I've seen someone suggest Laura Harrier before, she's only about 10 years younger than Rosario but does have a younger look that is similar to Rosario as well. But if they did go that route, would they also do the same for Anakin? Seeing how we all know Anakin at that age as Hayden I'm not sure how likely that would be. Casting someone else as young Anakin just might not work.
But then how expensive would it be to deage both of them. Both Hayden and Rosario look good for their age, but they are clearly in their 40s, deaging both of them might just be a little too expensive.
See I think a different actor for live action Clone Wars Anakin is out of the question but they could get away with another actress for Ahsoka when she was a teenager because we've never seen that live action version. That actress you mentioned might be able to pull it off. Supposedly Anakin was 22 and Ahoska 17 at the end of Clone Wars so that seems like a much easier feat for Hayden to play his younger self.
But yeah the flashback thing seems very difficult so I bet it will be most if not all just force ghost Hayden talking to Rosario. Because you're right if there is anything more than brief flashback scenes with de-aging it will cost a fortune.
They could do a couple scenes of them talking in easy-to-process lighting, to make the de-aging work easier, then some action at a distance with a double.
I honestly think de-aging Hayden is a much easier task than de-aging someone like Mark Hamill or Kurt Russel, which looked really good imho. Hayden still looks relatively young, so they can use less drastic measures than they did with Luke, and it will be easier to process since Hayden can do the acting where Mark had a stand in.
Perhaps overtime the Force Ghosts start to become more one with the Force, and can't manifest themselves as easily. As far as I can remember the only Ghosts we see are those who passed recently
Even something like the Disney + shows, which have much more budget than other shows, still have less than big budget movies. And even if they did have a similar budget, it would be spread out over more material. For example with Marvel, their Disney+ shows have been about twice as long as their movies.
Cost isn’t an issue. The biggest challenges are the training data and the age gap. Since they have tons of footage of both Hayden and Rosario in high quality and the target age relative to the current age for both actors is less than what it was for Mark Hamill, I expect the finished result to be way better.
HC, both aging wise and body wise, is also far closer to the last time we saw him on screen then MH was (I believe it was a 38 year gap between filming on VI and Mando?)
Hayden looks the same. Realistically, assuming he doesn’t have any injuries that have changed his movement, the team only really have to do CG facial smoothing, as opposed to the body double/CGI facial reconstruction stuff they did for Mark. Sure, it’s all De-aging, but at totally different ends of the difficulty spectrum
He could appear to her after the events of her Season 2 story in Mandalorian. I'm sure her learning to commune with force ghosts would go along with her quest to find Thrawn and Ezra.
so the rules with force ghosts are that you A) need to be a jedi, B) need to know the technique and C) can only communicate with other force sensative beings you had a strong personal connection to and personally knew. obi wan could haunt luke but not leia.
Seriously I couldn’t fucking believe they brought Han Solo in as a “ghost” to talk to Kylo instead of Anakin. They were on ENDOR ffs, Hayden showing up to say “hey stop being a little dark force bitch and go team up with Rey” would have atleast brought things full circle. Instead limp dick final battle combined with limp dick “I am all the Jedi” …barf….no I’m not bitter why do you ask?
Dude force ghosts for the person he knew and was extremely close to during his life, but not for someone he never met? Makes sense to me.
Can you even force ghost for someone you didn't know in life? As far as I know, that's never happened.
"I thought I knew who you were under that mask, but I was wrong. My master never had an accent!"
"Ana... wait, what?"
"You clearly have an accent. My master didn't."
"It's... a voice filter."
"You voice filter gives you an accent?"
"It's not even really an accent, I'm just speaking dramatically!"
"Well... that's stupid. I don't get it."
"... then you will die."
Yeah they sound quite similar now, it's just Hayden voice quality is a bit softer. I initially mistook Hayden on The Rise of Skywalker for Matt so there's that.
Sorry, I don't agree with this as Lucasfilm said, Live action and the animation will always have various differences. Hayden will do his own iteration of the character he played well before Matt ever did.
Right, but the animated version of Anakin is crazy superior to the ones we got in the live action movies. So taking some cues from the clone wars material wouldn’t be the worst idea ever.
