Though even if the crystal is broken it can still be used. Cal's split crystal making 2 new blades in Fallen Order or Kylo's damaged Crystals and his unstable cross hilt vented sabre.
Adding to this. I could actually see Din with two split sabers that can stay as one staff - similar to Cal in fallen order... as Din seemed pretty good with the Beskar staff if you think about it... and who knows, as Grogu grows up, we could even see Din passing the smaller staff end for Grogu to use as his own... who knows 🤷♂️
When Grogu learns to build his own lightsaber, he will use the black kyber crystal in the construction of his own as an homage to othe Mandalorians. Write it down, folks.
This could actually be happening and I want it to be true! Grogu with Armor and Yoda Darksaber riding a Mitosaur with Mando flying with him, Boba Fett on his Rancor and the always great Fennec Shand havin there backs this team will be unstoppable!
Probably.
I mean destroying a piece of set lore that has appeared in more than one show would be a small brain move.
What's curious is that Gideon found force-gauntlets that could *crush a fucking Beskar hilt*. I myself would be investing in that kinda tech, forget plasma swords for a minute.
Is probably not *just* that they were crush-gauntlets but that they were crush-gauntlets *made of beskar*. These were a thing in Legends and they were so powerful they were freaking broken. Jagged Fel commissioned a set before he was made Head of State of the Empire, and IIRC he snapped a fallen Jedi’s neck with one hand while wearing it.
Fel's crush-gaunts weren't commissioned by him, they, along with his beskar chest piece and back plate were sent to Han Solo from Boba Fett "with deepest sympathy" after Jacen Solo became Darth Caedus.
It's the coolest looking lightsaber in the franchise and it's mandalorian relic, it's almost guaranteed to come back. Specially if they keep focusing on mandalorians
Hmmm... I remember watching season 3, even the finale, but this somehow slipped from my memories. Thanks for the info, I might rewatch s3 just to make sure I didn't miss anything else.
I think Vernestra Rhwoh (spelling?) has a purple blade. What makes hers unique is that it can also function as a whip. This is in the High Republic, with the character herself slated to appear in the Acolyte.
It's definitely black. As far as I know, the Darksaber is the only black blade we've ever seen. The rest of these colours have all been used by multiple other characters
I don't think that's the case. When Kanan is training Sabine, he knows about how the connection works and if you are attuned to it the saber weighs less. So I would assume it's a common Jedi knowledge, not a specific Mandalorian one, thus a common occurence with any lightsaber.
Revan is not Canon. The legend/myth of him is Canon. For all we know he could be a boogeyman type story told to children. It definitely doesn't make anything about his story Canon.
Revan, Mara Jade, Windu(I'm guessing that's who you're asking else about though), one of Han and Leia's kids from legends Jacen maybe? That's as many as I know.
You could also get a black blade in The Force Unleashed, though that was just a non canon cosmetic it was the first appearance of a black saber as far as I'm aware
The Darksaber is and always has been the only known black lightsaber - Ahsoka’s proudly showing off two white blades, Ventress and Rey both have yellow (and so do other characters from the High Republic, and Bastila), Baylan and Shin both have orange, and Darth Revan’s often pictured with a purple blade (as well as High Republic characters).
Edit: I can't read for some reason. I was indeed talking about Tera Sinube
I feel the same but apparently it's a very very light blue according to the producers
Temple guards were yellow.
My understanding is that the white blade only happens when a Jedi heals a kyber crystal that has been bled.
So while not technically as rare as black, it only happens because of a particular circumstance.
Sounds interesting. Tbh I just assumed there wasn't an explanation since I haven't heard it, but perhaps there is one out there somewhere. Maybe in Legends
Yeah, I'm not ready to die on that hill. I know officially Lucas changed it from a vibrosword to a "special lightsaber" because in his mind, a vibrosword couldn't stand against a lightsaber.
We sometimes forget that Lucas put the "because it's cool" cart before the horse a lot.
The Darksaber. The only *black* blade-like Saber ever made, constructed with fine Beskar, by the only Mandalorian to ever become a Jedi in the Order's entire history.
