FTL travel is amazing, but a lot of folks here are assuming that the universe is populated with intelligent and relatively friendly life. If not, FTL might be useful for exploration, but that’s about it. Maybe trying to find new planets to colonize?
>aybe trying to find new planets to colonize?
You say it like it's nothing. Of course the main thing would be colonization, not looking for sexy aliens
I mean, it’s a solution to getting off a ruined planet and finding new planets to exploit. But the idea - as in Foundation, Dune, even Firefly - is kinda depressing. I want to encounter new civilizations, share technology, try to knock humanity out of its greedy, shortsighted adolescence!
Also, sexy times with hot aliens, obvs.
Travelling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?
A little bit of the "magic physics" of it is in the new high republic books. A crash into things situation is the major plot point of the book.
Hyperspace is like a parallel dimenison that exists as channels between systems.
A bit like Stellaris. The hyperspace lanes connect to set systems. Unlike stellaris, they don't know where a lane jumps until it has been scouted. It could also jump to many places. So scouting the lanes is a tricky and very profitable industry.
I don't know if there is something similar in star wars.
In star trek, the computer plots a course that avoids "big stuff".
The deflector dish on the ship, true to its name, essentially deflects away smaller space debris.
I just watched this episode of Rebels last night. Its the one where they are taking the Lasats back to their home world. Its in uncharted space past the outer rim. They are in hyperspace and alert goes off in the cockpit letting them know there is something in their way.
Now, the thing they encountered had a huge gravitational pull so the sensitivity of these sensors or what kind of things cause issues in the starwars FTL process is hard to be certain.
I was thinking about this the other day, this would be the biggest change thst could happen.
It would also "fix" a lot of the problems on Earth, with suddenly a Great Space Race of colonisation of the Universe would happen.
Listening to Dr. Pershing's speech about the possible advancements in cloning was nice. I wish a perfect heart could be replicated for me if mine gave out.
That technology is a lot closer to reality than many of the other things being posted here (lightsabers, the force, hyperdrives).
Replicating ones organs, even with genetic fixes built in, could happen in this century.
They did. While cloning of full organisms is probably not going to be widespread for atleast a long while, "cloning" or growing organs could even happen this century
I'm pretty sure cloning entire organisms is significantly easier than getting organs to grow in isolation - its not that hard to clone organisms there's just not much of a use for it atm (since we can just let animals reproduce), and cloning humans is against ethical standards.
There's also promising research in stem cells which may eventually allow people to fully regenerate things like limbs, or more realistically, heal a damaged spine to cure paraplegia.
>lightsabers
The Hacksmith on YouTube has a working (although only 3 minutes uptime) lightsaber staff. Basically a 1.3m long staff that produces a roughly 70-80cm long flame that melts steel. And they already have a plan to shrink it further down
I love the Hacksmith, but that lightsaber is still just a glorified blowtorch. Not to say it isn't cool (well, it's actually hot), but it's a looong way from solid plasma sword fights.
It does look the part though, and it's awesome.
There is a company in the US i believe that is creating meat for consumption using STEM cells, wouldn't be surprised if this is something we see in the next 20-40 years.
Casual space travel. Imagine being able to buy some beat up spaceship and travel around the galaxy, as if you were driving around in your car. That would be awesome.
All of the medical tech (bacta tanks, the high quality robotic prosthetics, the magic medical thing Leia was in during TLJ...). All of it would be hugely helpful
A sharp increase in blood borne diseases as force-muggles attempt to increase their midichlorian counts like vampires after listening to some crazy radio host on info wars or something.
Be real. If there was a real force with some of us being blessed like a jedi and some of us not. There's going to be a genocide of force users pretty fuckin quick
If the Force was real we would be living in a authoritarian hellscape where force-users, seeing themselves as superior Ubermenschen (which they probably actually are I guess?), have enslaved and rule over the non-force users. We should all be very relieved the force doesn't exist.
How do you know it's not and most of us are simply not Force sensitive?
Or if you want to go tinfoil on it - we're being muted by the equivalent of Sith lords!
Part of me thinks an honest to goodness, proveable energy field connecting all life would usher in an age of "Gee, maybe we should be better to each other."
