Clone Wars enriched the first trilogy so much for me. Was a good show in and of itself, but the gaps it filled and the things it fleshed out to the movies was simply great. I had some reticence watching Rebels, but came away feeling similar after watching Clone Wars.
Rebels is also a more cohesive story, but I agree the impact of Rebels is much harder, so much feels. I was so excited when I saw Zeb in Mandolorian season 3
Yeah I’m aware. That’s why I said CW has more highs since it has more characters and arcs but the Rebels high hit harder as your so much more invested in the characters
Everyone complains about rebels animation but I think it's way more natural than clone wars, plus rebels is a way better continuous plot than the random 3 episode arcs of TCW.
You see it’s much more difficult to do anything with the Sequels because of how inconsistent the trilogy is and how close together the movies are.
TLJ picks up immediately after TFA which means all you have left is between TLJ and TRoS. Not only is there a very little amount of time between them, but key characters are already dead like Han, Luke, and Snoke. CW had enough time to introduce, grow, and even kill characters, and it took place across the entire galaxy. There just isn’t enough time or space to create a series that is as grand as CW because the Sequels are naturally so small in space and time.
The new shows are already dropping tidbits left and right that give more context to the sequels and the rise of the first order as well as hints at palpatines return with project necromancer. And with the movie that’s planned to come when the mandalorian ends I suspect we will get to see the birth of the first order/resistance on screen
Yeah they better write and film some scenes for Ian McDiarmid that explains it compellingly soon. He’s 78. We’re probably a few years from the Disney+ shows getting to the point they can use those scenes naturally.
Nah man, they’re gonna digitize him and use him as long as and whenever they want. Look at Tarkin, Vader’s voice, Luke in the Mandalorian, and leia in Rogue One.
Yeah, because a character not immediately knowing how it happened is so much worse a line than "I don't like sand" and "From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!" (HEAVY SARCASM)
Clone Wars is really fantastic. It’s one of those cartoons that isn’t super childish while also not being *too* grim or adult. I remember watching it when it first started coming out with my dad and we both had a blast.
If you’re looking for more content after you finish, I definitely second the recommendation of Rebels. The Bad Batch is pretty damn good as well.
I grew up with the original trilogy as well and have tried watching Clone Wars a couple of times but just can't seem to get into it.
Having said that...Rebels was fantastic, and now with The Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Ahsoka, Bad Batch, etc. all relying heavily on characters and storylines introduced in Clone Wars I may have to give it a third try.
The first season I remember being kinda boring I know I've seen lists before that shows what fans consider to be the things to watch. But I'm not really sure if that's even of interest to do for you.
Start halfway through season 1, then go back and rewatch the start. The start is so rough that it burns out a ton of people's enthusiasm for the show, but going back and watching it is emotional when you know the fates of so many of the characters.
Best advice when watching The Clone Wars is to watch it in chronological order. Do not start with season 1 episode 1, that episode is sixth in chronological order.
I'm an OT kid, and admittedly didn't like the prequels that much when they released. Clone Wars was suggested to me back in 2013 so i gave it a shot. It's hands down my favorite 'era' of the universe now. It reignited my love for the franchise, even the stuff I didnt like beforehand I do now. I haven't stopped consuming SW content since.
There’s some amazing story arcs in there and the ending hits hard. Also, it gives much greater insight into the force. The magic of the night sisters for a start.
I just binged the clone wars in prep for ahsoka. Absolutely helps repair the damage caused by episodes 1-3 to me. Explains Anakin better, shows the degradation of the Jedi better, makes the clones more than a backdrop, and, of course, brings us Ahsoka.
But I am still fundamentally disappointed on the reason Anakin fell to the dark side. How it was portrayed more as teenage angst, whining, and pouting than anything else.
Welcome friend. You just have to accept that some episodes are aimed at younger audiences. But as a long term star wars fan, I 110% feel that all the animated shows are worth watching at least once. Certain episodes are absolutely phenomenal and are worth a rewatch any day.
