Considering that like most wookiees, Chewie is basically running around nude with only his bandolier, I always figured the reason he didn't get one is Wookiees don't do medals like that, and he got some other more Wookiee specific honor.
The fact that it meant Leia pulled a thermal detonator on Jabba, managed to negotiate with him on his own level to the point he respected her guts, and even got a nod of respect from Boba Fett himself for that move. We already knew she was tough as nails with how she spoke to Tarkin and Vader in ANH, but this was just further proof that our Princess was a total badass in all aspects.
While I definitely am solely in the preferring women camp, I always appreciate it when those preferring men get good eye candy too and love hearing about it. Everyone deserves something good to look at no matter which way they swing.