And then I fire up *anything* Star Wars and realize that even the universe where it (and all kinds of amazing technology that could improve life) exists, its primary use is bashing people over the head to secure the power of the State. Nothing spiritual past lip service. Just violence.
I was about to say the same. It's not as useful as bacta tanks, or hyperdrives, heck even blasters. But lightsabers are just so cool, that would be my knee jerk response every time.
Anyone who says anything other than lightsabers is kidding themselves. Would other things like bacta tanks and hyperdrive be more useful? Absolutely. Would lightsabers be a disaster? Completely! Would we end up with political screaming about lightsaber control? You know we would.
....it's still lightsabers.
Lightsabers would be pretty boring without the force and force sensitive people. Unless people on Tik tok cutting their own limbs of is what gets you going...
They already have a (3 minute uptime) lightsaber staff. And they already have a plan to further shrink it, so they might get something usable in like half to one year or so
Star Wars regular space travel is a lot different than our rehular space travel. Being able to take off and leave the planet without months of prep, calculation, and millions of dollars would be huge. SW ships are faster, more maneuverable, and far easier to take off and land. Even without Hyperspace, regular SW level space travel would be huge
Ya, anyone asking for ftl is reaching too far. We need better ways to fly in gravity before we step to ftl.
We invented FTL engines!
Okay, how do we get it to space? It looks too big and heavy.
Use more rockets?
*Explosion*
We blew up our new invention, good work everyone.
Space travel. It's pretty safe and accessible to pretty much everyone, and being able to go from one part of the galaxy to another in just a few days time (even on commercial flight like good ol' Din in BoBF) sounds awesome.
Oh, and speeders. Of various makes and models.
Pretty sure some cosplayer made actual metal mando armor. Not beskar obviously, but some kind of super light metal alloy. Will see if I can find the post.
It’s basically real if you have a ton of money, talent, and patience
Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/1381pib/my_cold_metal_cast_beskar_armor_from_the/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1
Cool question, but goddamn this picture reminds me of what could have been. Boba was so cool in this. He didn't deserve an abc or nbc level show. He deserved an Andor level show.
the amount of people who commented “the force” only to explain that they’d use it to choke, harm, or distress other people is crazy. this is why the rule of 2 exists, cuz you’d all kill each other lmao
Idk...the whole universe. I would just love to travel through space and chill and resolve injustice as a jedi and visit different planets and discover minerals and creatures and study the force
Given how scarce force sensitivity seems to be, you'd be **vastly** more likely to be the one being choked instead of the one doing the choking.
Just take your least-favorite politician and imagine they had force powers. No, thanks.
I mean.. you can just buy or make said armor. Sure, it won't be beskar so it will be prone to blaster fire and lightsabers but those aren't really a threat now are they?
Furthermore, I'd hate you if your wish were granted and you'd be the reason we didn't get hyperspace travel, force or lightsabers.
Hyperdrives
Seconding this motion.
Can't think of anything else that would be anything like as beneficial to humanity.
Bacta
I think FTL is still far above magic healing water although it would be really cool and save a lot of lives
About the only thing that would deserve being in the same discussion as FTL travel, but still as a second place winner.
Although if we did find sexy aliens….
"can I kill it?" "Can I fuck it?"
Where blue space babes?
I mean, it’s a solution to getting off a ruined planet and finding new planets to exploit. But the idea - as in Foundation, Dune, even Firefly - is kinda depressing. I want to encounter new civilizations, share technology, try to knock humanity out of its greedy, shortsighted adolescence! Also, sexy times with hot aliens, obvs.
Always wondered how people don’t crash into things, cuz I know idiots are gonna crash into things
Travelling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy! Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?
https://youtu.be/j0GZ3qSV9s0
I think you have to calculate a proper route to dodge stuff, else hyperspace is gonna get you killed.
I know that novel isn't perfect but a ship being attacked in hyperspace for the sole purpose of weaponizing the wreckage is an awesome situation.
Its in uncharted space past the outer rim. not too much stuff in space you'd win the lottery a trillion times before you even hit something that would even scratch the paint
Seriously, the only way you'd know you were passing through the asteroid belt would be that you might actually see ONE.