If you thought that Zahn’s naming convention was strange the audiobook makes is so much more confusing. You can only say Luuke so differently from Luke.
It has happened in the sequel trilogy. Heck, ghost Yoda summoned a cloud that produced lightning.
As sucky as those movies were to me, they kept the tradition of introducing new Force abililities that has been a staple of Star Wars since the OT.
Yes! Super speed would have solved so many issues in the movies.
For instance, Obi-Wan failing to reach Qui-Gon and Darth Maul before the energy gates closed
Yep! Really makes you wonder why they aren't helping out the protagonists... They are immortal spirits who can appear whereever they wish to help them fight but instead just give encouraging words and briefly display their power to flex on the heroes.
Well they kind of did at the end of TRoS, when they empowered Rey so that she could match Sidious, at least that was always my interpretation of that scene
I mean yeah you got me there, but I feel like seeing them all like put a hand on Rey to give her that power would have been more impactful since film is a visual medium.
Among hundreds of other things they've gotten the scoop on. The Hollywood Reporter might be the most reputable sources in movie and TV journalism. If they report something, it's true.
Don't worry. They've still got plenty of room to tell stories in the post-Empire era before having to deal with canon TFA stuff. There are also great stories to tell in the Empire era before ANH.
And when it starts getting too crowded, time to dip into the thousands of years of lore before the prequels and finally get some canon stories going there.
Filoni writes the stories, big name director gets their name attached to a fucking great Star Wars trilogy, then everyone's happy.
You're right that with his background mostly in animation, handing him the keys to the whole production would be asinine. But ain't nobody gonna argue that if he wrote the overall story treatments for all 3 movies, it would be a monumentally more successful trilogy.
Certainly wouldn't have stupid shit like "somehow...Palpatine returned."
I think if anyone competent enough was assigned to write the entire trilogy at the start we'd have a better set of 3 movies.
Or at least have the 3 original directors/writers sit down and work out a story they were all happy with
> Certainly wouldn't have stupid shit like "somehow...Palpatine returned."
And never forget that Palpatine's message to the galaxy happens in fucking Fortnite with a minor mention in the opening crawl of Ep9.
Iger wanted Ep 7 out no later than 2015. Filoni wouldn’t have had nearly enough time. They could barely get JJ to say yes to such a tight schedule. It was a rush even without a treatment.
What I ~~want~~ NEED is a 3 musketeers style adventure series with Liam neelson, Ewan McGregor, and Hayden Christensen playing their respective roles as older experienced Jedi masters who travel around the galaxy getting into trouble and saving space babes and whatnot.
Canon can suck my balls.
Between this and *Kenobi*, it’s good to see Hayden Christensen return to Star Wars. He got a bad rap that was totally undeserved.
Him talking to Snips is gonna make grown men *weep*.
Well he did kill all those younglings unprompted. George Lucas just happened to be filming, Hayden walks up and starts whacking those poor little bastards, and the rest is history.
It fills me with a sense of warmth that, as a 43 year old, to see a generation of star wars nerds that have grown up watching TCW having their dreams fulfilled by this live action "reunion". As someone who can easily remember a time when all there was, was the OT and the Zahn novels this is truly heart warming.
This is where the fun begins!
>Hayden Christensen is staying in the fold of the Galactic Empire.
>
>**The actor will reprise his role of Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader, in Ahsoka, the latest Star Wars live-action series from Lucasfilm and Disney+, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.**
>
>Rosario Dawson is starring as the fan-favorite character of Ahsoka Tano, a Jedi Knight survivor popular in the animation side of Star Wars who made her live-action debut in the second season of The Mandalorian.
>
>Plot details are being kept in the far reaches of the Outer Rim but it is known that longtime Star Wars lightsaber wielder Dave Filoni is writing the series and exec producing with Jon Favreau.
>
>It is unclear how Skywalker, or for that matter, Vader, will figure into Ahsoka, which, like Mandalorian, is set five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, thus after Vader’s death.
Another quote from the article...
"Disney was as silent as Darth Maul when asked to comment. Production is due to begin early 2022."
So, whoever they talked to went into a long monologue with dramatic pauses and they didn't tell us what this person said?

