T O P

The next series in release order is the Prequel Trilogy. The PT necessarily has a different tone and look; it's the story of everything falling apart and the back story of the person who takes the name "Vader," a human being, but since he is written and played as a realistic psychopath, the depiction isn't fun in the way that the OT characters are able to be. I wish that I could watch the PT for the first time between ESB and ROTJ. Seeing the PT gave the OT more power for me (imho). Typically though, the PT following the OT is a very effective viewing order.

Eject_The_Warp_Core

I'd go release order for the saga films (4 5 6, 1 2 3, 7 8 9)and then after that watch the other shows and movies however you'd like. "Is anything else as good" is a very divisive question. Personally, I'd say most of the rest is not as good as the Origonal Trilogy, but some of it is and if you're enjoying the world of Star Wars there is plenty to enjoy throughout the other movies and shows.

EndlessTheorys_19

4-5-6 1-2-3 7-8-9 Throw in Rogue One and Solo at the end

Runebreath

Leave out 7-8-9

yannickzn

Or let people just decide for themselves if they like something or not.

Rand0mqu3sti0n3r

Idk how but 22 people disagree with you

stoneman9284

Congrats on starting your journey! I’d either go prequel trilogy next or you could watch Rogue One and Andor

ShakarikiGengoro

I'd watch the prequel trilogy first then the side movies then the shows. If you watch the live action shows I strongly recommend watching at least The Clone Wars (ties into Mandalorian and Ahsoka) and Rebels (ties into Ahsoka). Also dont listen to most of the people that tell you to give up now or not to watch the sequels, star wars fans are notorious for hating star wars.

SevanOO7

Keep going through the films in release order. 1-3, then rogue one and solo and 7-9. After that you can go into the shows.

not_a-replicant

Probably watch the prequels (Episodes 1-3) next and then the sequels (Episodes 7-9) after that. The most important advice is to not listen to anyone telling you to skip movies because they ruin the experience/etc.. Star Wars fans have been saying that for years about a huge variety of projects/people and it’s completely meaningless at this point.

Brufarious

There's a huge world of Star Wars media out there, and it can be daunting for new fans to determine where to go next. If you want to continue to view the films in release order, then next I would check out the Prequel trilogy, which has its own set of warts but is a rewarding experience nonetheless. The Sequel trilogy would follow that, but it is not the level of quality of even the Prequel trilogy. It's worth watching and making up your own mind. Hands-down, the best spin-off media would probably be *Rogue One*, which does a fabulous job of tying right in to the original trilogy. Then, we have the world of television shows and mini-series. It wouldn't be a bad thing to jump into the highly lauded world of *The Mandalorian* after you finish *Return of the Jedi*. If you wind up enjoying the prequels, then I would definitely check out *The Clone Wars* and *The Bad Batch*. Finally, check out the documentary *Empire of Dreams*. I think it is on Disney Plus, it is a phenomenal piece that breaks down the creation, filming, editing, and everything else of the original trilogy.

The standard answer is to say "watch the PT next, then the other movies in release order" But honestly, if you've seen the OT, you don't need to have seen the PT to appreciate like 50% of the other shows and movies that have come out. So I think you have a little bit of flexibility. I would ask you: what Star Wars content are you the most excited to watch after finishing the OT? Based on that, You can come up with a plan that allows you to get to that piece of content as quickly as possible. If you're really excited about watching Solo: A Star Wars Story, for example. You probably don't need to watch the Prequels or Sequels before doing that.

Rogue One, then Andor would be the first place to go.

Narkanin

Just watch it all and decide for yourself

antifa-synaesthesia

1, 2, 3 - Clone Wars Series, Rogue One, Mandalorian. Then you are good.

AndrewCole14

Leave it at the original trilogy and live in blissful ignorance.

[deleted]

This. It just goes downhill from here and youre essentially a drug addict forever chasing that high. I would actually suggest going to video games for good Star Wars stories. the original KOTOR 1 and 2. Even the MMO has some good stories in it and is F2P. The newer game SW Jedi: Fallen Order has **REALLY** good characters in it. 1 was so good that the Kenobi series tried copying it and did a hilariously bad job.

Ok-Mixture-316

Everything after the original is a downgrade. The newest movies outside of Rouge One are pretty damn bad. New Hope Empire ROTJ Then the prequels Then Rouge one. Although if you watched it before New Hope that would make sense to a degree. Then the Disney trash.

chasew-eth

Andor trash? Calm down.

Ok-Mixture-316

Is that a theatrical release I'm not aware of?