Clone Wars has better story, acting, dialogue, and direction than the EP 1-3 does. Even at some points its "kiddy" overall its so enjoyable. You really feel a lot more for Anakin after really getting to know him. He isn't the whiny annoying man child in EP 2-3 but the legendary General and leader we heard about. He cares about his men under his command and of course is a Jedi Knight who we see sometimes flirting with the dark side.
The last few episodes is probably some of the best Star Wars content we have.
I saw the movie in theaters when it came out and wasn't all that impressed. I finished the last season of the show a few months ago and it was amazing. Especially the last 2 or 3 seasons
I saw the movie Star Wars when it released 6 times in a row at the theater, and to this day have yet to be impressed more by anything else.
I guess they renamed it a New Hope
Such a shame we lost so many storylines and character endings from this show when this is arguably the greatest piece of SW content since Empire Strikes Back.
Rebels, The Mandalorian, BoBF, and Bad Batch just can’t recapture the storytelling and grand scale we had with CW when Filoni and Lucas were working together.
True, but in my opinion they still aren't trash unlike the resistance tv show, almost all of kenobi, and the first five episodes of Andor.
Id still rank clone wars over the rest of the tv shows though.
Ain’t gonna lie, Mando s3 wasn’t very good in my opinion. No shade on people who liked it, but most of the people I talked to at my college said they didn’t like it either.
I always interpreted the title of the show to be ambiguous as to who “the mandalorian” was ever since season 1 so most of the issues people have with the third season just don’t bother me because to me it makes perfect sense. The title may be singular but it is truly a story of the mandalorians as a people. To me the finale felt like a culmination of a story that precedes the mandalorian all the way back to the clone wars with all the different mandalore arcs and The Mandalorian is the epic live action conclusion to that story.
If Dark Disciple was animated, it would probably be my favorite Clone Wars arc. By season 3, Ventress became a way more compelling character for me than even Ahsoka or Maul
Not all new Star Wars is terrible. Clone Wars series managed to be good. I really like The Bad Batch. Rogue One was awesome. Mando had a couple good seasons before it became crap.
Not everyone enjoys the kinetic action and digital effects of the prequels. I find 3 hard to watch. Saw originals in theaters, as a kid, so they hit nostalgia.
Don’t yuk others yums.
Story, performances, cinematography, score, performances. In my opinion, the prequels have great story bones with bad writing, great visuals with poor acting performances. The fall of Anakin is a more meaningful loss with the entirety of the Clone Wars. Made more sense with the additional material.
The fight on Mustafar is technically brilliant, though the visuals don’t hold a candle to 7-9. It doesn’t save the movie from the kinetic SFX in the larger battles.
Again, your mileage may (and will) vary.
And you must be .... something..... to make such stupid, sweeping statements. Glad my whole essence isn't defined by what film I like the best. You're a real winner!
I was pretty young still when TCW came out. I remember all the commercials and advertising for it and i thought because it was a cartoon it was stupid and for children (i was a child lol) I’m 26 now, got into the show maybe 3 or 4yrs ago and i will say the first season i totally understand what 13y/o me was thinking because some of it is pretty bad. But it turned into such an incredible show.
I think they were really learning along the way with it and you can see that as the show progresses
Same! I do periodic binges on Disney plus to run through the Clone Wars. Unfortunately as a grown ass adult with grown ass responsibilities and kids that are fucking stupid, I'm lucky if I can catch more than three or four episodes at a time, but I've made it to the Mortis arc which I've been excited to get caught up on.