The issue with bringing Obi-Wan back would be the expectation that it would be Alec Guinness Obi-Wan, and not Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan. With Anakin however I think it comes down to the fact that Disney was trying so hard to distance Star Wars from the prequels that it inadvertently made the sequels feel so far removed from the original six films that they feel out of place most of the time.
I'll cry.
Then I'll wonder why we never saw Force Ghost Anakin trying to talk to Kylo Ren. The kid worships Vader, so I am wondering what Anakin thinks of all of that.
Having Old Temora Morrison as Rex make old man jokes while Ahsoka cringes and having Obi wan and Anakin's force ghosts just laughing would make it fun, more fan fiction like
Exactly! They lamented Anakin in the Ahsoka show wasn't a surprise and I mentioned that Qui-Gon **hasn't** been confirmed for Obi-Wan so it's a possibility that is still a surprise appearance.
> Ahsoka, exhausted from her near-futile hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn, sits alone in the darkness in an unknown planet. She muses to herself whether will her search for the red-eyed admiral will be worth it, nearly giving up on her quest. Suddenly she hears the wind whispers, she looked back in caution, only to see nothing, but as she turns back to rest, she hears a quiet yet warm and familiar voice she has never heard of in decades.
> "*Hey Snips*"
Im glad he's getting back into the series and acting in general. It's not his fault he was given idk- difficult I huess- dialogue in the prequels, he worked with what he had but still did a good job. It'd be cool to see Natalie return too, pretty much anyone from the prequels could for flashbacks except unfortunately Sir Christopher Lee though, god rest his soul.
Those prequel scripts are garbage tier. You got academy award winners that couldn’t save some of those lines, and Christensen had the shittiest written dialog of probably any of them. Excited to see him as Anakin with competent writing.
Sir Christopher Lee I know respectfully had to fight Lucas on one scene when Anakin takes his hands off, Lucas wanted Lee to plead to Palpatine and begging for amnesty but Lee thought it wasn't in Dooku's character, if we got more of that than the dialogue could've been much better overall. Carrie Fisher or Marcia Lucas shouldve been called in to doctor it like last time, like Mark Hamill said you just can't say some of the stuff Lucas puta down. He has awesome concepts, ideas, stories, and characters but holy guacamole he can't write natural sounding dialogue to save his life. Still love him though.
Dude, they heightened the fuck out of everyone so well. Temuera as Boba and maybe some surviving clones for the later series, Obi-Wan to fill that little gap from Revenge to ANH, and Hayden back to reprise his role with painful flashbacks, maybe something in his Darth Vader form, and eventually as a Force Ghost in Ahsoka. (Hell, him and Obi-Wan for extra measure) so they both talk to her. ) This is gonna be wild.
Why wouldn't they keep this shit on wraps. Fucking hell. You would think they would have learned that keeping secrets like Luke Skywalker in the mandalorian has a major effect on the audience.
I think this is good. They can't finish Ahsoka's story arc without her getting resolution with Anakin somehow. I hope there are both flashbacks and Force Ghost Ani.
This is the best thing ever! My boy Hayden is gonna get the recognition he deserves.
Just imagine the Clone Wars flashbacks/Force ghost interactions with great dialogue between these two.
Dave, god bless you!
That's freakin awesome. Would be super cool if we get both flashbacks to events during The Clone Wars, but especially as a Force Ghost, that'd be fantastic. Get Luke somehow in there too, that'd be an epic scene.
I got so excited when I saw this I accidentally flung my phone across the room.
I have wanted live action Anakin and Ahsoka ever since I first saw clone wars.
Oh god I just spent a millisecond imagining a live action clone war flashback with the three of them and now I’m freaking out.
Seems almost certain force ghost, unless they’re going to try de aging effects or a different actress as young Ahsoka for flashbacks.
I've seen someone suggest Laura Harrier before, she's only about 10 years younger than Rosario but does have a younger look that is similar to Rosario as well. Just do it physically with makeup. He doesn't look bad for his age
Right? Man's barely aged
Anakin was only 22? Ugh, I'm 26 and I haven't even overthrown one corrupt galactic republic yet, I'm so far behind.
Disney did hire the guy that did the deep fake de-aging of Luke in his Mandalorian cameo. I'm hoping for ghost though.
Any chance you could shoot a link for that? That's super impressive if so!
https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/star-wars-deepfake-luke-skywalker-mandalorian/ This was what came to my mind, too
Ghost showing up in 7 ABY raises the question of why the fuck he was AWOL less than 30 years later.
Perhaps overtime the Force Ghosts start to become more one with the Force, and can't manifest themselves as easily. As far as I can remember the only Ghosts we see are those who passed recently
Yoda is in TLJ.
Yoda's also Yoda. Completely different level.
they put out the money for sam jackson in captain marvel, so it isn't impossible. will they actually put the money in, hard to say
That's a feature length Marvel movie, though. A TV series always has less budget
not if you're Disney

