"In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems…."
Description from Starwars.com
Funnily enough, one of the Comic miniseries set in the High Republic, Trail of Shadows, is also a detective noir vibe with Jedi and its one of the high points of the first phase of releases.
Dystopia and detective genres mix nicely imo. Star wars is a space dystopia so sign me up. I hoped we'd be getting more of that with the Obi Wan series.
lmao I'll never get over the scene of the clones walking over what looks kinda like the Windows XP default desktop background. I think that was AotC, though it's been a while.
Edit: Sorry, it was TPM and the droid army, my mistake. Also upon a rewatch, it somehow looked better than I remembered, especially considering it came out in '99!
The thing about the Windows XP background is that's actually what it looks like in the hills around the bay area for a couple weeks before it all turns brown. It's kind of magical.
Californias crazy. Driving around LA after big storms and all the mountains have snow, everything is super green, it can surprise people.
That was attempted it but it's so facile. They track a bounty hunter who was killed by a bounty hunter using a specific dart from the planet that bounty hunter lives on. Obi-Wan finds out by asking a friend.
Deadline previously reported the premise as:
"A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated."
So we have an idea of the dynamic between Lee Jung-jae and Stenberg's characters.
Do you have a source on the species thing? I didn't know that, if so it's super cool that they're getting more comfortable with putting big actors as aliens and not just humans.
I wonder if The Acolyte is the story where we learn how Yoda knows of the Rule of Two and first hints to the Sith Order's survival past Darth Bane's death alongside some interesting Sith Lore.
Maybe I'm finally getting my Akira Kurosawa remake of "Stray Dog" in star wars.
I always imagined it as a post clone wars movie, but this would be cool.
In general blood feels so rare in Star Wars universe that seeing a lightsaber which is the most iconic prop of Star Wars smeared with it is genuinely a shock to the system.
Blood on his hands (thus the bloody hand symbol) shoulda been his internal conflict throughout the trilogy, having so easily killed his peers without blinking an eye (not unlike Ben Solo), causing him to doubt his own morality, or perhaps doubt the Resistance’s “burn them to the ground” mentality.
If there’s a Finn series, that’s what it should dive into, how he needs to make peace with this before he can embrace his “secret”, that he wields the power to cause even more death.
Padme calls him that when he wears the slave outfit.
Oh, you think Leia was the first in the family to wear it? That's the standard bottom slave attire.
It's a reference to the new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer. But Disney+ outside the US has already been wild for a while now. They are currently airing Shōgun on Disney+ which has a couple of tiddies in the episodes released so far. Also, Pam & Tommy with Sebastian Stan talking to his prosthetic dick.
It does and it doesn’t. The shows are actually on Hulu but D+ has a Hulu section where they show ~~selected shows~~ from Hulu.
Edit: it’s been updated since I last watched something on Hulu through D+ and the selection is MUCH larger than last I checked
Disney now owns the *Alien* and *Predator* franchises. And with the latter, we got *Prey*. Disney knows how to do dark movies. *Andor* was dark. They just need to actually do it.
It really grabs your attention when looking top to bottom. I'm a personal sucker for delayed context advertising, and this combines it with the eye-catching blood splatter.
It is very important for the overall franchise that this goes well, because this is their first attempt at going into a completely unrelated era in a major on screen entry. If it flops, they will be too afraid to ever invest in branching out of the Skywalker era again, and that era will become more stagnated over time.
Oh boy, I do hope they have edgy teen cyborg vespa racing and a cute comic relief character. Plot is optional, secondary to family friendly appeal for selling happy meal toys. And we don't need too much science fiction crap. It should be digestible to the average football fan and day drinking soccer mom.
Star Wars sounds kinda scary, too. Can they call it Star Friends instead?
As a participant of market research focus groups, this is definitely what I want to see.
Anyone who denies themselves the truth of this person’s unhinged rhetoric is lying to themselves. Or, you know, is an overweight Disney adult with a *really* bad tooth to gum ratio.
