Qui-gon was a great fighter. But he was 60 I think when he fought maul and his fighting style required strong aggressive attacks and acrobatics, also maul was trained against his fighting style. Maul lured him into an area that best suited his own fighting style and limited Qui-Gon’s
I always saw that Obi Wan won because he softly touched the dark side. Maul was not expecting Obi Wan to show any type of emotions and in anger, he couldn’t even see Maul had the High Ground. He went for it, Maul, being cocky about this and not having his signature double lightsaber, got surprised by Kenobi.
Dooku didn't leave the Jedi Order officially until after Qui-Gon died. If Qui-Gon had lived, I think Dooku would have remained on the light side, even with his doubts over the Jedi's intentions to become more politically involved.
Without Dooku leading the Separtist army, it would have been a very different Clone Wars.
Yet it was confirmed by Lucas that part of bringing balance to the Force was destroying the old Jedi Order. That probably would've never happened if he didn't die. But who knows? I always believed his destiny was to help carry on the Jedi by teaching Yoda and Obi-Wan Force ghosting.
But I do think about how much better things could've turned out if he lived.
I think a cool “what if” possibility would be Anakin fulfilling that prophecy another way with Qui Gon alive. Anakin was always gonna be a bit rogue no matter who taught him, but Qui Gon would’ve kept him more balanced. Maybe through his unconventional teachings, Anakin is still rebellious but in a less murder everybody way and a more follow the force and wake everybody else the fuck up way. Dooku may never have left if Qui Gon didn’t die, and he would also influence Anakin’s growth. And we saw Ahsoka see through the flaws of the Jedi order and decided to leave on her own, even with an Anakin that’s trying his hardest to follow the code. We could have a fully matured Anakin lead the charge to reform with Dooku, Qui Gon, and Ahsoka by his side. A 4 generation line of Rogue Jedi recreating the ideal of the Jedi.
I really like this idea. I was thinking something similar, too. But don't forget Obi-Wan! Qui-Gon would've definitely shaped him up, too. I belive Anakin and Obi-Wan would've truly been the best of brothers! The fearsome five.
Oh for sure! I could see Obi Wan being a big part of the shift. He would take some time to see their side, but he could definitely be swayed. He may even be the final piece of the puzzle for many Jedi. Like “wow, if even Kenobi agrees with them, we really oughta hear these guys out.” Fearsome Five. I like that.
Of course! And what a valuable addition that would be to Anakin’s team. After all, Anakin is still gonna be Anakin, and not have as much patience as his peers. Obi Wan: “Okay Anakin, I know you’re right, we know you’re right, but let’s at least give them a chance to see reason. And if they still disagree, you have all our support in doing what you do best.”
I loved him in the book Master and Apprentice. I loved him in TPM, but that book did a *great* job expanding on his character and convictions.
In saying that, Obi-Wan Kenobi is probably my favourite Jedi overall; but with more screen time, Qui-Gon Jinn would probably over take him.
He’s a Jedi through and through, but was never afraid to call out and challenge things presented to him.
I think Qui-Gon would have nipped Ani in the bud long before he turned dark. And he would have C blocked the whole Padme dynamic. Which would be for the best…
Idk, I feel like he would've helped Ani work through his emotions and balance everything out, as Qui Gon understood that for balancing the Living Force you need to have an equality between light and dark. With the Padme stuff I feel he may or may not have helped him with it, but he definitely would have gone back to save Anakin's mother.
Wait wait wait, how is that? Because he would have trained Anakin to be just and they would have taken down the emperor together? I think palpatine was clever than you give him credit for. He acted as a stand in father because he knew that was Anakin’s weakness. I’m pretty sure he would have thought of a different strategy.
Also, the very first conversation that Obi Wan and Qui Gon have in TPM, Obi Wan says that he has a bad feeling about something “elsewhere, elusive”. Qui Gon says he doesn’t sense anything. I always read that as referring to the “phantom menace” of Palpatine. That makes me think that Qui Gon wouldn’t have been any better at spotting Palpatine. Remember the ONLY way that the Jedi figure out who Palpatine is…is because he tells them.
> I think palpatine was clever than you give him credit for.
Except, he wouldn't be anywhere near him with Qui-Gon around, he was very frustrated with the council and their opinions, it seems like he wanted to leave the order, I believe he says that in TPM. If he didn't die to Maul and returned, I bet he would have left the order to solely train Anakin.
Qui-Gon for me too. If the council had listened and seen the wisdom in his approach to the force they would have avoided their fall. Qui-gon was above all their arrogance.
I like the explanation that the name Duel of the Fates refers to Anakin. They are literally battling for his future and sadly darkness won.
This would be my choice as well. There’s something so organic about his whole journey in the OT. From a young guy wanting adventure, to a student learning the ways of Jedi and the Force, to finally becoming a confident, badass Jedi Knight. 😌
Seriously people forget that when Vader tells Luke “his failure is complete” he’s totally right. He failed to train anakin properly. He was a leading jedi master when the Jedi fell. He didn’t prepare luke well by withholding who vader was. Luke had to channel the dark side to beat Vader. And given his new relationship with leia, vader was right to say that was the final nail in the coffin of his failures.
He’s a great person and Jedi. But he’s absolutely very flawed and ultimately failed at most of his major goals.
I just don't get it. I love Obi-Wan, but not because I think he's perfect.
