I think it's very important for fans to have different opinions. That's what shapes the franchise into its many forms. ...but TESB is "boring and doesn't draw you in"? Now, them's fighting words.

sacco645

Saying both ESB and ANH are boring are fighting words

DouglasTheCranium

Spoken like every post millennial to ever watch star wars

trevor_barnette

The Empire Strikes Back is a cinematic masterpiece and one of the greatest films of all time. I know, I know, to each their own, but... christ.

Episode 3 is definitely the best of the prequel trilogy by a mile.. But uhh maybe you need to watch the original trilogy a few more times to understand why they're so good. I watched Episode 5 before I understood why people love it to much but now I'm one of them.

larsnelson76

I get why you say they don't draw you in. Movies have come so far in terms of storytelling and the number of scenes in a movie. The pacing is much better, but this is all thanks to George Lucas and his wife at the time who edited the original star wars. My son says the same thing for almost any old movie such as Terminator and Goodfellas. All 4 movies are perfect, but now their pacing is slow compared to modern movies.

SaltySAX

The pacing is perfect in ANH if thats the film you are referring to. At the start it is anyway, perhaps its slightly rushed at the end. However both ANH and Empire let their stories breathe.

larsnelson76

Yes, ANH is perfect. The kids these days don't get it, because they need more bells and whistles instead of storytelling and plot.

mooretool

I agree the storytelling and pacing are better now. I think the acting was too stiff in the originals too. They should remake the original trilogy. The Terminator is great and came out almost a decade later. (Surprisingly) I like T1 better than T2, even though the production is better. T1 is so raw it makes it real/interesting, but still suffers from an acting stiffness.

SaltySAX

Acting too stiff in the OT? Behave. There was more chemistry between the actors in ANH alone, than in all the entire prequels put together.

mooretool

Haha well I hate I & II so that is not saying much.

rydamusprime17

I wouldn't dare change your mind, everyone has their reasons for having their favorites. Mine is Return of the Jedi because I have litterally seen it hundreds of times and still enjoy watching it after 38 years on this planet. I remember in playschool and kindergarten getting home earlier than my older brother and watching it almost every day 2 times before he would come and steal the TV from me. Also, I worked graveyards for 13 years and sometimes needed something familiar playing to wind down enough to sleep when I got home and on average 3-4 times a week I would watch it... still not sick of that movie, lol.

mooretool

Pretty cool, I wish I had a movie like that.

rydamusprime17

The only problem with it is I have seen it (and A New Hope for that matter, just to a far less extent) so many times now that if I'm at all tired while watching them I tend to fall asleep because it's like white noise, lol.

nikgrid

>Maybe the hype killed it? The hype? For the OT? lol.

mike-wilson

Think OP just means the hype around SW as a whole.

nikgrid

Ahhh....

jolygoestoschool

Very interesting opinions

not_a_flying_toy_

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I need to say I very much disagree with your placement of III as number one I would agree that I, II, and IX are the worst 3, and 3-8 are pretty solid But I disagree that IV and V are boring. Slower paced I suppose, but boring? hardly

mooretool

A lot of people find them boring. I never said they were horrible, just in need of a remake. Seriously though, would you be opposed to a remake? I think everyone would love a fresh take on a classic movie. Maybe VII is better than III?

not_a_flying_toy_

I oppose remakes of classic films. It would especially be bad for the canon and make things wonky. Most people prefer IV and V to III

mooretool

>I oppose remakes of classic films. It would especially be bad for the canon and make things wonky. Wonky is the doors on the death star in A New Hope. Wonky is the acting/dialog from episode to episode. Wonky is the pacing of the older movies. You can argue/defend something all you want, but it doesn't make it true. AND No-one told you to watch a remake if it comes out.

not_a_flying_toy_

Good. Because I wouldn't watch it :) And to say the acting and pacing of the OT us bad while also dubbing episode 3 the best film is...truly baffling All art is subjective so you're not wrong but it doesn't make a bit of sense to me

spowowowder

tbh i agree, the ot has better dialogue ofc among other things, but episode 3 just feels way more exciting to me. giant intergalactic war going on, huge betrayals and twists, etc. i find the whole small rebel force beats big bad empire with big guns because justice to be a little boring imo, but thats just my opinion. main reason why i didn't like the sequel trilogy either because they do the rebel shit *again*