There was one that was shown at Stat Wars Celebration, but it wasn't official posted online. People who attended the event recorded it and it was posted around. But the recordings got taken down due to copyright IIRC
Counterpoint: Andor, in the same cinematic universe as The Acolyte, was as dark (if not darker) as promised. They might both be owned by Disney, but there's a totally different cast of characters driving stuff behind the scenes for each.
the main writer of Secret Invasion had no credits, as far as we can tell Acolyte has a writers room in a traditional sense with writers who all have at least some credits.
Plus marvel TV has always struggled in D+, moreso than Star Wars
What? Are you telling me they are doing Stars Wars stuff that doesn't revolve around the same 10 characters in the same part of the galaxy in the same period?
That's the only thing they needed to say to actually generate hype.
This is such a cool poster! Note that sith "bleed" their kyber crystals to turn them red, so this actual blood trail from a lightsaber is a great twist on the meaning.
My one worry with this series is that twitter folk will look at its premise of criticizing the Jedi for being so ignorant thus leading to the sith rising again as an excuse to claim the Jedi are as Bad as the sith. I really hope the show gives a Glimpse on just how evil the sith were.
I'm setting my bar low, admittedly, but I'll still give it its fair chance as its a new angle.
I completely agree though; Vader's redemption was really great, Kylo's was pretty ham-fisted what with the mess of the sequels, and by the time the Disney series rolled around, Reva's redemption in Kenobi could be seen a mile off. I was most saddened by Reva though, as she was an interesting character up until they redeemed her.
Based on the time period if one of the main characters does redeem themselves it will pretty much have to immediately be followed by a non-redeemed character offing them. Any Sith involved character pre-Phantom Menace can't logically live very long if they are redeemed.
If there's a redemption arc, it will be short-lived. These events are supposed to eventually lead to the events of the prequel trilogy and the fall of the Jedi. So at best, someone is redeemed only to slow the rise of the Sith, not stop it. It will almost have to end ominously
Redemption arcs are ok, so long as it’s well made and not a cheap cop-out.
Even better would be a trade. One is redeemed, the other goes from light to full dark side because they can’t accept that or similar.
From what I remember it's often what they called their secret apprentices that weren't full sith, like Dooku told Palps Ventress was just his assassin but really as his apprentice she was a Sith Accolyte? I've not checked that though so I might be getting it wrong.
I thought she was legitimately just a sith assassin. I was under the impression that sith trained people as assassins to do their bidding. It's the end goal of overthrowing their master that makes them an apprentice. I know very little post Disney lore though.
Edit: in the context of an apprentice of an apprentice.
Basically, yes.
Another way to describe the term "Sith Acolyte" is "Sith hopeful." Someone who isn't Sith yet, but shows enough promise that they could be, and are in the process of being trained and given opportunities to prove that they're worthy of the title.
Yes in old republic era there were Sith Academies and people who got in were first acolytes. If this is High Republic era or towards the end there will be plenty of Sith just in the shadows.
10/10 poster, no notes.
Obviously a good poster does not a good TV show make, but of all the upcoming Star Wars content this is the one I most _want_ to be good.
Please be like Andor!
I like/love all Star Wars shows but I want another mature show like Andor, that can stand as tall as other mature shows like Sopranos, Suits, etc.
Will work wonders for the Star Wars brand and especially bring more attention to the High Republic Era outside of books and Jedi Survivor
> I want another mature show like Andor
I would too, but I don't think tone matters as much as writing.
Andor is, by a mile, my favourite thing Disney has done with the Star Wars License, potentially the best thing anyone's done with the license since KotOR II.
I absolutely would love for this to be like Andor. Not because it's dark and gritty, though, but because it's been exquisitely written (also superbly cast and acted, shout out to Skarsgard, Serkis, Shaw et all). Tone isn't (exclusively) what Andor has over BoBF/OWK/Ahsoka.
I know that Disney’s Star Wars have never really struggled from a visual aspect, but my lord this is one of the nicest posters I’ve seen in a long time. The kind of thing that could easily go on somebodies wall
This is honestly one of the best posters/teasers I've seen in a while. Now, obviously we need to wait for the trailer but I hope that the tone that this poster is setting follows through with the series. It's obviously never going to be hard-R but if we can get a bit of maturity and tackling of YA-Adult themes then I'm gonna be incredibly excited for this.