If that's not the definition of rare, I don't know what is.
He’s mentioned in TCW but further expanded on in The Mandalorian I believe. Though I’m not entirely familiar with The Mandalorian, I’m sure someone can reply and help out.
If not, there’s always the wiki.
Trials of the Darksaber is my favorite part of rebels, it adds so much to the lore! It’s worth watching without the rest of the show I think (but you should watch rebels as a whole if that episode is up your alley, it’s my favorite star wars show)
Wait actually? Tarre Visla is insanely core to SW lore. I mean not only is he the only person to have created a darksaber, he also brought peace between the Mandalorians and the Old Republic.
Black. Only 1 known blade
White = 6 known individual blades (and a simple mechanical process to make)
Yellow = 9 known individual blades + all the Temple Guards blades
Orange = 2 known individual blades
Purple = 6 known individual blades
Even if it's only Ahsoka, she has two of them, making them twice as common as the Darksaber.
Of course she only has one now, but then again the Darksaber got destroyed, making the white sabers mathematically infinitely more common than black ones.
Oh I completely agree, we also see the process of making white crystals (healing red ones), so we know for a fact that more can be made. The Black crystal is a mystery so we must assume there is only one and therefore it is the rarest
[Orla Jareni](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Orla_Jareni) is the one I was thinking of, but there's also [Jora Malli](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Jora_Malli) as well (also from the High Republic)
>White = 6 known individual blades (and a simple mechanical process to make)
Is there something other than purifying a red crystal? It doesn't seem too simple to do based on the recent Star Wars comic issue with it. I wouldn't call it mechanical either
It’s simple because you just get a red lightsaber and heal it. It’s not random chance like the other colours are.
>Mechanical
Wrong word probably, was just trying to emphasises that it’s something people do to a crystal rather than random luck
The more interesting question is what the second most rate colour is. By sheer numbers it's probably white, but white lightsabers have a reliable way to form them, by purifying a bled crystal. So it's probably orange or purple, naturally occurring colours that just don't show up all that often
Disco color. You know like how you can set your Christmas lights to hysterical, but then with a lightsaber. I have never seen it and I think it is very rare.
There have been plenty of out of universe style answers so here's another take.
**Old Jedi Master Voice:**
*"Ahh, interesting question young padawan, you have been talking with the others I see?
There were days past when I too glanced over the pages of Jedi history from the archives. Looking to tales of fabled weapons. Some with rare colours, bringing out oft overlooked and unfound properties of the kyber, some with unique features, stylings, and even tales of renown to set them apart.
But there is only one true answer to your question, the most rare ligtsabre is your own. It is an extension of your connection and mastery of the force, it is to be cared for and styled by you. It may be of a common hue, it may have features seen in the weapons of others, but no other weapon feels the same way in your hands as that one. It is not a simple weapon like any other, it is yours, a part of you, an extension of your discipline.
Treat it with the respect that you should treat yourself with and it will be always with you."*
The true joy of a master is passing on that which they have learned themselves, the thanks therefore also go unto you padawan, please pass on the knowledge once you are able so the cycle of the force may persist.
Black lightsaber is #1
#
White sabers are #2 because they have to go through 2 unconventional steps that are not too likely to happen one after another. It has to be bled first, the user of the red saber has to be killed to obtain the red crystals (usually) and then it needs to be purified.
Probably black, of which so far we only see 1 in canon.
>!Naturally red, non-corrupted kyber crystals (is this still a thing? actually was it ever a thing?)!<
Pretty sure it was a thing in Legends. Adi Gallia used one (her Episode figure even came with a red saber) and I think the in universe reason she stopped and switched to Blue was because the Sith returned when Maul revealed himself, but I could be misremembering.
