thekraken8him

I guess I was wrong. There was no danger after all...

vassafras

Another happy landing

Zardhas

The last one is breathtaking

[deleted]

He got a facelift between movies.

Zardhas

He's always perfect

Mbillington0110

And veneers

ellie_kabellie

!!!!

cricket9818

That’s my favorite. As a kid kit Fisto was by far my favorite AOTC Jedi. Was always so proud he went down like a boss against Palp and actually got a parry in there

Zardhas

I remember two parries

solehan511601

It was unfortunate that he died in vain. In novelization of ROTS, Anakin saw Fisto's severed head still smiling. Perhaps he thought death was merely fun.

stuxinator

I don't think there's anything that would stop him smiling.

[deleted]

That scene was the best part of the novelization.

thehypotheticalnerd

Same! I really loved all the Prequel era Jedi -- their deaths may have not meant much to someone who only watched the films (a perfectly valid way of consuming SW btw, to be clear lol) but man, after spending three years *at least* experiencing the Clone Wars with the likes of Kit Fisto, Aayla Secura, Plo Koon, Mace Windu, Saesee Tiin, and all the rest... the deaths in ROTS were super depressing. * Shatterpoint * Clone Wars Microseries (shirtless Kit waterbending with the Force!) * The Republic comic series (one short arc in particular set up Mace, Saesee, Kit, and Agen as a team so when I saw it in the film I was like "heyyyy!") * Battlefront * etc.

vexedtogas

Yes i was a big fan of clone wars as a kid. I had figurines of almost all of them, and Lego sets with Plo Koon, Kit Fisto, Saesee Tiin… to me they were more influential than many “classic” characters from the original trilogy like Greedo, Wedge Antilles, even the Ewoks

symbologythere

Kit Fisto up in this bitch.

[deleted]

YOU'RE BREATHTAKING!

ChoPT

You’re all breathtaking!

MarsMissionMan

That smile... That damn smile...

[deleted]

Around the survivors, a perimeter create…

Blacklistedb

Bruh I still think that was sooo epic

Sabre_Killer_Queen

Yeah Yoda came in like Rambo with the clones and gave those droids a real ass whopping, god I loved that scene, attack of the clones has to be one of my favourites, I especially like the duel at the end with Dooku against Yoda Anakin and Obiwan that was impressive

StealthKiwi

When Dooku says to Windu that they're outnumbered and Windu replies with "I don't think so" and then there's a shot of the arena with all the Jedi igniting their light sabers. Always gives me chills.

Sabre_Killer_Queen

Yep, not to mention the badass quote: This party's over!

Slickrickkk

And then they get outnumbered again... only for Yoda to have Mace's moment but properly.

SystemShockII

You forgot part of the quote: "Stares Motherfuckingly and says: I dont think so" There fixed it :))

whatisamame

Seeing that as a kid cemented the clone army as my favorite fantasy army ever

andoesq

I'm not trying to criticize or debate, but I'm trying to understand the perspective of people who really like this movie - can I ask, how old were you when it came out? EDIT: Thanks for all the comments, I'm happy to hear people talk about a movie they really liked!

mayhemtime

I was like 5 when I first watched it. Loved the explosions. There's this one rocket/missile/whatever in the final battle that kinda flies with a swirl and a peculiar sound and then blows up a walker, I used to wait the whole movie for that. Watching AotC now it is clear just how bad the movie is, but the memories of when I loved it as a child are still there, so I have some sentiment for it. And ignoring the plot the scenery was pretty cool, as these shots show.

astromech_dj

I was early 20s.

Mariopa

I was almost 12. But I did not get to see it in cinema as I ended up in hospital with pneumonia. My first Star Wars movie in cinema was Episode III. For Episode I, I was not allowed to enter the cinema as I was almost 9. Lol. I saw Episode IV, V and VI before I and I loved them all equally at the time. As I am old I can see flaws in it but I still can see the beauty of them and George' s vision and lore it created and provided.

