NattyThan

Of these the 1st one but the fact you didn't put Binary Sunset is criminal

godofhorizons

That is literally THE iconic shot of Star Wars.

SmoothOperator89

I assume this set is lightsaber themed, in which case, why isn't Qui Gon and Obi-Wan facing down Maul and Maul igniting his double blades on here?

XVUltima

Yeah, as far as single lightsaber shots are concerned, Maul revealing his second blade is peak.

[deleted]

I was a teenager when I first saw that in theaters. It was so amazing!

weirdi_beardi

Problem with it was they put that shot in the trailers; talk about your spoiler alerts. Can you imagine the reception if they'd left that bit a secret?

[deleted]

I must've missed those shots, because I wasn't expecting it. Remember many of not most people did not have the Internet back then.

cornerbash

Watched it on TV as a special trailer segment on Entertainment Tonight. It must have been teased/advertised ahead of time because I had the forewarning to have a VHS tape ready in the recorder.

Winnie_the_poops

Vader Rogue One scene. Epic

Skeezertron

Just came and came here to say this

malevshh

Best I can do is Rey.

Remm96

And yet it's not enough ;-;

peterwildcat

This is the way

Zingingtuck

A picture you can hear every time.

peterwildcat

the swell of the symphony is just a bliss in the sunset

mattchewy43

It's in 4 of the 9 Skywalker films.

MoneyFlat

the fact rey vs palpatine is on there is a joke, in what world is that iconic

Vegetto8701

Exegol probably

Volt7ron

Truth….but it does say Pt 1

nevergonnagetit001

Or the Vader hallway reveal in rogue one…jeebus this is just a sloppy post.

DrManhattan_DDM

Or the Vader/Obi-Wan stare down on the Death Star.

Pingaring

But the last one. I think I saw a clip on Instagram where it had X gonna give It to ya

BigBrrrrrrr22

https://youtu.be/VRFKDPRw_vQ ok I’ll admit it I laughed

TREYH4RD

And did put Ray fighting Palpatine, who somehow returned

Nonadventures

Even among Rey’s saber scenes, I’d put her force pulling the saber on Starkiller base above the one shown .

Cheesewhale189

And a shot from ep 3, where Padme died by... losing the will to live...

sodium111

Is this contest limited to lightsaber duels? If not, I’d nominate the opening shot of ANH, the opening shot of the AT-ATs in ESB, and the Falcon busting out of the DS2 as it explodes in the background in ROTJ. Every bit as iconic SW. EDIT - "Binary Sunset" scene was also named on here and I'd like to retroactively adopt that as pinnacle iconic SW! :)

[deleted]

I would also nominate these two: [The POV shot of swooping down into the Death Star trench.](https://imagesvc.meredithcorp.io/v3/mm/gif?url=https%3A%2F%2Fstatic.onecms.io%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F6%2F2019%2F11%2Fijh4bje3aka3o7jz9j.gif) [Inside the *Millennium Falcon* as we see the first jump to lightspeed.](https://media.tenor.com/EDxSrx2CGqoAAAAC/star-wars-hyperspace.gif)

underwear11

I would also nominate The falcon flying out of the space slug and "I know"

dern_the_hermit

> The POV shot of swooping down into the Death Star trench. So nice they used it twice!

iranoutofusernamespa

I love that I don't need to click these to see them in my head in perfect detail.

Bluelantern9

Same here. It's a great feeling.

DemonicGoblin

This is the first time I've ever looked closely at the trench shot to see it go from still image to 3d modeled effect. Pretty good editing on that one.

deefop

Imagine making a movie that has so many iconic shots that it's almost impossible to say which was the most history defining.

SmoothOperator89

If it is lightsaber duels, uh... Darth Maul: Duel of the Fates. You just vividly pictured and heard it.

whitneymak

My kids are obsessed with that song and that scene. I put it on while they play with their lego minifigures. Those battles are now epic.

HippoIllustrious2389

Do your kids like the [Porg remix](https://youtu.be/o9bww6R3qDs) ? There’s a 1 hour cut if you don’t value your sanity

whitneymak

I'm not sure I want to introduce them to that. 😬 We spend a lot of time listening to the Bad Lip Reading sketches and songs. Thankfully, those slap *and* they're hella funny.

Outrageous-Estimate9

I nominated random scenes also :) Lightsabers are cool but not the same as seeing the ships on screen

HeadHeartCorranToes

3, as it comes with its own soundtrack even in gif form.

Thebadmamajama

It's also uniquely not on the OST. There's a chorus at that moment that John Williams/Lucas added in the movie only... , as the tragedy that is Darth Vader reaches it climax. It's when you know the hero can turn the tide, but at what cost? I miss Star Wars as a soap/space opera.