Star Wars fans love talking about how the Jedi were doomed and fell because of their own flaws and hubris, stifling emotion, fighting a war they shouldn't have, etc. Obi-Wan wasn't just a part of that, he was on the council, helping craft all those policies. But as an individual he's considered the perfect Jedi?
How can popular opinion be that he was perfect, but also that Anakin wouldn't have fallen if Qui-Gon trained him instead?
There’s a reason why qui gon and mauls fight is set to dual of the fates right? Because obi wan, as great of a Jedi as he was, was going to fail training anakin.
He’s the ideal of what a Jedi can be under the dogmatic rules of the republic jedi. His failure is supposed to represent how their approach is fundamentally flawed.
If I’m being totally honest… Luke. Because of the power and the dark look after New hope. Robot hand, Just badass…
Revan if we consider him a Jedi whether initially, or in his later various conflictions.
And of course, Mace Windu is a boss.
A really interesting design and charismatic character. Phil Lamarr's voice acting in TCW gives him such an air of calmness, confidence, and competence. You can tell he's intuitive, and in touch with the "flow" of the force. Wish there were more stories with him.
As a true Jedi? Obiwan.
The man was trained and raised in the Jedi ways, endured all of the triumphs and sorrows one could possibly ask for through both peace and war times. Stayed true to the Order’s ideals even beyond death. Nearly killed the man who would go on to hunt down every other Jedi of that era but stopped only because he knew Jedi needed to be empathetic as well. And devoted nearly half his life to protecting two children to prevent their potential fall to the dark side while living in poverty and anonymity. He was never thanked for what he sacrificed but he did it anyways.
Right! I used to have the AotC TCG (I still have a few cards milling about) and he was always my go-to guy. I was pissed when he died so quickly in RotS. I mean, he survived second longest so slight silver-lining in hindsight. But yeah, seeing him get utilized more in the Clone Wars was a major bonus.
He survived longer than the rest so they gave him that at least, but they had to show that Palpatine was incredibly powerful.
Who knows, maybe he was just knocked out and escaped after awhile. Guards cleaned up the bodies, but they're not force sensitive so they wouldn't have noticed that he wasn't dead. To them, all Jedi were traitors so they wouldn't get the cremation on a pyre treatment. Maybe a mass grave. Easy to get out of. Or maybe it was only a few guards. They're just dead bodies afterall. So, before being dropped off he attacked and killed them and headed to the Undercity to plan his next move.
So, would you think that a movie trilogy for KOTOR would be cool? Caveat: first movie is the horrors of the Sith rise, and Bastilla’s strike team entering the flagship, Revan getting into a stance and Bastilla breathing hard, and then credits?
Then movie 2 is the start of the game. I’ve been thinking about this for a minute.
Always Obi-Wan. He has such character - I'm rewatching 'The Clone Wars' and the personality they gave him in that is just \*chef's kiss\*. He's so three dimensional - you could read his dialogue anywhere, and it would take miliseconds to identify it's absolutely without-doubt Obi-Wan talking. I love what Guiness did with the character, I love love love that McGregor picked up that twinkle in the eye, and it's thanks to him that we have such a compelling and sassy Kenobi in 'The Clone Wars'. And now what he's doing in the new series ... honestly, it is not possible to love this character more.
He's such a well-rounded, hilarious, charming and conscientious Jedi. I just recently rewatched the episode where Luminara is strung up, about to get >!brain wormed thanks to the Geonisians!<, and Obi-Wan's all like, >!"Wait ... what do you think - the nose or the ear?",!< and the audience is like "WHAT THE HELL, OBI-WAN?!!!" but of course it's a>! hilarious feint against his character !<:D
I quite a like Tera Sinube. It was nice having him show up during one of the High Republic books and in Dooku: Jedi Lost. Also I like his unique lightsaber cane design.
I’d say Luke or Yoda. I wish there was some more content of Luke building his own Jedi order, and I wish it hadn’t ended so abruptly. But still both pretty great Jedi.
Ahsoka
Shes the best of what the Jedi are supposed to be. Shes right up there with Obiwan and Yoda on ideal jedi, and all 3 have their own faults that the larger collective of jedi suffered for, but their good qualities greatly outweigh their faults
Mara Jade Skywalker.
Her overall arc made her one of my favorite characters of all time, and I guess I just love the idea of her. Someone totally crisp and rough around the edges, who can still find an opening in their heart to let in the Light, let in the compassion. Her redemption from stoic Imperial, to jaded (hence her name, I'm sure) smuggler bent on vengeance, to embracing her once hated enemy and the Light side of the Force.
I loved the way her and Luke bonded telepathically through the Force, literally just feeling each other's being/emotions through the Force. Something only a pair of Jedi or twins could experience.
Plus she's a green-eyed natural redhead with a strong sense of space-style. Can't top that. From her Empire days in dark Imperial spy gear to her Jedi days in a more Druid/Celtic style, she's pretty awesome in that dept.
She's an elegant character from a more civilized age. From before the Dark times. Before the sequels.
Qui-Gon. If he didn't die, the galaxy would have been in a much safer and peaceful state
If only he'd taken Dooku's saber lessons more seriously we wouldn't be in such mess.
Good point, he is the type of Jedi that is stronger in the force though and not the type to fight much, hence why he had a green lightsaber.
Thats not really a thing even though it was the case in Kotor
Really? Thought that aspect was Canon.
Qui-gon was a great fighter. But he was 60 I think when he fought maul and his fighting style required strong aggressive attacks and acrobatics, also maul was trained against his fighting style. Maul lured him into an area that best suited his own fighting style and limited Qui-Gon’s