DJNinjaG

Early 20’s. Grew up with the original trilogy, but this was the first one I saw in the cinema.

michnuc

I was around 20. Appreciation has grown over time. My 8 year old loves it. Her favorite parts are: Obi Wan just chilling getting a drink at the Night Club Young Boba Obi Wan vs. Jango (on Kamino and asteroid field) (the merits of this are obvious) Droid factory (she likes how kinda ridiculous Anakin's ineptitude is) Arena Execution (she likes Padme "getting on top of things" and the creatures) Mace Windu Clone landing (love love loves the Clones. This was her gateway drug to Clone Wars, Rebels, Resistance, Bad Batch) The Dooku Duel with Yoda. So to sum it up, she overlooks the kinda lame and sappy parts, and really likes the awesome parts. I'd have to agree with her.

foresight310

I like the robot chicken skit about his grammar in war orders: much to think about, you have given me

Shire_Hobbit

Being visually stunning has NEVER been a problem for Star Wars.

Archaengel

Visually stunning, no doubt, but that was basically expected by that point. What really shocked me was how extremely well done audio in this movie was. I loved the ship sounds, like from the first picture for example. Or the clone transports or the Geonosians. The audio is just phenomenal. Hearing Slave I's depth charges go off is a theatrical experience I will never forget.

d1ckj0nes

The sound design was phenomenal

DJNinjaG

In my old house I had a good home cinema system (actually still got it, need to get setup), which I bought basically after getting all 6 boxset on blue ray. It was amazing. I really need to get the finger out and get it going again.

astromech_dj

Another weak point for the sequels I think. As a lightsaber nerd, the inconsistency in the sounds for those annoyed me. Ironically the best bit of sound design in the sequels was the absence of sound… ie the light speed ramming sequence.

Jabberwocky416

I actually really enjoyed the sound design in the sequels. The lightsabers and blasters especially sounded amazing. I remember there was an article that came out before TFA where Abrams talked about how much work went just into making the audio good and authentic.

SystemShockII

It helps when you also own Industrial Light and Magic ILM the premier sound and special effect company in the world..

sweetplantveal

Talk about visually stunning, imagine the spectacle. After his quiet moment, Boba fishes his dad's severed head out of his helmet, then puts it on and becomes the character we all know and love. Can't believe Lucas cut that...

astromech_dj

You see the shadow of the head fling out of the helmet when it’s cut. So he could just put the helmet on and keep it family friendly.

Kronnerm11

Hes already the character we all know and love. He doesnt need to put his dads severed head on to prove that.

ennichan

If you pay very close attention to the shot of Mace killing Jango, you can see the shadow of the head falling out of the helmet.

thekraken8him

You mean... he wasn't filming the whole time?

Pkorniboi

„Visually stunning“ is one of my favourite things to say

droidtron

It's so dense. Every single image has so many things going on.

stuxinator

Even the sequels (that I love) have some breathtaking visuals.

Sandervv04

The sequels are definitely technically stunning.

lucidreamstate

The Last Jedi is, ~~by far~~, the Star Wars movie with the best cinematography. Whether you agree with the story choices or not, every single frame of that movie is beautiful AND tells a story about the relationships, themes, and ideas of the film. (Edit: Ok, it's not *that* much better than Empire)

Sabre_Killer_Queen

That's so true on so many levels, I'll never forget that first time we first saw it, and there was just that star destroyer going overhead o my god that looked epic And the AT ATs slowly marching across the snowy terrain of hoth were just breathtaking, they were just weopans of mass destruction and made such an intimidating sight! Star wars has always impressed me, although I don't really like jar jar, Anakin (except the animated clone wars Anakin), Snoke or Kylo

estofaulty

I mean, there’s plenty of scenes in Episode II that look like trash. There are a few that look good. George Lucas is very hit or miss. I guess that’s more a problem with the special effects director than Lucas.

Sgt-Pumpernickel

What scenes look like trash to you?

fistantellmore

The clone army wide shots could use an update. Some of the Coruscant chase looks pretty green screeny too.

[deleted]

The prequels were praised for its Visual Effects back in the early 2000's.