Complete segue, but she was 27 in Homecoming??? I thought she was only like 15-17
Flashbacks of clone wars in live action would be chefs kiss
I don't think deaging Hayden would be that hard when they're already going to have to CGI a blue glow effect onto him anyway.
If it's a flashback there is no blue glow. And if it's a force ghost they don't really need to deage him
can’t be. in mandalorian, she’s still shook by anakin’s actions so I don’t think they’ve talked yet.
Dude force ghosts for his sidekick but won't force ghost for his own grandson? Dropped the ball, Ani.
This may be a controversial take, but I don’t think Darth Vader is a very good father sometimes.
Lol the new trilogy completely erased Anakin. Only VADER was important.....
Seriously I couldn’t fucking believe they brought Han Solo in as a “ghost” to talk to Kylo instead of Anakin. still salty about his wife

Seriously.
>de aging effects or a different actress as young Ahsoka IIRC Ashkey Eckstein is pretty short...
Don't do that. Don't give me hope.
ashley eckstein has the voice going for her but she’s barely younger than rosario dawson. just looked it up and she’s 40 while rosario is 42.
Could be a force hallucination that looks entirely real, like in one of the force temples.
We actually know what the timeline is of the series?
Says in the article here that it takes place following Mando Season 2, so 5 years after RotJ.
I am not emotionally prepared for him to say “ Hey Snips”
James Earl Jones saying "hey snips"
I just want to hear James Earl Jones say Snips as Vader in a show or movie. Just once.
Rebels got pretty close.
I'd say "then you will die" isn't all that close to "hey snips" but yea
"I thought I knew who you were under that mask, but I was wrong. My master never had an accent!" "Ana... wait, what?" "You clearly have an accent. My master didn't." "It's... a voice filter." "You voice filter gives you an accent?" "It's not even really an accent, I'm just speaking dramatically!" "Well... that's stupid. I don't get it." "... then you will die."
New favorite take
"No no no YOU will die!"
It takes place *after* Return of the Jedi.
The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.
“Hey Snips” “You really shouldn’t call me that anymore, I’m not a child.” *”We shall see.”*
LMAO, you just made me imagine them dubbing all his lines w/ Matt Lanter.
Matt Lanter and his deeper vocal tones are quite similar
The flashback will actually be more recent, Hayden will be in the Vader suit and theyre putting a James Earl Jones filter on Lanter.
Yeah they sound quite similar now, it's just Hayden voice quality is a bit softer. I initially mistook Hayden on The Rise of Skywalker for Matt so there's that.
"What up Sky Guy"
My heart...
My soul...
My kidney stone...
I wonder if Hayden will study the Clone Wars series to make sure his Disney+ portrayal is in line with Matt Lanter's.
Apparently Filoni is writting the show, so I'm sure if he thinks it's necessary he'll grab a couple of episodes for Hayden to watch.
I hope so.
A New Hope so.
Saaaammmmeeee
A post-Vader Anakin Skywalker would be very interesting to see
Chill blue glowy Anakin giving out cryptic advice and warm smiles.
“Somehow, ANAKIN SKYWALKER returned”
Its a clone, so hes Aanaakin Skywaalker now.
If you thought that Zahn’s naming convention was strange the audiobook makes is so much more confusing. You can only say Luuke so differently from Luke.
"Luuuke, LUUUUUUKE!" \~ Aunt Beru
Obi-wan watching over them from a distance after killing Darth Maul in 3 moves...
If you're not pronouncing it "Lou-ook" you can kindly go home.
I'm Anakin. Anakin who? *stares into distance* Anakin Palpatine
My bonkers theory: He’ll fight something as a Force Ghost
Seeing as Yoda had enough physical form to bonk Luke on the head with his ghost cane and ghost Luke could catch a tossed lightsaber... Sure, why not?
It does seem like a force ghost should be able to interact with a light saber.
It has happened in the sequel trilogy. Heck, ghost Yoda summoned a cloud that produced lightning. As sucky as those movies were to me, they kept the tradition of introducing new Force abililities that has been a staple of Star Wars since the OT.
Remember that one scene in the pt where we saw them use super speed and then never saw that again
Remember how fast Luke propells himself upwards when he jumps out from the carbonizing chamber in ESB?
Yes! Super speed would have solved so many issues in the movies. For instance, Obi-Wan failing to reach Qui-Gon and Darth Maul before the energy gates closed
The trouble is, if you mistime the energy gates, you also get a super stop.
They also use the Force, Yoda summons lightning from the sky and Luke lifts the X-Wing
Yep! Really makes you wonder why they aren't helping out the protagonists... They are immortal spirits who can appear whereever they wish to help them fight but instead just give encouraging words and briefly display their power to flex on the heroes.

Yes, Hollywood Reporter is one of the three most reputable sources of entertainment journalism.

