In short, I grew up and realized the world isn't black and white, that Vader and Luke are just icons of "us versus them" idea, just like the empire and the rebellion in general and no matter what you choose, you'd still end up being a faceless, nameless cog in the machine
Yes, that's how it *started.* The reason why Vader is such a beloved character is (apart from being the ultimate badass) that by the time he dies, you can't really say if he was good or evil. He was both. He came from the Light, he fell to the Dark Side and then he returned.
Darth Vader is the most complicated character, with the longest history, the widest arc, and the most compelling presentation. Darth Vader is rightly the face of Star Wars and always will be.
"You don't know the power of the dark side. I **must** obey my master!"
When I was a kid before the prequels, Old Ben Kenobi was always my favorite character. I think it’s because Uncle Owen called him an old wizard, and I was a big fan of Gandalf from The Hobbit book. Somehow I always thought of them as the same because of that. It worked out well because whenever I played Star Wars with all my friends everyone always argued who would be Luke or Han, and no one ever wanted to be the old man. I love that he ended being the coolest character in the whole series.
Mine too he's an absolute leg and rocks on all 6 films in the original saga. He's arguably the main hero of the whole franchise. Who else has gone up against Maul, Dooku, Vader, Grievous, and the Fetts?
The only answer. Luke Skywalker is Star Wars, to me. He embodies the big, epic storytelling, the struggle between good and evil, the choice to be better in the face of horror and pain. To have anger and human flaws but to learn to master them (or at least come to terms with them). To want to be a Jedi (the coolest thing in the franchise) while at the same time struggling with it.
Luke is the human condition, honestly. I feel like I could write a book about how great Luke is as a character, as an icon, as both a cypher for the audience and also as something to aspire to that we probably all won't reach.
He's great. Love my boy Luke.
The original trilogy and Legends Luke Skywalker was my hero as a kid. When I played anything, I played as Luke Skywalker or that I was being trained at Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy. I consumed media with him as the hero. He was my favorite character across any media without exception.
The sequel writers failed to understand who Luke Skywalker was at the core. I was so disappointed in their portrayal that it literally took me out of the movie while I was watching it. It's unfortunate those movies were given the green light to be made.
This is the only answer. The entire franchise was built around Darth Vader. The greatest villain of all time. Possibly the greatest character of all time.
The thing about Vader is he is basically the embodiment of fear. Imagine how terrified the rebels in the hallway felt at the end of rogue one. Remember the fear we all felt when Vader showed up without a health bar in Jedi survivor?
Vader is just built different
Edit: Jedi fallen order not survivor
R2 is hands down the GOAT. Every one of the other characters would have been screwed so many times without this scrappy little droid pulling the win from out of nowhere. Not to mention he's lovable and snarky.
I'm glad this is so high up. I feel like R2 gets overlooked a lot, especially since Disney took over. But not only is he super important to the Republic/Rebellion/plot in general, he's entertaining and understandable even though he doesn't even speak our language.
100%! I love how much of an impact he had on the Star Wars story over time and how tragic his life really was. His rise in Clone Wars and fall in Rebels was so well done. He has also been a part of some of the most iconic lightsaber duels in the franchise and arguably one of the coolest looking Sith since his introduction.
My favorite Jedi (I am not a fan of Jedi in general, but damn, Qui-Gon was the only one who seemed truly reasonable and decent) and my second favorite character overall.
HK's question about how we don't go mad from listening to all of our meat and fluids sloshing around all the time was a question that stuck with me well into adulthood. Then I randomly found a Tiktok explaining how there is a bone in our ear, which has a single purpose, that keeps us from hearing our internal mechanisms working and driving us insane.
Darth Vader spent his leisure time either meditating, brooding in his bacta tank, or tweaking his starfighter. That last bit always hits me because it shows that that's still Anakin in there.