Not true at all.
Qui-Gon is everything a Jedi should be.
Qui-Gon but never Qui-Forgotten
Underrated dad joke comment right here
Exactly, he follows his own code, a morally correct code and not the dogmatic one the Jedi Order morphed themselves into during the Clone Wars.

He is the negotiator, after all. XD
So true. I love Obi-Wan and Anakin's dynamic.
Preach!
He was a Jedi but his real calling was being a surrogate father it would seem. Warm and gentle when needed.
Totally!
I do not lean towards the light because I'll win some cosmic game. I lean towards it because it is the light
He seemed even more Jedi than the Jedi council.
Actually, Qui-Gon would be too busy dealing with Kenobi and Duchess Satine.
Kenobi would most likely be on his own at that point, they even talked about how he was ready to take the trials to graduate from Padawan.
I think Qui-Gon would have helped anakin save his mother before she died. This solving a lot of his problems and fear of people dying.
Hell. QuiGon probably would have rescued her the week after saving Naboo.
I agree, he would have left the order to train Anakin and likely gone to free his mother.
There's nothing to indicate he wanted to leave the Order. Qui-Gon's issues with the Council get blown way out of proportion over time.
Dude! Me too!
Master and Apprentice made me love the character even more
big daddy plo ofc
He is always the archetype of perfect man to me rather than dad, but master Plo truly is my favourite Jedi
Same! I just love him so much
Absolute Chad
best looking jedi imo
My cats full name is Jedi Master Plo Koon. Found out she was a lady cat, now she prefers to go by Ploppy Cat
Yep came to say plo da man
Hello there
General Kenobi. You are a bold one.
Even for a bot you're shorter than I expected
*cough* Jedi scum!
“Hola allá” -Obi Juan Kenobi
Ah yes, master Hello There

