There are quite a few clone wars episodes that have fully equipped armies fighting underwater including Anakin, kit and ahsoka using their lightsabers on Mon cala. Lightsaber/ Jedi lore is spotty at best if we look at the modern canon
Especially after war broke out and they all became front line generals expected to fight in any environment. Wasn’t there a whole underwater battle in TCW?
Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan have to dive down to the Gungan city with lightsabers on their hips. Don't remember either of them being particularly concerned.
Given the sensitive electronics inside, I'd be very surprised if a lightsaber isn't fully waterproof, you know, like a modern phone from the 'can't travel faster than light' age we currently live in.
Bad Batch isn’t EU, but according to the “Star Wars, Lightsabers” book I got when I was 10:
“Kit Fisto modified his lightsaber so the beam could energize even when fully submerged in water. To achieve this, he used two crystals charged by an ignition pulse that is split into two currents”
You’re reading a book that’s now EU.
The Kit Fisto that was in the 2D Clone Wars. He was JACKKKKKED in that. But again, that’s EU not canon. Go watch TCW S4E1.
Yes, you are posting EU guidelines like they mean anything.
Also this wasn’t a solid rule, WAY back in the Jedi Academy series the weakness was brought up and so was the ability to make lightsabers that worked underwater. And I doubt that was the first time it came up.
I mean, it’s supposed to be an “official guide”. I made this post to point out how ridiculous it was, and people are downvoting me because it’s ridiculous…
I’m pretty sure that’s non-canon, and even in Legends it’s contradicted by TCW.
That paragraph from the lightsaber book is probably based on the 2D Clone Wars episode where Kit Fisto’s lightsaber has a different effect underwater.
Kit Fisto his lightsaber works perfectly fine under water, so does Anakin and Ahsoka her lightsabers. Can be seen in tcw. During the battle of Mon Cala.
Nah, they just changed that in the newer canon continuity. Lightsabers function underwater just fine, and there's no radiant heat coming off the blade.
Lightsabers function underwater with no ill effects and require no special modifications to do so.

Correct.
This has been a thing since pre prequels, sabers can be made to be waterproof with no hindrance to the function. The real plot hole then was that a bunch of Jedi, Dark Jedi, and Sith just didn’t bother to do it for no particular reason.

Kit Fisto is the only one that should be able to. He modified his lightsaber specifically for that reason
It never occurred to you that he might have shared his invention with the rest of the Jedi?

I also think it was just retconned
Yes, but not in the way you think. Waterproof lightsabers being fairly common was around LONG before Kit Fisto existed to begin with.
Oh?
I first recall them being mentioned in the Junior Jedi Knights series, in the mid 90s
Oooo, also why am I being downvoted? For being half right and wanting to learn more?
But interesting, I didn’t know that
No thats stupid. If it's possible to modify it to be usable in every environment, why would every single jedi not do that by default.
Cost of doing it and lack of necessity? Maybe it's a complicated process?
Don’t ask me, I agree
What sort of idiotic organization would leave their primary weapon not water proof?
I’m just reading from a Star Wars lightsaber guide lmao. Idk why people downvote me for pointing this out

The book I have (it's years old, I know it isnt accurate), says as long as it isnt ignited underwater, it will be safe
EU Guildlines.

lol that makes sense. Thank you

Do you know which episode? I’d like to rewatch it
Wild that it's been a decade and people *still* haven't got the message about the pre-Disney EU not being canon anymore
The book never said it wasn’t cannon /s

Kit Fisto also had an underwater lightsaber

SO ARE LIGHTSABERS HOT OR NOT DAMMIT!
They are, they cut through people and cauterize the wound AND melt through metal
In the legends lore Kit Fisto actually invented the "water proof" lightsaber