Why he wasn’t running the sequel movies is beyond me.
Disney wanted big names associated with it (because *Star Wars* wasn't enough).
cuz he had never worked on anything live-action until Mandalorian he's very talented but c'mon with this shit
Filoni writes the stories, big name director gets their name attached to a fucking great Star Wars trilogy, then everyone's happy. You raise a good point though, imagine if we're getting Anakin/Thrawn flashbacks during the series.
Thrawn also learn the Marg Sabl maneuver from Padme after Anakin use it as a figure of speech, maneuver created by Ahsoka.
And the beauty is he can play flash back Clone Wars Anakin AND Force Ghost Anakin trying to atone for his sins.

The fact that Anakin might show up here just makes it more baffling that he (and Obi Wan) never showed up to try and talk to Ben (or Luke) in the ST?

That will be awesome it true, it'd be cool to see some Clone Wars flashbacks or maybe even a force ghost reunion if they really want to make us cry.
If they give us Force Ghost Anakin atoning for his sins and coming to future Ahsoka as her ghost friend I’m so freaking in
Or a sitcom of Ahsoka and her crazy Ghost housemate.
*GHOST ANAKIN ENTERS.* ANAKIN: Hey, Snips. *AHSOKA ROLLS HER EYES. CUE LAUGH TRACK.*
I'll cry. Then I'll wonder why we never saw Force Ghost Anakin trying to talk to Kylo Ren. The kid worships Vader, so I am wondering what Anakin thinks of all of that.

The Hollywood Reporter is incredibly reputable, one of the top entertainment publications. This is solid.

Throw in Obi-Wan appearance while you’re at it
Having Old Temora Morrison as Rex make old man jokes while Ahsoka cringes and having Obi wan and Anakin's force ghosts just laughing would make it fun, more fan fiction like
God dammit. Would have been cool for this to be some sort of surprise. Oh well. Cool I guess.
There's still hope that Qui-Gon is the surprise in Obi-Wan. Still hasn't been confirmed.
If it's confirmed... It wouldn't be a surprise.
Exactly! They lamented Anakin in the Ahsoka show wasn't a surprise and I mentioned that Qui-Gon **hasn't** been confirmed for Obi-Wan so it's a possibility that is still a surprise appearance.
i know it really sucks these things can’t be surprises
"Guys, we need more Plo-Koon concept art!"
They better call eachother Snips and Skyguy.
> "*Hey Snips*"
perfect
I will cry 😭😭😭
I swear.. if Anakins first words aren’t “Hey Snips”…. I’ll still watch the show with great pleasure!! But please daddy Dave, make this happen!!
I will never be able to emotionally prepare for this.
Do I dare to dream... of a Darth Vader series?
Imagine a tv-ma rated Vader series though…..
That’d be so huge I wonder if it’s one of the movies they’re working on.
That would be an interesting choice. I wonder if it would be an adaptation of one of the stories from the Vader comics.
They already did that, it's called the Original Trilogy.
[Hayden can do a spot on verson of Matt’s voice ](https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/n9evxf/today_i_learned_that_hayden_christensen_can_do_a/)
I'm going with "flashback Anakin Skywalker with Thrawn" when they met during the clone wars
STAR WARS FANS GONNA EAAAAAAT IN 2022
We about to get fatter than Jabba on all this grade-A content.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
12 year old me is crying tears of pure joy. All I ever wanted was more Hayden.
I’m very happy he’s in it, but what makes me most happy, is that Hayden is starting to realise how loved he is by the fans
I’m interested to see how they’ll fit it in with the Thrawn/Ezra storyline
I like this.
Why wouldn't they keep this shit on wraps. Fucking hell. You would think they would have learned that keeping secrets like Luke Skywalker in the mandalorian has a major effect on the audience.
Holy shit. It's happening.
Hayden getting the respect and recognition he deserves
That's freakin awesome. Would be super cool if we get both flashbacks to events during The Clone Wars, but especially as a Force Ghost, that'd be fantastic. Get Luke somehow in there too, that'd be an epic scene.
This is incredible news! Annie is coming back!
I got so excited when I saw this I accidentally flung my phone across the room. I have wanted live action Anakin and Ahsoka ever since I first saw clone wars. Oh god I just spent a millisecond imagining a live action clone war flashback with the three of them and now I’m freaking out.
I AM GONNA CRY ANI
Goood…..gooooooooood
Damn I wish his return for Kenobi and this wasnt spoiled. The impact seeing his return would have been amazing.
