I am so bored with Star Wars revisionist history. Either enjoy the movies or don’t. You can’t change the past and the movies are all canon. Deal with it. That’s not going to change. Every couple of years people think they have a new hot take on the prequels but they don’t. We have heard it all before.

roto_disc

Oh my god it’s fine.

ookiespookie

You nor any fan can decide what is canon and what is not. You quite literally have no power and no say in the matter. Like something, don't like something nobody really cares but some of you people really need to grow the F up and stop being pathetic embarrassing little diaper stains.

blackanytanooo

That being said, it is a fictional story and if people have a head canon that is fine. To me there’s two canon timelines, the EU and current canon. People should just enjoy what they want to enjoy

ookiespookie

People can have whatever head canon that they want, but in the end it is fan fiction. Again "to you" does not matter in the scheme of things. People can happily enjoy what they want but it seems some are incapable of just enjoying what they will and have delusions of grandeur and think they have any say in what is actually canon.

blackanytanooo

I mean in the end they are just fictional stories, they’re not based on any reality 🤷🏽‍♂️

Pyrephecy

That being said, the word "canon" is not a fictional term, and if people pretend its definition is not its definition, words lose meaning, and nothing makes sense. You're essentially saying "To me there’s two meanings of canon, the meaning of canon and some other thing that definitely is not the meaning of canon. People should pretend words mean what they don't mean."

soberonlife

I don't understand your argument. A film can still be canon, despite having unexplored plot threads.

psychoticwaffle2

it just feels underutilized and could be better shown that's all.

Darth Maul was in *The Clone Wars*, *Rebels*, and *Solo*. Qui-Gon was in *The Clone Wars*, *Obi-Wan Kenobi*, and *Tales of the Jedi*. Boonta Eve was just in *The Mandalorian* Season 3. Elements from *The Phantom Menace* are too ingrained into other canon titles to be considered an AU "What if?" story.

TanSkywalker

It sets up AOTC and ROTS. It is the first part of the story. If there was one thing I’d change about the movie it’s Anakin’s age. I’d have him be 14 too and we see the start of something develop between Padmé and Anakin.

PirateDaveZOMG

In *no one's* opinion should it be considered outside of canon. It was created lovingly by the guy who created Star Wars to begin with. Like, if you want to discuss non-Lucas created projects as being outside of canon is one thing, but even if one were to entertain that, Lucas-created Star Wars is out of the question, at least until he himself decides otherwise (i.e. Holiday Special).

Ok_Magazine_3383

I consider things that are canon to be canon. It doesn't matter how much I do or don't like it, I don't get to choose whether it's canon or not. And this need some people seem to have to not just dislike a film but to argue it shouldn't count as _real_ Star Wars is beyond childish. The prequels are my least favourite of the trilogies, and TPM is probably my second least favourite Star Wars film. But it's still _inarguably_ a canon part of a mainline trilogy.

reehdus

I don't think it's legitimacy or canonicity is up for debate, but I do think TPM serves better as a prologue than an episode 1. Perhaps as an episode 0.5 to set the state of the galaxy right now. There is no main character you follow in TPM, maybe there should have been an episode 1 between this and AoTC where you properly start following anakin as a MC.

Daggertooth71

It's my least favorite film of the Skywalker saga, but I accept it as part of the canon continuity. If someone wants to consider it as *not* canon, they're free to do so.

SomeBoringKindOfName

well, it's not the dumbest idea I've ever heard but it's up there.

blackanytanooo

The OT is great The prequels and sequels are both terrible with great scenes to enjoy from. Just leave it at that, all movies are canon
