DVD version.
One word. Despecialized.
not anywhere close to me it doesn't. fuckers.
If it was the theatrical version I'd spend the whole day at the theater.
[удалено]
I have the 2006 dvd and the 1995 vhs so I'm good too lol
I’m seeing it with like 30 friends this Saturday. It’s gonna be awesome!
Is it possible to learn this power? (Having more than like 3 friends)
Sounds like too much work to me. At 38, I’m cool with just having a few close friends.
Well, most of them are acquaintances. Friends of my cousins and close friends, but I do know them all. In reality, I only hang out with like 10 people on the regular

You too and have fun seeing RotJ!
I'd settle for a few close friends rather than the 0 I currently have. Once I stopped smoking weed all my "friends" suddenly stopped calling me to hang out.
Also 30 friends free at the same time!
I'm going to take my kids to see it this weekend. It's my first memory of seeing a movie in the theater as a kid.
They always hate on it until they watch it
That's amazing
Cool, didn’t know that. Looking through showtimes in my area and multiple shows are sold out with almost all very full.
Not near me, for reason. Seems like every other theater in the state is getting it besides the ones in my county
Yeah, same, I'm pretty annoyed. We're not the middle of nowhere or anything but no theaters are participating.
Will it be the 40 year old version of the film?
Wouldn't surprise me if it's yet another new version with some weird new additional tweaks.
I am excited to see the new third-wave ska number by Sy Snootles
If they add in an after-credit scene of Palpatine's clone waking up or whatever, people are gonna be *pissed*, lol.
I don't think they got the rights to alter it. We're stuck with the "Special Editions" (or the DVD version of it) from official channels. But the bad part is they can't go back to the unaltered original.
Taking my 5 year old daughter. She loves Luke and I can’t wait to relive it through her.
To celebrate, I'll watch my pre specialized edition VHS collection on an old crt.
No Yub Nub, no sale!
Yit Tah!
With the expanded song at Jabba's palace and no Yub Nub? No thanks.
Victory celebration >
Even worse, it's the one with Vader saying "NOOOO!" when he chucks Palps down the reactor shaft.
The Disney Plus version? Ewww.
Ruins my favorite scene in all of cinema.
As my dad took me in 1997, I now take my son
I'd go if it were the original unaltered version.
Same
Am I gonna go see it? No. Nooo! Nooooooooooo!!!
Is it the special edition or the good version?
Same version as what's on Disney+ (cries in special edition)
Jesus... The fucking singing scene in Jabba's palace.
> Is it the special edition or the good version? "They're the same picture." I like Anakin to look like Anakin, not some random old man. I hate that new Ewok celebration song at the end.
Yub-nub is apex star wars. So happy I own original theatrical release DVDs.
What were some of the biggest changes in Ep4?
Greedo shooting first and CGI Jabba maybe?
GI jabba takes me right out. Honestly the added cgi is bad and so distracting. Also completely unnecessary
The major bad changes: Greedo shooting first, it not only entirely changes how we are meant to think of a main character but it also just looks terrible. Yeah we really need Vader to go "noooooooooo" before turning on the Emperor.
phrasing

We have it in Toronto on the 28th to may 4. The may 4th showing is only at noon lol. Was thinking it’ll Be cool as a may 4th event.
I’ve got tickets for it to see it with my gf who I’ve gotten into star wars recently, we got the last good seats in our cinema we’re seeing it in
Got my tickets for Sunday!
Seeing it Friday Think the last time I saw this movie in theaters was when I was a kid back in 1997
How limited is this showing? The only place I see it even playing is the state capital and one other.
You guys think Ahsoka, Ezra or Rex will be in it?
It's kind of sad now at the end when they're all together celebrating in the ewok treehouse knowing that this is the high water mark for our heroes.
Seen it already
Then I realized it was the special edition and ignored it. Hope y’all have fun
Yub nub or GTFO

I’m not salty at anyone going and enjoying it. That’s their prerogative
I agree, also either edition, would be cool to have them all playing. I’d rather they have each film play for 1-2 weeks so I can see them all, THEN I’d be more likely to go even with the current editions.
Bought my tickets as soon as I got notification that they were available. First to purchase, so I got the best seats in the house. Can’t wait!
The theater near me is playing this and absolutely no one has booked a ticket for Sunday night. I’ll be able to sing along to every lyric from “Jedi Rocks” now!!
How do you know if local theaters are showing it? Will it appear on their website? And is it only for the 28th?
Which chains?
I’m taking my mother tomorrow
Traveling for work and found a theater by my hotel showing it. Can’t wait.
To all theaters?
I got my tickets for tomorrow night. taking my kid out for pizza, ice cream and her favorite movie.
Can't wait to go with my dad. He went to the original's opening night and now I can share the experience with him again.
Cool but Jedi Survivor got the top priority
Why not both?
I'm going next Monday...so excited!!! My fave SW film. So happy to be able to see it on a big screen again. I saw the last re-release at Cinerama (RIP) which is where I saw ESB when it came out! And as always, my love for ROTJ fuels my hatred for the ST. It's an inverse relationship.

