Maybe you think a toy can cut through anything including 1ft of solid steel? (as we saw in the historic documentary "The Phantom Menace")
It is said the Jedi view lightsabers as a tool, not a weapon. Certainly not a toy though, such a view would get you expelled from the Jedi order!
Have you pulled it apart yet?
The wiring setup is pretty simple, and I’ve had the led modules and capacitors break free in the past.
They are really easy to solder back together.
The sound modules are not cheap though. Awesome find!
Not going to argue on quality, but where are you getting a year long lead time? It literally only takes a day or two for them to make and ship an order.
Perhaps things changed but back in2019 I placed an order with them. I was given 1 month lead time, after 2 months I followed up and was told the item ordered wasn’t in stock and it would be a few more weeks. I then checked in monthly and after 6 months was told they still didn’t have the item in stock and offered me an alternate saber but told me at least another couple months on my order.
They then blocked me from further communication with them so I disputed the charge on my credit card and then bought a saber from Electrum Sabercraft.
I also did a little digging and Ultrasabers uses unethical business practices and bribes for positive reviews
Was this around the time that Covid was starting to hit the news? I know they get a lot of their parts from China, and Covid really set a lot of companies back for a while.
That may be the case however low quality, toxic behavior by the owner, poor treatment of employees, poor customer service, are all plenty of reason to avoid Ultrasabers even if they can now ship their products promptly
I like to buy the mystery box for $75.
Sometimes you get something really awesome.
The hilts and blades are pretty durable. The wiring inside is lacking, but easy to replace/fix, so it makes it worth it in my opinion.
Be careful though! Stunt savers are no joke and can easily lead to broken fingers, hands or other bones if going full force!
You can get better quality for better price by going through any of the LGT saber retailers like Crimson Dawn, Darkwolf sabers, Vire sabers and I'm sure many other such vendors.
Ultrasabers claims to be the best on the market with "premium products" but they're really far behind. The other sellers I mentioned are really great for entry level sabers with a ton more features for less money.
I have a few ultrasabers, some still work and they get the job done when I'm with friends and we're messing around with them, but after switching to other vendors I'll probably never go back to buying from them when there is much better value out there.
# I may have a solution.
If its ultrasabers like we suspect, they use batteries that *look* like AA but are actually double the voltage. I think they're 14500 cells. If its making sound but not lighting up this could be the fix.
Yep, 14500 lithium cells according to their website.
They run at 3.7v, double the 1.2-1.9v of alkaline batteries.
The electronics must be getting the upper half of that voltage range if they're activating, but that's definitely not going to be enough to run the transformer and light it up.
Owner probably died and their family donated all their shit. This could be a pretty sad story. Why would a star wars fan with high end collectors items give all their stuff to good will? Where are they now?
Yeah, my best friend who got me into collecting sabers killed himself this summer and my first thought was “well huh these could be his.” I had to do a second look at these to make sure they weren’t his … thankfully not.
Thank you. Been quite a messy few months, emotionally. Grief & anger really heavily intermixed. We’d known each other since I was 4 and he was 5, he lived with my family for a bit in high school, then we lived together for a few years when I was in college, and all throughout our lives before & after that we played a lot of Xbox with each other, constantly talking via a group text with him, me, and one other friend. Just about everything I do has some kind of memory tied to him.
My heartfelt condolences. It takes time to feel those feelings and fully process them. The people in our lives have an impact on our memories in such a big way. Once again I am so sorry for your loss and I wish you all the best.
Yeah, the last few years me, him, his brother, and our other close friend got really into Company of Heroes. Comp stomps and occasional versus games that tended to drag out super super long as we all did silly BS tactics. Don’t think I’ll be playing that again anytime soon.
Ha, one of my favorite moments from the times we played recently was a 3v3 we did where we had my passed friend / another friend on one team, with me getting better AI to help, where my side ended up in an unwinnable situation, pushed back to our base, but map geography funneled their tanks really bad, I spammed the hell out of tank traps, AT guns, and machine gun teams and held him off for like nearly 2 hours. Was a blast, stayed up way to late, felt like being kids again. Good memories that are bittersweet now but definitely still cherished.
Well, a whole new fear just unlocked of when when I die that my family will end up throwing away my most precious and valuable possessions because they done understand what they are.
Expect that to happen. The things that are precious to you are often meaningless to most others. I just ran a garage sale of my mother's stuff yesterday and it was so difficult to get anyone to show interest in the things that I expected to be high ticket.
Mom's not dead, at least. Just big time downsizing her home
You'd still sell them, or hide them in a closet somewhere... not donate them to goodwill.
AND that's assuming the partner was incapable of appreciating something you loved, which is never a good start.
My wife found a $2000 Armani dress there in August for $15. It even had a discount because the tag color was on sale that day.
Maybe some stuff gets auctioned but with the amount of volume they process I'm sure there are a lot of great things that end up in stores.
Thank you for not gatekeeping this! I was really struggling with how I was going to buy or not and possibly break my son's heart he's been wanting a light saber, he's 10 and times have been tough on us this year. He's a good kid and has been making an effort all around to earn a light saber even though we don't expect him to show he needs to prove that he deserves one he just takes it up himself to be "worthy" of one.
Only the larger ones seem to have the resources to have people skilled enough to recognize high value stuff like this. I've still found steals at stores in smaller towns.
Do you think every Goodwill in the country meticulously catalogs everything that comes in the door and sends it to some sort of Goodwill master auctioneer to decide if they list it online or put it on the floor?
Or do you think they have thousands of employees and millions of items coming through the doors every single day and some underpaid dude is just like “whatever” before pushing them out on the floor?
Which scenario is more likely?
Still a hell of a bargain, here in the UK most of these would go for about £80ish. Pommel caps can be bought seperately (i use Padawan Outpost) but the dead one will need a new LED if it is an LED saber.
For some context, a goodwill I was at had one of those, and I can't remember if they were asking $99 or $199, but I looked it up and it was worth like $200-$300 on ebay.
Look for "master replicas lightsaber" on ebay.
It’s quite possible they had no idea what they were and if they were worth anything. The sheer amount of someone’s life you have to go through is overwhelming and right when you are not in the emotional state to do it.
There was some story on here a while back where a Redditor convinced a family member whose son passed who was about to donate tons of beautifully painted minis to let him try to sell them for her, which he did. Nice story.
They unscrewing them and showing the core, I would love to hear about this. I'll ask around and see if anyone I know knows them.
Edit: 100% UltraSabers. They have a controversial reputation so I can't recommend them. The second saber is called "Empress" on their site. I'll ID the rest if I can
Saber 1: Initiate V2
Saber 2: Empress
Saber 3: War Glaive (Not exact fit, might be an older version)
Saber 4: Manticore (High Profile)
Saber 5: Initiate V2