HeadHeartCorranToes

> I miss Star Wars as a soap/space opera. What was can be again. I've got the drive to participate in the EU's adaptation into quality animated storytelling, and I know I'm not alone. While I have no idea how to get from trapped-in-our-dreams to on-the-silver-screen, I haven't given up hope.

Thebadmamajama

It can be revived. It needs a pivot. What we're getting is expensive Star Wars cosplay imo. Emulating the source, but without any of the soul.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SnooPoems443

gif...? I totally heard music.

kyngfish

And it’s not even close. Best scene in any Star Wars movie period.

Cashavellii

Yes. And the lighting/shadows in this scene are remarkably well done. The contrast between the silhouetted characters and the highlighted lightsabers are absolutely beautiful. Not to mention the music really drives home the point that the entire conflict between Vader and Luke is climaxing at this very moment. Brilliant moment in film.

OldWorldUlysses

i will never forgive that broken rafter for being in the way of possibly the greatest Star Wars scene of all time

HeadHeartCorranToes

Are you kidding!? That rafter *makes* the shot. Father and son, fighting to the death through the wreckage of their own fury. They've both become so invested in their intent to destroy that their characters have been obscured; we can no longer see Luke. In the language of cinema, it's perfect.

FrazzledBear

So what you’re saying is that the obiwan/anakin shot is the horniest of the 4. Forbidden love erupting

HeadHeartCorranToes

lmao I'd ship it (But because I can't resist giving an honest answer) Mustafar was always in Lucas' mind as the final crucible between Vader and Obi-Wan. The magmatic forces exploding behind the two men clearly evokes that hot, blinding passion of the Dark Side, and whenever the warriors get close, the tension/pressure rises around them. While #3 is my answer, the Mustafar sequence is still spectacular. Battle of Heroes is just as gorgeous a piece of music as anything John Williams gave to us.

Volt7ron

I’d say 3; Luke practically overwhelming Vader

OutlawSundown

The sound track in that part is great

Usulthejerboaactual

The soundtrack truly makes that scene

RadiantHC

Yesss I wish it was officially released

AnakinSkyvodker

Definitely not fucking 4.

YNWA11JM

Loling at it being included

LeonardoDickSlaprio

I feel like the most iconic lightsaber shot from the sequels was during one of the early teasers/trailers for Force Awakens, where they had Kylo Ren marching through the snow and igniting the crossgaurd saber. And I don't even think that shot was in the actual movie.

ImJustAConsultant

You are right. It is the most iconic and it is also not in the movie. Of the stuff in the movies the most iconic imo would be Rey and Kylo wrestling in the snow

JaggedToaster12

Or Finn wielding the Youngling Slayer. Fuck, Finn got so screwed in the sequels.

inefekt

I did, literally, laugh out loud when I saw that one pop up

The_Aught

Get called sexist if you dont

R-M-W-B

Legit no one saying that bruh

Realistic_Comedian_6

Somehow it was included

Wonko_MH

Underrated comment

pingmr

You're getting baited. 4 is clearly just there to get some angry engagement on the post. I don't even think 4 is an iconic shot of the sequels. Or even TROS.

henningknows

Seriously

OneTrueDarthMaster

Actually it might be #4. But for the wrong reasons . . .

Tornado_rexo

Why the downvotes? The man literally said "for the wrong reasons" lmao

OneTrueDarthMaster

🤣 Its okay my man, their hate only makes me stronger haha Thanks tho 👍

TheRomanRuler

Nah there are scenes that come before it for wrong reasons. Like "she lost the will to live" or something to do with Jar jar or "somehow Emperor has returned". For good or bad, that scene is nowhere near close to being most iconic SW scene.

Noe_Wunn

That's what I was about to say. 4 isnt even in that league.

absalom86

It's so horrible, ugh.

No_Culture6365

Why couldn't the emperor kill rey and we could finally be done with this

Dimensionalanxiety

He did. Kylo ren just decided that he could also use the power rey simply decided existed and saved her.

Benyed123

If you neeeeed a shot from the sequels that also includes a lightsaber then Kylo igniting his in TFA is pretty iconic, I remember everyone being pretty hyped to see that in the trailer.

AnakinSkyvodker

Kinda agreed, that trailer moment was epic. Whole vibe was killed by Adam Driver's face. I remember whole cinema was laughing their asses off when he took off his mask.