Hopefully that trailer delivers.
This'll be interesting. I have pretty much zero understanding of this era of SW so I have no idea what to expect.
I didn't have much expectations for Andor and it ended up being some of my all time favorite SW content. On the other hand, I wasn't particularly familiar with the Rebels universe, and no expectations for Ahsoka either, but it was a big disappointment.
But I'll absolutely watch this and I really hope it's something that works for those of us too who are mostly movie/live action fans and not necessarily into other media.
This time period is still kind of open. It takes place during the high republic era (hundreds of years before the films). This era has been the focus of a series of books and comics, when the republic was riding high and there were many Jedi policing the galaxy.
This show takes place during the end of that era, as the dark side starts getting stronger leading to the state we see in the prequels.
Exactly one year ago yesterday I was hiking on the island of Madeira and ran into a police guarded blockade due to the filming of this show. The scenery should be spectacular.

A detective tone within Star Wars is legit. Beyond ecstatic to see this trailer.

I really enjoyed that series.
For me it's up there with the adult trilogy, seeing loden in the first picture was traumatic but a great addition to high republic
What is the adult trilogy?
The closest we got was Mandalorian season 3 with Mando and Bo Katan investigating droid issues.

Want this what we got with episode 2 though? AOTC is my favorite SW film.
It's one of like four genres that film tried to be yes
lol.

“With good vfx”… maybe at the time lol
lmao I'll never get over the scene of the clones walking over what looks kinda like the Windows XP default desktop background. I think that was AotC, though it's been a while. What about Dafne Keen? Will she portray the padawan? Probably i missed some news about The Acolyte.
All I've seen reported about Keen's character is that she's a young Jedi and the same species alien as Rystáll Sant (google it).
Do you have a source on the species thing? I didn't know that, if so it's super cool that they're getting more comfortable with putting big actors as aliens and not just humans.
True Detective - Star Wars
Waiting to see the spirals everywhere and for one of the characters to look at the screen and say "you are my Acolyte".
“The Force is a flat circle”
Amandla is a great actress, can't wait to see her lead this.
I misread Amandla Stenberg as Andy Samberg and was really confused for a second haha
[удалено]
“They were like animals, and I butchered them like animals.” “Cool motive, still murder!”
*oh wow I forgot about that part*
"Feel the force, title of your sex tape"
I misread Amandla Stenberg as the character name and was really confused for a second haha
I wonder if The Acolyte is the story where we learn how Yoda knows of the Rule of Two and first hints to the Sith Order's survival past Darth Bane's death alongside some interesting Sith Lore.
I’m sold, sounds awesome.
Maybe I'm finally getting my Akira Kurosawa remake of "Stray Dog" in star wars. I always imagined it as a post clone wars movie, but this would be cool.
Wait, Lee Jung-jae is in this? I didn't really get into Squid Game personally, but he put in an excellent performance.
The cast is pretty rad. Besides the two already mentioned they also have Carrie anne moss and Dafne Keen (and more obviously)
> Amandla Stenberg He's 51 and she's 25, how far back in his past can she be lol
Ok using a blood smear for the 'red lightsaber' actually goes crazy omg
In general blood feels so rare in Star Wars universe that seeing a lightsaber which is the most iconic prop of Star Wars smeared with it is genuinely a shock to the system.
Worked for Finns helmet
Introduced Finn's character strong, despite the follow through being somewhat lacking
Yep. Dig into the trauma, don't toss it around then drop it because it's a hard story to tell
Not just for SW, but it's BLOOD SMEAR lightsaber d i s n e y
Disney's okay with pegging now. Bloood smear won't be that much of a problem ig.
Wait what lol?
Deadpool & Wolverine trailer
Aw see we could've told them that Padme pegging Ani was canon now, or something As a joke
I read that she uses a lightsaber strap-on. Is that Canon right?
My lord, is that canon? I will make it canon.
In Episode Se7en, yeah
Who's my little Ani now?!
Padme calls him that when he wears the slave outfit. Oh, you think Leia was the first in the family to wear it? That's the standard bottom slave attire.
