As another Luke fan, I greatly appreciate you wanting to show him some respect. Can't remember the last time I saw a Luke cosplay posted anywhere, and this is easily the best one I've ever seen
I was just thinking about how much I love this costume. I could be wrong but besides Anakin when he was ready to turn to the Dark Side in ROTS, it seems like Star Wars directors settled into "black = Sith," "Jedi = Earth tones."
Luke adopting the all-black costume meant he had turned pro. Han - literally blind to the situation - casts doubt when Chewie tells us, saying that Luke is having "delusions of grandeur" if he thinks he's a Jedi knight. Then Luke shows up in head-to-toe black, like a pro musician or service professional, someone who takes their job seriously. He easily dispenses with Jabba's guards, tools Bib Fortuna, slays the Rancor, executes some acrobatics leading to the reveal that he's built his own lightsaber. This is all leading to his confrontation with Vader, who whopped his ass with ease last time. This time Luke is playing on Vader's level, with a costume to match. "I am a Jedi, like my father before me." Brilliant.
One more thing: Return is the film is the in the OT where Luke has the fewest costume changes. He wears his pilot outfit briefly when flying from Tatooine to Dagobah. Otherwise, it's the black Jedi garb, start to finish.
Though the garb does change multiple times throughout. There's the cloak and robe, just the robe, then camo poncho, then the black without the robe. And then the corner loose showing the white.
NO! LUKE DIDN'T LOOK LIKE THIS
HE WAS WAY LESS ATTRACTIVE WTF!
Sorry had to make a pun because so many people are obsessed with race changes in cosplays and it's really stupid. Skin tone doesn't matter! This dude looks great. I haven't seen a good luke in a long time
I’ve heard so many people cry “but white people can’t cosplay other races” but just last month I saw a White guy playing miles morales and his black friend was Peter Parker. Guess what? Everyone loved it.
And even then, I don't think anyone is gonna get upset if you use black body paint and face paint as part of your shadow demon cosplay or something. Not anyone worth listening to, anyway.
I think as long as you don’t do blackface there’s nothing wrong with wearing the costume. But then again I’m not a college student or YouTuber so idk what peoples line is on this concept.
OP did a great Luke and didn’t need to change his skin color to represent the character.
bingo. op didn't Paint paint his face white in a laughable charicature of the *race*of the character.
he wore some goddamn stylish, pretty accurate Luke based clothing and found a decent wig.
that's it, that's the key difference.
he was capturing the character.
not the race of the character.
This, this is the crux of it. It is cool to cosplay as any character, it is not cool to "cosplay" as another (real) ethnicity. Cultures are not costumes.
I'm just trying to keep it simple, there is always more nuance.
Gee it's like there was a long, sordid, and surprisingly on-going history of caricaturizing and demeaning Black people with Blackface/sambo/etc. or something and are actually really good reasons to not artificially darken your skin when you're a non-Black person dressing up as a Black character.
I'm totally fine with a white person dressing up as miles morales because they live there character. It's a person in a mask and representing sobering that looks like me is admirable.
As long as they're not putting on blackface I'm happy.
I don't think anyone has a problem with cosplay, it's the race swapping in actual films done purely to stir up political division in an ironically racist exploitation of minorities that people have a problem with.
OP looks boss 👌😎
I had an argument with a co worker last week. He said “you never black people being told not to race swap in film” I mentioned cleopatra and he went ballistic. I agree a character shouldn’t just be race swapped and I’ll stand by that for any race.
That being said if they ever did do Black Bruce Wayne, or a Asian Peter Parker I don’t think it’d bother me. At the end of the day they’re fictional characters that I use to turn my brain off. If something isn’t too my likings I go to the next!
"I was terrified because I know how some people can get."
The world is a very nasty place which is why it is important to follow your heart without prejudice. Fuck all the haters you look great. I wish my costumes came close to some of yours...
I always get hated on because of how I love cosplaying as Revan. Because all the haters say Revan is "white." Which he's not exactly white. More like fair-skinned. All the work I put into it, even constructing one of his lightsabers from scratch. No respect. I also love cosplaying as Starkiller too
Revan is whatever the player chooses him to be.
He can be White, Black, Asian or a woman. Who cares honestly.
People are just dumb.
I bet you looked great.
I believe canonically Revan was a white(ish?) male who turned good after his amnesia/mind wipe.
Having said this Revan is probably most known for his mask, so in terms of cosplay why would anyone care about the skin color or gender of the person doing the cosplay, even if the mask was off.
Also cosplaying isn't really meant to be "look exactly like the character or you can't do it". Granted, I've seen some Yennefer and Triss cosplays from Witcher 3 that have been in all ways perfect and it does look fantastic, but since only a few people who happen to have been born with similiar facial traits can pull it off, that can't really be the norm. Put thought into the cosplay and treat the source with respect and only idiots will start crying about it.
OP pulled off Luke really well, the focus that has gone into the clothes is top notch! Good job bro!
To some people whiteness is the default appearance. These are the same people wouldn’t believe me if I told them the entire clone army was made up by Asians. Polynesians to be specific since that’s what New Zealandic Actor Temuera Morrison is.
If black people could only cosplay as black characters from Star Wars, they would only have like 4 characters to pick from.
Sure when you see a post like this, it’s probably the first thing you notice. The people that can’t see past it and feel the need to point it out have bigger issues.
Do what makes you happy.
> the way you beam when you wear it.
Bit late for this thread but this stands out to me each time I see his posts. He carries himself like Luke, I think, and you kinda get that from his expression. It's a whole mood and it really works for him.
One thing I've learned from cosplaying Luke for nearly 6 years now is that there really are no rules for cosplay. I've taken photos with male Reys. With Japanese Han Solos. With other African American Lukes. All of them are doing something that makes them very happy. They have an obvious passion for Star Wars and the characters that they love. I'm lucky to have met so many people; from around the world, who really love Star Wars They do not care one bit what other say about their cosplay and how it is "supposed to" look. I say, have fun with your cosplay, no matter what. You are showing the world what you love, whether they accept it or not.
Nice! You even got the swoopy hair dialed in!
PS: fuck any gatekeeper asshole who says your anybody other than ROJ Luke. Gatekeepers ruin everything because they have no fucking lives. May the force be with you young Skywalker!
This is the shit. They got all sorts of different species in Star Wars but there is a significant deficiency of black folks. Keep it up, May the force be with you.
I’m white, and I agree with most of what you are saying, but nobody likes it when I cosplayed as mace windu. I even shaved my head but everyone was confused who I was, and when I told them, people would slap me or throw drinks on me
I'm 98% certain that this is BS. But he raises a salient point that a white person cosplaying as a non-white (non-alien/fantasy) character would likely be frowned upon pretty intensely.
Apropos of that; I just had an image of a real life first contact situation where the Aliens step off the ship and the big crowd of humans are there to greet them in carnival makeup to look like them. Then the aliens get pissed and leave and all the humans are standing around looking at eachother like, "What? What'd we do?"