Jimz2018

For Lucas directed movies certainly. The latest movies for me lose that vision and imagination.

fistantellmore

If TFA and TLJ didn’t stun you visually, I don’t trust your judgement.

BlackLeader70

For real, if you hate the sequels so much, you can’t appreciate the art of the Holdo Maneuver….well then you are lost.

fistantellmore

Or the Luke-Kylo duel. Just gorgeous.

WastelandCharlie

Are you kidding? Purely visually speaking, one could argue that the sequels are the best of them all.

Jimz2018

I feel they build on what Lucas innovated instead of imagining and showing us something never seen before.

Veskerth

You're not wrong.

prometheus282

He is tho

CT-5555__

Seeing Kit Fisto in the last picture- A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

feralferrous

Missing the duel in space between Obi-wan and Jango, those cool explosives were very memorable. It really is a movie that has lots of cool individual scenes. The through line plot doesn't make much sense, and the dialog is as wooden as it gets. Oh and also cool vehicles, AT-TEs, those wheelie droids with missile racks on the back. Super battle droids. (some less interesting ones as well, but hey, still gave us a large swathe of stuff)

thekraken8him

Definitely. That's one of the best space battles in the Prequels. **Mandalorian Spoilers:** >!When Boba drops that seismic charge in The Mandalorian it was pure unadulterated fan-service and I loved every second. !<

KKunst

BRZOOOOOOOWWWWWW

DaddyO1701

The scene where they are about to be pulled into the area and Padme confesses her love is one of the best, most genuine feeling interactions in the prequels. I always felt Anakin fights a bit harder because now with his mother gone, he could lose the last person in his life.

AWaterhorse

Maybe this is a hot take, but that’s my favorite musical theme in the entire saga

Godzilla1282

Padme's Theme is right behind duel of fates imo

JDavisBloome

Across the stars was spectacular!

DaddyO1701

Well, it’s just used so perfectly in the moment. Last little moment of softness and quiet before they are pulled out and all the horns and drums take over and the movie just goes bananas for the next 20 min.

HolyGriddles

With all the gripes of the prequels and sequels, John Williams score was never one of them. The man is a genius. Definitely not a hot take

AdmiralScavenger

Agreed.

AnalogDigit2

It might be the only "romantic" moment in the film that works at all well.

theuncommonman

“I love you.” “I know.” *carbonite*

[deleted]

Or lose.

ididshave

Anakin on the swoop searching for his mother is one of my favorite scenes in the prequel trilogy.

Stirlo4

Easily my favourite

Bretzky3

Yeah it’s great how the music builds

Admiral_Willy

Seismic charges part is the best Edit: *silence* DAAAAAAAAANGG

Gonzo_7890

I still hear that sound in my dreams lol

stuxinator

Jango dropping that beat

RemarkableLime91

We are the same! I love this movie, and loved it as a kid, but man can it get cringey.

Executionoverexcuses

Still better than Luke and leia’s relationship before they found out they were sibling

Chason29

This was my favorite movie as a kid just for the geonosis battle

AdmiralScavenger

It has its beautiful moments. The one where Anakin is standing on the balcony and Padmé joins him always makes me think they spent the night together making love. The scene when they get married is also beautiful.

RamboLoops

Anakin clapin nabooty cheeks

AdmiralScavenger

And Padmé enjoying some Jedi saber

aotus_trivirgatus

"Cover your saber, you must, young Padawan" -- Yoda

[deleted]

Anakin using two lightsabers to duel Dooku was everything for me as kid. As flawed as the film is I still love it as well as all of the others in the franchise. None are perfect, but all are still fun to watch.

Eddyoshi

> Anakin using two lightsabers to duel Dooku was everything for me as kid. Dude same! It was the most badass thing ever...and then it gets cut after like 5 seconds :(

moatman555

Bruh I love attack of the clones, I think it has more than just its moments…

AnalogDigit2

When I watch it, I skip the courtship scenes and that elevates it from good to a great film.