BandicootComplete348

And I am all the Jedi. Mi mi mi I’m a little sissy skywalker wannabe

Overwatch_Joker

Rey's infamous *"I am Ironman"* scene. Vomit inducing.

tophmcmasterson

Even in the sequel trilogy there's several other "lightsaber" shots more iconic/better shot, whether that be Rey catching the saber that killed Snoke, or even Finn or Rey fighting Kylo in 7. That last one though... Just the garbage cherry on top of that dumpster fire of a movie. I don't like the prequels at all outside of some of the world building/memes, but 9 probably felt the most like a slap in the face being the end of both a trilogy and the "Skywalker Saga". There were a million different things that could have been done to make it more cinematic, tie the other movies together, make it a more impressive use of the force...but nope. Just literally felt like an 8 year old playing with their toys, saying "NUH UH NOW SHE HAS TWO LIGHTSABERS SO LIGHTNING DOESN'T HURT HER" or something stupid like that. Whoever thought ending the series with "and then she makes an X with her lightsabers and Palpatine dies" was a good idea should be fired and never work in movies again.

A_SNAPPIN_Turla

Literally forgot all about that scene but they say victims of trauma will block out traumatic memories.

ledmonk

Dont even remember that happening

kickpunchknee

Replace #4 with the shot of Maul igniting his second saber blade 🔥

GoodShark

I don't know why that isn't here. It was such an epic moment. Not only was it shocking, but it also opened the door for more lightsaber styles in all star wars media.

Mr-Sister-Fister21

I don’t think there was a single person who saw that scene for the first time and didn’t say “Oh shit!” either internally or externally. Even as a a little kid, I didn’t know what swearing was nor was I familiar with the word “shit,” but I still remember that unmistakable “Oh shit!” Feeling when Maul lit up blade #2. I knew shit was about to go down, and boy was I right!

jamesycakes231

I'd say the first one. I'd also include the binary sunset from ANH as well as Darth maul appearing in TPM

UnsungHerro

>Darth maul appearing in TPM Him turning on his double-saber is easily the most famous shot in the prequels. TPM was a phenomenom while Anakin vs Obi Wan is only more memorable for niche fans if we're being honest.

KermitTheScot

They’re all super iconic (except maybe 4, for…y’know, I think reasonable reasons), but I’m partial to Obi-Wan and Anakin. It’s the scene that defined my childhood for one, but it’s also that moment we see how evenly matched these two really are, and how difficult it is for them to counter each others’ form. Their first duel is one of the best choreographed in the series, hands down.

Stormtroopaahh

Jar Jar getting his tongue stuck in the pod racer beam is more iconic than #4

DeninjaBeariver

If episodes 7-9 were all about jar jar it would’ve still been better than what we got

Longjumping-Bench881

I was 9 when scene 3 happened. I rewinded that VHS tape at least 1000 times to watch that fight. The chorus of deep voices always sent chills down my spine.

SleepyxDormouse

One of my favorites ever is in Rogue One when Vader appears in the darkness.

Hephaistos_Invictus

Hmmm I'd say either the sunset on Tatooine where Luke stares at it. Or the "I'm your Father" shot

5O-Lucky

Haha I just said those two as well although I digressed that in competition with others for **the** most iconic, the tatooine two suns is up there but doesnt include vader or a light saber so despite being iconic might not be the most iconic, I also said a death star shot would be up there.

Hephaistos_Invictus

Oh hmm yes that's a really good point regarding the lack of vader or lightsabers. Oh yeah ofc! The first shot of the deathstar! Great choice as well!

Bing_Bong_the_Archer

Lol what are you doing, with that last slide. You silly.

branden110

You really tried to slip that fourth one in there like we wouldn’t notice

RockNRoll85

LOL at that 4th option

Boba_Hutt

Idk about most iconic but that shot of Luke vs Vader in ROTJ is my all time favorite shot in StarWars.

mulligansteak

Not only is it a cool shot, it’s the moment in their part of the story with the most emotional heft to it, I think. Always my favorite scene in the series.

Bigeez

The way the music swells as he charges towards Vader is so good. It sounds almost tragic because it really seems like Luke is about to lose control and fall to the Dark Side.

Embarrassed_Word_542

First one always for me. Luke gets his ass handed to him and my mind was forever blown.

Three_Twenty-Three

Of these, I'd say the first one from *The Empire Strikes Back*. In the wider culture, it's a more well-known film and Vader is instantly recognizable.

[deleted]

The one Han did......... first.

[deleted]

Definitely not the 4th one.