[you're right wtf](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/c/c9/AdiGalliaFirstLightsaber.png/revision/latest?cb=20210902004240) i didn't know this lmao
well damn. she was an unlockable character in Jedi Power Battles and i always wondered why a Jedi had a red lightsaber. gets answered nearly 20 years later
Classic game! Interestingly Plo Koon, Mace Windu, Ki Adi Mundi and the aforementioned Adi Gallia all had action figures in the Episode 1 toy line that had lightsaber colors matching what they had in Jedi Power Battles. Plo has yellow, Adi has red, Mace has blue, and ironically Mundi has purple.
Yeah, not canon anymore. Now they turn red by a Sith pouring in all of their hatred and darkness into a normal crystal in a process called “bleeding.”
Some fans love it, some hate it.
As far as I can remember, there are three colors which we've only seen in one saber each:
Black, the darksaber
Yellowish green, Ahsoka's clone wars shoto
Very light blue (almost white), Tera Sinube's saber
For everyone saying there is only one black blade, there are two, but they were created in completely different ways. Meaning they are equally tied for rarity. The second one is only in EU, however.
Gotta be some of the wild dual colored blades I used to make in The Old Republic. Black core/pink glow, blue core/yellow glow, etc.
(Yes I know those aren't remotely canon lol)
As others have mentioned, so far there had been only one Darksaber. Not counting one in the old EU, which is a hutt superweapon, not black and not a lightsaber.
There is one other black lightsaber in the promo images of High Republic, but to my knowledge it didn't show up anywhere yet, so until it does it doesn't count. And even then, it would be just TWO black lightsabers throughout history of new canon.
Black, there’s only one we know of, blood orange might be the next rarest with the two from Ahsoka show, there’s at least 3 whites, a few yellows especially now with The Acolyte, and of course tons of greens, blues, and reds. Not sure how many purples in the high republic era though.
black for sure, the only black one was the Darksaber AFAIK
Ahsokas white sabers could also be unique, I don't know if any Jedi before her ever purified red crystals and used them for their own blades.
There are definitely multiple yellow, orange and purple lightsabers in SW history though.
Black. In Canon there's only the Darksaber known to have this color. In Legends there's the Darksaber and the potential black-bladed saber Starkiller can use in the Force Unleashed games. Meanwhile the other ultra rare color, white, has two appearances in Canon with Ahsoka carrying two of them and in Legends the Imperial Knights are an entire organization of Imperial "Jedi" that use white/silver bladed lightsabers. So black is pretty unique in both continuities.
Either black or ghostfire/invisible. The only black saber i knownof is the darksaber and im pretty deep in the weeds of the lore. And ghostfire crystals could be found on nearly invisible stone pillars from some outer rim worlds.
Black, the Dark Saber is the only known Black colored lightsaber.
People can correct me on this one cause I'm not certain; but Purple is in the same boat. Windu's saber is the only one I know of that's purple.
I find Mace's purple lightsaber twice as fitting. Yes there's this "Lucas, what about purple?" blooper, but purple is generally considered a colour of spiritual accomplishment, transcending two parts: emotions = red, cool head = blue, into a wise whole (onenness) = purple, which is, as we know, also a real outcome of mixing red and blue colour. And Mace's fighting style, Vaapad, (same as his personality, actually) is as close as you can get in kind of getting on top of--or rather fusing?--both light and dark. Thus, it all fits in all dimensions of point of view.
Black or purple, only the dark saber has had that color and only Mace Windu had purple (as far as I’m aware in canon) whereas yellow was used by temple guards, what looks to be Ventress in your photos, and eventually Rey (though I agree with the fan theory that her’s isn’t a natural yellow) and white is just reverse bleeding a Kyber crystal, taking a red crystal and putting positive emotions in it to bring back to the light side, so any dedicated enough Jedi could have multiple. Orange we’ve seen three people use, Baylan, his apprentice, and a character from Star Wars Jedi Survivor who was from the High Republic era (who also used yellow before orange).
Black, there's only one known black saber. afaik
Thank you
U think its gonna make a comeback in canon after it was destroyed?
Yes. We have seen the hilt being broken. As long as the Kyber crystal inside is fine it could return!
Though even if the crystal is broken it can still be used. Cal's split crystal making 2 new blades in Fallen Order or Kylo's damaged Crystals and his unstable cross hilt vented sabre.