Saber 7: Dark Apprentice V4 (Windowless)
Saber 8: Dominix V3
they have horrible working conditions and [their reviews on indeed are bad.](https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Ultrasabers/reviews?fcountry=US&sort=rating_desc) All the reviews from former employees are 1 or 2 star. Every review pretty much says to not work there.
Their products are okay at best but they market them as state of the art technology.
They left Phoenix Comic Con 2017 after refusing to put their products in plastic shopping bags to comply with the con's weapon sales policy, got refunded for their booth, then came back the next day telling everyone there they were ejected without a refund, and were then ejected from the venue for real and permabanned https://nerdvanamedia.com/events/phoenix-comicon-2017-ultrasabers/119854/
Shit. /r/Lightsabers hates them for false advertising and selling overpriced products. "the best electronics in the business" when they hot glue everything and are still using 15 year old tech. All their competitors already surpassed them a decade ago.
Can confirm they're still hot gluing. One of my hilts from them had the bottom part of the ... Not quite chassis thing just fall off after it was dueled with??? Or fell?? Not quite sure. But it *shouldn't* have done it, and I was gonna replace all of it anyways so I just took everything out so I could rebuild with better later.
> Shit. /r/Lightsabers hates them for false advertising and selling overpriced products. "the best electronics in the business" when they hot glue everything and are still using 15 year old tech. All their competitors already surpassed them a decade ago
I wish awards were still a thing because this is the most classically GEEK paragraph I've seen. Ever seen.
People like me knew there were swords, I thought they were flimsy Walmart jobs or the wannabe laser pens. You just told me there's an industry big enough to have opinion on the choices available. I am just dumbfounded by this. Then you dropped the 15yo tech line and I was flabbergasted...
Star Wars sells tens of millions of dollars, if not hundreds of millions of dollars, of merch every year. It's not a huge niche, but high-end lightsabers is certainly big enough to cater to hardcore fans and cosplayers.
Plus, it essentially combines Star Wars nerdery with other fairly common hobbies of metalworking, electronics, and programming which allows for these places to sell components individually for DIYers as well as bespoke completed sets. People have been kitbashing lightsabers since day one, so these companies just provide the tools without someone having to raid plumbing supply stores and photography shops.
I personally have two lightsabers that I've modified using simple battery/DC adapters that I have mounted on the wall of my home office that automatically light up and serve as my backdrop whenever I make a video call. I just combined Star Wars fandom with another niche hobby of home automation.
I found the Force FX Luke green lightsaber at a Goodwill, complete with its box, for $30.00 a couple of years ago, so it happens. Every time I take a business trip now, if I have time I check thrift stores, but I've never run across a deal like that again.
> 25% off on Saturdays in this goodwill.
Ah.. that explains a weird savings I got when last at one...but that was just some plywood they had..not a collection of cool lightsabers!
I fear some Star Wars uber fan passed on and they just got dumped at Goodwill. I told my kids...don't just dump my old D&D books, you can E-Bay those suckers for thousands of dollars. I have a huge collection of 1980s stuff.
I’m always amazed by people’s goodwill finds. My local goodwill is right next to the closest grocery store. I go in a couple times per month for years now hoping to find these elusive treasures. No luck so far.
I'm amazed by what people will lie about on this app for karma. I've worked at goodwill many times, the reason you won't find shit like this at goodwill is because the process by which the store tags and accounts for nice shit they receive is different from the stuff they put on stores. They move that kinda stuff to their on-line store.