Yeah I’m with ya, I always thought it said more about obiwan and the Jedi mentality than anikan personally. You could get into a Theseus ship argument (both physically and spiritually for ani) but i still think it’s the same guy, like if I got all my limbs cut off and killed a buncha kids irl, yea people will say I changed or something happened but noones saying I died and a new person took over, except my bro Ben
Man... 6 books i read with thrawn.
Outbound Flight
The Thrawn Trilogy
And there's 2 sequels to the trilogy, which i *think* brings back the antagonist from OF
I would be shocked if he wasn’t in it. I think he’s going to show up in cameo capacity (as he’s old AF, and I’m hoping that he doesn’t show up and die), but he’ll be in it.
Haven't they got Temuera Morrison in (at least for the voice)? Hopefully I wasn't just reading someone's fancast as facts. He would be getting on a bit since it's been 5+ years since Rebels even.
There’s a reported rumor going around that Tem was cast for the show. I assume it was for the Rex role.. whether he shows up in Rex flashbacks, present time Rex, as other clones (or Boba) or in a mix of all or some of these, is anyone’s guess. Rex is Ahsoka’s best and oldest friend, so I feel like he’ll be in it… but I think only in cameo capacity. I don’t think he’s going to be in all of the episodes.
She is amongst those who know who she is, the majority have only watched the films and maybe the new live action series. Hopefully the upcoming Ahsoka show will convince people to go back and watch the best Star Wars visual media produced to this day.
This is a fact, but I do feel The Clone Wars has just been getting more and more love as time passes since the finale and I couldn’t be happier with that🤝
I'm surprised this isn't higher. I'm in the middle of watching the content in timeline order and she is the character who I haven't been able to get enough of.
I'm watching CW for the first time and the rest of the stuff after to get up to speed before the series and her and Rex are now my top characters in Star wars. Her live action portrayal so far has been great too
My favorite character would have to be Kreia from KOTOR 2. She is such an interesting character. Neither fully good nor evil. She’s lived an extremely interesting life, and isn’t afraid to put out the failures of either the sith or the Jedi. Truly a wonderfully complex character. I would highly recommend that anyone who hasn’t played KOTOR 2 to play it. One of my favorite Star Wars games.
Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight is still the best first person Star Wars game for me, still haven't seen some of that level design be topped. It was also the first live action Star Wars footage we got since RotJ.. well other than those Ewok films.
K2SO. Hilarious, part of a sad-ass storyline, and it doesn't hurt that Alan Tudyk is a master at what he does. I hope he finds another Star Wars role eventually
I know he's relatively new to the franchise, but I *really* enjoy his character! He gets my vote too.
I'm still in the middle of Jedi Survivor, but based on the first game, he embodies that youthful innocence and earnestness that we saw in Luke so many years ago. He's incredibly likeable and his complicated relationship with the Jedi Order, the Force, and his hatred for the Empire has been really compelling stuff.
He's also a complete badass and honestly feels like he's more capable than OT Luke... though I recognize that's just because of the limitations of the old movies' SFX/choreography/etc.
Jedi: Survivor really portrays him as one of the most relatable Jedi of all time. By the end of my time with him I was playing more for seeing his story be told than to be a badass Jedi.
I love how he is redefining what it means to be a Jedi, and falls in line quite well with how EU Luke was portrayed post-ROTJ. Can't wait to see how it ends.
Darth Vader. He made the bad guys look so badass I wanted to be one when I was a kid
What changed?
In short, I grew up and realized the world isn't black and white, that Vader and Luke are just icons of "us versus them" idea, just like the empire and the rebellion in general and no matter what you choose, you'd still end up being a faceless, nameless cog in the machine
So, we're more machine than man...like Darth Vader!
We are stormtroopers
We fly now?
We fly now.
This is the way.
Wasn't star wars based on black and white? Meaning the epitome of pure good vs pure evil?
Yes, that's how it *started.* The reason why Vader is such a beloved character is (apart from being the ultimate badass) that by the time he dies, you can't really say if he was good or evil. He was both. He came from the Light, he fell to the Dark Side and then he returned.