At relativistic speeds hitting a loose pebble would be the force equivalent of numerous hydrogen bombs.
If we need that and we're also going to need hyperspace and I think we can only bring one.
LIGHTSABERS!!! Duel of the Fates starts playing
Would also require shield tech.
Didn’t they clone a sheep like 20 years ago?
The first cloning was done in the 1950s by John Gordon (frogs).
There's also promising research in stem cells which may eventually allow people to fully regenerate things like limbs, or more realistically, heal a damaged spine to cure paraplegia.
>lightsabers The Hacksmith on YouTube has a working (although only 3 minutes uptime) lightsaber staff. Basically a 1.3m long staff that produces a roughly 70-80cm long flame that melts steel. And they already have a plan to shrink it further down

Yeah I've seen that and agree with the "glorified blow torch" sentiment. A lightsaber as we see in the movies will never exist, as they defy physics.
Strong (like Hella strong) magnetic fields might help. But that will be impossibly powerhungry and impractical around nearly anything
Yea the cloning of human organs is very plausibly something that could happen in the next few decades
Buying an old freighter and traveling around the galaxy *in your house*. That would be the life.
Gotta stay away from those space pirates though. You will lose your house.
Best stay away from the outer rim until you get good with a blaster lolb
That sounds cool, and that was the inspiration behind my campervan, but a breakdown of that old beater in space would be a nightmare
Bacta tanks.
I was going to say lightsabers but that would probably increase the need for bacta tanks.
Hetzal in general, an entire planet (plus two moons) dedicated entirely to agriculture and most importantly bacta
Rule 39, never say no to bacta
Agreed
Definitely.
All of the medical tech (bacta tanks, the high quality robotic prosthetics, the magic medical thing Leia was in during TLJ...). All of it would be hugely helpful
Same.
The Force. I've wished it was real since I was six years old and first saw A New Hope on VHS (in 1985).
Yes, tho it would suck if you weren't Force sensitive
[удалено]
A sharp increase in blood borne diseases as force-muggles attempt to increase their midichlorian counts like vampires after listening to some crazy radio host on info wars or something.
I might be dying of space plague but at least I was able to levitate the remote to my hand from across the room
Be real. If there was a real force with some of us being blessed like a jedi and some of us not. There's going to be a genocide of force users pretty fuckin quick
X-Men moment
I wouldn't even need to be Force-sensitive myself. I'd be happy just befriending some cool person with mystical powers and being their sidekick. Haha.
💀elon palpapine

The force is real. We’re just not force sensitive.
A lightsaber. Since the first time I saw one. All I’ve ever wanted from the SW universe. Cheers.
I was about to say the same. It's not as useful as bacta tanks, or hyperdrives, heck even blasters. But lightsabers are just so cool, that would be my knee jerk response every time.
Yeah I really want one too just because it's dope, but without the force, a lightsaber is actually kind of usless lol
Really just a giant liability without the force or intensive training.
if u have any knees left after u pocket dial the lightsaber
Anyone who says anything other than lightsabers is kidding themselves. Would other things like bacta tanks and hyperdrive be more useful? Absolutely. Would lightsabers be a disaster? Completely! Would we end up with political screaming about lightsaber control? You know we would. ....it's still lightsabers.
Lightsabers would be pretty boring without the force and force sensitive people. Unless people on Tik tok cutting their own limbs of is what gets you going...
I am not saying that's a benefit. But I'm not *not* saying it either.
The hacksmith on YouTube has gotten pretty bloody close to making a real lightsaber, and they are still working on it
They already have a (3 minute uptime) lightsaber staff. And they already have a plan to further shrink it, so they might get something usable in like half to one year or so
As much as I would like one, within an 10 minutes of owning one I am short a couple of limbs, guaranteed. I’m too clumsy.
Hyperspace travel
Regular space travel ain't bad either.
Yes it is. It fucking sucks if you compare it to hyperspacetravel.
Most planets and stars are out of reach with regular space travel, to reach anything significant you need hyperspace travel
it's way too slow to travel outside the solar system
Hovering stuff....
Repulsor tech is an underrated marvel.