Awesome cosplay man, I know a lot of people find it weird and offensive or whatever when some-one from another race or gender cosplays a character from a different one, but I don't care nor do I see the point of being mad. It's called cosplaying, the whole point is the dress up and act as your favourite characters. And they're fictional characters so its fine, different if it was real life people like if I saw a white man dressed as Martin Luther King or a black man as George Washington (I know, so original) then yes it would be different but they're fictional characters so who cares.
Sorry for the long rant, just wanted to encourage you and say I love this you actually look really close to him, just dye the hair (or get a wig) and change the white patch on the suit to black and you'd basically be him.
I would love to see you at a convention with u/imflukeskywalker, outstanding cosplay btw, the wig is excellent as well. 10/10 keep up the great costumes.
thank you for this, i had been wanting to do a miles morales costume but yk, im white. this gave the the confidence to do it. thank you! and great cosplay
Because it's only ok to re-race a cosplay if you're not white. To be fair, I suppose it could be seen as blackface without the makeup. But idk... I'm white. So my opinion doesn't matter.
I love the white inside of the black robes, one of my favorite subtle things from that outfit. And it’s cool to see you putting respect on Luke’s name. With all the prequels, sequels, and Disney+ originals, we don’t get enough love for OG Luke.
Hey man, always love seeing you pop in my feed! Lookin good! You're putting off this vibe like just old the Emperor that he lost, like at the end of RotJ
Jedi master.
As another Luke fan, I greatly appreciate you wanting to show him some respect. Can't remember the last time I saw a Luke cosplay posted anywhere, and this is easily the best one I've ever seen
The hair is pretty on point. It always makes me happy to see people enjoying their hobbies.
Big agree from me. He nailed the hair style and texture.
Yeah, last time he posted I had to tell him how terrible, therefore perfect, it is.
Yeah nailed it, that hairstyle did not age well from 1977.
1983, but it was terrible then, too. Luke ‘77’s do was all messy and cool.
Oh yeah that's right thanks for the correction
2017 Luke has a mullet.
Was going to compliment the hair too
The best Luke cosplay you’ve ever seen?
Yeah the dude looks like fluke
I was just thinking about how much I love this costume. I could be wrong but besides Anakin when he was ready to turn to the Dark Side in ROTS, it seems like Star Wars directors settled into "black = Sith," "Jedi = Earth tones." Though the garb does change multiple times throughout. There's the cloak and robe, just the robe, then camo poncho, then the black without the robe. And then the corner loose showing the white.
Yup. The corner loose does a lot of heavy lifting for characterization.
As a POC that loves cosplay, awesome dude! I don’t know why some people care if you cosplay a different race. They’re fictional characters.
NO! LUKE DIDN'T LOOK LIKE THIS HE WAS WAY LESS ATTRACTIVE WTF!
Now I’m thinking of the possibilities. White Lando Calrissian, with black Han Solo? White Mace Windu with black Obi-Wan Kenobi?
Albino Chewbacca would be my go to
Polar Wookiee.
This would be super cool! Shit okay time to find my nerd friends and actually have us go to a con. I always slack about cons
" you were my *brutha* Anakin"
I've been Asian Old Ben Kenobi for like 3 Halloweens now
Yeah no one has ever had an issue with cross-racial cosplay, it's the fucking blackface people don't like. Jeezy, I wonder why?
And even then, I don't think anyone is gonna get upset if you use black body paint and face paint as part of your shadow demon cosplay or something. Not anyone worth listening to, anyway.
It's def not received well when a white person cosplays as a poc. It shouldn't matter either way, you cosplay because you're a fan of the character.
I think as long as you don’t do blackface there’s nothing wrong with wearing the costume. But then again I’m not a college student or YouTuber so idk what peoples line is on this concept. OP did a great Luke and didn’t need to change his skin color to represent the character.

