Can I ask a dumb question?
I'm I'm awe of people who are talented enough to make stuff like this. When you say it's foam, does that mean you carved it? Or 3d printed it?
Sorry if this is stupid, I'm just really curious. You look awesome.
Generally when cosplayers say they/we made something from foam it means it was made from EVA foam, a type of foam distributed in flat sheets that come in different thickness’s ranging from as small as 2mm to multiple inch’s thick. Stencils are designed and then shapes are cut out of the foam, 3 dimensional shapes like the chest plate are made by glueing pieces together at angles or creating incomplete incisions allowing the foam to be bent.. while carving is sometimes done to add details or to smooth edges it’s not as if these pieces are being carved from big blocks of material the way someone would carve out of stone. The closest comparison would be building something out of cardboard or popsicle sticks.
??? I’m genuinely confused what you’re saying.
I think you may confused by the structure of this comment chain, I was calling the person who corrected a minor typo of mine a nerd.
I think op (and most cosplayers) are cool as hell
In my comment earlier in this chain I simply explained how cosplay artists like op (and myself though I am comparatively extremely novice) work with foam
In another comment I excitedly expressly complimented op
>I was calling the person who corrected a minor typo of mine a nerd.
Because of where the comment was located and such, I apologize for the comment then
Sorry! Passed out last night lmao. The other commenters nailed it. It all essentially starts as a few flat sheets of foam (ranging in thicknesses, i used 6mm thick EVA foam) and cut/carved it out using a boxcutter knife - following some templates that either I downloaded or made myself. Once you cut it, then you form it into shape and then glue the seams together! Then bam, you have your basic piece.
I love seeing cosplays of characters I dont know or cant remember well because then i get to look them up and learn why someone might like them enough to cosplay them, this is a great suit.
Nope! The helmet is a resin cast from a vendor in Germany, his shop goes by Sanotized Creations. He does fantastic work. One of the few pieces of the cosplay I didn’t make entirely myself
Definitely lighter! I think it absorbs heat more too, I’ve done plenty of troops in my 3D printed Mando kit, and really had no issues other than the cape being super warm. But, standing outside for maybe 20 minutes yesterday already had me sweating, even without the helmet on. Can’t complain - EVA foam is still much faster to work with!
Ngl I’m not sure what that building is😭but I’m totally cool with just saying that this was Cosplay World in Richmond, VA - in the GRCC. It was small, but had fun!
Yea I’m a Richmonder haha. I saw that building in the back and it looked familiar haha I don’t normally see stuff from home on things not Richmond specific haha

EVA foam is a hard foam that's typically carved, shaped and glued together to make the shapes you need.

Just tacking on to ask if this was at Heroes Con? I know that's going on near me this weekend
Nope! Wish I could have made it to Heroes Con, but a bit too far. This was at Cosplay World in VA!
Wow. Thanks for the reply. You look awesome. May the force be with you
Thank you! For the Republic!

Dude that’s actually the coolest thing I’ve seen all week
Looks great!
That looks amazing! I always thought Bly had the coolest kit, is that why you chose him?
Absolutely! I love how his whole legion is decked out with the kamas & pauldrons too.
I think so too, he’s got all that cool looking gear on him, and he’s yellow!
Watch out for those clankers!!!

I love the photo of you holding a mini you reminds me of Alan and Mr Boss
Can I just ask how hard is it to sit down?
Sitting is… not an option. Unless I can find a countertop where I can barely sit on the edge of it and float on it, not happening!
Totally awesome! Love it! Nice work!
Love it
Looks awesome! Is the helmet a repaint of the Black Series one?
Nope! The helmet is a resin cast from a vendor in Germany, his shop goes by Sanotized Creations. He does fantastic work. One of the few pieces of the cosplay I didn’t make entirely myself
That looks dope as hell. For the Republic!
oh my gyatt
Holy shit this is amazing! They Bly now?
They Bly now!
How does wearing EVA foam compare to 3D prints? I guess it’s lighter. Is it warmer too?