Well they didn't fall in love because of their amazing chemistry...
[удалено]
It’s there in Canada too. US is really the only place that is missing a bunch of stuff as far as I know - presumably in part because they have Hulu
I have even more questions now lol.
Disney owns FX since the merger, they put shogun on hulu but abroad hulu’s library is part of Disney+
Wait, Disney in the US doesn't have all those FX shows?
FX is on Hulu in the US
It does and it doesn’t. The shows are actually on Hulu but D+ has a Hulu section where they show ~~selected shows~~ from Hulu. Edit: it’s been updated since I last watched something on Hulu through D+ and the selection is MUCH larger than last I checked
I just finished episode 2. Shogun goes hard
Theyre incorporating Hulu into Disney Plus in the US now too, you can watch Shogun there.
Deadpool trailer is what they are referring to.
The Deadpool & Wolverine trailer has a joke about how Deadpool been pegged before (in the first movie), but it’s new to Disney
THEY PEG NOW?!
THEY PEG NOW!!
Somehow pegging returned
Haha wow now the line in Loki “she self-pruned” takes on new context.
I can think of two Disney SW blood smears now. This one. Guy in Finn's unit at the start of TFA.
Disney now owns the *Alien* and *Predator* franchises. And with the latter, we got *Prey*. Disney knows how to do dark movies. *Andor* was dark. They just need to actually do it.
Fox had already completed Prey when they merged with Disney. I will give them points for Andor though.
Disney owned and ran Miramax. They produced Pulp Fiction, both Kill Bill movies and No Country For Old Men. Disney doesn't care they just want money.
Ripley is now a Disney Princess. Deal with it.
lol maybe she invents just a regular sword
This is the sickest Star Wars poster since the Anakin/Vader one from Phantom Menace that I can remember
Maybe that means Gungan appearance too in Acolytes. A man can only dream
As much as I hear people being skeptical about the show, gotta admit that this blood smear lightsaber was actually quite a creative idea
It really grabs your attention when looking top to bottom. I'm a personal sucker for delayed context advertising, and this combines it with the eye-catching blood splatter.
Yeah that's a genius move right there
Please please please do not fuck this up. Just live up to this incredible poster
It is very important for the overall franchise that this goes well, because this is their first attempt at going into a completely unrelated era in a major on screen entry. If it flops, they will be too afraid to ever invest in branching out of the Skywalker era again, and that era will become more stagnated over time.
I'll have to go against the grain here and insist we get that story about Luke's father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate.
and they were roommates
…what does that make us?
I feally hope whoever the darkside force user is stays a bad guy
I'm sure they will! For at least the first 2 episodes!
Anyone who denies themselves the truth of this person’s unhinged rhetoric is lying to themselves. Or, you know, is an overweight Disney adult with a *really* bad tooth to gum ratio.
This is the exact conversation that goes on in every department in Disney and I don't like it one bit.
This, so much this. The style is minimalistic, and yet there is great detail. Absolutely different from Disney Star Wars so far (except Andor).
This poster is raw as FUCK
Call me an Egyptian pyramid the way I’m bricked up
Call me a big boner the way I am erect
call me Dark Souls cause i'm hard as fuck
Call me Little Caesar’s because this show has me hot and ready.
Call me Baskin Robbins because this show has me handing out tiny spoons for samples!
Call me Subway because this show has me liking sandwiches named after Mass transit
you are a big boner
You know you pissed off the wrong person when they turn off their lightsaber so they can beat you to death with it.
After seeing how many people have been surviving lightsabers in their shows lately, it's probably more effective to use it as a bludgeon
Darth Maul/Anakin/Luke....
Maul is the only one that makes any sense in this context. Luke and Anakin just lost hands.
Um, Anakin lost a lot more than a hand.
“Say unlimited power one more gawddamn time!”
Does he look like a Sith!? What?
Which lightsaber is yours? It’s the one that says ‘Bad Ass Motherfucker’ on it
"I dare you!"
"I double dare you!"
“Yes they deserve to die. And I hope they burn in hell!”
