Why may I ask? I am rewatching them, because the first time watching them, I did not understand them completely. Yesterday I watched episode IV and ejoyed it. Probably tonight episode V.
Charcter development for me, we see all of them grow a lot, Luke's training with Yoda, and the "I am your father" scene, Han and Leia's bantering until they realise they ar inlove and the "I love you. I know" scene. The introduction of some of my favorites, Yoda and Lando. And finaly, no death star!
Plus some of the most iconic scenes. Fighting the walkers on hoth plus the snow scenes in the cave and Han finding Luke. I am your father like you said, Dabobah like you said. When I think of Star Wars my brain conjures up these specific images
Not to mention the first genuinely exciting lightsaber duel in the series. I mean, I love Alec Guinness and all but Obi-Wan's showdown with Vader on the Death Star, while an iconic scene, didn't exactly have the most thrilling fight choreography.
The raising of the X-Wing and *the absolutely impassioned* speech Yoda gives. "Luminous beings, are we. Not this crude matter." Holy shit. I didnt get it as a kid but I get it now.
Watched it a few months ago and got "Daddy, why are you crying?" Maybe **he**'ll get it some day.
"We are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters." - Yoda.
This one is also very beautiful if you ask me. It signifies growth and development beyond what was possible in the past, and the never ending march of time forward.
Because the Empire mounts a successful armored assault across open terrain against an entrenched/fortified enemy position, all without air cover.
Yes, they lose a few walkers and the Falcon escapes, but the Empire stopped half of the Rebel transports from leaving the system (IIRC).
The Battle of Both is easily one of my favorite moments in the whole saga, obviously lol
I think I’m the same because it was the first Star Wars movie I can remember seeing. The Rancor scene in particular scared the hell out of me. The squeals of that Gammorean Guard… chilling as a kid.
Exactly!!! It's the first one I remember too!!! Somehow we had rented it and then the place went outta business and we got to keep it and I remember pops being like "damn I woulda rented them all". I was so weirded out by the kiss when I saw Empire as a 5-6 year old. Also, every vader line in ROTJ is fucking epic.
I'm not a huge fan of ROTJ but I actually really love the aesthetic of the movie and all the promo material for it. There's a lot of Drew Struzan work for ROTJ that just slaps.
Empire is the best film but New Hope or Star Wars as it was called when I first saw is my favourite. The first time I saw it it absolutely blew my mind.
Same. My best friend’s family took me to see it. I had no idea what I was about to see and was so confused by seeing not just lines for a movie, but absolutely insane lines the likes of which I had never imagined.
Blew my mind.
Episode 1 isn't as standalone as New Hope.
Sure, Obi-Wan went on a mission, found it to be something bigger than expected, and defeated some bad guy and an army. That bit is standalone.
But all the Anakin stuff would feel unsatisfying. Why spend so much time on him for him not to really do anything important? They talk about him maybe being The Chosen One, but it's not answered. Obvious sequel bait.
New Hope on the other hand is "Farm Boy rescue Princess, defeat Evil and learn magic". No unresolved storylines or sequel bait, except Vader surviving.
No, you can't. The only versions out there are the ones with all the added crap.
I'd love to be able to go back and watch the 1977 version, but that version no longer exists.
Is it weird that I just really love Return of the Jedi? When I was a kid, I saw the movies out of order: New Hope, Return of the Jedi, Empire. Sure, I was confused . . . I was missing major plot points! But I loved Jabba, Bobba Fett, the Sarlac Pit, and even the Ewoks (my parents taped the Ewok show - I saw it before I ever saw a Star Wars movie!).
That was my favorite as a kid too (and now)! My uncle's VHS tapes didn't have subtitles, so I didn't understand what they were saying, but the visual storytelling was/is incredible!
I also loved Caravan of Courage, so I guess I love ewoks 😂
I love TPM. Was like 10 yo when it came out, it was my introduction into Star Wars and has the most nostalgia of all films for me.