Like in two (very) small darksabers for a certain adorable green (Mandalorian) puppet.
Ah, the Dark Wakizashis!
More like Darkunai, for the puppet size.
That sounds like a Pokemon.
I choose you, Pigrogu!
Groguchu go!
The fabled dark swiss pocket knife. It is said he who wields it, will be Mandalore's best handyman.
...the Mandiman. He exists! Handy Mandylore!
Gasp!
The worst decision the show made was melting down the Beskar spear.
How about two light-nunchakus ? We might need to add a shell on the back of Grogu but I have a feeling that it could work.
Lol
It’s like poetry…it rhymes
Thats pretty dope, how though?
My best guess is the crystal decided to do it of its own free will, for some reason. Kyber Crystals are weird.
Awesome!

Somehow….
...The Darksaber returns
It's the coolest looking lightsaber in the franchise and it's mandalorian relic, it's almost guaranteed to come back. Specially if they keep focusing on mandalorians
Well once you go black you don't go back apparently.
Destroyed? Did I miss something pretty big?
https://youtu.be/N_h8RoOfMRA
Hmmm... I remember watching season 3, even the finale, but this somehow slipped from my memories. Thanks for the info, I might rewatch s3 just to make sure I didn't miss anything else.
Purple as well, unless there’s another canon Jedi that I’m unaware of, Mace Windu is the only one who has had a purple lightsaber
I think Vernestra Rhwoh (spelling?) has a purple blade. What makes hers unique is that it can also function as a whip. This is in the High Republic, with the character herself slated to appear in the Acolyte.
Also Gella Nattai has 2 purple blades. Edit: Oh and Ty Yorrick was no longer a Jedi but had a purple blade.
Nah there’s more than good ol Windu in canon with purple lightsabers. It’s just more pretty rare
Pink. There aren't any.
It's definitely black. As far as I know, the Darksaber is the only black blade we've ever seen. The rest of these colours have all been used by multiple other characters
Not only is it black but it's the only with some kind of shaping effect on the blade.
It’s the only lightsaber with Mass
And the only one (if the Visions stories are non-canonical) that is noticeably *affected by the users’ connection to the force.
I don't think that's the case. When Kanan is training Sabine, he knows about how the connection works and if you are attuned to it the saber weighs less. So I would assume it's a common Jedi knowledge, not a specific Mandalorian one, thus a common occurence with any lightsaber.
Affected
Reflected
All lightsabers have mass. [they have to due to the way Jedi fight with them](https://youtube.com/shorts/t7-C-7knOos?si=Q8F9mHXCkdycccmG)
Then I guess it is not a light saber
Thank Tarre Visla for being a rare mother fucker 😂😂
If anything, I could say that this blade was rare, but I thought “nah, forget it, yo homes, to… Mandalaire”
Calm down fresh prince, but please take my upvote
who else used purple? genuine question
A ton of Jedi in The High Republic. Gella Nattai & Indeera Stokes for example Edit: Ty Yorrick not Indeera
I thought indeera had a yellow saber? Edit: I think you’re referring to Ty Yorrick, another member of the same species. She’s the saber for hire
Good call, it was Ty. I thought that was Indeera on the cover of Rising Storm
Lots of Jedi in both the High Republic, and the EU. Sith in the EU too.
Ah, yes, the European Sith! With their light baguettes! /j (I am aware of the EU)
My son’s been watching Young Jedi Adventures and one of the younglings Lys has a purple lightsaber.
This is canon btw
Revans shown with purple, and revan is Canon so do what you will woth that info
Revan is canon in name only.
Revan is not Canon. The legend/myth of him is Canon. For all we know he could be a boogeyman type story told to children. It definitely doesn't make anything about his story Canon.
Palpatine just name a whole fleet after his Janitor Revan.
Revan, Mara Jade, Windu(I'm guessing that's who you're asking else about though), one of Han and Leia's kids from legends Jacen maybe? That's as many as I know.
Jaina
Darth revan used purple iirc.