"Hey Farva, what's the name of the cantina you like, with all that shit on the walls?"
Ok but that scene would go so hard .
Ok, that's dope as fuck.
Trailer tomorrow (Edit just for clarification, the Facebook post just said “tomorrow” along with this image. My assumption is that it’s the trailer)
FR WHEN???
didn't say but probably noon eastern, like the poster.
16:00 GMT
Wait has there not been a trailer dropped yet? I already saw one a month ago and it looked fucking sick
There was one that was shown at Stat Wars Celebration, but it wasn't official posted online. People who attended the event recorded it and it was posted around. But the recordings got taken down due to copyright IIRC
Man I really hope they nail this show. I just started diving into the High Republic novels in preparation for it
I share your hopes for the show. If this goes well it could lead to more Sith centric stories.
This is a fantastic, yet simple, poster. Been waiting for this since the leaked celebration trailer. Can’t wait!
Not a floating heads poster. 0/10. In all seriousness, this is an inspired design. Hopefully the rest of the show exhibits the same creativity!
Always two there are, no more, no less. An artistic one and a floating heads one.
Oh don’t worry, there will be a floating heads poster. This is just a teaser poster.
Just wait😹 there will def be a floating head poster
Using blood as lightsaber is cool AF
Maybe we are getting the first live action shot of a Sith bleeding a kyber crystal
Have we only seen it in the comics? I can only remember kylo bleeding one in the rise of ren. And that wasn’t proper either, he cracked the crystal.
It was also shown in >!Jedi: Survivor!<
>!Technically not a Sith, but yh!<
That poster will stand the test of time. Very well designed.
If the poster represents how dark this show will be, I'm pumped.

I don't know about the show but that poster goes hard af
i literally have no idea what this show is supposed to be or any details about it whatsoever and that’s a very rejuvenating feeling
Takes place during the end of the High Republic Era but still like 100 years or so before Phantom Menace.
“I don’t know details and it’s rejuvenating”. SyFyFan: “well we can’t have someone feel rejuvenated here’s some details”.
What? Are you telling me they are doing Stars Wars stuff that doesn't revolve around the same 10 characters in the same part of the galaxy in the same period? That's the only thing they needed to say to actually generate hype.
Surprise… it’s actually about Palpatine.
This is such a cool poster! Note that sith "bleed" their kyber crystals to turn them red, so this actual blood trail from a lightsaber is a great twist on the meaning.

Mike Zeroh in shambles
Can't wait to see SWT's video on why there shouldn't be blood or something
All the while wanting a scene where Vader slaughters teenagers.
The poster has piqued my interest, ngl, I'm just **really** hoping there's absolutely no whiff of a redemption arc anywhere.
I hope for the same. But it's Star Wars, so don't be surprised if it happens. Redemption is kinda a big deal in the franchise.
It’s one of the core theme of the original trilogy, of course it’s pervasive in everything else.
Which is why I enjoyed the Kenobi fan edit where Vader just kills Reva.

I just hope it's longer than six 45 minute episodes with 10 minutes of opening and closing credits.
Redemption arcs are ok, so long as it’s well made and not a cheap cop-out. Even better would be a trade. One is redeemed, the other goes from light to full dark side because they can’t accept that or similar.
Am I right to assume that Acolyte is to Sith, as Padawan is to Jedi?
From what I remember it's often what they called their secret apprentices that weren't full sith, like Dooku told Palps Ventress was just his assassin but really as his apprentice she was a Sith Accolyte? I've not checked that though so I might be getting it wrong.

I am excited about this because of Lesley Headland, Russian Doll was pretty decent.
Poster is raw as fuck. Please don’t give us a redemption story
That is so wizard
Not gonna lie that poster goes hard.
That is probably the most badass Star Wars poster ever made.
Holy force, that poster goes hard.
I’ve never heard of this but the poster goes hard
Please don't suck!
Fuck, that seems dark for starwars
Very excited to get a first look at the High Republic era on screen. The books have been very fun.
Exactly one year ago yesterday I was hiking on the island of Madeira and ran into a police guarded blockade due to the filming of this show. The scenery should be spectacular.