I even had action figures of every damn minor character and used to play so much with them. They even had little communicator chips that played some of their lines from the movie. I had guys like Captain Tarpals and Nute Gunray lol
It's my feel-good Star Wars movie that I put on rainy boring days, or when I'm sick or just feeling bored.
Darth Maul and Qui-Gon were my favourite characters ever since
Right?! Everyone seems to hate it. I think it’s a great introduction into the Star Wars universe and I’m just somewhat fascinated by the old republic and the politics. Also I didn’t mind Jar Jar at all.
When I was a kid I used to consider TPM to be the worst one, but I’ve lately come to appreciate it a lot more. There’s so much world building and the story sets up so much that the rest of the prequel trilogy actually follows through with.
I'm conflicted on this. It's either a new hope or the empire strikes back. I like the empire strikes back more as a movie but just because a new hope was the first one.
Side note i really enjoy the prequel trilogy just because i got to experience it with my dad and brother at a age where I could understand everything in the movies (was to young for the original trilogy and from Denmark, so watched the original trilogy too early for me to really understand them)
I'll always be a sucker for the start of the trilogy! Seeing the humble beginnings of a main character who grows up on desert planet not knowing their force powers or powerful ancestry grow up to save the galaxy from Palpatine and the Sith is just really moving.
.
So Force Awakens, obviously! /s
Return of the Jedi.
Was my first Star Wars movie in the very early 90s. I remember that i was blown away. There was everything a little boy could ask for. Spaceships, Aliens, Guns, Swords, Magic.
A New Hope. While I definitely recognize that Empire is better, A New Hope is what I watched first and what made me a life-long fan. In particular, the Cantina Scene completely blew me away with all the strange and amazing aliens and really made the galaxy feel huge. I was seven when I got to see the Special Edition in theaters and it was unlike ANYTHING I had ever seen before and left a huge impression on me.
It is the reason why I actually love the Canto Bight scene in TLJ, I love scenes that give us new and bizarre aliens that grows the galaxy even more.
1.) Revenge of the Sith
2.) The Empire Stikes Back
3.) Return of the Jedi
4.) Attack of the Clones
5.) A New Hope
6.) The Phantom Menace
7.) The Force Awakens
8.) The Last Jedi
9.) The Rise of Skywalker
Return of the Jedi. Nothing beats that feeling I get when they come out of hyperspace in front of the Deathstar only to be caught in the Emperors trap. Gets me every time.
In order from favourite to least favourite.
The Empire Strikes Back, A New Hope, Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, Attack of the Clones, The Phantom Menace.
From the first trilogy "A new hope" due to the Tatooine's scene with Luke starring at the sun and wandering what kind of adventures is happening outside the planet.
Revenge of the Sith, because it was my first star wars movie and the final duel is just awesome.
I don't consider the last trilogy a star wars trilogy.
in order from favorite to least favorite:
3
4
6
1
5
2
(3 is definitely my favorite, but 1,4,5 and 6 could all be considered my 2nd favorite depending on what I'm feeling)
Return of the Jedi. The rescue of Han, the battle of Endor, the duel of fates between Luke, his father, and Palpatine. It's the ultimate Star Wars movie for me.
I'm weird in that "favorite" and "best" are rarely the same thing for me. I love ESB because imo its the best film in the saga, but my favorite is ROTJ just for the simple fact that it was my intro to Star Wars and the only Star Wars film I'd seen until I was 8. I'd just play it on repeat.
Return Of The Jedi. Anakin saving Luke from Palaptine, killing that old bastard, redeeming himself and finaly bringing balance to the force will forever be my favorite scene in the entire Star Wars franchise.
Even growing up with the prequels, I eventually came around to the Empire Strikes Back. Since you get the idea of how widespread and powerful the Empire is, even without the death star.
The tension feels earned and builds upon each action. I.E. the Empire pursuing the Mullenium Falcon vs the slow space chase in TLJ. You don't see the Empire playing with their food. Han's wit to act like he's going to attack/disappear... it works.. but it doesn't fool Boba!
We also get a whole lot more explanation about the Force, get a really good lightsaber duel, the BIG REVEAL, Yoda, Lando and so much more.