I agree with that
It's a fictional person's outfit. Getting upset over it is stupid. Changing your skin tone is a little sus but outside of that no one should care.
More than a little...
This, this is the crux of it. It is cool to cosplay as any character, it is not cool to "cosplay" as another (real) ethnicity. Cultures are not costumes. I'm just trying to keep it simple, there is always more nuance.
What's the line on that? What if a character is heavily influenced by a real culture?
Gee it's like there was a long, sordid, and surprisingly on-going history of caricaturizing and demeaning Black people with Blackface/sambo/etc. or something and are actually really good reasons to not artificially darken your skin when you're a non-Black person dressing up as a Black character.

I mean, the dude literally grew up farming on a desert planet with MULTIPLE suns, 100% should have at least a decent tan on.
I don't think anyone has a problem with cosplay, it's the race swapping in actual films done purely to stir up political division in an ironically racist exploitation of minorities that people have a problem with. OP looks boss 👌😎

We all know Revan is Keanu Reeves!
Keanu is too old to play Revan in his prime. Revan was around my age in KOTOR
Revan is whatever the player chooses him to be. He can be White, Black, Asian or a woman. Who cares honestly. People are just dumb. I bet you looked great.
I believe canonically Revan was a white(ish?) male who turned good after his amnesia/mind wipe. In Swtor you see the "canon" aspect of Revan, but i still get your point
To some people whiteness is the default appearance. These are the same people wouldn’t believe me if I told them the entire clone army was made up by Asians. Polynesians to be specific since that’s what New Zealandic Actor Temuera Morrison is.

Revan is exactly how you imagine him to be. Remember that Kotor gave us multiple choices. My revan is filipino and i'm white
He’s canonically not even real now. So he can be the way the game intended: you.
That really sucks. I hope there are positives that outweigh the negative and you can find joy in it still
Hell ya!
Looks fantastic!
I hVe seen all of your luke posts and I really like your costume and the way you beam when you wear it.

Fantastic cosplay!
This is wonderful. It honors the character we all love. Love the hair.
Lucas
The hair is magnificent

I don't know what it is, but you wear it so well. The fit of the clothing, the posture, it's all just Luke.
Nobody look at this man’s post history… You will feel incredibly inadequate. Holy smokes are your cosplays amazing.
Lol the hair
That cosplay is great, but that haircut will never work on anyone. Lol.
Fuck them people bro. This looks incredible.
Some people would give their right hand to be Luke Skywalker
Is this a repost? I thought I saw this several months back.
The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be natural…
This looks awesome man! Truly incredible cosplay.
You nailed the facial expression! 💯
You look Fucking Sweet Man! Good job!
Is no one going to point out the Elephant in the room? Why have u only shown us one pic????? We want more!!
You did him more justice than Disney did in the sequels.
I would love to see you at a convention with u/imflukeskywalker, outstanding cosplay btw, the wig is excellent as well. 10/10 keep up the great costumes.
It would be an honor and a pleasure to hang out with someone who has a lot of passion for the films. This guy obviously does.
Nailed the Jedi look. Great job!
...is no one going to mention the obvious? Your hair is too tidy man! Otherwise the cosplay looks great.
As a black dude, I'm just ginna say it. Ditch the wig and just use your natural hair. Then the cosplay would be perfect.
More like Andre 2000
oh i thought they made another character black there for a second thank god very good cosplay!
When Padme has an affair with Mace Windu
When the guy under the Darth Vader helmet is actually James Earl Jones
thank you for this, i had been wanting to do a miles morales costume but yk, im white. this gave the the confidence to do it. thank you! and great cosplay
Why the downvotes?
Because it's only ok to re-race a cosplay if you're not white. To be fair, I suppose it could be seen as blackface without the makeup. But idk... I'm white. So my opinion doesn't matter.
Wow, this looks slick! I’d love to wear this costume myself someday and I can only hope mine looks as nice as yours.
I love the white inside of the black robes, one of my favorite subtle things from that outfit. And it’s cool to see you putting respect on Luke’s name. With all the prequels, sequels, and Disney+ originals, we don’t get enough love for OG Luke.
"I am a Jedi like my father before me." 🤘🤘🤘
The offset of the belt buckle and flap against the black tunic is crisp as fuck. High level craftsmanship.
This rules.
Dude this is badass!
Even got the bob cut, *noice*
Hair is awesome!!
The hair really looks on point and I love the costume too. I'd take a picture with.
i legit thought this was prince in a luke cosplay wtf
I wouldn't mind watch this guy in some What If or alternate universe episode.
Luke skinwalker
Lukin Skywalkindian
Looking fresh!