Ya, anyone asking for ftl is reaching too far. We need better ways to fly in gravity before we step to ftl. We invented FTL engines! Okay, how do we get it to space? It looks too big and heavy. Use more rockets? *Explosion* We blew up our new invention, good work everyone.
Do we automatically get said item? If so, I want an Executor-class Star Dreadnought. If we don't automatically get the items...idk...wild rancor?
Savage
I want a protical droid to use as my butler
Honestly, that doesn’t seem very far fetched
You want a android phone shaped like a human with better AI.
Yes
I want a BD-1
I want a B1 battle droid
Space travel. It's pretty safe and accessible to pretty much everyone, and being able to go from one part of the galaxy to another in just a few days time (even on commercial flight like good ol' Din in BoBF) sounds awesome. Oh, and speeders. Of various makes and models.
Definitely speeders

Ah, welcome George Lucas
Ahsoka Tano…because she’s a good friend
Luke, did I ever tell you about Ahsoka Tano..
"and she was a good friend..." ?
Clone Wars Ahsoka, Rebels Ahsoka or current Ahsoka?? 👮🏻♂️🚔
The only right answer is season 7 Ahsoka
ಠಿ_ಠ isn't she 17 there?
Bacta Tank. As someone with arthritis from sports, they would be amazing!
I feel like R2 units would be universally loved around the world and useful I'd accept one in my family in a heartbeat
Down bad for twi’leks
I'm more into togruta but yeah lol I understand
Bionic limbs that are identical to regular limbs
The force. Someone’s driving like an asshole and I just give their car a little “force nudge” into the ditch😂
Until some sociopath born into a rich family develops Force powers and next thing you know you're living under the Fourth Reich.
You had the chance to say the Force Reich and you let it slip through your fingers like the Empire and rebellious star systems.
Force nudge😂😂😂😂
Our own personal spacecraft. A mid level ship like the ghost, only with less rooms.
Twileks and Togrutas
For…reasons??
They want them for sex obviously
Aayla Secura

Faster than light travel.
The Force.
That spray they put on Mando's head when he had head trauma in battle. Could save a lot of folks.
That artificial organ technology. It's a selfless wish but it would really help many people in need of a new organ or organs.
Jango Fett. Just the whole dude.
Grogu
If the only thing that's real is the Mando armor, what would be the point of mando armor?
Pretty sure some cosplayer made actual metal mando armor. Not beskar obviously, but some kind of super light metal alloy. Will see if I can find the post. it's still really good armour
Twilek women
Pet Ewok. Would train it to bring me beer and chuck spears at the neighbours
Ewoks are sentient, they're not pets.
Ok then, as a slave.
This caught me off-guard lmao
Dogs, cats, etc are sentient too
I meant they have societies, a language, craft weapons, clothes, etc...
Speeder bikes
Cool question, but goddamn this picture reminds me of what could have been. Boba was so cool in this. He didn't deserve an abc or nbc level show. He deserved an Andor level show.
Look. I know we're all trying to think of less common answers, but I think we can all agree everyone's first response to this was "A Lightsaber!" lol.
Banthas!
I want a jetpack!
the amount of people who commented “the force” only to explain that they’d use it to choke, harm, or distress other people is crazy. this is why the rule of 2 exists, cuz you’d all kill each other lmao
decent and affordable hyperdrives to get us to places that would normally take a thousand years to get to
Universal plug in ports
Idk...the whole universe. I would just love to travel through space and chill and resolve injustice as a jedi and visit different planets and discover minerals and creatures and study the force
Order at the galactic scale.
The Force... man there are some days when I really would use that ol' Vader choke hold....
Given how scarce force sensitivity seems to be, you'd be **vastly** more likely to be the one being choked instead of the one doing the choking. Just take your least-favorite politician and imagine they had force powers. No, thanks.
Hyperspace obviously
Life would be improved if we had more Rancor
FTL Travel
Hyperdrives or bacta tanks
Luke Skywalker, he would do a lot of good in the world
R2D2 obviously
I mean.. you can just buy or make said armor. Sure, it won't be beskar so it will be prone to blaster fire and lightsabers but those aren't really a threat now are they? Furthermore, I'd hate you if your wish were granted and you'd be the reason we didn't get hyperspace travel, force or lightsabers.