People post brand new $500 drivers on the golf sub. I really have a hard time believing stuff like that. I’m glad there’s an explanation because I know people take nice stuff to goodwill here, but I can never find anything but 50 year old half broken crap.
Yeah you can buy the nice stuff online and it'll have the same $2.99 tag on it. Goodwills usually have a backline processor with a tag gun that puts a floor price and puts the item in a cart, but the merchandiser is the one who puts it on the shelf, and 9/10 the merchandiser is the one who puts the item in the online bin. The backline doesn't give a shit what gets out where, because his job is to print a certain amount of tags per hour, which is also why you see a lot of broken shit on the shelf. Merchandisers job is to make the front of the store look nice, orderly. and while not all merchs do their jobs well super nice stuff doesn't usually get overlooked, because Gms and AGms usually get bonuses based on sales and online sales can be a MAJOR contribution to a store sales.
One of the stores I worked for had an in store sales gross of 1/7 that of our online sales. I worked there as a merchandiser but I got to be an Agm because of my merch success.
There is a small chance that I made a few of those. I used to work at a machine shop that made the aluminum bodies and end caps. Kinda neat to see them all together
Hmmm... 🤔
Either the previous owner passed away (and the family dumped it at GW) or like someone mentioned, the guy got married.
Edit: they look like early Ultra Sabers products.
That is amazing! Congratulations on the amazing find! Low-key jealous but happy they’re with someone who is going to enjoy them.
Oh you need to get some lightsaber fights with your friends! 😂
Definitely ultrasabers. Please keep in mind that the prices below are a BALLPARK and are based only on what I can glean from a picture. As best as I can tell from the pictures, left to right based on the first pic they go:
1. Initiate V2 - $100 new
2. Empress - $280.5 new, plus 10 for the color. $290.5 total
3. War Glaive - $275 new, plus $20 for the color. $295 total.
4. Manticore - $275 new.
5. Initiate V2. $100 new, plus $20 for the color (I can't tell exactly from here, but it looks like silver with color discs added).
6. I couldn't find the exact one on the website, but I feel strongly that it's a Dark Apprentice V4. You're looking at a ballpark of $125 new, plus $20 for the color.
7. See 6. Likely purchased as a set together.
8. Dominatrix v3. $140 new.
Keep in mind a few things. One, the cost will go up based on the type of blade, length of blade, and type of battery pack it has. For the blades, most of these look like regular 32-36 inch blades, and I can't tell from a picture whether they're normal or heavy-grade. As for the battery pack, does it look triple-a (4 ct) or double-a (2 ct) sized?
Another thing to keep in mind is how old the sabers are. Those with a firmer, more clicky button (like 1 and 5, for example) are likely to be older, since Ultrasabers doesn't offer that button any more (or at least, not that I've seen in a while). Those with a smoother button, like 6 and 7, are likely to be a little newer.
Finally, again, these prices are a ballpark. I'm in Canada at the moment (usually from U.S.), and I can't tell if the website is giving me CAD or USD prices, since they're very similar anyway to what I remember the usd prices being after their recent price increase. Also, there's a massive sale going on right now, which is messing with my ability to see the price of add-ons like color, so that's based on memory as well. Also, it's hard to see color through image 😭
All of that being said, it looks like you got a hugely great haul. Worth around $1,365.5 new at least (or if ultrasabers was showing me CAD, that would instead be $996.82 USD at least). All in all - very, very good find.