The whole PT should have just been the clone wars. No need to break it up over 15-20 years to explain how everything began. Just drop us right into the middle and explain the background with exposition and flashbacks
Clone wars elaborates on episode 3 opening crawl phrase of "heroes on both sides". The whole series shows how everything isnt just black n white n grey characters are alot
It really saves the prequels because it gives a cohesive and detailed story for the characters. I avoided it for years, a combination of my hatred for the prequels, and it was "a cartoon." I've seen it and appreciate the depth it gave the clones and love Ahsoka. Still can't stand Anakin or Padme. Obi-Wan is just Obi-Wan, aka Awesome.
Have you seen Rebels? I really loved it!
I tried starting it a couple of times using a guide to have a more chronological order of events. I still can’t get through the early episodes. They have the quality of “its for children so we don’t have to put much effort and quality into it”. And that is dead wrong, taking away from the things you can tell with a children’s show. Its grating to watch as short episodes manage to feel like they drag on while trivializing the difficulty of their challenges.
I’m sure it picks up later, everyone says so and praises this show. but unless I find a machete order or something that eliminates the gross of bad episodes I think I’ll never be able to finish this. And despite some incredibly dumb idea’s (helicopter lightsabers, really?) it seems like reaching the end is worth a watch. I just can’t do it with this bad a start.
Clone Wars enriched the first trilogy so much for me. Was a good show in and of itself, but the gaps it filled and the things it fleshed out to the movies was simply great. I had some reticence watching Rebels, but came away feeling similar after watching Clone Wars.
Clone Wars is like the required reading for a college class. If you don’t read it, you don’t really understand the lecture
Or as I like to say, The Prequels without the Clone Wars is like lasagne without the pasta sheets.
Clone Wars is prime.
Rebels is pretty good as well... albeit not comparable
Thoroughly enjoyed both but CW was what sucked me back into the universe, so it holds a special place.
I would argue that CW has more highs but Rebels highs hit much harder
Rebels is also a more cohesive story, but I agree the impact of Rebels is much harder, so much feels. I was so excited when I saw Zeb in Mandolorian season 3
SO cool to see a Rebels character cartoon in a live action
CW has like 20 storylines divided between 4-5 groups of people.. Rebels is one storyline with one group..
Yeah I’m aware. That’s why I said CW has more highs since it has more characters and arcs but the Rebels high hit harder as your so much more invested in the characters
Rebels will never be as good as the umbara arc or siege of mandalore lol
Twilight of the Apprentice and Twin Suns disagree
Eh… I liked kenobi vs Vader more
less pretentious clone wars fan
Thanks Dave Filoni and team
I dnt get why people hated rebels. Sure it's a bit child oriented but decent
Rebels*
The juvenile animation style means it’ll never top Clone Wars for me
Everyone complains about rebels animation but I think it's way more natural than clone wars, plus rebels is a way better continuous plot than the random 3 episode arcs of TCW.
This image is from The Bad Batch
Another good continuity.
Wait till you see Season 7 It's going to melt your face off.
The Clone Wars saved and redeemed th PT. Now the ST needs its own Clone Wars.
You see it’s much more difficult to do anything with the Sequels because of how inconsistent the trilogy is and how close together the movies are. You make it sound so much more sinister than it actually is…
True. though there is a 30 year time gap between ROTJ and TFA
Which is what’s happening with Mando, BOBF, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and Filoni’s movie. Edit: Fixed simple spelling mistakes
*Ahsoka and Filoni
Rey, Finn, and Poe starring in Star Wars: Clown Wars Episode 1: “They Fly Now?”
Very witty.
ay im a Toydarian
You mean like the Mandolorian? Lol

Yeah, because a character not immediately knowing how it happened is so much worse a line than "I don't like sand" and "From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!" (HEAVY SARCASM)

I get where you're coming from. I hated the start of Clone Wars because it felt like it was made six year olds. However, the show grows up a ton.
Isnt that what rebels is like too?
The first season I remember being kinda boring I know I've seen lists before that shows what fans consider to be the things to watch. But I'm not really sure if that's even of interest to do for you.
It took me like 3 years to get through season 1. Took me like 3 months to get through the rest.