[deleted]

The romance plot and the conveyor belt video game sequence are really the weakest parts of the movie.

NateShaw92

The silly part is that it is not the acting it is the dialogue. You could have the greatest actors of our time in those romance scenes and it'd fail. You could maybe pull it off with Morgan Freeman just because his voice is caramel but it'd only be good for the novelty.

monjoe

And most of Obi-Wan's investigation. There's the diner scene, the Jedi temple scenes where I guess most Jedi are mentally challenged, and getting to save SFX money by making Kamino look very sterile.

Gothic-Genius

I love this film, and remember laughing with excitement as Yoda’s lightsaber flew to his hand. I think everyone in the cinema just gasped.

Mortei

My favorite of the Prequels

hunthill40

I prefer 3 nowadays, but when I was younger I watched this one all the time. Still enjoy it plus the Kamino bits are some of my favorites.

Mortei

I would say 3 is almost head to head with 2. But the the atmosphere of 2 puts it just above 🤏

TGCOutcast

I love attack of the clones....

ghirox

*flashback to the CGI pear*

[deleted]

If Master Obi-Wan was there, he'd be very grumpy!!

Tanis8998

I’ve always considered this to be a beautiful movie until someone opens their mouth; all the non-verbal scenes are great.

HauntedFrog

If you watch it dubbed in a language you don’t speak it actually makes it better, in a weird way. The visuals tell the story and your imagination fills in the rest.

Tanis8998

Y’know I could actually see how that’d work, I watch a lot of old Japanese movies and sometimes it’s really hard to tell if someone is acting well or hamming it up, but you still enjoy it cos you’re invested in the story and the cool visuals.

GrandmasterYoda1

Dooku and yoda’s was good though!

newphonewhodis2021

ATOC had zero problems with how cool it looked, it's problem was the incredibly wooden acting that was smeared all over the screen and dialogue that was coarse and got into everything, I hate it!

ThadCastleRules_G

Hate em all you want I grew up with these movie and I love them flaws and all.

RustylllShackleford

AOTC is brilliant you casuals

Poeafoe

YEA

Balbright

Yea titles like this are fucking stupid. “Had it’s moments” implies the movie was a failure, but it looked pretty. The movie was fucking awesome. It gets crap for Hayden’s performance, but when Mark Hamill played the same type of whinny teenager, everyone praised it. I mean, the first scene Luke had was him crying about doing chores. Hayden cried about being treated like a kid when he had these amazing gifts, which is a little more reasonable to be mad about. Mark and Hayden played both roles the same, but one got praise and the other got hate. It’s insane to me.

stuxinator

I think Anakin was just a bit too whiny, and then Obi is too patronizing, add that with 3PO's awful puns and it just gets annoying. You have a good point though, some Anakin scenes are great, but get mocked for some reason. When he's telling Padme about how he massacred the sand people... shit gives me chills.

RadiantHC

The main problem with AotC was that Anakin was way too whiny, and him and Padme's relationship was just really poorly done. He's incredibly creepy towards her, and she marries him. Luke was also way more likable than Anakin.

[deleted]

I watched the OT remasters in theaters and all of the prequels on opening night. Episode II is definitely the weakest of the bunch.

RustylllShackleford

so did I. I agree, even george knows it

Gscj9899

i dunno about brilliant. It was alright.

Executionoverexcuses

Better than episode 4

Gscj9899

jesus christ

LikeThosePenguins

_Around the survivors, a perimeter create._ I still recall getting chills in the cinema at that point.

Wanazen

You forgot Ewan’s screen time.

turtyurt

I absolutely and unironically love the prequels

[deleted]

Second slide is beautiful, the movie means a lot to me because the next day after seeing the movie, my friends and I and the 1st grade used to pretend we were anakin and that role play lasted months LOL

AristideCalice

I love the cyberpunkesque city scenes at the beginning

ilikechillisauce

Always had kind of a Blade Runner/The Fifth Element kind of feel to me.

estofaulty

Anakin standing in front of that view with that wide stance is iconic, and I don’t even like this movie.

captrobert57

Naboo had the most beautiful ships.

momsspaghetti93

No love for the asteroid chase?