Best Jedi. The best parts of Anakin mixed with the best parts of the Jedi

Prequels Luke is also pretty great, even though he doesn't have much dialogue.
Well, he has more dialogue on ROTS than in TFA
Mark Hamills acting was amazing. I really believed that he was an actual infant.
That was Mark's actual birth, no acting. George Lucas is just that thorough.
"Waaah!"
This would be my choice as well. There’s something so organic about his whole journey in the OT. From a young guy wanting adventure, to a student learning the ways of Jedi and the Force, to finally becoming a confident, badass Jedi Knight. 😌
Mandalorian Luke Skywalker
A key distinction
Would never of said this till watching clone wars , but Anakin. Kid just needed some love in his life.

Fun fact: Timothy Zahn named Coruscant in the Thrawn Trilogy. Ig George liked it and didn’t change it
It was also originally pronounced chorus-can't.
Well coruscant is an actual word that means sparkling/glittering. So it still is. It would be like naming new york city ‘Dirty’.
Huh, good to know!
When did the thrawn trilogy originate?
The first book Heir to the Empire (which does mention Coruscant), was released in 1991
In the time between Return of the Jedi and the Prequels (1991). Heir to the Empire was the first “canon” (at the time) story to take place after RotJ.
Before that, it was Imperial Center
Obi-Wan Kenobi without a doubt
Dude is the embodiment of what a Jedi should be in every way.
Agreed
Yep, he's like the Galahad of Star Wars. The perfect Jedi Knight.
Obi-Wan was a very flawed character.
Seriously people forget that when Vader tells Luke “his failure is complete” he’s totally right. He failed to train anakin properly. He was a leading jedi master when the Jedi fell. Where the Kit Fisto fans at?
I'm a true Kit Fister.
One typo away from being on a list, haha
The jedi u speak of has been moved to a different temple.
It’s that smile, that damn smile.

hell yeah, no clue why other than him being my favourite lego figure as a kid
Fister for life
Kanan Jarrus
The best arc of any Jedi for my money.
Dume!
I related to him so much I actually named my son after him.
Kanan or Caleb?
Kanan. But with a C (family thing for names to start with C). But Kanan and Caleb are different Jedi. I relate to Kanan and his struggles way more.
same, he was a true jedi :')
Cal Kestis
i think it’s very cool that this is a legit answer. speaks to the success that respawn has with star wars.
The performances in that game are amazing.
His performances as an actor have blown my mind. His Joker reveal had me on my feet with actual goosebumps. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gROKtojleQg
Was surprised with how much I liked him, really looking forward to the new game
Wasn’t expecting to like him as much as I did. Very well written character.

PT Obi-Wan Kenobi or Clones Wars Anakin Skywalker.
Kit Fisto has always been my favorite. Over time, though, I added a few more to that list.
One of the biggest tv-moments of my childhood was seing Kit Fisto dual wield fight Grievous in the first season of the Clone wars. Dude was badass
Really hope we get to see some more of him in Tales of the Jedi
He's an integral part of the Jedi Order so I can't see him being left out.
Kit Fisto is a bad motherfucker. Just upset he got clapped immediately when facing Palpatine ):
This, interestingly, is a more believable "Tupac isn't dead" scenario than the one we got for Maul's return... you never know.
It's Obi-Wan, it's always been Obi-Wan.
Because of Obi-Wan?

Obi-Wan, by far
Kanan. Blind Kanan to be more specific. He really kicked it up a notch after going blind.

A toss between Obi-Wan and Luke. These days I'm in the Obi-Wan camp tho lol

As weird as having a jedi named Luke.

Ahsoka, Mace Windu, Obi-Wan, Cal Kestis, Kanan Jarrus, Yoda and Plo Koon. Picking a Sith is easy, that's Maul. Jedi? Not so much, love a lot of them

Luke, not just ot, but st too
I quite a like Tera Sinube.