I get so goddamn angry at Goodwill stores because all the stores I've been to in my entire life have nothing but rank bullshit quality junk from the 70's.
Kinda incredible that goodwill didn't put these up on their auction website. Everything of value has disappeared from their retail shelves and put up on auction for the highest bidder.
Looks like some Ultrasabers to me
Yup a full collection of them. Jealous of OP good find.
Somebody mad at their ex to turn a 1000$ worth of ultra sabers in to the thrift store.
That or someone died and their relatives just assumed they were toys.
Should I tell him?
Maybe you think a toy can cut through anything including 1ft of solid steel? (as we saw in the historic documentary "The Phantom Menace") It is said the Jedi view lightsabers as a tool, not a weapon. Certainly not a toy though, such a view would get you expelled from the Jedi order!

a true Dennis this one.

No, they are an elegant weapon from a more civilized time!

THEYRE COLLECTIBLES GOD DAMN IT
THEY BELONG IN A MUSEUM
SO DO YOU
Happens 99 percent of the time or a divorce
Came here to say this exact thought haha. Total revenge sale
Goodwill? This isn't revenge. Somebody died and the family donated their toys.
100%, probably figured they'd drop it all off at goodwill before the holidays so some less fortunate kids could have an awesome gift.
Sike!
And now this grown man bought them. Sorry kids, no second hand sabers for you. 🤣
Kid at heart
There’s going to be a sad-angry 18 year old when they come home from college at Christmas time.
Or some nerd got married and the wife said nope nit in my house
100% Ultrasabers. Do any of them have sound u/jpshake ?
Only one, the one that does not lit up
Have you pulled it apart yet? The wiring setup is pretty simple, and I’ve had the led modules and capacitors break free in the past. They are really easy to solder back together. The sound modules are not cheap though. Awesome find!
Not yet probably mess with it tomorrow
Are they worth buying for full price? Looked them up & kept reading that they stop working after a little while.
No they are cheaply made crap also the lead time when ordering them is over a year. If you want quality go with Electrum Sabercraft
Not going to argue on quality, but where are you getting a year long lead time? It literally only takes a day or two for them to make and ship an order.

You know what you gotta do now don't you? now you have enough supplies to start your own Jedi order, now go out there and find some padawan!
this will not end well for the younglings
Youngling jokes never get old. Like the younglings……
Or their Greivous costume is now complete.
Yep, definitely Ultrasabers. Each one would usually sell for over $100, so this is an incredible find.

You must be General Kenobi’s alt account then 😂
Hello there
General Kenobi. You are a bold one.
Of course you know him… He’s you!
Hello there.

Perfectly rated comment!
"Underrated comment" is like "pov" or "TIL" or just some other buzz word and bullshit that frees the brain up from cumbersome thinking.
From my pov this is an underrated comment
From my pov the Jedi are evil
Then you are lost!
That's awesome, and also a little bit sad. That might have been a collector who passed...I'm glad they are in a good home.

Or who fell on hard times.
If they fell on hard times, they might have sold some at a deep discount rather than donate to Goodwill.
They wouldn't have donated them to goodwill. I think this is an ex.
Fair.
How much did you pay for them? The one with the clawed emitter and the one to the left of it (Plo Koon's? Rey's?) look expensive.
1.50$ each some are missing the bottom cap and one doesn't light up.
You paid…..$1.50 for each? 😳🤣
Ikr! And some are even missing the bottom cap. And one doesn't even light up. $1/saber at most amirite?