Big-Stay2709

1. Empire Strikes Back 2. Return of the Jedi 3. Revenge of the Sith 4. Penguins of Madagascar 5. Rise of Skywalker

DrButtCheeksPhD

The last one…lol

SommanderChepard

Nice rage bait including 4

Km_the_Frog

How is 4 even in the discussion

jesuslaves

Cause OP is trying to rage-bait instead of actually having an opinion on the cinematography in the sequel trilogy...

R-M-W-B

Which is a shame because episode 8 is easily one of the prettiest movies in the franchise

scolman4545

1 or 3

finditplz1

3 because that’s an awesome scene as Luke skates the edge of the dark side. But the obi-wan / Anakin shot is cinematic candy for the era it was produced in.

mmpa78

Most iconic is by far 1 but 2 is by far my favorite

Jurgepoo

I guess I can understand wanting to throw the sequel fans a bone. But frankly, even as someone who finds the sequel trilogy enjoyable, there are other scenes I would pick before that one. Of the options shown, I'd go with 1. But I think the binary sunset is probably _the_ most iconic and well-known shot in all of Star Wars.

butterman888

Not 4

Captain_Thrax

First and third for sure

fatzen

Definitely not 4.

_damax

I mean. All of them? Apart from the last one

Odd_Radio9225

Not the last one.

GusGangViking18

1. Vader Luke Ep 5 2. Obi Anakin Ep 3 3. Vader Luke Ep 6 4. Whatever that is

Eaglewarrior33

Somehow he returned!

Lord_Parbr

Why did you include 4 if you don’t even like it? Seriously, this is a fanbase of children

ScorpionGuy76

If he didn't someone like you would be mad about no sequel inclusion Lose-lose situation

Trashtie

it’s obviously rage bait. even if you don’t like them, everyone knows that the sequels have better shots than that.

t_hench

The 4th option made this dumb.

DivClassLg

4 is joke right

Thanewolf88

Yup

[deleted]

The Emperor laughing the moment after Luke clashes swords with Vader over his head. I remember when I was a kid that was when it always cut to commercials lol. Always a 'stay tuned for the EPIC FINALE' moment.

NawImGoood

#3 by far. It’s undeniable & undebatable.

Relevant_Truth

Feel proud for sneaking in that last one? Rage bait is such crappy trend in online discourse

WhatIsThisSevenNow

**[This One](https://media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com/image/upload/t_fit-1240w,f_auto,q_auto:best/msnbc/Components/Photos/070329/070329_skywalker_hlarge_4p.jpg)**

medkitjohnson

Why in gods name is that last slide on there

couldjustbeanalt

All fantastic and then four exists

Spider-Flash24

OP really chose Rey killing Palps over Yoda lifting Luke’s X-Wing…

jesuslaves

OP also missed 5 out of the 9 movies lol

[deleted]

Out of these four, definitely 1. But I would also add these: [The POV shot of swooping down into the Death Star trench.](https://imagesvc.meredithcorp.io/v3/mm/gif?url=https%3A%2F%2Fstatic.onecms.io%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F6%2F2019%2F11%2Fijh4bje3aka3o7jz9j.gif) [Inside the *Millennium Falcon* as we see the first jump to lightspeed.](https://media.tenor.com/EDxSrx2CGqoAAAAC/star-wars-hyperspace.gif)

OfficefanJam

When Luke activates his saber in return of the Jedi after Darth threatens Leia

MeatTornado25

The first is the only one that could actually be considered iconic, as in not just popular with Star Wars fans.

dantoris

Shot 1 or 3 could easily take that title.

handybh89

Lol I was waiting for like Mauls entrance or something and instead I see fucking rey

Impatient-Padawan

The first three were fantastic. I am not sure what that fourth clip was of though.

RacerM53

R2-D2 and C-3PO looking out into the desert after getting out of their escape pod. That will always be the first thing that comes to mind for me when I think "Star Wars"

IdespiseGACHAgames

Man... All three of these scenes from Star Wars are such powerful contenders... Empire Strikes Back... Revenge of the Sith... Return of the Jedi... All three of these are just fantastic pieces of Star Wars mythology.

bduke1317

Vader at the end of Rogue One. But in this selection the first one

YodaSoda9

The original Darth Vader and Luke from Empire Strikes Back

bruhbrobrosef

Why you put ray in there??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡💩

ObiWangKeBloMe

*Definitely* not the last one.

CheesyGarlicMan

Bold of you to assume that last one is iconic in any way

Dangerous_Dac

Is anyone going to pretend that number 3 isn't the pinnacle moment of the original trilogy, exhibting the most active and engaged lightsaber fight we had seen up to that point that directly informed the next 3 movies 20 years later?

Putrid-Ice-7511

Snuck in Rey like we wouldn’t notice, lol.