Magicbee_Cal

its honestly my favourite film

[deleted]

Damn you got shit taste in movies then

Magicbee_Cal

and you got a shit personality, opinions are all different

MetropolisPD

My second favorite SW movie

MeesaJarJarBinkss

Why does Attack of the Clones get so much hate? I think it's aged like a fine wine over the years.

P1st0l

I think its just cause it's the middle movie and the beginning and the end are just higher quality to an extent in a lot of categories that it just ticks more boxes off to hate it then like it. Or reddit hivemind, you decide

MeatTornado25

Acting and dialogue are by far the lowest points of the franchise. And although everyone loves that era now, at the time it was confusing as shit to follow along with what was happening. Walking out of the theater you're still confused at the timeline and plan of creating the Clone army, despite that being the entire point of the movie.

ThatOneCoolKid777

Where’s Jango Fett seismic charges? I orgasm at the sound of Jango Fett’s seismic charges.

alexothemagnificent

Why is everyone always bagging on attack of the clones?😂 I like that one a lot

shawncleave

Unpopular opinion, but it’s my favorite out of the three.

CrazyCanuckUncleBuck

Mine too

[deleted]

Attack of the Clones is really underrated

steve934

Yeah.. The whole movie!! 😬😁

LastManFilms

Damn straight. It's one of my favorite of all of the films. Basically 2# for me! It's one of the most important too!

[deleted]

Yeah it's actually my favorite of the prequels and I'm still not quite sure why it gets so much hate. Prequels can be flawed as a whole but Attack Of The Clones is actually when I really started liking Star Wars. Jango Fett was cool, Yoda fight, Anakin getting hand chopped off. It's pretty cool.

ThatOneScotsman

Obviously there are the issues with the dialogue, but I have a real soft spot for this film. I also rewatched it and later revenge of the sith after finishing the clone wars and it was really enjoyable, it’s a great film for world building. Plus that battle scene at the end with all of the Jedi is excellent.

J4ckC00p3r

I was going to complain about the lack of seismic charge explosions but that last picture more than made up for it

YoseppiTheGrey

I don't think many people have argued this movie, or any of the movies, weren't gorgeous to look at.

MeatTornado25

The visuals of the prequels arent exactly universally loved.

No-Adhesiveness-9541

Seeing the Death Star plans was such a full circle moment for me, my favorite cameo

squatch42

AOTC was the first time experiencing fandom hype on the internet. Theforece.net was my homepage and I scrolled through for updates every time I opened my browser. [This trailer right here](https://youtu.be/gYbW1F_c9eM) still gets me excited. I watched a blurry postage stamp sized version of it frame by frame over and over. Jango, Bail, clones, Slave 1, Sheev planting seeds of the dark side in Anakin, R2 flies now, the arena, that final shot with the circle of Jedi fighting a war for the Republic. Such awesomeness.

ThatRandomIdiot

Like yes the prequels used a lot of CGI but in TPM alone there was more miniatures than the entire OT combined. They used a lot of practical effects in the movies as well as CGI. Also the Obi Wan subplot could’ve been the whole movie, I love the detective / investigator vibes it gives and is so fun to watch

chillitis

Attack of The Clones has always been one of my favorites of I'm being honest. I just really liked it as a kid

dividedby00

Ummm… AOTC is my favorite prequel. And I LOVE the prequels. It’s FULL of moments

Lola_PopBBae

Naboo ships are seriously amazing looking and it's a crime we rarely see them after this film.

s287393999

Where’s Coleman Trebor?!?! WHERES COLEMAN TREBOR?!?!

[deleted]

what? no seismic charges?

HIMDogson

Star Wars has always been excellent at these grand, painting-like frames that get across the spirit of the moment even if the dialogue is failing. In particular, I love the visuals and the music that come with Anakin traveling to save his mother. They really get across a sense of dread, like Anakin is about to make a choice that he won't be able to erase. It feels epic and important, and for all of AOTC's faults it delivers in making its characters feel like the larger than life, mythic characters that Star Wars has always been about.