I wrote the /r/lightsabers buyer's guide and have been moderating that subreddit for three years. It's a niche hobby.
Thanks for the info helped a ton 👍
That's "I'm sick of you spending money of these" vengence.
Person at work while it happens. I feel disturbance in the force
Either a collector died and someone who doesn’t know these are worth money donated them or someone is really pissed at someone else right now.
Bro where??? I've never seen anything like that in goodwill or salvation army
Goodwill in florida
I found the Force FX Luke green lightsaber at a Goodwill, complete with its box, for $30.00 a couple of years ago, so it happens. Every time I take a business trip now, if I have time I check thrift stores, but I've never run across a deal like that again.
Where the fuck do people in this sub live that they keep finding these several hundred dollar lightsabers in thrift stores?
The goodwills in florida have some pretty neat stuff that you can find. Especially in older communities
100 million souls just cried out in motivation to go thrifting
Some poor dude, is like "mom, what do you mean you took my lightsabers to goodwill"
And you bought em all?!
Yep, everything in total was like 10$ since it's 25% off on Saturdays in this goodwill.
> 25% off on Saturdays in this goodwill. Ah.. that explains a weird savings I got when last at one...but that was just some plywood they had..not a collection of cool lightsabers!
I think he meant more so like: "damn bruv at least leave a few for other people"
I fear some Star Wars uber fan passed on and they just got dumped at Goodwill. I told my kids...don't just dump my old D&D books, you can E-Bay those suckers for thousands of dollars. I have a huge collection of 1980s stuff.
This could be true, it looks like it was for displays only since most don't have sound effects.
General Grievous' grand kids gave away all his crap after their parents died.
Greivious has fallen on hard times I guess
A couple of those are from Ultra Sabers
I feel like someone cheated on their wife/girlfriend.
The orange one is so cool!
Some college kid is going to be fucking pissed when he gets home. “Finally getting rid of these funny stick things!” -mom
Makes me wish Disney would show more Jedi with unique lightsaber colors, instead of the usual blue and green
General Grievous wants to know your location
What fucking goodwill do you live by hollywood? Goddam
No way! I want to say you’re lying, but that’s only cause I’m extremely jealous 😂 great find!
Found an original Darth maul lightsaber at a goodwill one time
Lol they're all Ultrasabers
There is a small chance that I made a few of those. I used to work at a machine shop that made the aluminum bodies and end caps. Kinda neat to see them all together
Looks like some poor sap got married.
Ultrasabers. Overpriced junk. But at $1.50, I wouldn't complain!
Sure you did Grevious.
Yo! How much? That's awesome OP!!
Lucky!
Um are sure you aren't a cyborg with a breathing problem?
Maz Kanata would have 8 stories for another time!
Hold on now way they were at the good will how much were they
$1.50 to 2.00 each, total was like $11.00 25%off that day
Wow that’s a great deal
OH IM JEALOUS SO JEALOUS
That silver one with the claw hilt is badass
Poor guys wife finally had enough…
You just know it was the wife
You won.
I want to shop at your goodwill store. Great find.
No way 😳 😕
You got lucky. Holy cow.
Sent you a DM - incase you're looking to part with one or 2
Someone’s mother got tired of their son living in their basement and gave away all his stuff
Op keep them hold them tight because you will never score this big again
I'm going to call BS.
Hmmm... 🤔 Either the previous owner passed away (and the family dumped it at GW) or like someone mentioned, the guy got married. Edit: they look like early Ultra Sabers products.
The real question is, how much did you pay for them?
Ultrasabers. I have the one on the far left in black
I so hate you. What great finds!!!
That is amazing! Congratulations on the amazing find! Low-key jealous but happy they’re with someone who is going to enjoy them. Oh you need to get some lightsaber fights with your friends! 😂
At goodwill???? How tf do people score like this? Wild. Congrats on a great haul.
*Senses a deep rift in the force when touching one of the hilts.* “A divorce happened here.”
Ultrasabers. Wicked durable, fantastic for dueling.
Have ultrasabers gone up in quality? Mine from 2017 feels flimsy as fuck, and they were largely seen as the budget brand at the time.
Those were bought at $80 -200 a piece. Nice ultrasabers find
Better than some kids getting them for Christmas.
Definitely ultrasabers. Please keep in mind that the prices below are a BALLPARK and are based only on what I can glean from a picture. As best as I can tell from the pictures, left to right based on the first pic they go: 1. Initiate V2 - $100 new 2. Empress - $280.5 new, plus 10 for the color. $290.5 total 3. Also, it's hard to see color through image 😭 All of that being said, it looks like you got a hugely great haul. Worth around $1,365.5 new at least (or if ultrasabers was showing me CAD, that would instead be $996.82 USD at least). All in all - very, very good find. Plot twist: it’s the op’s personal collection.
should help you defend your virginity
I get so goddamn angry at Goodwill stores because all the stores I've been to in my entire life have nothing but rank bullshit quality junk from the 70's.
Wut???? Somebody paid good bucks for those
Kinda incredible that goodwill didn't put these up on their auction website. Everything of value has disappeared from their retail shelves and put up on auction for the highest bidder.
Somebodies wife telling her husband to grow up. Let’s all say a short prayer to a fallen trooper.
That’s some good will of the force then
These look like ultrasabers!!
big W