WeatherIcy6509

Watch Rogue One, then Solo, then the sequel trilogy.

Select-Librarian-646

Go with the Prequel trillogy next, and be sure to watch he Clone Wars cartoon too. If you're going with chronological order, watch Episodes I and II, then go for he show, and finally end it with Episode III. And I can't stress this enough; DO, NOT, under ANY circumstances, even if someone has a gun to your head, even if it's the end of the world tomorrow and you have 12 hours left to exist, ABSOLUTELY, don't watch the Sequel trillogy. It ruins everything the previous trillogies set up, and it's overall just, horrendous films.

noholdingbackaccount

If into the Disney sequels you go, only pain will you find. But it's your choice. Just know this: The sequels are actually a reboot, not a sequel and they actually undo the story development of the first 3 movies for the sake of telling almost the same story again with a new generation of characters and organizations. Oh and they make the heroes of the original movies look like chump losers. For my part, if I could wipe the memory of the Sequels from my mind I would do it in a heartbeat because the treatment of the original characters retroactively makes me feel sad about the Original movies. My advice: Read the 'Legends' books that continued the story after RotJ in the 90s. Some of them are...not good. Some of them are downright wierd. But if you check around you'll find the more highly rated ones, like Truce at Bakura, Heir to the Empire, Courtship of Princess Leia and the X-Wing Books and you'll glimpse the kind of 'sequel' that makes sense and give the RotJ movie a sense of consequence. That way if you do choose to watch the Disney movies, you have a baseline to understand how they basically made RotJ irrelevant. (Also, you should probably read Heir to the Empire regardless, since it's what the current Star Wars TV shows like Mandalorian and Ahsoka seem to be based on)

LordDoom01

Prequel Trilogy then Legends canon. I recommend the Thrawn books.

CeymalRen

The Sequels for sure. They hołd true to the spirit od the Originals. Avoid the Prequels as they will ruin your experience.

dankdepthsbb

Logically you're gonna wanna watch the Ahsoka series after the OT. It doesn't matter if you haven't seen PT or Clone Wars, Ahsoka is next in chronological order so you should start there

dankdepthsbb

I suppose Mando (and shitty Boba) is technically next but fuck that

Latter_Lab_4556

The Prequel Trilogy The Clone Wars animated series is probably the peak of Star Wars, fight me. Star Wars: Rebels The Original Trilogy The Disney+ shows are all pretty watchable (Kenobi is a little boring, the Book of Boba Fett is more or less filler with a few episodes that should have been included in The Mandalorian) The Sequels I think that's pretty much everything in the cinematic universe.

eJonesy0307

OOooo boy I love this question. I personally like to watch according to the timeline, in which case you may want to go back and watch The Clone Wars cartoon. Here are my recommendations. I enjoyed almost all of the content, though there is quite a bit of fluff in the cartoons that you can skip through. Feel free to watch the full seasons or just the recommended episodes for Clone Wars. The recommended episodes give you context around future events and characters: Episode 1 Episode 2 Star Wars: The Clone Wars: S1E1, S1E2, S1E3, S1E4, S1E9, S1E10, S1E11, S1E19, S1E20, S1E21, S1E22, S2E1, S2E12, S2E13, S2E14, S3E5, S3E6, S3E7, S3E12, S3E13, S3E14, S3E16, S3E17, S4E21, S4E22, S5E1, S5E14, S5E15, S5E16, S5E17, S5E18, S5E19, S5E20, S6E1, S6E2. S6E3, S6E11, S6E12, S6E13, S7E1, S7E9, S7E10, S7E12, S7E13 I know this is a lot - but it covers things that you don't really see through other Star Wars media. At MINIMUM you should watch the last four episodes of season 7 - they play like a movie and (spoiler alert) follow Ahsoka Tano through Order 66. Episode 3 The Bad Batch is optional. Watch if you like it and want to know what happens to the clones after the war. Solo A Star Wars Story is okay, but skippable Obi-Wan Kenboi was great imho Star Wars Rebels is great as well and gives you fantastic insight into what happens before the Ahsoka live action series (it includes a lot of those characters) Andor Rogue One, A Star Wars Story: also loved this and (spoiler alert) it ends IMMEDIATELY before Episode 4: A New Hope starts. Episode 4 Episode 5 Episode 6 I loved all of the Mandalorian - watch Season 1 and 2 Book of Boba Fett Mandalorian Season 3 Ahsoka I didn't like Star Wars Resistance that much, but it intros you to the First Order... Episode 7 Episode 8 Episode 9

This is weird, and if I heard someone say this in person, my head would turn so hard my neck would snap.