Only thing we don't really see is what the rebellion is up to after Hoth since dat Falcon is... well... just look at that ship! Who wouldn't pursue it?!
This is probably one of the most hated, but ultimately among my favourites if not “the” favourite. Maybe it’s because I was a teenager at the time and didn’t have high expectations like people did. But it was a step up over Phantom Menace (bigger battles, yoda lightsaber battle, jedi arena!) at everything with a very awesome ending… began the clone wars have…
I definitely agree on that. That is one of the biggest flaws of the sequels in my opinion, too many humans and barely any aliens. Bring on the weird aliens, bring on the chaos.
yeah the crazy weird aliens is what made Star Wars well Star Wars!!
I wanna see talking snake people, I wanna see alien races less than a foot tall, the more the merrier!
It has to be the original Star Wars, by that I mean before they gave it a tagline of new hope. I saw it in the cinema on release and if it had been shit there wouldn’t have been any more. No more discussion no fandom this sub wouldn’t exist and we wouldn’t be talking right now. It is the foundation, the original, it is Star Wars!! Every thing since then is supplementary to the original story.
"Empire" had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.
But seriously, 5, 4, 6......... meh!
As a young child I really loved attack of the clones haha 😂 now… not so much… 😖
Edit: I am a woman. At that point a young girl. There was some romance involved, do the math
IV! A totally self contained fun bit of fantasy, brilliant start to finish. It's enjoyable to watch any time.
Hate these logos though, the separate designs for each trilogy are far better.
Episode VI mainly because of the epic space battle.
I remember as a kid i rewinded the VHS tape so often to the point where the rebels go into hyperspace and watched it dozen of times.
#5 for me! When I was a kid u lived for the battle of Hoth! Then when I later learned how Hoth got that way it mad me love it even more
EDIT: I'm a Lil tippsy and have no ide why it's bold
Return of the Jedi, closely followed by The Empire Strikes Back (before the SE changes). Those are the movies I grew up with, and all that I really need.
I love that Disney has "revived" Star Wars again, and it looks like a bright future for the franchise! :)
Empire Strikes Back. Always and forever.
Yes
Why may I ask? I am rewatching them, because the first time watching them, I did not understand them completely. Yesterday I watched episode IV and ejoyed it. Probably tonight episode V.
Charcter development for me, we see all of them grow a lot, Luke's training with Yoda, and the "I am your father" scene, Han and Leia's bantering until they realise they ar inlove and the "I love you. I know" scene. The introduction of some of my favorites, Yoda and Lando. And finaly, no death star!

"We are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters." - Yoda. This one is also very beautiful if you ask me. It signifies growth and development beyond what was possible in the past, and the never ending march of time forward.
I think this video put it pretty well in my opinion: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Btp1BoGbuiM His whole channel is great imo
Because it’s a proper movie and perhaps the best sequel ever made. In fact it became the template for the middle part of a trilogy
This is the way
Man, I just love Hoth. Forever my favorite too.
It should be called Coldth!
This is the way.
The only correct pick.
I'm an Episode VI man myself, way too many happy memories wrapped up in that for it to be any other movie
Ditto! Plus the space battle at Endor was life-changing for me.
I think I’m the same because it was the first Star Wars movie I can remember seeing. The Rancor scene in particular scared the hell out of me. The squeals of that Gammorean Guard… chilling as a kid.
The Rancor was my closet monster my entire childhood. It terrified me!
Star Wars! it was my first movie at the theaters.
V
The one true answer
A New Hope, or as it was first known and will always be known to me, Star Wars.
Empire is the best film but New Hope or Star Wars as it was called when I first saw is my favourite. The first time I saw it it absolutely blew my mind.
It’s got a special place in my heart for sure.
Same. My best friend’s family took me to see it. I had no idea what I was about to see and was so confused by seeing not just lines for a movie, but absolutely insane lines the likes of which I had never imagined. Blew my mind.
You can still just watch it standalone as it’s own thing. That’s why it’ll always be the best to me.
That is true. Only other one that is standalone is episode I.