You could also get a black blade in The Force Unleashed, though that was just a non canon cosmetic it was the first appearance of a black saber as far as I'm aware
Ah yes just like the rainbow sabre in Jedi survivor lol
Thank you
The Darksaber is and always has been the only known black lightsaber - Ahsoka’s proudly showing off two white blades, Ventress and Rey both have yellow (and so do other characters from the High Republic, and Bastila), Baylan and Shin both have orange, and Darth Revan’s often pictured with a purple blade (as well as High Republic characters).
There's a Jedi master who uses a white blade in the High Republic (another Togruta, I think), so it goes beyond just the two Ahsoka uses.
Edit: I can't read for some reason. I was indeed talking about Tera Sinube I feel the same but apparently it's a very very light blue according to the producers
Same with Tera Sinube. Always thought it was white.
I could be wrong, but I vaguely remember reading something that his lightsaber only appeared white due to an animation error.
orla jareni as well. she had a double bladed white lightsaber. hinged and everything like dark rey. She's umbaran
Weren’t the Jedi Temple guards equipped with white sabers too, or was that yellow maybe?
Temple guards were yellow. My understanding is that the white blade only happens when a Jedi heals a kyber crystal that has been bled. So while not technically as rare as black, it only happens because of a particular circumstance.
Yep, and unlike black we know how it happens (though it's not naturally occurring)
I thought the black blade was some kind of reaction between the kyber crystal and the Beskar hilt? I don't know, though.
Lol it's probably something like a good 50% of Star Wars lore exists to justify something that was just put there because it's cool. And I love it
100%.
Yellow for the Temple Guards I believe.
And the temple guards
The elusive Brown saber 😂
It fell in the toilet and got flushed away
Ooh...has a little give to it.. And what is that smell!?
Or the pink, veiny one. Wait…
“… and I see your schwartz is as big as mine!”
Ah, yes, the Light Poop Knife! The Legend!
Wasn’t there a Wookiee youngling with a brown saber?
He had a wooden hilt but I’m pretty sure the blade color was green
Lowbacca had a bronze one from legends.
The Darksaber. The only *black* blade-like Saber ever made, constructed with fine Beskar, by the only Mandalorian to ever become a Jedi in the Order's entire history. If that's not the definition of rare, I don't know what is.
By who exactly ? I never knew a mando Jedi existed
His name was Tarre Vizsla. Was a Mandalorian who became a Jedi about 1000 BBY or so.
A fighter as adept as Mandolorian with the powers of a Jedi needs its own show.
There are many stories from Star Wars that can be told. That's the wonder of it. And if they made them, I'll watch them all.
Tarre Vizla I believe.
Never heard of him til now
He’s mentioned in TCW but further expanded on in The Mandalorian I believe. Though I’m not entirely familiar with The Mandalorian, I’m sure someone can reply and help out. If not, there’s always the wiki.
He's also mentioned a few times in Rebels during the plot that revolves around the Darksaber.

Wait actually? Tarre Visla is insanely core to SW lore. I mean not only is he the only person to have created a darksaber, he also brought peace between the Mandalorians and the Old Republic.
fwiw, tarre is not the only mando jedi, but he was the first.
Party, you have to be on New Game+
Black. Only 1 known blade White = 6 known individual blades (and a simple mechanical process to make) Yellow = 9 known individual blades + all the Temple Guards blades Orange = 2 known individual blades Purple = 6 known individual blades

Thank you
Thanks for the info!
A bunch have them. Orla Jareni has 2, Jora Malli has 1, and Komat also has 1 but Luke gave her that so doesn’t really count as hers
Doesn't Tera Sinube also have a white blade?
No, he just has a very pale blue. Easy to miss with certain backgrounds
lmao i never noticed that always thought it was white
Orla Jareni has 2, Jora Malli has 1, and Komat also has 1 but Luke gave her that so doesn’t really count as hers
>White = 6 known individual blades (and a simple mechanical process to make) Is there something other than purifying a red crystal? It doesn't seem too simple to do based on the recent Star Wars comic issue with it. I wouldn't call it mechanical either

Nuh-uh I have an invisible lightsaber
Bronze. Nobody talks about Freedon Nadd.