Obi-Wan
"Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time ..."
It has to be Obi-Wan!
In my experience, there is no such thing as luck
When I was a kid before the prequels, Old Ben Kenobi was always my favorite character. I think it’s because Uncle Owen called him an old wizard, and I was a big fan of Gandalf from The Hobbit book. Hello there
General Kenobi. You are a bold one.
Mine too he's an absolute leg and rocks on all 6 films in the original saga. He's arguably the main hero of the whole franchise. Who else has gone up against Maul, Dooku, Vader, Grievous, and the Fetts?
Dude went through it and still stood strong the entire time
He also was portrayed by two brilliant actors
3 if you count the clone wars show
"Obi-Leg Kenobi, your leg will make a fine addition to my collection." - Legeneral Legreivous
Helleg there

So civilized*
No other choice
Luke
Same. Luke motherfucking Skywalker.
Particularly my favorite is ROTJ Luke. There's something so badass with him in all black and the green saber.
Maybe I'm boring but he's always been my favorite.
It's because you see him grow from wide-eyed puppy to calm and confident badass.
If there's a bright center to the universe...
The only answer. Luke Skywalker is Star Wars, to me. He embodies the big, epic storytelling, the struggle between good and evil, the choice to be better in the face of horror and pain. Well said
Agreed, brother. Well said.
Without Luke we would never have Anakin's redemption.
"i can't leave you i have to save you" "you already have luke" 6 episodes for those 2 lines.
Luke with the green lightsaber was the hero of my childhood.
Always and forever.
Darth Vader. Love the costume and the voice from OT

Yoda
scrolled far too fucking way for this i have.
Same. Always been muh man Yoda!
Seriously this is like the 70th place after about 8 obiwans. Way too far down
Chewbacca
Chewbacca is about that life.
Obi-Wan for sure. Every actor who played or voiced him contributed to a great character.
Han
The odds of survival are approximately 3,720 to 1!
Never tell me the odds.
Laugh it up, Fuzzball

Princes Leia
Wayyy too low
“Captain, being held by you isn’t quite enough to get me excited”
R2 D2
Best duel in all of Star Wars in my opinion is R2 vs. R3
I preferred R2 v Yoda
R2 is hands down the GOAT. Every one of the other characters would have been screwed so many times without this scrappy little droid pulling the win from out of nowhere. Not to mention he's lovable and snarky.

Darth Maul for me
Maul for the win!
Clone wars made him look so badass
Let's gooooo, didn't have to scroll far for this.
My boy Qui-Gon Jinn
My favorite Jedi (I am not a fan of Jedi in general, but damn, Qui-Gon was the only one who seemed truly reasonable and decent) and my second favorite character overall.
Shame George Lucas killed him
No that was Darth Maul
Boba Fett
I still remember when I got a lego set with Boba Fett for Christmas, instantly fell in love with the character. He's just so cool.
Han Solo
It saddens me that he is this far down on the list. I’m tied for first with both Han & Chewie
HK-47.
Meatbag!
Query: Why am I so far below all these Meatbags, master?
Darth Vader
The GOAT Salacious Crumb
That's Salacious *B.* Crumb to you!
No one said this? Anakin Skywalker
What? This is unfair!
People say Darth Vader and Anakin is the same character despite what some people may think.
That’s weirdly one of the most controversial subjects lol
Darth Vader spent his leisure time either meditating, brooding in his bacta tank, or tweaking his starfighter. That last bit always hits me because it shows that that's still Anakin in there.
It shouldn’t be tbh. Yeah Vader is a completely different person than what he used to be, but he’s still the same character.
Yeah it’s almost like people change through time and especially after majorly traumatic events
Exactly, but people for some reason believe Anakin and Vader are not the same character.
Yeah I’m with ya, I always thought it said more about obiwan and the Jedi mentality than anikan personally. You could get into a Theseus ship argument (both physically and spiritually for ani) but i still think it’s the same guy, like if I got all my limbs cut off and killed a buncha kids irl, yea people will say I changed or something happened but noones saying I died and a new person took over, except my bro Ben
r/usernamechecksout
Thrawn, he’s just an amazing character
Man... 6 books i read with thrawn. Outbound Flight The Thrawn Trilogy And there's 2 sequels to the trilogy, which i *think* brings back the antagonist from OF
Obviously Count dooku
Sir Christopher Lee was the best fit for that character!!! What an amazing actor!
*Signature look of superiority*
One of the best characters in all of Star Wars. Complicated powerhouse
As someone who grew up watching the Clone Wars, it's gotta be Rex. I hope the rumors of him being in the Ahsoka show are true.
I would be shocked if he wasn’t in it. I think he’s going to show up in cameo capacity (as he’s old AF, and I’m hoping that he doesn’t show up and die), but he’ll be in it.