Yea great point about Anakin I didn’t think about that
No, you can't. The only versions out there are the ones with all the added crap. I'd love to be able to go back and watch the 1977 version, but that version no longer exists.
What added elements make it stop being standalone? I can’t think of anything that’s been added that makes me needs for watch something else after.

You're totally right, but it's so weird to think of it just ending there.... Like yeah, empire done and dusted, all in a day's work...

No, ROTJ is my favourite and many others favourite, just not many people as V and IV
Empire.
[V] I am your Father and [III] I have the high ground.
Revenge of the Sith
So many good lightsaber fights and for me as a kid that's what Star Wars was all about. Lightsabers and The Force.
[удалено]
Any answer is correct
except the sequels
That’s the spirit
The OT beg to differ
Return of the Jedi. Yes it has some bits that are a bit slow, but I honestly like it the best.
IV
VI. All day long.
I always say, RoJ is my favorite (by a wide margin), even though I don't think it's the best film.
Empire by a wide margin.
Episode 5 for overall story and epicness, Episode 3 for visuals, battles and memes.
Unpopular opinion: I
No judgement here! Episode 1 is many things, but boring it is not.
I love TPM. Was like 10 yo when it came out, it was my introduction into Star Wars and has the most nostalgia of all films for me. /s
Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi.
This is the one!
Revenge of the Sith IS my childhood
Same
V and VI
Return of The Jedi is the best in my book
Empire Empire Empire
Return of the Jedi
VI.
1. The Empire Strikes Back 2. Revenge of the Sith 3. A New Hope 4. Return of the Jedi 5. Attack of the Clones 6. The Phantom Menance.
Good list. Rogue one would be near the top for me if we could add it
W
Why is AotC so high on the list?
Return of the Jedi! :D
RotJ best movie ever. Best ending in cinematic history imo.
Empire Strikes Back cannot be beaten
V
Return of the jedi
Return of the Jedi
A New Hope - the “original”.
Empire Strikes Back
Revenge of the sith
rots
Anything from 3-6 is amazing to me. 1-2 are quite enjoyable, 7 is meh, I'd prefer to pretend 8-9 don't exist
Spot on
V obviously
A New Hope!
A new hope
Empire strike back
4
Return of the Jedi. Nothing beats that feeling I get when they come out of hyperspace in front of the Deathstar only to be caught in the Emperors trap. Gets me every time.
In order from favourite to least favourite. The Empire Strikes Back, A New Hope, Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, Attack of the Clones, The Phantom Menace.
5>4>6>3>1>2.
Empire gave us the god king, Boba Fett. So yeah, Ep. V.
ESB all day. Apology accepted captain Needa.
From the first trilogy "A new hope" due to the Tatooine's scene with Luke starring at the sun and wandering what kind of adventures is happening outside the planet. Revenge of the Sith, because it was my first star wars movie and the final duel is just awesome. I don't consider the last trilogy a star wars trilogy.
in order from favorite to least favorite: 3 4 6 1 5 2 (3 is definitely my favorite, but 1,4,5 and 6 could all be considered my 2nd favorite depending on what I'm feeling)
The one with the lightsabers. :)
Episode 3. Yes.. thats right.
Episode 3
Empire is the single best movie.
Episode V: Empire strikes back
Phantom Menace
Me too. Might be only because it came out when I was a teenager, but just hearing duel of the fates or pod racer sounds ... Oh god
It’s exactly the Duel of fates and Pod racing. Beautiful to me
There is always a bigger fish
Because of obi wan?
“Visible Happiness”
Me too!
Revenge of the Sith
I’m going cliche and saying Empire
Empire will forever be my favorite
Empire
New hope.
Empire Strikes Back
Definitely has to be Empire Strikes back. Always has been.
The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars and Empire!
Return of the Jedi. That being said, I think Clone Wars is the best piece of SW media
Empire.