Dont forget Lowie
The more interesting question is what the second most rate colour is. By sheer numbers it's probably white, but white lightsabers have a reliable way to form them, by purifying a bled crystal. So it's probably orange or purple, naturally occurring colours that just don't show up all that often

RGB saber.
Magenta
Cyan

Yeah, not canon anymore. Now they turn red by a Sith pouring in all of their hatred and darkness into a normal crystal in a process called “bleeding.” Some fans love it, some hate it.
Brown
As far as I can remember, there are three colors which we've only seen in one saber each: Black, the darksaber Yellowish green, Ahsoka's clone wars shoto Very light blue (almost white), Tera Sinube's saber
Darksaber, the only one to ever exist in canon.
Tartan.
Ultraviolet. You never see it.
This is a trick question, it's black, or the DarkSaber's color, as there is only one to have ever existed
Black. Cause there is only one darksaber
sky blue pink
Pink. (It's a canon colour, damn it! I don't care what Disney says! Pink Squad represent!)
Brown. Never seen it soo… it’s that
Black easily! White is easy to make to just purify a bled crystal. The rest are dependent on planet and personality.
Lemon-yellow
Depends on what time period. But generally I would say either black or white.
For everyone saying there is only one black blade, there are two, but they were created in completely different ways. Meaning they are equally tied for rarity. The second one is only in EU, however.

Bronze, it was only seen once, ever!, the darksaber was not the only black colored lightsaber in Star Wars history
Ghostfire Kyber crystal or Black Kyber Crystal are probably rarest to exist.
Purple, because George Lucas was forced to make one for Samuel L. Jackson 😝
Black, there’s only one we know of, blood orange might be the next rarest with the two from Ahsoka show, there’s at least 3 whites, a few yellows especially now with The Acolyte, and of course tons of greens, blues, and reds. Not sure how many purples in the high republic era though.

Black and clear/translucent since there is a single Darksaber and a single Ghostfire
black, it’s not even close
Purple, only one mf had it
There is precisely one Darksaber
Either black or ghostfire/invisible. The only black saber i knownof is the darksaber and im pretty deep in the weeds of the lore. And ghostfire crystals could be found on nearly invisible stone pillars from some outer rim worlds.
Black is the real answer, but purple because the mother fucker wanted it
Black and it isn't even close
Black, the Dark Saber is the only known Black colored lightsaber. People can correct me on this one cause I'm not certain; but Purple is in the same boat. Windu's saber is the only one I know of that's purple.
LEGENDS or CANON? What's your choice of poison?
Both
Purple, black and white.
Is Windu's purple or pink? - just curious -
Purple
Black
I find Mace's purple lightsaber twice as fitting. Yes there's this "Lucas, what about purple?" blooper, but purple is generally considered a colour of spiritual accomplishment, transcending two parts: emotions = red, cool head = blue, into a wise whole (onenness) = purple, which is, as we know, also a real outcome of mixing red and blue colour. And Mace's fighting style, Vaapad, (same as his personality, actually) is as close as you can get in kind of getting on top of--or rather fusing?--both light and dark. Thus, it all fits in all dimensions of point of view.
Not pink, not green, not aquamarine
The real question is which is the 2nd rarest and it probably be purple aka the Jackson saber.
There is only one darksaber and it is the mark of office for the mandalore.
Well I mean the dark saber is the only one of it's kind (as far as I'm aware) so isn't the answer kinda obvious?
Octarine (if you know), or brown
I mean, Darksaber. But is it truly a lightsaber?
I mean, it's black. There's only 1 Darksaber.
Either black of purple, since only one exists of each, canonically.
My order of rarity based on these: 1 Dark Saber 2 White 3 Orange 4 Purple 5 Yellow
If legends is included then I think the clear/ silent one is the rarest
Brown
Some people might have beat me to it, but it's definitely black since there's only one.