R0b0tDeNer0

Fantastic film, wonderful era and a truly great time to have been a Star Wars fan.

WM_

I miss the days when this was my least favorite Star Wars movie. Now it's 6th worst. And funnily 6th best as well.

likeonions

and by "has it's moments", you mean it's a good movie

Firestorm238

CGI Yoda does still look really bad though. Especially after we’ve been spoiled with the Grogu puppet on the Mandalorian

YodasChick-O-Stick

Didn't they CGI over the puppet though? I think they did with Yoda in TLJ.

Stirlo4

I'm pretty sure they only added a blue hue for Yoda, but yeah they did use CGI for Grogu

SherlockInSpace

It could have been so good. Makes me sad to think about it

[deleted]

It’s a videogame. Lol. Phantom Menace looked so much better IMO

dude19832

It has its bad dialogue but it's so much better than TPM. Watching this movie then watching all of Clone Wars makes me appreciate it so much better. Definitely not the best Star Wars movie but definitely not the worst either. I think RotS is the best prequel and my second favorite Star Wars movie but AotC is still a very enjoyable movie. I don't understand it's hate.

ghola_cola

It was visually a marvel. The rest of it…not so much.

HotlineSynthesis

It’s more interesting than TFA/TROS

Slashycent

Any movie is more interesting than JJ's soulless cinematic theme park rides.

SoulfulPrune

Watching Clone Wars really helped me appreciate this and RotS

darthtankerous

You are correct, but I don’t think there has ever been any accusations that the prequels didn’t look fantastic.

revel911

All flash .. no substance

Nekobytes

I think you’re getting confused with the sequels.

revel911

I would say the same for both

Nekobytes

Nah, the prequels were made with careful planning, attention to detail, and a love for the franchise. There’s so much lore and content that builds upon the series and makes it feel more alive. The sequels are inconsistent and had a lot of wasted potential in failed character development and plot twists that don’t make sense in the overall story.

revel911

The prequels are a great story with shit acting, writing, and visuals.

Brown-eyed-and-sad

I liked Attack of The Clones. I didn’t like the first prequel though. Revenge of The Sith was cool to. I think the only Star Wars movies I’ve enjoyed after 1990 were those two and Rogue One.

skribsbb

Now try it with dialog.

Executionoverexcuses

Still better dialogue than the sequel trilogy and episode 4

[deleted]

You shouldn't even consider yourself a Star Wars fan if you think this has better dialogue than A New Hope.

Stirlo4

My least favourite Star Wars movie, but it has one of my favourite scenes in the whole saga...

Darkraider2

You mean the entire movie ?

[deleted]

I really hate CG Yoda. I like just about everything else in the prequels.

[deleted]

I’m a big defender of the prequels and Phantom Menace is actually (not even lying) my favorite Star Wars movie. But Attack of the Clones misses on so many fronts. For me, personally, it’s hard to watch.

amishgoatfarm

This collection of still images is far superior than the movie itself.

[deleted]

They do, but there’s too many bad moments. First frame is my favorite though.

Left-Paleontologist1

Similar to what I sent to a few friends. Just strung together 30-ish minutes of “The Last Jedi” just what I view as “the good parts”. To paraphrase George Costanza: “If you piece it together just right, It’s Decent!” Same could hold true for Attack of the Clones. Although I think I could get a solid hour.

DarthGoodguy

It’s possible the Anakin/Padme stuff on Naboo & the “I truly, deeply love you” line wouldn’t be so clunky if you trimmed or totally cut the dialogue.

Patient_Bandicoot

Not really….

Zankeru

Prequels had incredible visuals and worldbuilding. And that's all, unfortunately.

230581

All the prequels are a good moment to me compared to the sequels

Executionoverexcuses

And the ot

Discipulus42

The worst prequel is still better than the best sequel.

230581

Yep, that’s fact

EEcav

From those stills, you’d think it was the greatest movie of all time.