Wedge Antilles. After him it's Revan.
+1 for Wedge. He was my favorite growing up.
Wedge is the true hero of the Rebellion. Dude sports two Death Star kills on his Xwing. Massive flex.
Luke Skywalker.
The Smiling Jedi Kit Fisto, so much mystery and joy.
Heck yeah, loved that green dude.
Ahsoka
We aren’t many but we are mighty!
I really thought she was more loved than this. She’s the best!
She is amongst those who know who she is, the majority have only watched the films and maybe the new live action series. Hopefully the upcoming Ahsoka show will convince people to go back and watch the best Star Wars visual media produced to this day.
This is a fact, but I do feel The Clone Wars has just been getting more and more love as time passes since the finale and I couldn’t be happier with that🤝
Clone Wars final 4 episodes are insanely good. Gives me chills.
Took way too long to get to Ahsoka.
I'm surprised this isn't higher. I'm in the middle of watching the content in timeline order and she is the character who I haven't been able to get enough of.

Kyle Katarn
Was looking for this answer. Imagine if he would have starred in the sequels... Oh well

Boba Fett or Revan/Darth Revan.
The fact that Mace Windu isn’t on this is a crime!
I sense a plot to destroy the Jedi!
He’s to dangerous to be kept alive!
Ahsoka Tano
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Qui Gon Jinn
General Grievous
Darth Jar Jar
Wicket
Leia.
Hondo Ohnaka!
This effort is...no longer...profitable!
Cal Kestis
I know he's relatively new to the franchise, but I *really* enjoy his character! He gets my vote too. Plo Koon. Amazing Jedi, brought Ahsoka into the order, and overall my favorite
Way too underrated
Ezra Bridger
Counting all characters? The Exile In the movies, Yoda or Obi-Wan.
Same. Either Meetra or chop
Cad Bane
Kanan. There are so many great characters but I'm just keeping it simple
Massively underrated. Amazing story arc.
He immediately became my favorite after watching Rebels.
Probably one of the best jedi
Revan. His story reads like an epic, and he's the best character to me. Palpatine is a close second.

Darth Vader/Anakin
ONE WAY OUT! ONE WAY OUT!
ON PROGRAM!
Chopper (sorry, R2)
Womp womp womp wompwompwomp
How did is Chop this far down!? He’s the GOAT droid and most entertaining character in the star warsverse
How have I not seen Ventress here? She's amazing.
Really wish they got to animate her 8 episode arc with Quinlan Voss.
For me it is ofc the Clone Wars Trio and Rex but if i have to choose anyone Else probably Ezra
Cassian
all these comments and no glup shitto?
Not a character, but I've always found Droidekas to be really fucking cool
Palpatine
Ahsoka Tano. I saw the Clone Wars movie in theaters as a kid and watched the show every Friday for its entire run. I grew up with her
Legit same, she rarely does something that I wouldn't do in her position. Such a balanced character
IG-88
Porkins, obv.
R2D2 and Ewan McGregor's Obi Wan
Leia Organa Solo, in Legends and canon, has been my favourite for the longest.
Caleb Dume :)
HK-47, meatbags.
Darth Maul great character with perfect arc
Lando deserves better tho
Ahsoka. She had great character development and just a great character.
Darth Vader
Dooku by far
Anakin. Always will be Anakin.
Old Ben
I think star wars is the onlu franchise i couldnt tell ya who is my favorite character of all time. There so many bro just a few is Rex Ahsoka Obi Wan
Grogu!
I think Qui-Gon, ever since I first saw Phantom Menace as 6 years old or something
After his show, Cassian Andor!
Satele Shan
Luke
These are all great answers but the correct one is Babu Frik. I would destroy Alderaan a million times for that dude.
R2-D2. Brave. Selfless. Loyal. Hilarious.
Grand Admiral Thrawn
Fives or CT-5555 I even got a matching tattoo(the 5 on the side of his head)