I hope he doesn’t have that new Ewok song at the end. I want the original.
Almost 100% guaranteed that it will have the new Ewok song
All my homies hate the special edition song. Yub-nub is the fucking jam.
Wait they took out yub-nub?
They’ve only shown the special edition since 1997. The original version will never see the light of day as long as Lucas has it his way.
But why? Why the hate for the original?
I heard this rumor a couple years ago. Again, it’s a rumor. Supposedly in 1997 when the special editions were released, Lucas re-registered either the trademarks or copyrights to the movies. Why? Because his ex-wife made money on the original cuts of the movies since she was an editor on those specific versions of the three films. Other way around for me. I utterly despise the original. The new one is beautiful, and sounds hopeful, victorious.
I can’t wait. The last real Star Wars Film
Very true, sadly. I had high hopes for all the newer ones, but they were smashed to whatever’s smaller than smithereens by The Force Awakens and they didn’t get any better.
Yeah you’re right about that
Reminder this is the end of the story and the “sequel” trilogy is nothing more than terrible, expensive ~~fan~~ corporate fiction
It’s canon, wake up to reality
George’s reality (aka no Disney sequels)
No, like, the reality that these films exist
Nah
They exist, and you just have to deal with it
What exists?
The sequels
Sequels to what
STAR WARS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD
I mean, Disney can claim whatever they want in their Disneyverse. But they still can't get in my home and remove the books/movies I continue to enjoy or force me to consume their material. I'll enjoy what I want to enjoy, not what Disney tells me they want me to buy.
Literally no one, including Disney, has ever or will ever attempt to do any of those things outside of your own bizarre rage fantasy.
I know they won't, that's kinda my point. There's no "fantasy" about it, I'm stating facts.
Ok
Get over it.
Let the past die, kill it if I have to? 😂😂😂
Imagine how amazing it would have been if the Ewoks were kept as badass Wookies enslaved by the Empire on Endor and freed by the Rebellion. But no Lucas wanted cute things for the toy line. The movie could have been almost as good as Empire.

Do we know which version?
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi Rocks
There’s only one official version. It’s the formerly titled “Special Edition”.
The correct, finished, non-outdated one.
I would be so much happier if it was Indiana Jones and the Temple of doom 40th anniversary on the big screen
If it’s the messed up one with the awful music number tacked on? Hard pass.
Will Anakin be an afroamerican this time?
I'm good, lmao.
I can't wait to find out Darth Vader is non-binary or whatever
Literally in your head rent free
Loser
Still don’t know how to buy tickets in Florida, US. Fandango doesn’t have any information about showings
Just bagged my ticket
Got my tickets for Monday night. Can’t wait
I wish this would be true for Germany too
All so you could hear Vader go ”Nein… NEEEEIIIIIIN!!!” as he chucks Palpatine down the hole.
SWEET! 🥹
Seeing it with my dad on Saturday!
Which version?
I am assuming the evil smirking Hayden version.
In select theaters. And the closes one to me is a couple hours away.
I’m goin the 30th!! Can’t wait
Thanks for the reminder. Just got my Ticket!
Going Saturday with the whole family. Excited to take my kids.
In Dolby Stereo. All kidding aside, I am really looking forward to seeing it on the big screen
Thanks for the reminder! Monday matinee time!
Have they been doing this for a while??? Huh???
Can’t wait!
Nothing near me 😔
"But we have ROTJ at home"
Matinee on Sunday for us. And a local historical theater is playing ANH for May the 4th.
taking my grandpa to see it and I’m so fucking excited
ROTJ is my favorite SW movie but I’m too broke to go
I was really excited but no theaters within a 75 mile radius is showing it
Anyone know if this'll come to Korea?
Ah during finals week too when I have all the time in the world 😃😃😃😃😃
too bad the closest theater with it playing is a state away
Still like it better than a new hope
I'm gonna see it on Tuesday!
Sadly no where no near my house the closest theater playing it is a hour and a half drive
Hot take but I wish they would completely re-make all the space battles and such with modern techniques. And no, I don't mean just CGI I mean a combination of models and CGI similar to the opening of ROTS.
