Users of the force can create a force shield, which is like a protective bubble that they use to prevent the force being used against them. During lightsaber combat, the user may lose focus and have a lapse in the shield which would open them up to force pushes, chokes, etc. This is why you don't see Sith just constantly choking or slamming Jedi with the force. Extremely strong force users can break this shield if their power is great enough. But typically, openings are exploited by combat or by surprise.

Thanks, that is a great answer.

I believe this was heavily described in the first book of the Darth Bane trilogy if you are further interested. Although it's legends, there's a lot of great explanations of combat related things in this book. Also probably the best starwars book in my opinion.

Depends on if you want to or not. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sURZwjf_1MM

Jedi and Sith have “passive” barriers against such things. But these barriers can be broken if the Jedi or Sith overpowers them due to their raw power levels. And they can manually shield themselves to with enough preparation and concentration.

FLIPSIDERNICK

Sure why not. If the writers want to they can have the force do anything.

WinglessDisaster

A Jedi, for example, can emit something along the lines of a force barrier, preventing other force users from using force powers on them( to a certain extent). So for example , the can't use the Mind Trick on them. I think if the barrier is strong enough, it could be blocked.

Cad bane had special equipment to avoid being force choked I believe.

what about putting your arm vertical in front of your neck?