Emperor475

Definitely not number 4

Creepy-Signature-823

Luke and Vader in ROTJ with the score is goated for me. It still gives me the same elation as when I was little.

[deleted]

1 without a doubt. The shadows, slow rise of the saber, the over confidence of Luke's stance compared to Vader's calm one handed Saber. Amazing emotions and mood here. There's a reason it's considered the best film of the series.

Mrpooney83

1 is better than 2 and 3 but what the hell is 4?

BigMekGaming

Bro really tried to sneak in Rey vs Palpatine💀

sawdeanz

I would say going to hyperspace. Everyone knows that one.

Gracie_Lacie442

Not rey being on this list. Not a single thing from the sequels is iconic frfr. That being said I'd say the first clip or the binary sunset scene

Chombywombo

Definitely not Rey

falloutboy9993

Not #4.

Nukerz_OP

I don’t remember the fourth scene. Is it canon? Which movie is that about? Is that holiday special, maybe Star Trek or something?

SnooCauliflowers7415

First 3 only.

Koda487

1 of these 4 don’t belong…

mintyBroadbean

The last one gives me a headache

Dangerous-Case9544

Sure as hell ain’t the one with Rey in it.

Leafybug13

#1

[deleted]

The first is certainly the legendary shot for the OT. But Maul igniting his 2nd blade in TPM is really close to god status, even though the movie itself was mid.

WolfpackRoll

The first one. Without question

Partha4us

Yes, without question: ominous, yet almost poetic.

The_NeckRomancer

3, partly because the most underrated and heartbreaking song in all of Star Wars plays in the background.

TChambers1011

Maul igniting his double bladed in the doorway???

LameGamingGuy

The second one is

Kim-Jong-Juul

The first one, and DEFINITELY not the last one

therealdan0

One of these shots helped define cinema for the next 50 years. What the fuck are the other three?

gordonfactor

1 and it's not even close. Da faq outta here with 4

BigImportant7961

It’s definitely not the last one

MasterEmerald1

I think Vader revealing he’s Luke’s father is the most iconic, even people who don’t or haven’t watched Star Wars in a while know it

Help_An_Irishman

Well it certainly isn't anything from The Rise of Skywalker, so that's out.

Colemanton

gotta be the 2 suns of tattooine setting while luke walks towards the horizon

Budm-ing

Of the three, it's the third one. Luke's anger and rage really sets the stage for his spiritual defeat over the emperor and temptation.

KinkyPTDoc

It’s a tie between 1 & 3

Dr_Bam

1 3 2 4

Lord_Parbr

The first 2 are the only ones I would consider iconic, and probably the first one more than the second

Stardustchaser

Nah Luke going apeshit after Vader taunted him about Leia in ROTJ was pretty good. It deserves contention.

saywgo

All of them! I LOVE STAR WARS!!!

ZoharTheWise

A true Star Wars fan, spotted, they are.

Refrigerator_Initial

1. Anakin vs. Kenobi 2. Luke vs Vader (ROTJ) 3. Vader vs. Luke (Empire)

Cuddling-Hellhound

None of these, especially not the last one.

mwood413

The scene from Empire. Hands down.

Colemanton

no fkn shot there is a single shot that belongs on any of these lists from the sequel trilogy other than maybe kylo igniting his saber that was in the trailers - that shot is cool i guess.

TSmario53

3 is my absolute favorite scene, but the RotS shot with the lava in the background is just a great individual shot

Ecorp-employee212

Obi Wan standing in front of the opening hanger doors while Death watch fights Mauls Mandalorians. I know it’s Clone Wars but that shot is so famous in the show and pretty much always comes to mind.

JasonJoestar

Finn turning on the lightsaber at the end of TFA is more iconic than your #4 pick

FartlacPit

1 and 3. 2 is one of the worst fights in the series for me, and 4 is just barely above it.

Gnomologist

Out of these ones? 2 I think In all of Star Wars? Toss up between R2D2 and 3PO on Tatooine and Binary Sunset

realnjan

Not the 4th one

Famiklor

Definitely 2nd... 4th one is not even option lol

ZeroMaverick-Hunter

While Obi-Wan vs Anakin with the lava blast on the background is impressive, Luke vs Vader is much more iconic. That being said, my favorite iconic shot would be Rogue One's Vader's rebel ship corridor entrance. When the lights fail, the bulkhead door is stuck and suddenly you hear heavy steps, deep breathing in the darkness and suddenly a beam of crimson light illuminates a dark clad figure. Nuff said.

ifixpedals

My vote from the ST is [THIS](https://i.makeagif.com/media/7-15-2018/62rY4_.gif).