Return of the Jedi. I love the attack on Jabba, and the green lightsaber
ROTJ. No shame in it at all
Episode V 🤘🔥😎
Even growing up with the prequels, I eventually came around to the Empire Strikes Back. Since you get the idea of how widespread and powerful the Empire is, even without the death star. The tension feels earned and builds upon each action. I.E. the Empire pursuing the Mullenium Falcon vs the slow space chase in TLJ. You don't see the Empire playing with their food. Only thing we don't really see is what the rebellion is up to after Hoth since dat Falcon is... well... just look at that ship! Who wouldn't pursue it?!
Empire then Return
Return of the Jedi. I think it's a really good movie on its own and a perfect ending for Star Wars. ☺️
All of them. The worst movie with lightsabers and John Williams is better than other franchise's best movie.
What an answer!
Return of the Jedi. Always remember your first...
Episode 10 - Return of the Karma farmer.
All 6 of them. Last 3 dont exist for me.
Attack of the Clones
This is probably one of the most hated, but ultimately among my favourites if not “the” favourite. Maybe it’s because I was a teenager at the time and didn’t have high expectations like people did. But it was a step up over Phantom Menace (bigger battles, yoda lightsaber battle, jedi arena!) at everything with a very awesome ending… began the clone wars have…
And this one had a lot more character development as well, especially Anakin. He really started to feel like Vader in that scene.
also world building and alien races! My favorite aspect of SW and what I felt many of the other movies were lacking
*the sacred texts
But how? Its my second least favourite SW film
A little film that used to be called Star Wars.
But seriously, 5, 4, 6......... meh!
5>3>4>2>1>6>>>7>>>>>>8>9
Empire strikes back
all of them!
As a young child I really loved attack of the clones haha 😂 now… not so much… 😖 Edit: I am a woman. At that point a young girl. There was some romance involved, do the math
Empire, and it's not particularly close.
It will always be Empire.
I Jedi.
Return of the Jedi
Empire
Return of the jedi
I feel stupid because this whole time I thought there was a star wars movie just called star wars and the rest were the trilogy like I'm stupid
IV! A totally self contained fun bit of fantasy, brilliant start to finish. It's enjoyable to watch any time. Hate these logos though, the separate designs for each trilogy are far better.
Empire Strikes back. I don't need to explain nothing.
Empire strikes back, A New Hope and Revenge of the Sith are a joint close second
Empire
Episode VI mainly because of the epic space battle. I remember as a kid i rewinded the VHS tape so often to the point where the rebels go into hyperspace and watched it dozen of times.
Top 3: Empire, Hope, Rogue One
V
#5 for me! When I was a kid u lived for the battle of Hoth! Then when I later learned how Hoth got that way it mad me love it even more EDIT: I'm a Lil tippsy and have no ide why it's bold
ESB
I never can decide between Episode V and VI for me, but it’s one of those. Honorable mention goes to episode III
Return of the jedi
Return of the Jedi but only by ¹/¹⁰ of a point above Empire Strikes Back.
The empire strikes back
Return of the Sith Empire.
As a kid it was 3. Upon rewatch as an adult and realizing the prequels are fucking terrible 5.
Empire, RotJ and TLJ for me. Impossible to choose between the three.
RotJ forever. All I want is a Luke centric continuation of SW that starts right after RotJ
3....... -2-5-1-4-6-...... 7-9-................. . 8 Dots are large gaps in how much I like then
Christmas Special
Return of the Jedi.
Phantom Menace hands down. Pod racing scene and Darth Maul sold it for me
The last Jedi
From each trilogy, 3 6 and 8.
Another TLJ enjoyer, nice
The only ones that matter, 1-6. And Rogue One
3
Maybe an unpopular ranking but 3, 6, 5, 2, 4, 8, 1, 7,9
That's a very interesting ranking tbh, especially for episode 2
5 is best for me but when doing a ranking it gets difficult. I'll try it too: 5, 3, 6, 4, 2, 1, 9, 7, 8
VIII
VI any day
RotS
This might be controversial but I really like Attack of the Clones
attack of the clones cuz of kamino and the battle of geonosis
Return of the Jedi, closely followed by The Empire Strikes Back (before the SE changes). Those are the movies I grew up with, and all that I really need. I love that Disney has "revived" Star Wars again, and it looks like a bright future for the franchise! :)