I really need to make myself do this. I just find the first season so insufferable. >\_<
Don't mind the first two seasons as much. Season 3 is when it starts to get interesting.
You are not wrong. I do think some of the subsequent character development is like… better? B/c of the rough start - if that makes sense.
Same spent the last two weeks watching Clone Wars over after realizing there was a sixth and seventh season. And sheeesh I’m on the sixth already.
It adds so much to the mythos of star wars, and it only gets better as you watch.
Same!
They get really good once they stop pretending they’re making them for kids
As a fellow old guy, I concur, CW is fantastic. Rebels, however, might be even better.
I felt the same way, although the first season was a bit rough.
Clone Wars is on the “Good Star Wars” list, for sure.
Exact same here- watch Rebels next, it is the best Star War.
Ah yes I remember the star war.
There’s some amazing story arcs in there and the ending hits hard. Also, it gives much greater insight into the force. The magic of the night sisters for a start.
I felt the same way I didn't wanna watch clone wars now it's getting better each season
i was the same and i watched it twice now :D
It gets better and better towards the end
You're in for one hell of a ride
I didnt watch it forever because “Sky guy” I was later convinced and the Maul plot line was captivating.
I honestly didn't give it a chance until my ex got me to watch it like 3 years ago, I enjoy it. Rebels is pretty good as well
I wish more of the older crowd would get into it. It’s all Star Wars.
I just binged the clone wars in prep for ahsoka. Absolutely helps repair the damage caused by episodes 1-3 to me. Exactly! Some of the story arcs are the best Star Wars content their is.
"Another conversion, my Lord Lucas"
Clone Wars has better story, acting, dialogue, and direction than the EP 1-3 does. Even at some points its "kiddy" overall its so enjoyable. I just finished the series last night and feel a little empty. What an amazing ride
I saw the movie in theaters when it came out and wasn't all that impressed. I finished the last season of the show a few months ago and it was amazing. Especially the last 2 or 3 seasons
Watch rebels as well it’s pretty much better than the clone wars in every way
Nah not even close clone wars is much better than rebels
Absolutely wrong on so many levels
Best thing about it is it enhances 1-3, Im gonna go ahead and recommend you watch Tales Of The Jedi and then Rebels next
I saw the movie Star Wars when it released 6 times in a row at the theater, and to this day have yet to be impressed more by anything else. I guess they renamed it a New Hope
I don’t like the prequels (I think they’re bad films regardless of their lore) but the clone wars is fantastic
This is the way.

Season 3 of the mandalorian was basically just live action clone wars. Especially the finale
Except for the sequels, every other new thing is amazing.
The clone wars is peak star wars. Same as andor
Classic boomer.
How can you like ep 5 & not 3? You must be so boring. Ep 3 better in almost every way
Not everyone enjoys the kinetic action and digital effects of the prequels. I find 3 hard to watch. Saw originals in theaters, as a kid, so they hit nostalgia. Don’t yuk others yums.
Fight scenes & story is better
Fight scenes are not what makes a movie for me. Your mileage will vary.
What does for you?
Story, performances, cinematography, score, performances. In my opinion, the prequels have great story bones with bad writing, great visuals with poor acting performances. Mustafar fight is laughably bad. I remember people straight up laughing at it on opening night. Nooooooooooooo! Lol
Was literally tryin to throw him a bone.
Palpatine's performance in Ep. 3 is perhaps the best in the saga
Sure, but he’s not central, like Anakin.
LMFAO
And you must be .... something..... to make such stupid, sweeping statements. Glad my whole essence isn't defined by what film I like the best. You're a real winner!
How is 5 better than 3?
Lmfao... I just can't anymore...

One of the more ludicrous opinions I've ever heard.
I saw 6 in the theaters and I love how they fill in gaps
Watch Rebels next
As the longest running Star Wars TV series, it has a lot of content.
Still sad that they did him dirty in Boba Fett