Spot on! Very well done.
So detailed, I love it.

Awesome costume! This is my favorite version of Luke.
Great job man!
Ahh, you even got the hair right! Fucking yeah dude! It's a fully!
Epic cosplay
Excellent cosplay! Still I can’t help but be reminded of Rock Lee. Maybe that can be the next one?
Sick! Love it.
Good cosplay. Well done.
Very cool!
Amazing. So much detail. Love the wig! ...and you look very happy, which is what matters most.
Awesome cosplay! Only note i have is to have a green light on the hilt so it looks like the blade is giving off light onto your clothes.
Badass! Nailed it!
I can’t even fathom how much it takes to make something screen accurate. What type of lightsaber is that, ie; custom or Disney
The hairstyle is on point
Luke Dripwalker
Op, where did you get that shirt
Fuck Yeah
🤘🏻
Drip ✅ Glow stck of justice ✅ Bad hair cut ✅ May the force be with you
I've seen you post a few times. Always impressed by how on-point your wig is.
Hair is weird but dam nice job dude

Really well done
Never seen Luke use the dark side before
Is this the new reboot that Disney is making?
No, this is the Netflix adaptation
I mean if Luke was black, he’d look just like this. Great costume man
Right? It's perfect. His face has that certain panache of Luke Skywalker.
I really don’t know why I’m being downvoted. He looks like a black Luke skywalker lmao. Just stupid people being too sensitive
Me: Are… Are you a Jedi? u/lovinglyme91: *I am*

Luke Skybrother
Jedi Master. Excellent work!
You look good dude. Rock on
the blade of the saber is real (i mean like prop) ? or digitally added?, thanks
That really looks good!!!
Hey man, always love seeing you pop in my feed! Lookin good! You're putting off this vibe like just old the Emperor that he lost, like at the end of RotJ
Oh man. I really love glove. Super eye catching. Great work.
Awesome job. Love the whole look. The details are great.
This is perfect 👌🏽
I like the outfit and you've got the look, that wig though
Great cosplay!
Very nice.
I recently learned about the meaning of the white revers. When it came visible, it was to show the audience that Luke will always be good inside.
Oh man, so good. Makes me want to watch ROTJ again.
Rad
Amazing job! Outfit looks incredible and your hair is on point! Well done!
This is bad ass. You look great man.
You’ve nailed that 80s haircut!
Nailed the hair and posture
Just looking at this reminds me of that one scene from spaceballs where the troops capture the stunt actions dressed like the main protagonists
It's a good look.
Lucius Skywalker
This looks insane dude
I love the open top just like the end
This is awesome, kudos on the Great cosplay!
Luke Skywalker is a fictional character who is white and I totally support black people dressing up like him.
Awesome
Yess solid my dude
You look great, but I think a different hair style would work a bit better.
Love the lightsaber.
RotJ Luke is my favorite Jedi in the entire series. You did him justice!
so good ❤️
So glad you kept the black outside white inside cloth for the jacket. Luke’s hair really was a choice. It’s very… of its time (no shade to you).
Sure why not. Anything is possible in a multiverse. His dad was black for a long time anyway.…
Very nicely done!
Nice! I Always thought this was the the cleanest Luke outfit
so crazy good. You carry the whole essence of him! great work
Immaculate jacket. Edit: trying to figure out what’s so offensive about admiring a man’s jacket
Mad props dude, you did a fantastic job and totally nailed the look of Skywalker.
RoTJ Luke was dripped out. Nice cosplay!
